  • This conversation is a very very heavy one. There is a lot of talk about abuse. On the couch today is Shamsa. She is a FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) survivor. She talks in real depth about the abuse she suffered and over coming that trauma. It's a hard listen but it was a very important conversation. Thanks for listening

What Shamsa said about the men having the power to stop this is so true. As a Somali woman I am very lucky not to have undergone fgm and that is because my father was vehemently against it.
My heart goes out to all the woman that have had this done to them💔

    • @adamelmino8359

Unfortunately, it is not only the men. The women need to continue to speak up against it. Women do brutalize other women (in the story it was the grandma 👵 with the help of another woman that did the procedure). It needs to end now.

The fact that cruelty and savagery towards women is passed down and perpetuated to women and against them, and it’s “normal” makes you realize how many things we need to change from our past that’s continuing today rather than these minute problems today that are mostly about opinions. When did we care more about beliefs, and new injustices rather than rights and humane treatment for everyone 😔 our world needs help!

I listened for 3/4 of the video. I broke down when Shamsa cried about her mum. The common trend in her story is the lack of education and abuse against women. Some women get abused in their culture just because they were born a woman. The pain behind this woman is so immense and she's so brave for sharing her story. I love that she's on her healing journey and despite all this, her faith in her religion is still consistent. Thank you for posting.

Your entire family has failed you, including your mother! so much so that you're saying sorry for something you didn't do....I realised the muslim community always shout Allah's name when it suits them yet they do such evil and barbaric things!

Shamsa, you are a strong and courageous young woman. I was moved and touched by your story. What you have experienced throughout your life, I believe that God is going to use you to inspire and encourage other women who have gone through similar experiences as you. I will continue to pray for you so that GOD will give you the strength and keep on fighting against F.G.M. God bless you.

This is one of your most powerful and relatable episodes. I worked with many women affected by FGM. Thanku for highlighting this subject with such sensitivity and openness ❤️🎓🌍🙏🏾🤔

Great Conversation I Have Seen Shamsa Speak On FGM Before But Not In Such Depth... The Interviewer Had Great Feedback And Made Her Feel Secure While Being Vulnerable Telling Her Horrific Story

This is so groundbreaking. God bless Shamsa and her story. I recently found out my mum was subjected to fgm at 13. I don’t think she knows it’s a crime either.

I always said this and I will keep saying it as long as I live: AFRICAN culture is cruel towards women. I really hope this changes for the next generation.

Wow. It’s so crazy some of the things people have went through and came out of strong, I couldn’t imagine having to go through this… This was really an emotional pod and I’m glad I watched it.
