The PERFECT South Carolina Beach Town: Pawleys Island
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- The southern tip of South Carolina's Grand Strand is technically at Winyah Bay. Several miles north of Winyah Bay is a place called Pawley’s Island. it’s a beautiful island that sits at the southern tip of all the crazy development centered around Myrtle Beach. Go southwest of here and you won’t see any development on the coast until you get to the Charleston area which is about 62 miles south west as the crow flies. Pawley’s Island is in Georgetown County in an area known as the Waccamaw Neck, which is a long peninsula between the Waccamaw River and the Grand Strand. It’s all apart of the Myrtle Beach metro area. You wouldn’t know it though when driving through as it’s a much different feel than the larger city to the north. Pawley’s island is about a 40 minute drive from Downtown Myrtle Beach, or about 24 miles.

Pawleys was the go-to place for me when I moved to Georgetown in 2017 to marry my husband. He was born and raised in, and served as a policeman in Georgetown. He brought me to the south end for my first view of the ocean and we came back regularly for sunsets and rises. His brother-in-law built (and in some cases, after hurricanes, re-built) many of the docks on the marsh side. The whole area is beautiful and full of warm, friendly people. The beach re-nourishment that began in late 2019/early 2020 was much needed but left the south end looking drastically different than my pictures of our visits. I have seen dolphins playing just offshore and been privileged to share the beach with a friendly Great Blue Heron there. I caused a few locals to question my sanity when I'd go ankle-deep into the water in 30 degree weather but being a Michigander, it didn't bother me. :) My husband died in 2020 and I've only been able to go back and visit once since; this video brings tears but also wonderful memories, thank you.
I appreciate these travels when I’m not able to. Thank you!
Beautiful area. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤
We had a house on Pawleys Island growing up. Our house was just a small cottage in the center of the island. When I was a kid us 17 didn’t have anything except the Hammock Shop, Marlowe’s grocery store and Lachcotte’s grocery store at the south causeway entrance if I remember correctly. There were a few small restaurants at Murrells Inlet. I remember Ebb n Nell’s breakfast. My grandfather passed away my senior year in high school and the family fought so much over the house we had to sell it outside the family. The pier was public with a big fish house and my dad would take me there and get me an orange soda when I was little. When the pier was sold to a developer it changed the tight knit feel of the area. Everyone knew each other there. I live on a beautiful beach now much further south. It’s much more upscale but Pawleys Island still has magical memories. I’ve been to every Island in the Carribean but Pawleys will always be the real beach. I have been back but would rather remember it as it was 50 years ago.
Nice scenery. Nice to know the differences exist.
i just love coastal towns and beaches, so beautiful!
Agree!
My step-son lives in myrtle Beach area, when we visited him 2yrs ago on memorial day, we drove to pallets Island and murrels inlet.....never again. It's beautiful but dang! The tourists kills the vibe.
always enjoy your videos thanks chris!
Beautiful place. We are thinking about retiring in the grandstrand area. Some place away from the tourists areas like little river or conway
Seems like this would be the perfect spot!
Everything coastal and south of the Garden City pier is $$$$$$$
Pawleys is definitely a tourist spot.
go to Conway please
Thanks!
We definitely dont need anyone else in the area. We dont have the roads for more people.
I've lived here for 40 years and I couldn't agree more.
My Grandmother lived on the Waccamaw River and we traveled every summer to go to PI to visit and vacation (actually we go to Litchfied Beach. Every year I come back I just can’t believe all the development and traffic!
@@Shroom747 it's sad. I moved here in like 2000 as a kid. I can remember when I started driving it taking like 20 minutes to get from pi to myb now its about an hour.

Walking on the beach!
Thank you for the coast view . It helps as I am moving in the area and have not decided on a location ❤
Thank you! Your information will help me to construct an imaginary, fantasy-oriented modern Village between Pawley's Island and Murrells Inlet. Invaluable information to support a place I've been constructing in my mind for years!
❤
I guess you missed the part about the hammocks.
Contribution to the new "spiked" Mountain Dew fund...
Love it, thanks!
I live in next town over Murrells Inlet and PI is a wealthy southern uppity spot with a beach and restaurants and nothing more. If you want energy or interesting people it’s not your spot because it’s super slow
How does anyone say “acrosst”?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Did you went to Lumberton, Fayetteville, Rowland, and even south of the border?
No
Just moved here from San Diego and bought a house. Love the area as it reminds us of SoCal back in the 70’s. There aren’t any freeways coming into the area so this area will probably still grow but grow slowly.
You can’t be serious. Population in Waccamaw Neck has tripled in 10 years!
The tag line says “one of the best kept secrets on the Atlantic coast”… How the hell do you expect it to stay a secret? There is very little parking and we don’t want you here. Stay in Myrtle Beach!
Stop revealing the secret!
Hahaha my bad 😬
RUclips really ruins hot spots
I'm sure that 590 views really made millions of people want to head over to Pawleys Island and trash it.
@@ChrisHarden That's up to 4.4K now. More exposure than you admit
@@totalrobot4.4k is 995,600 less than 1 million. I’m sure that Pawley’s Island will be fine.
Enjoy it while it lasts. The ocean will be reclaiming PI in the not so distant future. Surrounded by water on both sides.
Hhahaha….. sure
Please stop telling people about our hidden slice of paradise. Please tell them how horrible it is, horrible people, horrible food, horrible beaches, horrible traffic, just plain horrible 😂😂 Thanks !
Please noooo more people
Boring
Problem is that it’s in South Carolina. Pass.
and we thank you
