So this is actually one of his most useful inventions. Depending on the cost how how it can be scaled (up or down), this could be anywhere from schools to museums, etc. It has some pretty intense implications in lessons about space and gravity.

It also has to be transported and installed on the job site. and needs it entire radius of space free of obstrucion to function...to what get a single guy on a roof sort of quicker? You can also only work on spaces immediately on the circumference of the machine. He doesn't have full movement of the area. He can essentially only go in a circle so unless a roofer is working on some sort of tube that for some reason matches the exact dimension off this thing you'd get essentially nothing done Your idea would be a complete failure of concept and it wouldn't do anything faster. It would take longer need to be incredibly precise to the crane and be a financial loss The only reason he was able to make contact with the pallets and board was because they put them exactly where they needed to be and the end of the armatures reach. You will not find that on a job site you need to be able to move forward and backwards way more easily instead of being locked to a circle ⭕ Fun on the job site sure....in any manner practical no. I suppose you could use it like a quick elevator to get to the top of a roof and unharness. When you get there. But.... I'm still thinking a ladder is way more practical
I can not believe my eyes. It says WARFRAME, my favourite game! I am now imagining this paired with VR Warframe and electronically controlled arm that replicates the ingame aim gliding running and parkour. I am also grinning at his baby steps
I thought about that when he teased this yesterday, and concluded the opposite is true. This IS real, not virtual, so the treadmill and taditional VR headset is moot. Some kind of translucent headset with characters/ obstacles dotted-about in real space could work tho.
This technology has incredible potential for motion tracking actors. Speed up the wall running a little afterwards for example and you've got a super realistic wall run animation.
Never mind crappy speeding up video. Just make a controllable one and an operator could speed up the swing and then slow it down for the landing. It’d be amazing for Spider-Man movies when he’s running on the side of a wall, they could even make one for web swinging.
I actually think this is the cleverest thing he's ever built. The amount of applications this could have is incredible: theme parks, entertainment hire, use in maintenance and engineering, use in film and special effects, shows, circus', live entertainment...I hope he slaps a patent on it if possible.

Yeah i mean it is a good idea technically, but actually there are already better tequenics for those movie sequences with elastic ropes and moving around some mini cranes. At least as far as I know. They are better because they dont require you to move around in a circle and it's less to photoshop in the end I guess. But of course this method with this thingy build here probably also has its perks!!
You could make a holodeck with this. Add a ring of treadmills around in a circle so that you can run forwards and backwards, and then to go left or right you spin around the machine. With a VR headset it might feel pretty seamless.
The only thing I worry about with the current design is the potential for very painful landings if you're not fully aware, mostly spine damage for anyone upside down bonking into the ground.

Well he actually over-engineered it. Remember the 360 swing? That makes this less sketchy compared to the "normal" stuffs he's doing. But definitely just as fun and crazy
personally i would switch faith with confidence. faith means there would almost imply luck is involved. with something like this you cant depend on luck. confidence however is even if even if you know something is 100% safe, it can still be scary like with (heights or fast speeds for instance, which he often does) while knowing factually you did everything right. you triple checked everything. besides, he always has his safety tie ;)
I guess with some external cameras and the right algorithm you can keep the user upright at all times while wearing the VR headset. The future of immersive VR is about to get insane.

What would be really cool is if the seat had a scale of some sort in it, then you code up an Arduino or something to do some maths and automatically adjust the arm length for the weight of any person. You could also easily set it to have different presets to simulate gravity on different planets/the moon!
I recall there was a handle to lock it in place with push of a button. Pretty easy to make it wireless and have two buttons, one for user and second for the safety person outside. Only danger is slipping from the harness but there is better harness for that and momentum slamming you into obstacle, but braking system solves most of that. Only possible danger that comes to mind if welds tress failing, but given Colins welding skills i doubt that is a issue.
Bung on a space suit, create a lunar lanscape and we can all experience walking on the moon. Or bung on a VR headset showing the moon in conjuction with this and that would be the perfect walking on the moon experience!

One of the hardest obstacles to get over when learning parkour is fear I think something like this could potentially be used as a learning tool to help assist newbies to get over that fear so they can take the steps to learn how a move works more safely before they do the real thing It's a thing that could help assist those that need that extra step to move on so they don't just pack their bags and give up on a certain move It's like doing knee pushups before moving on to real pushups kind of

The motions of a real human in this are so much more physically realistic than anything MCU cg animators have come up with. This needs to be used to create reference footage.
I'm fairly sure I've seen rigs like this (except more complex) used in behind the scenes footage of various movies that involve flying or low gravity shenanigans.
man id love to see a whole circular platforming level made around it like a super mario level where you have to hit certain buttons to open up paths to the next section. Building it around a half dome would be a blast. that would probably be a good fairground or escape room type attraction.

I think to make your seat more advanced you should look into mimicking a camera gimbal and design the seat to be like one of those. Important things are balancing and maybe motorising it. Once you have that the possibilities are endless. You could hire this machine out to film companies to use for movies!

I think the liability would be too high for a theme park. It would be super easy to get twisted around and bump your head or injure yourself.

Oh boy, yes. Fairly easy to add rotation sensors, slightly more difficult to get realistic in-game distance and contact with walls and ground
But you'd just be running in circles...
Also incredibly dangerous... that arm has tons of momentum, if you ram yourself blindly head-first into the ground, you'll have a bad day
I guess with some external cameras and the right algorithm you can keep the user upright at all times while wearing the VR headset. The future of immersive VR is about to get insane.

This is absolutely one of the coolest machines I have seen built , if Hollywood doesn't have a similar machine they need one . I can't imagine all the cool action shots they could get with this

What would be really cool is if the seat had a scale of some sort in it, then you code up an Arduino or something to do some maths and automatically adjust the arm length for the weight of any person. You could also easily set it to have different presets to simulate gravity on different planets/the moon!

I recall there was a handle to lock it in place with push of a button. Pretty easy to make it wireless and have two buttons, one for user and second for the safety person outside. Only danger is slipping from the harness but there is better harness for that and momentum slamming you into obstacle, but braking system solves most of that. Only possible danger that comes to mind if welds tress failing, but given Colins welding skills i doubt that is a issue.
Bung on a space suit, create a lunar lanscape and we can all experience walking on the moon. Or bung on a VR headset showing the moon in conjuction with this and that would be the perfect walking on the moon experience!

Camera cranes already work like this. And the amount of work painting this out compared to wires is insane.

@@Secret_Squirrel_Scottishgamer that's the least of the issues, changing the weight it's calibrated to is almost as simple as just changing the counterweights at the back.
Could make some good money doing that but I'm wouldn't be surprised if the already have something like this
@@-canopus-513 you wouldn’t need to mess with the counterweight. There is a hydraulic cylinder, to lengthen the arm, altering the CG.

One of the hardest obstacles to get over when learning parkour is fear
I think something like this could potentially be used as a learning tool to help assist newbies to get
over that fear so they can take the steps to learn how a move works more safely before they do the
real thing
It's a thing that could help assist those that need that extra step to move on so they don't just pack
their bags and give up on a certain move

The motions of a real human in this are so much more physically realistic than anything MCU cg animators have come up with. This needs to be used to create reference footage.
If the rig can be slimmed and the arm hidden with green screen it could just be practical effects

I'm fairly sure I've seen rigs like this (except more complex) used in behind the scenes footage of various movies that involve flying or low gravity shenanigans.

man id love to see a whole circular platforming level made around it like a super mario level where you have to hit certain buttons to open up paths to the next section. Building it around a half dome would be a blast. that would probably be a good fairground or escape room type attraction.

I think to make your seat more advanced you should look into mimicking a camera gimbal and design the seat to be like one of those. Important things are balancing and maybe motorising it. Once you have that the possibilities are endless. You could hire this machine out to film companies to use for movies!
Yeah, you can then control it remotely with another rig with rotary encoders that the cameraman operates.
