No exactly, that's what rubs the wrong way. They're soooooo careful, detailed, and insistent with their own culture (ccp moment) but for Natlan (and Sumeru) they mix like half a dozen cultural influences and aren't nearly as careful.

Mihoyo has a WW branch called "HOYOVERSE" to promote their games better for us non Chinese players. A lot of games change stuff for the localized ver. Of a game so why can't they make Natlan characters darker for WW and keep things as they are for Chinese. I personally couldn't care less it's just a game but I'm not selfish just bcs idc doesn't mean it's not a problem especially after they disrespected their methology
They renamed to Hoyoverse because they wanted to copy Facebook's MetaVerse hoping that they'd get some of the hype before it flopped.

The correct name is Ororon, but in Asian speaking countries, R in some cases is changed with L for pronunciation proposes, same with O and U.
We still have no knowledge which role he plays is the story and most likely not of a deity, if he does, I'll eat my words, but probably he plays more of what the name Ororon name means: someone very emotional which feelings can led him to extremes.
People in the LATAM communities give little to no relevance to deities names unless we are talking of the deity itself; its very common find people with deities names or even countries names, as mostly an appreciation of what the name represents or because it sounded cool.
Remember that Natlan is not based in just Africa, but also the pre-columbian communities around the Ring of Fire where the Aztecs and Mayans where (which they where tan to red skinned mostly) and the name Ororon makes more sense.
So even by some crazy reason the name is really Olorun, it bears no deeper meaning, it's just a name. The overreach is real from these people, it's like saying that every latino named Jesus is Jesus itself, which they are a LOT.
I've had to actually research this, waste my time on finding info about the deity and the name to determine that they have no direct relation.

A. it’s Liyue, they will always put out great characters for that nation
B. That was because he was built well, people spent money on a character they thought was strong cause he was an archon.

If Natlan doesn't capture my attention I'm dropping the game entirely.
If the "new" endgame got you to drop the game, there's no way you were playing the game in the first place. You likely dropped it looong before that because ain't no way I would trust Genshin to actually make an in-depth endgame after 4 years.
Whatever discourse goes on online has almost no effect on these games' revenues or these companies' actual decisions especially given global makes like 10% of revenue in the Genshin banner. And these companies have the data so unless people stop paying they ain't changing.

If you wana make a true black character in anime style, they will look like crap due to how shadows and anime work (anime style usues lots of different type of dark/brown shadows). Its extra work and pain in ass, not racism.
You have to pretty much design their clothing and hair to be full of colors and this also limits your creativity.
Most of black characters you see in anime use brown color. So this is one solution Mihoyo can use.
Onyankopon is probaly only one i can think of where they pulled it off and Canary from Hunter X Hunter.
Making dark skinned characters isn't hard because of "how shadows and anime works" that literally does not make sense. All u need to do is make an anime character and give them a darker skin tone but Hoyoverse seems to be allergic to melanin

Before, I didn't care about representations in fictions and I still find it cringe if people seek their worth in media representing them. I was neutral in this. However, that was back when I didn't know that Genshin was trying to portray a certain region irl. I thought they only fricced up in writing as it's pretty basic that people in hot places tend to be darker and they lack that in their characters. But if you're gonna portray something from irl, make it more realistic, then. Idk if they're racist or just stupid, but it still comes out as racism and it would stay that way if they don't listen to their global audience after this. I don't think so tho.

CN has a specific beauty standard and they barely care about others, it's why seeing tanned characters is rare in their games.
Ironically, Korea and Japan also have specific beauty standards but they don't hesitate to portray people of color even darker ones.
Take Korea for example, one of their games (Counterside) features this absolute unit of a man called Replacer King. He's black.
People should realize that representation isn't a consideration for Hoyoverse, nevermind it being a priority either. And either spend and pull for the pretty characters or just quit the game.

I agree with your stance on the diety but let's face it, anyone who thinks this boycott will work is a lost cause. If gameplay and anniversary rewards boycott failed what chance does a boycott on skin tone gonna have? The gameplay of genshin and end game content has been an issue for years yet genshin continues to be profitable year in (take it from a long time vet). I honestly feel bad for the EN va's since I actually enjoy some of them but let's not act that AI and the option to change languages to Japanese does not exist. Most probable case hoyo does some voice recasting.

For example, they could have taken Columbus and make Columbina, a woman inspired by a man, and nobody would rage about it. They could create a Mondstadt character named William and most people would associate it with William Wallace but HE IS NOT William Wallace so they could turn it into a black man or change the name to Willa and make a little girl (Klee, Qiqi, Sayu...) character or even an elf or furry race. They have every right to create whatever they want, they are free to do so and you either take it or leave it. That's just how it works. - Candace, useless 4* character with a design of a 5* one.
- Cyno, decent but not great either and feels horrible to use in the OW.
- Dehya, the biggest waste of a character that this game has ever known and a big middle finger to all those who waited for her for months due to a horribly designed and constellation hungry kit with disgusting multipliers to the point there's no way that it wasn't made on purpose. (even a single digit IQ trainee could've done something better than...this.)

It still baffles me why people go so far out of their way to even find these things out in the first place. You know what's just a video game and not too deep? Sonic Unleashed. Street Fighter. Its insane how easy it is to get what you're paying for and expecting to see from real world inspired games. Ok let me get this straight. So it's ok for western media to change the skin color or identity of a significant individual in history from other countries like Cleopatra, Achilles, Queen Charlotte etc but it's not ok if another country (China in this case) to change the skin color of a historical figure.
Personally i don't really care about the race or color of characters as long as the character is good development wise, how they fit into the story & their role in it. The character could be green, blue, white, black, yellow doesn't matter and it's getting really tiring that all the attention is on that instead of what the content will be....in a video game!
