True but she also has a poor understanding of the old animated snow white, and it is quite obvious in how she claims the new snow white is going to be different from the old. @@towerofgodfan4107 that’s not true, there are a lot of valid reasons people have to be upset at a lot of the things she’s said, and a lot of the changes Disney has been making.
They don’t understand the message they themselves are trying to push.
Like in Beauty and the Beast they made Belle a “strong, smart woman” (…even though Belle was _already_ a strong, smart woman) by making her an inventor.. then all she invented was a washing machine to wash her own clothes 😅 Whereas her father in the f version had been trying to invent things to help make life easier for average folks, which he was hoping to share.. she just made a washing machine because she couldn’t be bothered washing her own clothes lol.
That’s one example of hundreds from many different modern Disney remakes. They don’t even know what they’re trying to say anymore (and their actors often reflect that with some of the ridiculous things they spout in interviews and on the red carpet)

I think the bigger problem is Disney not realizing that changing the Dwarfs into magical creatures instead is more ablisit than leaving them alone. I certainly hope the decision was actually thought out and not all because one person with dwarfism had a wrongfully misguided interpretation of the plot. The 7 dwarfs were actually really good men, amd tho their characters were mostly limited to one emotion, they were all kind, caring, and hard working when they went to their very taxing job in the cave. If anything you'd think they would be seen as good representation for people with dwarfism so people can see them as the people they are and not just a topic to be avoided.

There are a lot of issues with this movie already, before Rachel Zeglar. The lack of dwarfs, the direction of the plotline (we don’t really know what it is yet but it’s been made clear what to expect and nobody wants it) and the current Disney trend of bad live action remakes and fake ‘strong powerful’ women. A lot of what Rachel is saying and getting hate for, is what Disney has been saying for years. It’s not surprising she’s copying them, she now works for them and is likely told what to say and do by them. But what I don’t understand is how Disney hasn’t gotten this much hate (a lot of people have complained about Disney’s new direction but never actively hated Disney like how they are now doing with Rachel) and how Disney isn’t trying to do any damage control? In the World of boycotting movies and such, you would think Disney would want to step in if people are hating their upcoming movie’s lead actress for the press interview for said movie. I think I have officially lost all respect for Disney now, and no I won’t be seeing the movie when it comes out.
And back to Rachel Zeglar, I think whilst I hate her entitled attitude, it’s really not her fault. It’s Disney for telling her such bs and because she is young, naïve and new to the industry. I’ll be mad at her right now but I can definitely see her growing up and learning from her (minor) mistakes. This shouldn’t ruin her career. Another thing, I don’t believe many people are really mad at Rachel for being naïve. I think a lot of people are looking for a reason to drag down a woman, they thrive on hating on woman. It happens so often and it’s disgusting.
*EDIT:* Also f Peter Dinklage. Just because he doesn’t like/is scared of the existence of other dwarfs in Hollywood doesn’t mean he should prevent them from getting jobs. If he is truly offended by the 7 dwarfs in the story, I’d understand a bit more. But if you’ve followed Peter’s career, you know he’s always hated dwarfs in films. It really looks like he knows he’s made it despite being a dwarf (which is sadly really difficult) and is one of the few so is actively trying to prevent other people with dwarfism from getting roles, like he’s trying to keep dwarfs out of Hollywood to keep more roles from himself. Obviously this is just speculation.

I also don’t know how the “original” 1937 movie became this false beacon of female empowerment. Yes, the movie is cute and generally pretty well made, but it most definitely is a product of its time and not a single woman made any executive decisions on any single part of it. Snow White doesn’t just randomly meet a prince, it’s her only established goal from the very first scene. She’s kinda sweet, kinda nice, hella naive and a pretty good homemaker, and looks elegant even while running for dear life. That’s pretty much it. The original story leaves many possibilities as to how we imagine the characters, I don’t get why people are so hung up on the one with the least amount of agency. Made by men, for men, as well.

    • @AwkwardWhispers
      @AwkwardWhispers 6 месяцев назад +4

I disagree. Snow White has every reason to be vindictive towards others, but takes the high road whenever she can. It's a subtle and maternal approach to what I would consider a high moral lesson. She befriended a group of reclusive old men and helped them out and then they eventually helped her out in return-- she healed Grumpy's resentful heart by showing him kindness when he was rude to her, etc.
I think there's more to it than finding a prince. I see the prince as more a of a side plot for Snow White. Her main goal is to survive. At the beginning of the movie she daydreams and wishes for a prince. Then, she learns that her step-mother is hunting her, and then she uses that wish to give her a sense of hope throughout the movie. That hope allows her to not become bitter towards the world, and eventually it is her kind heart that teaches others to be loving. The dwarves save Snow White by leading the prince to her tomb-- the prince kisses her and it brings her back to life. The prince is a metaphor for how holding onto a dream can keep someone alive throughout adversity. The Queen is a metaphor for how resentment, bitterness, and jealousy leads to demise.
Metaphors aside, it would be a bummer if Snow White was always kind to everyone and at the end nobody returned the favor by helping to make her wish come true-- it would almost make it seem like it's not worth it to be kind or resilient.

It's kind of a slur, but it's cute, so all Canadians call the OG whites "mangecakes"). ANYWAY... I thought Rachel was a mangecake this whole time. I actually liked Rachel in the Hunger Games prequel trailer. I liked her a lot in that. I IMMEDIATELY disliked Rachel after watching 2 interviews about Snow White (one on the red carpet alone, and one sitting in a chair with Gal Gadot). I disliked her from that point because she acts like a typical teenage know-it-all who kiiiiinda hit the lottery early in life and now thinks she knows better than everybody. Like a brat. She's a great human, just super annoying RIGHT NOW with this "know it all ... I've got life all figured out... you're all doing it wrong" affect. It's just a phase. Got nothing to do with race. I have no doubt that a large number of people simply don't like her because she rubs them the wrong way and not because of racism.

The "It's impossible to be woman" speech from Barbie comes to mind when I think of Rachel. Step one toe out of line and you're pond scum and it's so easy to step out of line too as not only is the tight rope so thin but the goalposts change all the time. I mean just 10 years ago Rachel's opinion of old disney movies being outdated and sexist were all the rage, but then came the backlash and now it's not ok to express that maybe some these movies are a bit outdated. I don't think the solution is to remake them but to create new stories, but that's besides the point. It's just so frustrating sometimes. Hating an young woman you've likely never met isn't going to unmake the movie.
Also I can think of plenty of male actors who come off similar to Rachel in interviews and they either don't get called out one way or the other or even get praised for being bold.

Absolutely. I was disappointed to see the 2015 Cinderella criticised here, when it's a story of a domestic abuse survivor escaping the abuse and being respected and loved by a true friend, who so happens to be the prince. Some elements of traditional femininity are harmful, but that doesn't mean that absolutely everything that's ever featured in the female experience is unhelpful - to love and protect and save and enlighten and support are all human joys, and if enjoying them makes me anti-feminist, that saddens me.

@@Keykatriz Feminism is about making men and women equal under the assumption that women are always below men and must be raised up, regardless of the reality of the situation, basically a supremacy movement at this point. Example, even tho women do better at all levels of education, feminists look for specific areas like stem women aren't as interested in to cry inequality while never once trying to help men in areas they are disadvantaged in and even attack the idea of mens rights saying feminism is for gender equality, again while never helping men.
Also, Barbie was an insanely misandrist film that said "Women good, men bad, but men good if men act more like women''. The entire film portrayed men as idiots and as lesser beings and reduced their problems to ''toxic masculinity''. Yeah, let's make light of very real issue like male suicide, and let's just pretend it's that easy to fix. As someone who lost someone this year thanks to SS, the way feminism talks about male issues is disgusting. If feminism is about women, STOP TALKING ABOUT MEN!

It’s simple, take the original which was successful and liked and expand upon it. Don’t fucking reinvent the wheel… hell, the movie isn’t perfect, but it is a solid foundation to work from. Snow White as a character was perfectly fine as she was… not the most complex, but I’d say that she doesn’t need to be a “strong” female lead… they’re taking away what made Snow White… Snow White.

Rachel needs lessons in PR STAT. Doesn't she work with a talent agency? She's making massive, dumb mistakes that are common sense for 99% of people. Such as 1) Don't bash the original, don't make fun of it, don't belittle it. If you didn't like it... you can just... not comment on it. You don't need to put something else down to lift your thing up. Don't compare the 2 versions of Snow White and list alllll the ways YOUR new version is sooOOOoo much better. Think about Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. How would we feel if they were doing a remake of the LotR trilogy, and the new FRODO was taking a dump on the old Frodo or on Elijah Wood in every other interview. Imagine if the new FRODO critiqued the way Arwen gave up everything for Aragorn in the original story, as if it was such a dated concept. Or imagine if the new HARRY POTTER poopoo-ed Harry, Ron, and Hermione's dynamics. Imagine if the new HARRY said Hermoine should have been the main character because she was the smartest, but Harry got everything handed to him because boys are always portrayed as the most powerful main characters.... even though Hermione was clearly more powerful than Harry naturally. I mean... yeah that's not wrong...... but the new Harry doesn't have to poop on the old Harry in every interview. 2) Why did she even get the role of Snow White if she hated the original or was "scared" of it. (scared, wtf? It's a 2D cartoon with 1 ugly woman in it). Why didn't they give this role to another intelligent, beautiful, and uber talented actress who LOVED Snow White? Or at least..... liked it? Imagine if a new Frodo comes onto the scene and says, "Oh no, I think I watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy like.... ONCE? And I never watched it again. It was too scary. I HAD to force myself to watch it again for this role. Never again." Like.......................... what? I would automatically dislike that new Frodo. Or imagine the new Harry Potter saying he literally never read the books and only watched the movies once, 20 years ago, because it was too scary. And he FORCED himself to rewatch the Harry Potter movies just for this role. As if it was a chore. Wouldn't people feel chafed by that? ----- I'M NOT SAYING RACHEL IS EVIL OR BAD. I'm just saying her talent agency needs to pay for some basic PR training (I'll do it for $5... because it's so basic). And Disney cocked up by picking someone who clearly dislikes the original story. Some stories are legends. Hire someone who loves or likes the legend. Not someone who hates it or tolerates it at best. Super weird choice.

People forget that acting is a job. And like any job, you are not gonna like EVERY single aspect of it and that’s ok. Do you really believe all these actors really love all their roles? All the movies they’ve been in? That they really are “like a family”? Or maybeeeee they lied, they took the role cus just like every single person on earth they have bills to pay, that they said they love their character and sold you that idea so the movie would do well, they ACTED. At least Rachel is upfront about it instead of lying to our faces. Sadly, people would rather have a lie than the truth and she has learned that. Give her a break, this is her 2nd role she’s being in.
But don’t believe that actors really do love with all their hearts the roles they get casted cus more than half the time they take the role just cus or because they don’t have another choice. The HP cast a lot of them never read the books or even cared to, even after landing the role. The main cast has even said that it was bittersweet for them having those roles as the years went by. Emma Watson wanted to quit but had to convinced herself to finish the movies, not out of love but more out of obligation. Rupert Grint has said how hard those years doing HP was for him and didn’t loved it. Actors don’t have to love every aspect or role they are in, and that’s ok.

I don't agree with her take on what women's roles should be, but there are specific criticisms she could've pointed out about it that would've made more sense, such as the prince kissing her when she's asleep, her being only 14 and being basically a mother, her naivity and airheaded nature, etc.

normally i generally agree with your takes (and i’m a fan of your videos as a subscriber obviously) but the choice feminism rhetoric in this was pretty wild. i 100% agree that she doesn’t deserve the backlash she’s getting, but in terms of the competing feminist ideologies here, the tiktok cited at 2:25 is the same utterly ridiculous extremely online basic choice feminism bullshit that’s unfortunately taken hold on that app. it’s a bad take. it’s a reductive way to view feminism, women, and the world at large really. not every decision a woman makes has to be feminist. subscribing to traditional values and feminine traits is NOT feminist lol. and that’s okay! it’s not a competition to see who can live the most feminist life. this need to frame any choice a woman makes in her life as feminist simply because a woman made it is….bizarre? especially when those choices are things that the patriarchy/society find most acceptable. i truly think this is just a result of people spending far too much time online, to the point where you get takes like “let women be feminine! let men be masculine!” like please step outside, the majority of the world not only agrees with this but would prefer to enforce it. this is what makes stories of so called “strong women” feminist when they’re done well, because they challenge a long held status quo. i definitely agree that a lot of these stories are done very poorly, and i also agree that there’s a lot of different ways to show strength aside from like, wonder woman punching a guy. but ultimately what it comes down to is that making your own choices as a woman doesn’t mean those choices are inherently feminist ones, nor do they have to be. feminism is an ideology and a social movement, not a lifestyle. i’m also absolutely fascinated by the repeated use of the word “valuable” in that tiktok. the value of women is generally used in relation to men, what men value about women, what society is taught to value in a woman, what we are told we are supposed to aspire to if we wish to be seen as valuable by anybody. these things are usually anything along the following: cishet (obviously), thin/petite, feminine, hairless, obedient, servile, maternal and nurturing, etc. and this tiktoker is sat here saying that being soft and feminine and wanting love and babies and SAHM lifestyle doesn’t make you less valuable? gee, what a shock! it’s almost as if society hasn’t been telling us this since the beginning of time! you know who consistently gets devalued in society, anywhere other than the fucking internet? gay and trans women, non white women, fat women, hairy women, etc etc the list goes on. anyone who does not fit those specific set of ideals that society values. so yeah, utterly stupid tiktok, reactive bullshit because women who can’t be assed to deal with the societal blowback of not shaving or whatever decided to take it really personally that other women were being framed as “more feminist” than them.

I feel like the reason why most people are getting mad at the actors is not just about race( I’m not saying they’re not people out there who hate on it cuz it’s race swapping) it’s about many different things that all come together to make a larger problem. One of the major problems are these actors coming in with such entitlement like just because they are in a minority group means that every criticism they face is because of there race and they deserve these roles because of there minority. When the criticism they face for example the little mermaid people were mad because they changed so much of the movie and there was no magic to the movie. I get that it’s live action so it’s suppose to be realistic but mermaids aren’t real and they still made a live action of them, so why can’t they do like looney tunes did and still have the live action part of the humans but the animal character were still animated so they can still have the magic that was in the original. And on top of that when you remake a original movie you are banking off of the nostalgia of the old movie so why change anything about it if that’s what your banking on. I think hallie Bailey is a great singer but she just did not have the same energy as the OG Ariel which I grew up with and am very fawned of because I can relate to her not because we are both white but because she is so energetic and a little loose in the head and is so curious and passionate about what she loves that she would go against her family wishes to pursue her dreams where the new Ariel seems very dull and very reserved to herself which isn’t who Ariel is. She loves her passion so much that she shares it with every one . And I feel like the new Snow White is just going to go down the same path of straying so far from the original that it seems like a whole different movie but just with the characters of the OG that has sprinkles of the OG plot of the movie. Even if they did cast white people for the princesses but still kept the story line of the remake people would still have the same opinion. This whole woke movement has just made people so sensitive that if you give someone vailed criticism they will just turn around and be like oh your being racist . It’s like when a teacher is telling a parent that there child may need extra help on a certain subject more than the rest of the class the parent will turn around and start attacking the teacher saying that the teacher is saying that there kid is not normal and is singling them out, when the teacher is just giving vail criticism. I totally get it how sometimes when you get criticism from someone in your mind you can think that they are just trying to attack you cuz guess what I was that kid in class who wasn’t as smart as the rest of there class and my mom would attack the teacher instead actually take the criticism and use it to there advantage to help them grow, it’s hard but it’s what we really need to re learn as a society because it’s really bad.

Feminism was made for systemic critique, critisizing chatacters made by men who embody patriarchal feminine virtues isnt the same thing as saying its wrong for real life women to choose to be demure. The original TikTok is ridiculous. We've gotten to the point in this choice feminism hell where milquetoast takes like "the patriarchy and popular culture influenced by it can affect women" is something to scoff at, and retelling ancient stories, something weve been doing as a species since the dawn of time, is taken personally by people who like the version they saw when they were 6.

I assume when you call her demanding youre referring to the video of her on the picket lines talking about earning a fair wage for her job. While yes, it may seem out of touch for an actress playing a Disney princess to be demanding a fair wage, remember that Rachel is still very new to this industry and is nowhere near as rich as her costars. She does deserve a fair pay! Now, I don't see why she is considered disrespectful but someone like Robert Pattinson is considered funny and charming. He's notorious for hating on the role of Edward Cullen and the Twilight franchise and he is a serial interview liar. Ever seen a hate campaign against him? When you rub two braincells together you'll notice that Rachel is indeed grateful for this role. She is also being candid about her feelings towards the original movie and character. If Disney didn't think she was right for the role and the promo campaign, they wouldn't have hired her.
You're allowed to be mad at Disney but remember that Rachel didn't write the movie. She applied for a job, got the job, and is actively doing her job. She is an incredibly sweet person but because her real personality doesn't mimic that of the Disney princess, she's being steamrolled. Women are allowed to be slightly unpleasant ya know. She threw her crew under the bus on Twitter so she could force them into getting her into The Oscars. She threw her cast member A. Garfield under the bus by joking that he’s so unimportant to the film that all his lines might just be cut. She threw a fit for having to wear a dress and not getting paid…during a legitimate strike that’s supposed to help people in the film industry who are truly in need? 22 is not an excuse for any of this. The vast majority of well known actors today got their big break at 22….some even younger…and we didn’t see this sort of behavior from them. Her personality reeks of entitlement, narcissism, smugness, and pompousness. Even people who were livid that Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel had ZERO to say about Halle personally…and Halle was even younger than Rachel when casting was announced! “Zero to say about Halle personally”
Clearly you didn’t see any of the comments on social media criticizing Halle’s race and calling her ugly.

@@beethovensfidelio What I mean by “personally” is her personality and character. No one called Halle rude, snobby, defiant, etc. You couldn’t even if you tried because no one would believe you. She is genuinely just a nice and decent person.
Saying you don’t think someone is attractive has to do with one’s personal physical preferences…and while I am against anyone who would have called Halle ugly online (because it’s cruel and simply untrue)…it’s not a criticism on what kind of person she is to be around or engage with. That’s what’s going on with Rachel - she comes across as vindictive and spoiled via her OWN actions and her OWN words and her OWN behavior. She will turn out to be a Lea Michele 2.0 in my opinion.

we are allowed to "not like" certain character types- and entitled - which is the persona she presents (when not "acting" in interviews" -is the modern female idiom. You are as guilty as the haters (not liking a personality is note hate) in being selective in what you show and promote to support your arguement.

Thing is she is coming across as rude.
She was very negative about the original movie.
She also has no problem with attacking others as bad or worse than what she's getting. Two wrongs don't make a right.
But she doesn't deserve the pass some are wanting to give her.
I will say that the writers and director should take heat for the production, and she should take accountability for her actions and attitude

What I can’t understand about Disney hiring Rachel from a PR perspective is why they chose to hire someone who seems to dislike the original character of Snow White. Being how Disney is I would think they would heavily take into account how familiar the person is with the character they are portraying.

harrison ford didn't like star wars. robert pattison didn't like twilight. brad pitt called one of his movies "the most irresponsible bit of filmmaking." channing tatum said "i fucking hate that movie" when asked about GI Joe. george clooney has spoken negatively about batman a few times. christopher plummer said the sound of music wasn't his "cup of tea." ian mckellen said filming the hobbit was "miserable." leonardo dicaprio said the same thing about filiming titanic. daniel craig said he'd rather "slash his wrists" than do another james bond movie. rowan atkinson said it was stressful and exhausting to play mr bean. christian bale thought it was embarrassing to be the star of newsies. zac efron resents his high school musical character.
MEN DO THIS ALL THE FUCKING TIME AND NO ONE CARES. what are you all REALLY upset about? that she's colombian? that she's another young woman rising into fame? that disney is becoming more diverse? people in this comment section - please go figure out why you're so devastated about a children's movie and go talk about it in therapy instead of harassing a young woman that you know nothing about.

i think ots just jarring how much it seems she dislikes the character of snow white, the og voive actor LOVED snow white even though she was snubbed by disney. Lots of people are supporting the new little meraid bc of how Halle embodies Ariel in PR and in irl.
