Right, and then it wouldn't seem to creepy! I've seen so many impersonators of Dolly Parton, Britney Spears, Cher etc who look just like them (some can even sing just like them) and they get loads of support. It's not being a celebrity impersonator that's the problem, it's the way Ashley is going about it. She's coming off as obsessed and delusional.

Exactly - if she owned it and said “I’m a huge fan and this is how I pay homage to her” it wouldn’t be off putting. It’s just weird when she says things like “I don’t see it. Come on, I have brown eyes and hers are blue.” She hasn’t always looked like her, and obviously styles herself to look more like her. She has even changed her voice and mannerisms to be more like TS. And having the same favorite number, loving the same TV show, and getting a cat who looks like Taylor’s? Come on, girl, just be real with it. As a Swiftie, I can say that one of things I love the most about Taylor is that she is authentic and genuine. I’d get it if Ashley said “I really enjoy mirroring parts of her life. It makes me happy, and I hope Swifties will watch my content and enjoy seeing an everyday mom who resembles Taylor who imagines what it would be like to actually be her. So, let’s talk about which outfit I should wear to cosplay Dear John.” Or “You’ve asked if I can sing. The answer is NO! Here’s proof with me butchering “Back to December.” I’d be all in for that funny, relatable person who isn’t trying too hard and not living the truth.
I think that the only person she's really hurting is herself, there is a deeply unhealthy parasocial attachment to this and I absolutely don't think for a second she genuinely believes all of this is 'coincidence' or that she isn't putting in massive effort to achieve the same appearance and mannerisms - I think she wants other people to believe that to be the case. Ashley desperately needs to be seeing a therapist for this behavior because it's clear she is not a mentally well individual.

I think in a way, she's also indirectly hurting Taylor. She's promoting this behaviour of fans bothering Taylor when Taylor has spoken out about how much she hates this.
If Ashley keeps this up I won't be surprised if Taylor or her team does something about it

I find it deeply unsettling that she would go to such lengths (hairstyle, makeup, **adopting a living sentient being**, possible surgery/implants) to look like a celebrity. When Taylor Swift talks about sometimes fame making her not feeling fully human this absolutely includes individuals like this woman. She doesn't even look that much like her, she is making herself look like her and I hate that she is receiving so much attention.

I don't think it's creepy, there are Michael Jackson and Elvis impersonators that are also highly talented, and you can see their love and respect for the celebrity they are impersonating. This lady is creepy because she's pretending as if she's not trying to impersonate, and therefore seems to disrespect Taylor and her fans.

Lol it’s so cringe that she thinks she’s doing something being the dollar store version of Taylor Swift. Yeah from certain angles with the same styling, makeup and a heavy filter she kinda looks like Taylor but seeing her in that TV interview really showed that a lot of what makes her resemble Taylor is just trickery. And yeah she kinda has the same body type but Taylor is super tall with a very small frame and she doesn’t quite pull it off.
I don't like that Ashley did a "social experiment" and intentionally deceived the public and caused a commotion by making everyone think she was Taylor.
Also, her acting like it's all a coincidence even though she's very clearly copying her style, mannerisms, and speech patterns is a bit concerning.
I think if she just admitted she likes the attention and wants to look like Taylor a lot less people would be upset at her.

As a Swiftie, if I met Ashley in public thinking she was Taylor and I started freaking out/getting emotional, I would be disappointed* if I figured out later that she was just an impersonator. She KNOWS what she's doing, she's purposefully misleading people for clout, and it totally rubs me the wrong way that this isn't even accidental. Ugh.

I went to a concert of a Bowie impersonator and the difference between him and Ashley is very noticeable.
The Bowie impersonator I saw, embraced Bowie, talking about his career and life (fun fact: the impersonator was actually a neighbour of Bowie, who had gone to one of his gigs).
The point of the impersonator was to embrace the celebrity and share the love and admiration that celebrity gives to fans who are unable to see the celebrity in person for whatever reason.

They all sang and played instruments also. I paid to see a tribute band. They didn't try to act like they were The Beatles themselves and try to pass as Paul or Ringo.. big difference between them and this Ashley chic.
This is an amazing point and I agree 100%. There is a huge difference between a cover band, a drag performance, or an impersonater, and what she is doing. Those people are trying to honor the person they look up to. Ashley is trying to become her.
This situation sort of reminds me of "Joan is Awful" from Black Mirror. Imo it would be so TERRIFYING to not only see someone impersonating you but also now any time people hear about controversies and bad press related to Ashley, Taylor Swift is associated with it. Personally, I'm not a big Taylor Swift fan, but if someone started impersonating me on TikTok I would probably die, so why is it okay just because she's a celebrity???
I don't think impersonating someone is bad. I mean, drag queens love impersonating their favorite female pop singers bc they admire their work and their feminine confidence. But what's Ashley's doing is totally unhealthy and way different.

Saying “it’s just Ashley” is a super weird and confusing way to refer to oneself. If she actually wanted to be clear, she’d say “I’m not Taylor Swift” and/ or “I’m Ashley” like a normal human.
Even Brittney spears does a voice that's not her real one. Just sayin.
Another thing to be considered is the SAFETY aspect. Taylor has so many known stalkers and she talks countless times about how that thing scared the hell out of her. There is a reason why she always has top-notch security and even snipers being placed on the rooftop of her stadium concerts. Ashley doing the "social experiment" just for clout is indirectly disrespecting Taylor when in reality, Taylor really dislikes the idea of being swarmed by people, uninvited. What if Ashley got unlucky one day and one of those bad guys mistaken her as Taylor and then hurt her? This is not funny anymore.

Personally I'm super wary of crowd crushes and the number of lives that can be taken when too many people wind up in the exact same place at the exact same time. It happened in Seoul last halloween. The thing that makes it unsettling, is how out of her way she HAS to go to look and act like her, because she really doesn't. She has moments where she does, after she's spent however long perfecting her make up and videos/photos to look and act like her, and when she has sunglasses on I couldn't blame anyone for fully thinking it was her (especially with the bouncers), but on that interview where you get a good long look at her and her mannerisms, she doesn't. There's no resemblance without a lot of effort and it fools no-one. Impersonators are fine, because they own what they are doing and that they're a separate person. Look a-likes exist and laugh it off or lean into but not to the extent where they are purposefully trying to be recognized as this person.
It feels weird because it is a calculated manipulation that makes you feel gaslighted, and the fact that she thinks she can lie about what she's doing solidifies that feeling. I'd be insulted and unnerved if I was Taylor personally. It's one thing to draw inspiration, it's another thing to 'Single White Female' someone.
Wonder what happens if Taylor Swift changes her whole look…? Will she suddenly get rid of the bangs , etc. then? that would be interesting to see what happens then

@@Mel-jl8dt so while i agree that you shouldn't do that while impersonating anyone, and also hate what i'm about to mention too, within like 5-10 years max (i don't know the tech industry so maybe less) there will be AI videos of people doing that stuff, of literally everyone from celebrities to random people posting tiktoks or youtube videos. if you share enough photos it can be done as AI advances. it will be commonplace and it'll probably take years to get any legislation stopping it in place, similarly to upskirt photos being legal for paparazzi to take and distribute without consent for years in the early-mid 2000's when digital cameras finally became high enough quality to replace film cameras but there was nothing to protect people who are famous from that for literal years because it was a new problem, like AI misinformation will become

i was at the same mall where ashley did that prank, me and my sisters were ruining around trying to find "taylor". my younger cousin took a picture with ashley, because SHE SAID she was taylor. the look of her face was pure joy, and she was devastated when we told her it wasn’t taylor. really wasn’t that fun to us

There's an Indian movie called FAN about this exact thing. The fan is a look-alike of an actor and is obsessed with him. But when he can't meet the star he starts to purposefully sabotage the actors image. Acts inappropriate with females. And commits a lot of crime and though the police know what's going on, the public totally turns against the star. It's really crazy.

The thing is if she were just a impersonator nobody would care. But she keeps saying about how she tries to avoid it (clear lies) and then goes out of her way to live like Taylor. She had a mental breakdown (for show I'm sure) after Taylor commented on her video and she started crying about how important it is to her because she sees Taylors mother as her own. It's just creepy. Impersonating for a gig is fine, but like you said, people should own their own likeness and this crosses the line.

The thing is, you see those shows about people saying they wanted to look like Ariana Grande, Zac Efron, and just Superman. Now, they never really end up looking like them, but they’re honest about wanting to look like the celebrity. But with Ashley, she will deny it because if she says she wanted to look like her, all the attention is gone because the only reason she’s still relevant is because everyone wants her to admit it. If she came out saying that she wanted to look like Taylor, and then did the experiment, we would feel like we were in on the joke to everyone who thought it really was her. Just like every celebrity/ influence, if you ignore them, they just disappear.
I'm glad they mentioned the Ariana Grande impersonator too because it's soooo unhealthy that they both do this. It's also gross to me that they pretend to be them and the people actually think they are meeting the real person. They literally just want clout and attention, outside of them kinda looking like the celebrity, they wouldn't be popular. Just be yourself, it's not that hard 💀

If Ashley pretended to be someone who wasn't a celebrity, it would definitely be identity theft. It shouldn't be different just because Taylor Swift is a celebrity. I would regard it as identity theft and I also just find it weird that Ashley goes to great lengths to walk, talk, and look like Taylor Swift. Great video though 👍

I get that attention can be addictive, but there's so many ways to get attention online (including as a clearly-disclosed celebrity impersonator) that I don't see why someone would choose to do so by professionally disappointing people. Could be because I *hate* letting people down in general, but I can't fathom deliberately choosing to make almost every interaction a stranger has with me a moment of overwhelming joy followed by crushing disappointment.

She deserves any backlash she gets because she is actively doing this on purpose! She does NOT look like Taylor without trying as hard as she does. When she used to talk with a higher voice, her mouth would move more, especially the top lip but now that she talks lower like Taylor, she doesn’t move her mouth as much… Just like Taylor. It’s very annoying-.- end it seems like it’s very difficult to be Taylor Swift, not being able to go anywhere without being bombarded by hundreds if not thousands of people… Why would you try to get that for yourself. If Taylor could wipe away the make up and pull all of her hair back and look completely different and go out and not be recognized. I think she is fighting back in an unconscious way or a subconscious way for her identity. I think it started out with getting compliments about her similar appearance and spiraled into this mess. Suddenly she felt visible and it felt good so f it why not just become her. There’s also a smidge of resentment for the celebrity that is visible to me through a very obscure lens. It has to do with the distortion of sentiment surrounding “wow somebody else could live my life better than me “ ….

It's usually a compliment when someone tells you that you look like a famous person. This reminds me of that other Ariana youtuber Gabi is her name? Same story..."oh I don't know much about her/I have no idea what you mean!" but then in the background you see Ariana memorabilia and do your makeup and hair the same which is most of the job then they obviously study their mannerisms and I think in some twisted reality they think they really ARE that famous person.

The issue is that she has seemed to made this her entire personality & life, & she desperately wants people to believe that she looks just like her, as I think she’s convinced herself of that. Something tells me she’s not mentally well… it seems that she’s even changed her voice & mannerisms to be like TS, & she got the same cat so this is obviously not merely something for the internet but deeply bound to herself as a person, or the lack of a person as she’s melded himself to BE Taylor.

She's really hurting herself and goes out of her way to prove she's always looked like Taylor, to the point she's going to release a video with a surgeon to prove she hasn't had surgery. She constantly contradicts herself (she used to say she was an OG Swiftie, now she says she's never been a fan, that she doesn't know anything about Taylor really, but then she says she's a super fan too but not a Swiftie).
She has bullied a lot of TS cosplayers (who disclose that they're cosplaying), claiming they're trying to look like her (not like Taylor... like Ashley). She was bashing a girl saying: "the blonde chick wearing blue contacts? Yeah that's not me, she's trying to, but she's not me" (something along those lines). She also threatened this girl with a lawyer. Funny, considering her entire "career" consists on her trying hard to be TS.
This girl really needs help.
the whole "dressing up as a celebrity and going out prank" is actually very dangerous. It's obvious it's gonna cause a commotion and that many people in one place, pushing each other with almost no security, it can easily get real ugly real fast. There's a reason real celebrities, especially big ones, don't go out that much.
Not to mention fans who might want to hurt a real actor or singer and go out of their way to bring an arsenal.... Think of how many people could be hurt. Ashley doesn't think of the ramifications of this obsession of hers.
The way I was literally Ashley to some random person online, I spent hours and hours consuming their social media pages. I might be a very delusional person and I really dislike whatever this part of myself is because I have lost all sense of self. I don’t know my favorite color is anymore, or what I actually like or dislike. I can’t tell if the real me likes something or if I am subconsciously still thinking I’m that person & choosing what I like based off of whether I think they would like it too. I’ve avoided all social media theyre on now to heal but I feel broken, because I don’t recognize myself in the mirror anymore? I use to get that I look like them too, and I’d also go ‘no no, I don’t see it’ but I purposely put so much effort into looking like them. Now I really don’t see the resemblance, I don’t even see myself. I just feel like a stranger to myself, and when I try on clothes I feel awkward. The most messed up part is I forced myself to be their exact weight, which is underweight and I was almost overweight when I first found their page. I used them as motivation to fuel my eating disorder, I hate it. I wish I was different, and whenever I see this girl, I see myself a bit. The attention she gets from looking like someone she has a parasocial relationship with probably makes her feel really happy and confident, that’s also how I felt. Now I struggle to see why anyone would ever think I look okay, i’m a shell of a human with no hobbies or interests and it’s terrible. I feel alien and lost, I write this comment only to show people the other side and maybe hopefully someone can share advice on how to find myself (the real me) because I am afraid I will never feel normal
I’m no expert, but maybe these things could help:
1. Try new dishes, clothes or hairstyles to see which ones you feel more comfortable with, and maybe that could help you create a style of your own too.
2. Make a list of all the colors you can think of and write what pops in your mind when you associate them with said colors. Perhaps you could find a color that matches your favorite things or gives you a sense of joy.
3. When searching for hobbies, you can search for something that encourages you to practice and dedication, no matter how big or small the activity is.
