Have to remind ourselves that while in the west we expect a cheap place to be unsanitary and smelly, but in Japan they provide 200%, whether its a 50 or 500 dollar place both.
I went to a $50 ryokan in Kyoto since I had extra time after my Japanese summer school program and it was amazing! I ended up having a conversation with a Korean woman in the onsen who's learning English
Awesome video, i'm glad you enjoyed your stay at both Ryokans. There are many options in the Hakone area and prices vary from Ryokan to Ryokan. We stayed at the Kinokuniya Ryokan which is pretty much mid-tier at about $ 150 - 200,- per night (per person, Ryokans charge per person instead of per room). Pretty much all of them include Onsen (private and/or public), Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Ours had both Japanese style breakfast and Western breakfast so we got to choose.
@@Reformatt Well, we passed over it but we didn't actually go to the lookout point. We were in Hakone in October 2015 and the Owakudani area was closed because of seismic activity. At least we got so see it from the suspended ropeway carriage.
Great informative video, thank you! going to study abroad for a month in kyoto and not a lot of money, do you have any personal recommendations? thank you!~
if you don't have converter or forgot, you can get extension cord from any convenience store and have the third prong of your usa plug stick out, it'll work.
Ohh but you know, I got the 500 usd experience for 60 usd in Gunma, there is this big hotel in front kusatsu, which has everything you showed, but they have season sales. I guess I got one sale, because it was so good!
First guest house probably has no dinner and breakfast. A ryokan usually includes dinner and breakfast in its rate. Second ryokan must be the price for 2 people with dinner and breakfast. The ryokan looks old and the dinner looks ok. They should charge $150 to $200 range. I assume that you didn't spend $500 but $500 had a good impact to get attention. You could stay much nicer place (room and dinner) if you spend $500. I still think that this is a good video.
I spent $500, it was high-season, everything was already booked, often an issue in Hakone. Yes, it was for 2 people, since it was the minimum booking price for that specific day. My advice, book way ahead. Plus, I wanted a rooftop outdoor onsen.
@@Reformatt were the two girls in the bath at the end, with you or did you meet them there? Was that at the $500 one, I'm looking for onsen/bath that you can go guys and girls together because I wanted to take a girl.
I'm sure someone has said this (and it this is great video, love your energy!) but no slippers (or shoes of any kind) on tatami mats! Eek! It hurts them :,(
Do you stay in Tokyo now? I live in Tokyo now! If you come to Asakusa or Tokyo Skytree, I will introduce✌︎ 日本の良いところがたくさん紹介されていてとっても楽しく動画を見ることができました!まだ日本にいますか?
If the 500 dollars each person, if with wife or girl friend does that mean 2 sukiyaki or hotpot. The table might too small with all the heap of cooking mayerials and food.

That was very interesting. Thank you for posting.
Surprisingly $50 is not that bad. But I still recommend fancy ryokan when you visit Hakone. Great video and well explained!
Wow! Thank you Asagi 😊 I totally concur, nothing beats a fancy ryokan experience.
Do you have a recommendation?
Keep the vids comin man, love it.
Thanks Ryan! Getting closer to Osaka every week haha!! 😉😉

@@SephiMasamune I see, yeah hakone weather and seismic activity is always super unpredictable sadly
Thank you for mentioning this mid-tier and pp information!
We love a travel king
It might sound crazy but I think I prefer the 50$ one ^^ But maybe because I'm just a student haha
Btw, when I'm going to visit Japan at some point, I'll make sure to check your website for all the POI
@@pokemonfreaky100 okidokiiii!! Thanks, yes I will help you out so you will have the best trip to Japan ever!!
Yuudachi's talk??
The surface of the tatami mat is not rice straw. It is the one that the plant named “Igusa “was knit.
Thanks for letting me know 😅
you have a great sense of humour, and great video too. One day I will visit Japan for sure

Yes. Please share the name of the ryokan
You cat stay at much better places than one in the vid with $500 for sure. I’m from Japan btw
Where? I'm planning a trip for next year. Thanks
Well, time to bring out my savings.
That is if you really want to go hardcore on a ryokan. Worth it though 🙂
@6:28 "you come to a Ryokan for a traditional Japanese experience, so no disctractions guys" he says in front of a TV
Hahahaha, with the idea to keep that TV off lol
@@Reformatt cool video, was surprising to see how good the $50 one was. I was surprised to see the TV in the ryokan to be honest.
