Love this site and respect his views. With casting plug mine bombs casts easily 50 plus yards with 3/8 or 1/2. On water i had few back lashes but not fish reels much yet. Im glad he uses real lures but to think a gunfish only 25 yrds is concerning to me.
Where do you have 'Automatic' setting on your Scorpion DC reel? Mine only has 1, 2, 3, 4, & W. However, my Scorpion DC reel is also Silver, not black, with a retrieve speed of 6.2:1.

Do you think the Scorpion DC (the one in this video) or 70 would do better with fluorocarbon line on a Curado 7' ML glass rod? There are probably better choices today but I already have a couple of the DCs and really like those reels so I would prefer one of the two above.
I have 2 of these reels and 2 of scorpion 70 and 1 curado 70. The 70 series to me is pretty much backlash free on 10lb or 12 lb floro. And bomb casts for reels that could run out of line. I mostly use them for jerk baits in 7.3 ratio but one scorpion 70 is 6.3 so small square bills hope this helps Not sure if I will sell my DC reels but personally think they over rated...must be for super beginners
@@Woefman911 My goal was to be able to cast a Shad Rap 5 better than I was with my current spinning set-up. I tried with the Scorpion DC and was only able to get down to a SR7. Bought a Scorpion 71 and was able to meet my goal. I also have a SLX 71 DC that cast even better with braid but was really bad with fluorocarbon, never tried the Scorpion with braid so don't know how they would compare. I still like my DC reels, pretty much the same thoughts as automatic vs manual vehichle transmissions. In most cases I don't think the performance advantage of a non-DC reels is so significant it outweights the ease of use of a DC reel. If the wind is constantly changing, DC is a definite advantage. I'm used to having to adjust reels but my wife is newer to fishing and she doesn't understand why you would get something that requires manual adjustment vs something that does it automatically.
@@christopherascherl2411 I have bunch shadraps but honestly not thrown them on Bait Caster in years...but I throw small jerk baits as in shallow one by rapala think called shadow rap shad. Pretty light and I do fine with scorpion 70 or curado 70...never tried with my DC scorpions
Also who am I to talk someone out of a bait...but...try Berkeley version....Ole David Fritts invented or had a hand in a lot of rapala baits like shad rap, DT series crankbait...known as dives too. But DT really stands for David T Fritts....anyhow he is with Berkeley now and he can't stand baits that throw like potato chips so he and others are did the rapala shad rap in a Berkeley model it has unique weight system to be able to throw....same action or better than shad rap.

It was much cheaper to than just getting it straight from Amazon but I guess it take much longer to get here tho lol. I love my scorpion dc. I hope shimano will release an American version in the next few years and add micro gears. I would like to see it priced in between the curado dc and the metanium dc.🙏
Just a FYI for 29$ you can get micro module for the 17 scorpion dc. I've done it and it's even more amazing now. Just order the pinion and main gear from the curado mgl 70k. You can get hg or xg

Shimano spool bearings for the scorpion are the 3x10x4. if you want to get a set and mail them to me ill test them. but to be honest, i dont see anything in these bearings that differentiate them from any other chinese bearing being sold to us under some company name that bought them in bulk. I dont know if you remember a few years ago the Boca orange seals got alot of hype and attention. But... If they do give an improvement you know i wont be afraid to show it :)

Hey could you do some video maybe which DC helps best for newby skip casters ? That might be another interesting testing ?! Just as an idea. It's louder than the Curado DC. As for the drag click it only clicks during adjustment it does not have an active drag clicker but you can order an aftermarket one for it.

THE REEL TEST I was hoping it would withstand saltwater bass fishing in the uk. Fair amount of wind on most occasions. I believe the scorpion is the best to combat this. There is a saltwater shimano exence, but very expensive, and maybe more difficult to control the lure.
its harder to see the lures land that way. I picked this spot specifically because the trees cast a shadow on the water so you can see the lures land easier
I bought the scorpion 17 dc used from japan and it cast as advertised (no backlash when set) but I don't hear the trademark whine when casting. I spooled it with 40 lb gliss monotex and casting a 1/4 oz Ned rig. Can anybody comment on why I don't hear the whine sound ?
I got mine used off ebay and it is doing pretty good. You need to mess with the spool tension also be mindful of the settings and what weight lure you're throwing.
I don't think this was a complete accurate review. You did thumb it quite a bit. From other reviews and Shimano claims. It reduces or stops the need to thumb it so much. 40 yards seemed to be the most distance you got. That's not good.
I just canceled my curado dc amazon order and bought the Scorpion. Hope I'm not disappointed.

Scorpion. I have the slx dc ots a good reel but the brakes on the scorpion are soo much better.
Why not pair that thing with a taller rod?

Curado is a 200 size reel with a 150 size spool. The Scorpion is a 100 size reel. I have a Scorpion and a Curado K. I rarely rarely throw my Curado.
