Nobody Knows About This Tiny North Carolina Island

- This might be the most charming island on the East Coast!
A lot of people are moving to North Carolina these days. I live here, and I can tell you that it’s simply a fantastic state. Oh we have problems - there’s poverty and crime here just like anywhere else. But it’s an average cost of living, average weather, average politics and just…nice.
Part of the charm of North Carolina is the coast. There really is no coast like it. The water’s warm and there are long stretches of clean white sandy beaches that are really isolated.
In this video, we’re going to do a short tour of a neat little island in southeastern North Carolina. It’s called Pleasure Island and it’s located right off the coast, across a bridge from Wilmington.
The day of the short tour was in early February of 2022. It was a nice day for a drive - the sun was out and it was in the high 50s. While it wasn’t warm, it was certainly a far nicer day than it was in much of the country.
This island wasn’t always an island. Up until 1929, this whole land mass was connected to the mainland. In order to connect the intracoastal waterway to the Cape Fear River and thus, connect the river waterway to the southern US, the Army Corp of Engineers cut a 1.7 mile long stretch of land out of the earth. After that waterway was cut, this became a barrier island. As you can see, the island is about 17 miles long, and features an unbroken strand of sandy beach from end to end. There’s really no place like it.
We’re going to begin here at the end of the island and drive north. We’ll visit Fort Fisher, Kure Beach and Carolina Beach taking the main road one block off the ocean. And by the way if you’re interested in moving down here, email me. I can connect you to awesome real estate agents.
Here’s what it looks like on the end of the island. There’s really nothing down here except a parking lot and a boat ramp. Across the Cape Fear River on the other side is Bald Head Island. It’s really pretty and super remote.
There’s also a ferry down on the south end of the island. You can take your car across the Cape Fear to the community of Southport. Nearby is the North Carolina Aquarium which is a popular place to view and interact with species native to the North Carolina coast.
Just up the road from the Ferry are several areas where you can pull off the road and access the beach. Most of the time, it’s not very crowded at all. Just long stretches of sandy beaches.
On the south end of the island is Fort Fisher, which is a former confederate stronghold.
As you leave Fort Fisher you come to the town of Kure Beach. There are just about 2,000 people in Kure Beach. It’s a very small community with a few restaurants and touristy stuff. There isn’t a grocery store or a school here. A lot of the homes you see on both sides of the road are rental houses or condos. Again, the road we’re on now is one block off the ocean.
The homes on the left don’t have ocean access, but many have ocean views. Those homes are in the $750-$800,000 range, although many go for a million bucks. The homes on the right DO have ocean access and amazing ocean views and many are at least a million bucks each.
But overall, Kure Beach is a really neat place. It’s very quiet and clean.
Now at this point, we’re still heading north and we’re now in the town of Carolina Beach. It’s the biggest town on Pleasure Island. There’s about 5,000 full time residents in Carolina Beach, and again, lots of second homes and vacation rentals.
Carolina Beach is the main destination point for tourists on this island. This is where you’ll find a bunch of restaurants and bars and the traditional boardwalk scene with an arcade, candy, rides, and shops. Carolina Beach has one of this state’s few beach boardwalks in the region.
Carolina Beach also has a neat little marina where tour ships and fishing boats park.
Homes in Carolina Beach are far cheaper than in Kure Beach. Many are older and in need of repair. But you drive around this island - it’s hit and miss - some streets in CB have new and modern homes. It just depends on what street you drive on.
Most locals will tell you Carolina Beach is very laid back. It's certainly not fancy like nearby Wrightsville beach with all the snobs and extremely high home prices.

The best video on this topic!
Nicks channel should be 2 MIL by now 😊😊
Not many people can handle, nor like, the truth anymore!
I hate comparing fiction to reality, but I’d swear to GOD himself that this is nothing short of Orwells playbook being set in motion.
No it shouldn’t. bro just pushes his political agenda too much. No one likes that. We wanna see places not hear your views.
@@rickderrick7101 why, do his views make little wicky mad?
@@rickderrick7101- but that is his whole vision for his channel. He wants to talk about how politics are impacting places to live both good and bad. If you follow a channel like that . . . You should not try to change it. It is his vision, not yours. Feel free to create your own channel or watch channels that support your view.
I'm a RUclips addict and I just found his channel with his video about Billings Montana. I like this dude. Great videos.
Such a gorgeous area with the colorful buildings, and the ocean vibe, love it, thank you for this video!
And white girls! Y'all the best baby makers!

Nick Big Thanks for another Brilliant Video So informative it's like I em right there. For Sure you know how to make them Nick You are THE BEST instead of travelling across the USA I just watch you Videos Thanks again 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Nick, you would do well to make a university town tour. There would be several universities would probably pay you to make it. Maybe then make a video comparing the areas around the big city universities. This would give potential investors and students a feel for the community they may want to live in while at university and the potential in the housing market surrounding it for the investors.
Who’s the top sheila on the thumbnail, mate
Carolina beach is great....take the ferry across to South point I did that instead of going around during traffic hour.
BEAUTIFUL! I love the ocean and a warm beach is fabulous, thanks Nick you never disappoint 😊.
Hey Nick, I too, moved from Los Angeles/Orange County to Raleigh, North Carolina 30 years ago. It was the best decision we made for our family. The beaches here are just the same as they were when we moved here. Pristine, clean and beautiful.
Wait until the immigrants from Afghanistan and Mexico comes
Beautiful place Nick! I can see why you love North Carolina. From the beaches to the hills, it looks really nice!
My wife grew up in Carolina Beach and me in Wilmington and we lived on Pleasure Island for years. Wonderful place but more people coming has watered down the Southern charm. Regardless, Mappy must've done the thumbnail, lol.
I'm disappointed - I wanted to meet thumbnail girl.😉 Place still looks beautiful regardless.
Another Brilliant Video From Nick. So informative it's like I em There BIG THANKS NICK 👍👍👍👍👍
Such wonderful scenery! Love is video😊❤.
Hi Nick Nice to see your doing VIDEOS...God be with you guy's 💞
Like most barrier islands off the coast of the southeastern US, this place is beautiful! I once lived in Wilmington, while doing a project along the coast of NC, and we visited many of the barrier islands, including this one. Unfortunately, it was in December thru February and we didn't really get to enjoy the outdoors much, but as anyone can see: The people who get to live there are very fortunate indeed.
Beautiful Nick
Good morning Nick, Thanks for the video, always fully watched, Thanks for showing me around America 🇺🇸🇦🇺😅
I owned in Top Sail ..after is blew away 3 times in hurricanes 🌀 I sold. 😢
Now those places look nice. Thank you Nick! Very good to know! 😊😊😊😊😊
Very smooth and peaceful video.Luky folks living a nice life.
I came to Carolina Beach in 1996, which was 27 years ago, from Charlotte, NC. My favorite spot is Sunset Beach, where I rented a house for a few days. My kids absolutely loved Sunset Beach too. Thanks for sharing wonderful video .
Good job Nick, as usual!
I love all of your videos. Thank you.
Another great & informative video! Btw Nick, I do believe I would recognize your voice anywhere. It’s truly unique and pretty awesome. Thank you for all your hard work. I know a lot of research goes into making your videos. Just wanted to let you know you are appreciated! 🌴 Thanks!😎
I live in Florida trust me you can say goodbye to charming!
It's fantastic that your putting a positive spin on your reporting..
Agree, like it too. Back in the day I served in the MC down or over there. Really like the beaches in both North and South Carolina. Glad you covered this area. The humidity can be a bit rough but that's the South 😎
NIck - thank you for this video! Great to see some great little areas in NC. Making plans to go to a beach further north - 22nd time going every year with good friends!
Love this video😊❤.
My Dad moved to the NC shore in '88.
It was always a treat to visit.
I been here many times, Wilmington NC, has some really nice beaches and communities.
Another Gem Nick
There is just something special about those Carolina islands!
Durham nc checking in !!!
Would love to see a short tour of Manteo/Roanoke Island!
Nick is the greatest American to ever live!!! Thanks for being you Nick!!!
It looks good !!!
Oh my God, the theme from Card Sharks. Childhood memories were stirred when I heard that song.
Gr8 video. Love that area. It's little known
I've been to Fort Fisher and Carolina Beach Park. What underrated gems in NC!
About a month or 6 weeks ago, Kure Beach was on my screensaver at work (Bing photos) I thought it was somewhere overseas. Never once heard of it and now you're talking about. I'm in GA, y'all ain't far. Will have to visit🤩
This was good Nick thanks! I noticed she quoted 2021 real estate prices and is much higher now.! I live nearby and dont recommend coming down here during peak summer!
Nick's the best!
I did some kayaking on the west side of Carolina Beach. A little breezy and very clean waterway.
Carolina beach gets jam-packed with college kids in the summer, I vacationed many times in the wonderful outer banks.
Oh great, now people know about it. Heckin’ Nick.
I live a bit north of Wilmington and i've always loved the beaches in this part of the state, which is probably why tons of people are flooding into wilmington and the surrounding areas. I can't blame them
Please tell me you're visiting South Carolina next! I've lived here for my whole life and it's such an awesome state. Would love to see more South Carolina videos! I'm in Columbia.
He did alot of South Carolina videos. He went to Beaufort and did a full video on that
@@NewHaven203 Hmm, how did I miss that? I'll definitely check it out. I'd love to see more SC videos too, I love my state!
No. People will move here.
@@Christian-vq8rd Well... good point.
@@Christian-vq8rd😂😂😂
Been following you for years, had no idea you moved to NC! Best wishes from Manteo sir.
I was just there last fall Aaron!
I was raised on the coast on the VA. N. Car. Line and we used to explore the coast all the way down past north Carolina every weekend! I sure miss it! Love living in kentucky but sure miss the water!
Spend a lot of time in Wilmington. Split time between Wrightsville and CB-Ft Fisher. Ft Fisher great for taking the 4x4 out on the beach but it’s gets pretty cramped on the weekends. CB cleaned up quite a bit over the years but still glimpses of its old self. Cigarettes butts everywhere and old drunk-burned out beach bums types and dive bars. Gets really empty there in the off season.
nick you bring good content. I wish all Americans were like you.
No way that would be intense!
Jessica is so awesome! I could definitely see myself living there! I have thought about the Carolina’s. I live in an RV so I’m looking for good spots! ❤
Ok Nick son of John.
You always bring back good memories of the past for Steve son of Syver.
I thank you for everything.
Of course I need to give you a story about North Carolina beaches. You knew this would happen;)
1974, before I proposed to my future wife we were on this beach and a cloudburst occurred.
We remained in total embrace laughing throughout.
Love ya brother!
And it is said that Virginia is for lovers, well we went a few miles down south.
Being positive about your report is connecting us all on the idea that America is a blessed land occupied by God fearing great people.. who love their way of life.. kudos.
My grandparents want my to move to NC. I'd go to the coast here but I'm thinking with this video, word is out
I've stayed at Top Sail Beach and Oak Island. This reminds me of that.
Nick’s channel is the best on RUclips. Well this Pete Pardo’s Sea of Tranquility, Almost Human and Kurt Kaz are the best.
How often do hurricanes come thru and wipe the place out?
Often.
at the beginning nick drove past my old house across from the church, now i live next street over in a small cottage built in 1935. it has oak floors and knotty pine walls, pretty cool house. at 11:46 probably the most expensive house on the island, it is all marble and hurricane proof glass, sits facing the beach in kure.
Love the thumbnail. 😅🤣
Thumbnail got me good
I'm in Johnson City Tennessee, I've lived here my entire life my 3 sons are moved out & my husband and I are empty nesters looking for a big change
Beautiful town
Asbury Park, NJ is not too shabby.
@@manfredmann2766 no one leaves the south to go up north bro lol
I live in North Carolina. Some of the beaches are beautiful.
It used to be nice to go there in the fall and surf fish but now they charge for parking everywhere. The place is getting really crowded and they have even closed the park at Snow's Cut. Used to be nice to go there but like everywhere else it's just another hell hole with nothing but high-cost parking areas.
Love the Card Sharks theme for this video!
Good for you and your happiness
Nick, I enjoy your videos, thank you! You are invited to tour the Brooklyn Arts neighborhood of Wilmington, NC. Please stop into Bottega for a glass of wine, view some art and tellem momma sent you.
Deal!
I have a place here too. Don't move there please. Thank you 😂 traffic is unbearable now.
Cool 😎👍👍👍
I used to date this girl, and her family had a summer house in Oak Island, and i remember coming down a few times and really liked it. Theres a ton to do on the Carolina coast.
You dated the girl in the thumbnail?
Nick, your video on Siesta Key inspired this year's family vacation. Had the time of our lives. This one makes me wanna plan a trip too! Love your channel bud, thanks for what you do!
Yay!! Glad to help!
I just camped at the state park for a week and gad a blast. Been vacationing there for 20 years and even moved to Wilmington because i love the are so much!
I like it In Wilmington a lot
Keep safe
I moved from Durham NC last year to Conyers Ga and I like it never knew nice homes are cheaper than Durham
Been there a couple-few years ago. Stayed in Cure Beach. We've lived in Winston-Salam for the past 17 years. Wife and I moved from Billings, Montana. NC's a very nice place to live. :)
I have a video on Billings coming up soon! Stay tuned!
Dude, can you please do a video on FRYING PAN TOWER?!
I think you gotta link-up with Richard the owner but I’m sure he would give you an incredible tour and experience out there.
I know!!!
I just realized you have 863k subscribers!!!!!! Wow!!! Keep up the good work....😅
Great videos bro. I live in Wilmington. There's a blunt with your name on it anytime you wanna swing through. :)
Ok email me
U found us. Growing up u could sleep in the middle of the road and not wake till sunrise. It has a very wild history and there's not many locals that have been born and raised for generations left. Great place to grow up.
I lived in Greensboro North Carolina back in late 90's
Hey Nick, Did you hop over to do Oak Island? Quite the place - 2nd of 7 places on the Coastal Eastern US with a direct southern exposure to the Atlantic. Caswell Bch, Yaupon Bch (don't blink) and the fabulous 14-mile Long Beach. Check it out Nick!
LOL, been awhile...
miss sidekick
I lived there for like 9 years, near Raleigh. Anyways, wen to beach like 3x, mountains maybe 4-5x, because work. I stayed at Kure Beach once, checked out the fort and the aquarium. It was cool back in the late 90s.
Whats the difference between n. And s. Carolina? Short tours are cool Nick. Yay!
Nick has solid thumbnail game.
I grew up on the Marine base and loved going to Surf City.
👋👋 Hello Nick, I agree with you Dude, Great footage 🎥🎬🎞️🎞️ of Carolina , I've lived in both states , Wonderful southern hospitality ♥️🇺🇸👍‼️ David Staudohar USMC USN SS USCG ret ‼️ American Patriot 🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸‼️
Visited because of the thumbnail, and enjoyed the video thereafter.
NC beaches are way underrated ❤
Let’s leave it that way 😂
I don’t want to run from home every time a storm hits? Help me Nick.😮
The North Carolina coast is beautiful! From Duck, NC down to Pleasure Island is so charming. During my Navy days stationed in Hampton Roads I would always go to the Outer Banks because Virginia’s beaches were lame
I live in Norfolk and I agree.
what makes them lame compared to NC beaches? I live in Wilmington by the way.
It is too hot in South Carolina in the Summer. Let's move the island to Nova Scotia. 😃😃😃😃
Cute looking to get out of Florida
How come? Just curious as so many are going there.
@@prague7706 That's why. Way too many people moving to Florida now. Many areas that used to be nice are becoming overcrowded and crazy expensive. I'm looking to move from Florida too.
as a North Carolinian who grew up in Camden, NJ i must say it is much better and nicer here! And the beaches are amazing, my favorite is Emerald, Isle
All Condos and apartments? Lol White sandy beaches, I was in The Navy, stationed in Mayport, FLA. those beaches remind me of tropical storms and hurricanes lol, no thanks I will dodge tornadoes here in Illinois.
My sentiment exactly 💯
Nick, im curious what city you live in.
I love north Carolina
As much as cool as NC is, maybe you could do a video on the other beaches in South Carolina.
Moved to Queen City NC, going back to FL. North Carolina sucks esp Charlotte Ghetto goons, nasty attitudes and no offense the gangs they are horrible plus the drug dealing. Plus the gvnr is a moron for NC.
@@SSNESShe’s done a couple of good things but like most politicians, he doesn’t sway from the party politics.
No better place than North Carolina, especially the Triangle!
Just Curious - do you EVER Stop at a "STOP Sign?" Not to mention the Red Light.
Looks nice, crazy expensive though...
I always flirted with idea of moving to Outer Banks and getting a Charter fishing job?
“With all the snobs” 😂
Oak Island used to be a quiet little place until the internet.
