Imagine a couple dozen of these with solar panels, more robust construction, and various sensor clusters, deployed on other planets by NASA replacing wheeled rovers.
Valken Advantage is that it's capable of rougher terrain than wheeled vehicle would be. It's also small and 3D printable, meaning mass producible and you can fit many on a space vehicle. So it can cover much more ground per unit time than a single rover would.
Valken As with any rover on another planet solar is the only viable long term power source. There are radioisotope thermoelectric generators, but I don't think that's practical for something of this size.
Wrong. Rovers are usually nuclear powered: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiosity_(rover)#Specifications 125 watts for 899 kg. No fangs ,no spinnerets, doesn't walk up walls, not even an aggressive behavior mode ...but really cool for a prototype! I can see the micro spider versions with a lot more features and a more life like motion movement being innovated in the near future . Cool!
The movements are a lot like jumping spiders, especially when it is "looking around" with that curiosity type movement. When it's finally a product for sale, it should be given a jumping spider eye pattern.
Joel C That stuff is already out. You need a camera with very little latency, a VTX (video transmitter) with a cloverleaf antenna and goggles with a screen. I have this stuff on my quads
We already have small enough drones and now they are developing wasp-size robots for industrial and comercial spying . We are getting closer to our downfall.
My God, that is literally what I picture in my head when I hear the word Hell. That amazingly realistic spider toy is the creepiest thing I've ever seen. When it stands up or looks at you, is when I shit bricks. It's more creepy than a real spider. It's a $3,000 nightmare come true. I wanted to see Adam Savage's awesome spider, but instead I get to be haunted for the rest of my days by a toy. I'm gonna go hire a therapist.
This robot should have a function to lift its forelegs up in a threat display, either first pair only, or two first pairs depending on what spider it's mimicking.
actually, they kind of do, there is someone called Project Hexapod, that made a giant robotic spider with a cockpit called Stompy, the rideable robot. you can check it out on kickstarter or google it. They met their quota there too, so if they're finished, and you go up there, you can ride it or check out their progress. I think I remember them talking about schematics to make it to release to public, but i'm not certain, you'll have to look it up, but it's totally out there!
make the remote control mount on the bug stand when driving the spider! the stand will then hold the spider in transport, then during repairs and then hold the joystick remote during use!
yea i dont see why evolution isnt possible with these things, I mean not like this little robot with limited memory capacity. But if governments fund and build an incredibly biological and almost intellectual robot of some sort, evolution is logically possible...
timwitt94 evolution happens over a long period of time and over many many generations by natural mutation and since robots dont reproduce there would be no evolution unless made by humans
edgarallan notpoe Exactly, who is to say the processing power of a robot created specifically to evolve would not be able to do the math to make evolution possible in a artificially biological manner? And make it happen even faster than nature? It's a scary thought, but it is DAMN possible.
To totally mimic real spider movements/motions is awesome. They are such versatile legged creatures. Given time and finer tuning, a half man sized version would be worth seeing. Particularly the way spiders can spring into action sometimes, let alone climb walls
I have an idea. Make a robot spider... that does 3D Printing. It can build webs, structures, print back holes to walls... a whole lot of things. It just makes perfect sense.
That, or possibly mice? Gophers? Birds? I love your idea though. If they could figure out how to manufacture spider webs artificially, they could use a micro "spinner" robot to fill a small crack or hole in a structure. Maybe use moon rover spider bots to make buildings and fill in caves or something? Lol. So cool to think about. Using "spider leg" rovers on Mars or the Moon instead of wheels could work well if appropriately designed.
I love the fact that I am watching a video about , a robot spider and in the background is, the spider-head from the movie "the thing" a very nice touch
One thing that makes me sad is that the mythbusters disbanded, and I remember that Jamie liked spider robots. He talked about his work in the Arachnophobia film, the racing spiders, and the giant spider he intended to ride someday. This robot spider is awesome and I wish Jamie was there so we could see his expression and listen to what he thinks about it.
haha, it broke because he didn't tun it on properly , and you want a jump option ? how about walking on walls or a built in camera like this spider is pretty much useless , and you pay 2000 bucks to play with it for 20 min ?
Wish I had $1300 to spare back when Robugtix announced this thing - I'd be having SO much fun freaking people out... (Right up until someone panics and stomps it into a small pile of plastic shards!)

They have a professional version for like search and rescue or hazardous environments, and an industrial one that is huge and moves fast, also a huge one on the consumer side that looks like a black widow, bug enough to hold it's one trick or treat bag
He's AMAZED by the THOUGHTFUL engineering that went into this thing - but still thinks that LIVING spiders are machines that Nature put together RANDOMLY - without any thought at all. SURE - atheist. : P
Actually, modern spiders come from a vast cycle of failures and successes that eventually killed off the failures and made the successes mate more and more to the point they are now... Just as with anything else. Sooo... Yeah... But hey, you tried!

make it as big as a car and it can be extremely useful in lot of situations. camping, rescue, exploration ..etc. It needs more than just preset movements to navigate properly, but i'm sure it would be easy to do. mount some cameras and stuff on it. Then it could have a follow mode and it follows you, carrying your stuff .. or even yourself.
!!! It could be a dual stage system. The hydrocopter delivers the spider with the package attached, and then the spider enters through the doggie door and sets it on your counter. Make it happen Amazon.

Why you haven't burn the house yet?
Picture or it didn't happen.
Mohammad Obaid That is why they built the BREN tower.
The real one is more awesome
do you by any chance, live next in Fukushima
I am afraid to watch videos about spiders, because I am afraid that a spider nearby may see it and come to the screen thinking its a friend or relative.
Ummmmmm....,,.......
+Kasperi01 nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo some are vicious..
+Dennis Geoffroy Spiders hate eachother so your good.
+Dennis Geoffroy WHY DID YOU POST THAT WHERE A PARANOIC LIKE ME (WHO LIVES IN A TOWN AND IN A HOUSE WITH SOOOOO MANY SPIDERS) COULD READ IT!! hate you hard. :
Kasperi01 some do....
this video puts me in an odd mental state. i want to watch this because of my love for robotics, but i don't want to watch it because of my lifelong arachnophobia. damn it tested your scaring the shit out of me.
thekingofcardboard Same here! >.< its killing me!
No fangs ,no spinnerets, doesn't walk up walls, not even an aggressive behavior mode ...but really cool for a prototype! I can see the micro spider versions with a lot more features and a more life like motion movement being innovated in the near future . Cool!
How can you harm this little guy. he can dance!!! ITS AMAZING!
The movements are a lot like jumping spiders, especially when it is "looking around" with that curiosity type movement. When it's finally a product for sale, it should be given a jumping spider eye pattern.
This would be ultimate spy tech to mount a camera where the "eye" is and Link it to a VR headset like the Oculus Rift
+Joel C i|d just put it on a rc car
Joel C That stuff is already out. You need a camera with very little latency, a VTX (video transmitter) with a cloverleaf antenna and goggles with a screen. I have this stuff on my quads
We already have small enough drones and now they are developing wasp-size robots for industrial and comercial spying .
We are getting closer to our downfall.
This thing is fanatastic! It's so alive and animated, man thats advanced, really shows you how well designed and made it is.
Dear lord, that thing is terrifying, I love it.
I'm gonna go hire a therapist.
be a man dude jesus
It's a joke.
-__-" people...
***** Also, your kind of mean to him.
JESUS MAN!
This robot should have a function to lift its forelegs up in a threat display, either first pair only, or two first pairs depending on what spider it's mimicking.
"My Mythbusters producer..."
Yikes, my nostalgia is overflowing.
If they made a giant version of one of these with a cockpit I would *TOTALLY* buy it instead of a car! XD
actually, they kind of do, there is someone called Project Hexapod, that made a giant robotic spider with a cockpit called Stompy, the rideable robot. you can check it out on kickstarter or google it.
This thing is amazing.
This is the first time i've ever seen you say something positive in a videos
urmahjzing, oi
***** Sorry i cannot take you serious with that name.
***** You know nothing.
Hey masterkizz!
Omg. I was here when this was new. Now the youtube algorithm is recommending it again.
These things are once gonna rule the planet ...scary
They will evolve like pokemons you'll see!
yea i dont see why evolution isnt possible with these things, I mean not like this little robot with limited memory capacity.
It's a scary thought, but it is DAMN possible.
timwitt94 Because robots do not grow, develop or reproduce
I would love to see how it handles walking up the bumper on the pool table, or any other non-flat surface.
"They dont make these in all Metal Gear versions" ....oh trust me, they do...they do - Snake
To totally mimic real spider movements/motions is awesome.
They are such versatile legged creatures.
Given time and finer tuning, a half man sized version would be worth seeing.
Particularly the way spiders can spring into action sometimes, let alone climb walls
Now it only needs a build in death laser ray in his eye and this thing would be the best invention since fire!
Then put it in Justin biebers dressing room
Callum Cook exactly LOL
I have an idea. Make a robot spider... that does 3D Printing.
It can build webs, structures, print back holes to walls... a whole lot of things.
It just makes perfect sense.
That would take years of research and a lot of money's
That, or possibly mice? Gophers? Birds? I love your idea though. If they could figure out how to manufacture spider webs artificially, they could use a micro "spinner" robot to fill a small crack or hole in a structure. Maybe use moon rover spider bots to make buildings and fill in caves or something? Lol. So cool to think about.
Using "spider leg" rovers on Mars or the Moon instead of wheels could work well if appropriately designed.
The distant ancestor of the Replicators....
It begins....
It needs a jump option!
haha, it broke because he didn't tun it on properly , and you want a jump option ? how about walking on walls or a built in camera like this spider is pretty much useless , and you pay 2000 bucks to play with it for 20 min ?
You should mount one of those micro cameras to it, to get a kind of first spider view. Absolutely amazing. WANT.
Wish I had $1300 to spare back when Robugtix announced this thing - I'd be having SO much fun freaking people out... (Right up until someone panics and stomps it into a small pile of plastic shards!)
I just checked their site, they got it reduced to $499.00 and $135.00 for the controller.
Marchant2
Yeah, that should be the injection-molded less-expensive variant that was mentioned in the video.
6:55 I really expected adam to make it facehugger him.
How much money do I have to throw at the screen until an amazon drone puts this on my lap?!?!?!
King Duck about 3k...
TrueGamerX14 DEAL! *throws shit tons of money at the screen*
King Duck Haha :'D
TrueGamerX14 700$ for the 3d printer one (The one in the video) which is pretty much the same, and a lot cheaper
El rincon de obey That isn't by amazon drone though.
best channel for Robo stuff
wonder if they have improved this in 2019
i saw this video after trying to search information for this robot spider www.envoyshow.com/products/factory-direct-diy-electric-spider-robot-cross-border-selling-children-39-s-educational-toys?variant=31717372002394 don't know if its the same one "updated" tho
wait now i also found this store.robugtix.com/t8x/ so the first link could be a fraud i don't know
@@s.f.3605 Damn they're expensive
They have a professional version for like search and rescue or hazardous environments, and an industrial one that is huge and moves fast, also a huge one on the consumer side that looks like a black widow, bug enough to hold it's one trick or treat bag
I thought robot spiders come with 8 cameras and tazer fang system.
Very soon, Phillip, very bloody soon, hopefully they replace the police
This gives me an idea
He's AMAZED by the THOUGHTFUL engineering that went into this thing - but still thinks that LIVING spiders are machines that Nature put together RANDOMLY - without any thought at all.
SURE - atheist. : P
CHEKMATE, ATHEISTS!
Actually, modern spiders come from a vast cycle of failures and successes that eventually killed off the failures and made the successes mate more and more to the point they are now... Just as with anything else. Sooo... Yeah... But hey, you tried!
Fryday Sounds like a fantasy. And now say we deal in a fantasy - and make a parody of the Holy Mystery and mock Him as our Sky Daddy. You're still dealing in a fantasy - legitimized by a method that's grounded in another fantasy - this cute idea that Truth is limited to what Rationalism says about it. You and the aging gizmo-boy here belong to a CULT.
Fryday
jut dont bother. you really shouldnt be arguing about this stuff. except you want to try yourself at arguing skills. have a nice day and enjoy believing the right thing.
SelectCircle The test of truth is verifiability. Study the history and nature of facts if you wish to gain insight. I also suggest looking up the definition of cult.
make it as big as a car and it can be extremely useful in lot of situations. camping, rescue, exploration ..etc. It needs more than just preset movements to navigate properly, but i'm sure it would be easy to do. mount some cameras and stuff on it. Then it could have a follow mode and it follows you, carrying your stuff .. or even yourself.
They should make a half-life head crab with this XD
That would be fucking terrifying and glorious.
yes yes its all fun and games now but wait till this spider starts jumping and shoot lazers out of his eyes :D
Give them 5 years and they will crawl up walls.
Give them another 5 years and they will take over the world.
Mikey H
not if my wife kill them first.
wanyusri84 Well spoken mate. Well spoken xD
You will get my interest, when you build larger armed versions. I'll have an army of them.
They should make a facehugger type.
I'm sorry but if I see this it's going to be flattened by my giant, robotic rolled up newspaper.
Great. Now i just need to preorder a large, rolled up and robotic newspaper.
This is something that’s just seriously amazing
226 people are arachnophobic.
How long before Amazon is using these to deliver packages?
!!!
It could be a dual stage system. The hydrocopter delivers the spider with the package attached, and then the spider enters through the doggie door and sets it on your counter.
Make it happen Amazon.
Ultimate evil plan:
1. Find an arachnophobic
2. Order a lot of things from Amazon to his house
3. Wait for spider apocalypse :3
miss these videos
Fast forward ten yrs from now an revisit this thing. It will b unreal....
