  • PC Bicknell wrote articles that are said to have given rise to the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine. Jack San Felice took three of Bicknell's articles and used the information within them in an attempt to locate the mine. Did either of them actually find the real Lost Dutchman Mine? Decide for yourself if it's genuine or just another mystery of the Superstition Mountains. . Part 3 Video link

This trail does exist and is the old military trail that isn’t being used anymore. It runs right into the salt river also. The canyon itself was used as a shortcut during the Indian wars when the winter rains brought seasonal creeks through this canyon. In it there is waterfalls and pools of water, boulders in the wash and rocks shaped like people. Waltz would take this way via the salt river and use this way into the mountains. The canyon is hard and like a slot canyon for a bit, and then opens up into this hidden canyon Dr Thorne was taken to. In this canyon you can only see out to the south (high walls in every direction) and see weavers needle from the slope where pit mine is located. I won’t say the name of this canyon but it does exist and may not be considered in the Superstition Mountains. There’s a line in the sand where it becomes Tonto National Forest

I believe Ron Feldman knows where the mine is. Most people think if they find the mine gold nuggets will be scattered on the floor ready to be carried away. So actually the mine could have been found by people who don't know what to look for. It really doesn't matter if the mine is found or not I really don't think anyone would legally be able to do anything with the mine so if it would be found maybe someone could sneak an amount of ore out without being caught. If I'm not mistaken someone would have to apply for a treasure recovery permit through the government and the chance of being exempted would be similar to finding a gold bar sitting in the middle of a road. If someone was to find it the best course of action would be to do exactly as Jacob done keep quiet and sneak it out a little at a time.

Another awesome story! If the Pit/Generator mine is the Dutchmans lost mine, that would be fantastic and tragic at the same time. It would put an ending to the Dutchmans story. However at the same time if the Pit/Generator mine isn't the Dutchmans mine, that would imply that the the Dutchmans mine can't be that far away. I have no doubt that the Dutchmans mine will be found in due time!

    • @jacksanfelice8840

No not tragic because one portal has not been found yet within the claim or adjacent claims of 100 acres-that in the mts. is a awesome rocky area to search=also other clues to be verified-watch for the next episode on Herman Petrasch-one of the 1st Dutch Hunters!! lso the mystery of what could have happened to all the ore removed and what is left-More of a mystery remains than was opened to view!! Thanks--

The "Mythical Mine" story was also printed in the 'Arizona Weekly Citizen,' Tucson, AZ, on November 24, 1894. That's where I found it.
Good talk. A bunch of the pieces seem to fit the pit mine. If that is the Lost Dutchman, I find that sad. That means it was a shallow deposit that played out quickly. Hardly the richest mine there is...

No! we do not know that is is or was a shallow mine -taken the enormous amount of waste rock from the Pit Mine and the mine SHAFT ABOVE above the Pit mine AND THE TUNNEL, IT could be surmised that a great amount of high grade ore was taken from that area. Based on an equation of waste rock VS high-grade ore it is within the possibility that this area- 20 acres =a mining claim= contained a vein about 2 feet wide of high grade gold and that was enough at 500 feet- to make 20 men millionaires or more at yesterday's gold values! Now it you paid attention you would have heard me state that I was up there over 20 times in two years searching for something valuable-just because you find a mine does not of itself make you wealthy-you must have ownership, funds sufficient to develop the mine, and engineers to find the highest grade ore to mine. While at the Silver King Mine we exposed a vein of high-grade silver of extreme value- Additionally, from the value of the waste rock one can exponentially derive a formula for what the high grade ore should be valued at!! I have been at this mining business for over 25 years now and can see the vast difference in low grade to high grade values. It does not take much high-grade gold ore to become wealthy----but you must find it- then must HOLD the ground. No one person held the ground for any amount of time!! Watch for Herman's story next and then the Woodbury story last in this Lost El Dorado SAGA of 4 Episodes. This is based on 35 years of research, now with computers, and actual physical searching out most of the old mines in an actual area where much gold mining was and still is found in the areas' ore boundaries!! I hope that this pithy explanation helps you-I know it did me!! If you are a non-believer then no amount of evidence will convince you-but if you are like me and a small cadre of believers then you believe!! One must break a few rocks in order to seek the truth- Thank you for your comments. It forced me to write this explanation that I will provide future questioners!!!

Fantastic Recounting of some of your expeditions. I am fascinated with tales of treasure and the old west.I lived in Chandler in the late 70s till early 83. Warner Rd was still dirt and everything south of Warner was orange groves and desert..I had a book on the Dutchman mine and we hiked the superstitions more than once, not looking for the mine, though it was in the back of my mind that what if ? Thank you so much for your talks. I am looking forward to installment #3. I love this channel and all of you that contribute..Just wonderful entertainment!! I was born in ‘83 and lived off of Warner, between Lindsay/Val Vista... I can still remember my mom having to stop the car and wait for a heard of sheep that was being driven down Val Vista rd! It’s amazing how much things have changed since then... we were out in the boonies and now we’re in the middle of town! I can also remember hiking Siphon Draw as a kid and seeing maybe 5 people tops on the trail during the entire hike... now you’re likely to encounter hundreds of people on that same hike!

well we also know for a fact a Arizona Gazette ran the story in August 22 1895 ...Vol .30 No.# 44, and i have this paper in near mint condition ..it is almost word for word the same as the January 1895 paper ..with some better oversight of the treasure hunters looking for the mine ...i shared the paper digitally with Wayne tuttle..i still have the full news paper and there are a few good related topics in the paper other than the LDM story . so we know he was still writing about the LDM in August of 1895. there 4 or 5 people named in the paper that were hunting for the LDM at the time and P.C. Bicknell is names as one of those early Dutch hunters .

I'm kind of confused here on the whole 5, 15 thing. The German word for five is f ü n f (fünf), not funz. Fifeteen is fünfzehn, f ü n f zehn. Funz, as far as I know has never been five (or anything else). Fifty is fünfzig. (Und so weiter)..

The diff. may be German dialects-what the heck we know Reiney was not paying attention-so if the words started close enough the plausible theory here is there is certainly enough misinformation over the years--the basis on my 4 episodes is to prove the existence of a gold mine with ALL the info. that creates the overwhelming info. and enough of it to establish a mine--do not judge me by one isolated theory-watch the entire 4 episodes coming up and or read the entire book. Thanks for question!! Ever hear of Razzors OCCUM ! SP where all the possibilities are found wrong then the obvious one is the closest to the truth!!

A western novel from Jacob Waltz point of view would be a very interesting read too.

Clay Wurst’s story of what happened to Waltz’s Mexican friends and Bicknels don’t match up. Somebody doesn’t have their facts straight.

One day it is a goal of mine to see the gold that Jacob Waltz or anyone that came out of his mine what the gold looks like or what became of it. Think about this it was soo high quality and valueble 24K gold. To see gold that beautiful would be amazeing. It's on my bucket list. I mean Sombrero Butte is heck 40 miles roughly from Weavers Needle. I think the real picklle in the jar here is evidence of where gold can be located here thats close to the Apache's land. The Apache's claimed the gold because I truly believe that it was on their land where the LDGM is located. I say this because it was their land they claimed it because it was on their land. Ok. Now think about this. The State of Arizona went in to create this law soo they could operate the law to keep the Apache's from owning the land any longer. This happend in the middle 1964 I think. The one clue that I'm stuck on guys is the Blue Stemming chalk that is all over the outside walls on the rock. You can see this blue chalk in rich abundance all over the rock and it is a clue that has stood out in my mind as the vital clue to where the mine is or that area it would be because you cannot just find that on the rocks just anywhere it is there from the presense of gold and other elements that create gold. That Blue Chalk is the biggest clue in my mind that sticks out about the LDGM and will probably be only found in certain areas.

Great story Jack. But you're wrong about funz. Funz isn't five. Fünf is five auf Deutsch. Fünfzehn I'd fifteen. Ten is zehn. So fünfzehn is five and ten. Fifteen. Not sure if that changes anything though.

There's all kinds of German. There are several dialects + an old high German, middle high German and a new high German. Jack's version is probably from one of them.

Why can't the Dutchman mine be the mammoth or bulldog mine

    • @LuckyBaldwin777
      @LuckyBaldwin777 4 месяца назад

The ores from those mines were tested and found to be different from the Dutchman's ore. Therefore, the Dutchman ore is from a different mine.
