    I had an issue with my N55 blowing codes for timing. I listened to your suggestion and did not suspect vanos solenoids as both would not go at the same time. Turned out it was the coils. Put new ones in and codes are gone. Thank you for this great video!!!!!!!!

    Finally someone on UTube that understands how integrated the BMW system is. Awesome list this is why I like working on the BM it makes you think, one that a lot of people miss is if the car has been played with a lot the wiring harness can have you chasing your tail, I have had a handful of cars that all the problems have been some broken wires because the previous mechanic been rough pulling connectors. Dean love your videos keep them coming.

    Also check the vanos check valves on the side of the engine, they are meant to keep oil in the vanos, but get tired and oil drains away, and the exhaust one gets covered in muck, replaced both, and vanow works brilliantly. cheap from BMW!

    great video bro, I was having a super rough idle as if it was misfiring and it finally threw some camshaft position codes with I seen related to the vanos. I decided to do an oil change and clean the vanos solenoids and what do you know Im missing the plastic tree inside the oil filter. Replaced it from the dealer $80 and shes purring now. Ur a beauty mate

    Any advice on P052B and 2A7C codes. I have rebuilt the engine and from day one I got the 2A7C code. Then I changed the Vanos intake gear, and the second code popped up. Swapped the cam sensors around, got some chea solenoids replacements and still get the 2 codes. Car runs perfect. But on startup I get the slight rev to 1200 RPM and that's when the codes appear especially the P052B which is on OBDII. The other is not yet in OBDII it's in the DME Motor Electronics code. Thanks for any help

    My 325xi gets vanos codes p0015 or p1553 and this is what I observed:
    When the engine gets warm at around 100 degrees, the car will sometimes have rough idle and sometimes engine shuts off.
    No issues when cold or when driving.
    Any idea?

    I've looked every where on youtube, but I cannot find any videos on where to connect the Suppression Strap on the top passenger side of the engine. Is there a chance you can share your knowledge about that. I'm also looking into replacing the Earth strap as well; if you could also share your knowledge about that, would be greatly appreciated!

    Amazing video! Need help with problem. Son drove 2007 e90 low on oil. Car went into limp mode. Changed oil and cleaned vanos solenoids, car still in limp mode and throwing P16A3 and P164C codes.

    My 2010 x5 3.0 xdrive
    Changed both solenoids and still get a code (outlet vanos mechanical) clear code run good only for 10 minutes then throw the same code.
    Any advice? Thank you.

    Dean, I keep getting the exhaust vanos code I checked the solenoid and it was fine but I still replaced it with a known good oem replacement. I still keep getting the code after clearing it . Once cleared it won’t come back immediately but a day or 2 later sometimes 3 days later . I did recently replace valve cover gasket . I disconnected battery during this job and I pushed the ignition several times and allowed it to do a self adjustment. What other possibilities could it be . I’ve checked all ones on this video . Do you need to calibrate valvetronic motor with inpa ? I do not have ista +

    ((0x104208) Intake pipe pressure sensor, plausibility, after-run Pressure implausible) i test it with ista+, the engine ruining smoothly but the yellow check

    i have a 2d5a. im completely new to bmw, there was about 13 faults when i got the car, now im down to 4 one being 2d5a. the car runs normally as far as i know, no rough idle.

    Any advice on an n46 engine I've got a p0012 that keeps coming and going. From a cold start the car runs almost perfect all power is there until about half an hour later I'm losing slot of power and a chain noise starts occurring bmw e87 2004

    need help with the N52 engine, after belt shred it ( with the old owner ) they replaced the belt car crank no start, brought it from them as it was, found the shred belt pieces wind up behind crank pulley, try to start it and it's crank freely but no start, i highly doubt that the shred belt made its way through crankshaft seal through the cam chain and made the chain jump one tooth or two throw off the timing, i drained the oil just too see if there are any shred belt pieces in oil all i see was two small belt pieces. i put Inpa to scanned and see a few following codes: 2A9A,2A98,2A99,P0341,P1554,P1553. took the spark plugs off to see the spark they spark after 360 degree crank or few spin. check the fuel pump with inpa activate i could hear the whirring noise from the fuel pump motor check the fuel pump fuse was fine, i highly doubt that the timing is off because of the shred serpentine belt made its way through crankshaft seal and wind up with timing chain or crankshaft made the chain jump one or two teeth, need help please. thank you.

    Hello there, Love your videos , lots of useful information. I had a few BMW's and I really enjoy the driving experience. I am have having to replace my 2011 328i coupe with manual transmission after it was involved in a rear-end collision. It's very hard to find one with a manual transmission here so I may have to go with a automatic. What is your opinion of the N51 engine? I don't know if they sold that engine in the UK but it was put in cars sold in a few states over here as SULEV model (super low emission vehicles). I know they have quite a few components that are different from the N52 which I prefer. It seems like a lot of them are coming up for sale in states where they weren't originally sold. Do they have more problems than the N52? I do most of my own repairs and know my way around cars. Thanks

      I know N51 engine mate it has three stage manifold to make up for the lost power due to lowering the power band for emission purposes so N51 uses three stage manifold to make up for the lower end power that it’s missing it’s a good engine

    Doc, I bought a beautiful e60 from a guy, who had these codes, changed solenoids and oil etc but didn't help. The problem was in the cap thank god and I changed it but my question is, he drove around without the cage piece ofc, I changed it as soon as I found out, so could that have had an affect on the fuel consumption? As I'm getting 14-15L/100km and it hurts.

    If i have a 2011 328i n51 sulev model that slightly sounds like a diesel after a rev jump from start it throws a generic P052b code inside a zues scanner it comes up as 2A7C

    I'm looking at a used 2007 328xi wagon w/170,000. Owner is selling due to a random misfire and a p0300 code. He's gotten frustrated with it and has replaced spark plugs, intake manifold gasket, valve cover w/CCV valve and crank case hoses.
    He said that headgasket is fine, as well as compression. He's check the ignition coils, and did mention wanting to do a smoke test to check for vacuum leaks, but has not had the time nor opportunity.
    The owner is a BMW motorcycle mechanic and seems very knowledgeable, which has me questioning if I'm simply opening up Pandora's Box?
    It's in beautiful condition in and out. Is it worth taking the risk at $3k?

    Does anyone know what the 2f91 code is, I get a slight shake sometimes when I turned the ignition, power does pull through but I feel the power delivery isn’t smooth like it’s a bit jagged. Anyone got any ideas what that could be? Also can a radiator fan mechanical fault (2eff) trigger any codes for the water pump speed outside tolerance? (2e81)

    Hi I have a 2007 bmw e92 coupe 328i n52 motor I have a problem I have check engine light with code p0365 and p0344 so p0365 is camshaft sensor I alredy change them new but car wouldn’t start had to put old one and it started but still with code p0365 now I change the vanos sensor still same code came up change both camshaft sensor and same code came up so now I have like 4 new camshaft sensors I was told the new ones where defective cuz it wouldn’t star so I got a new pair same thing until I put back the old sensor car starts up but with same code when cold it struggles to maintain it self but won’t hit off when I put it to drive the car sound like it’s a misfire now I turn it off and on and the shaking goes off when I turn on ac sometimes it shut off or it gets worse shakes more like a misfire now I get the scanner and nothing same fucking code p0365 I need help any ideas ????

    I had a question for you do to the hardship and not having a job I can’t afford OEM solenoid Vanos can you recommend a aftermarket part that may be a little cheaper and reliable for now because I know you say always buy original parts I just got this BMW and I am really not wanting to buy aftermarket parts I wanted to run nicely it’s an 08 128I BMW coupe with 117,000 miles thank you BMW doctor...

      Yep they do indeed mate ALL batteries regardless they all have to registered to the car

    I have a 2006 bmw 530i when i get to a stop and about to take off it will cut off and it turns back on fine but trans light will be on and also DTC light on trans wont shift on to 2 or 3 gear until i turn it off then on lights will go away and will shift normal only code is 51B0

    Im getting misfires on cylinder 1,4,5,6.. and p00bc. 2011 528i. Car starts normal then after a minute or so on cold start, it begins to misfire like crazy. I can drive it and it’s not as bad. Once i come down on the rpms i get the drivetrain malfunction. Also on cold start before the issues start i also get that message. Any idea what it could be?

    Ive done compression test, vacuum test, new spark plugs. Swapped coils around. Swapped injectors around, replaced maf sensor. Nothing seems to change

    Oh my god. Man..I have been looking for exactly what this video explains for almost a year now. I have a 2011 328xi that throws a vanos intake code every few days and then disappears and then comes back again. I have had the expensive intake vanos replaced…still same issue. Few things have happened to this car, i got the oil changed at kal tire…and they put on the wrong filter which caused lots of whining for a while. I eventually replaced the filter when I found it crushed but I’m concerned kal tire may have thrown out this oil separator thing you are talking about…few days later I took it to a shop and they just cleared it. Shortly after the oil change, I had an accident where I drove through a car wash door. It was repaired by insurance and the day I picked it up the check engine light came back on. A mechanic suggested it was the cylinders firing rough so I got them all changed as well as the valve cover gasket which was leaking. The light still came back on. After that I changed the intake vanos…still codes…now the mechanic says it might be these little screws that come loose on the cam shaft….$400 repair. The symptoms this case has is right when I start it up, the rpm is unstable fluctuating in low levels. Once I start driving it’s completely fine. PLEASE HELP!!!! I am literally going to go broke trying to find the problem.

      So were you able to rectify your issues with one of the things he mentions in the video? I’ve been without my 2010 535i xDrive for three weeks already with some similar issues, except it started out as 2A98 then somehow turned into 2A99 and haven’t been able to figure it out yet.

      I have the same issue on my bmw, the problem its replace the intake disa valves but the genuine bmw mahle brand if not it will not work

    Hi, appreciate your good work and honest truth.
    I have a bmw 530d 2005, the car runs great, injectors are in good shape, cleaned the inlet manifold, egr, removed swirl flaps. Runs good, lots of power. But the car is throwing a weird error 3FF0 - Air mass meter.
    It makes the Check engine light iluminate. Changed the maf with a brand new one and it still acts the same. Car pulls great, lots of power.
    What can be the culprit ?
    Some air escaping ?
    Appreciate any thoughts. Thank you

      if its mass air flow mate check the pipe that comes off airbag and joins the turbo that could be loose as its common problem it comes away from the turbo under the manifold so. CHECK IT also check your MAP sensor on the manifold itself they become very very loose and weak if you check it will feel like its falling out

    not sure if you still respond but i picked up a n52 engine car, i have those vanos codes and eccentric shaft codes, symptoms is super rough idle, when engine runs hard to open oil filler cap and some whistling noise, i’m familiar with the n54 engine but not much with the n52s oh and also smoke coming from the catalytic converters??? super random but if you could chime in would be greatly appreciated

    Hello, I’ve got a 2011 bmw 328i sedan n52. For 2 years now I’ve been having this long crank issue. Every morning I do a cold start and it’ll start up normal and quick. But if I let it sit for 30 minutes and go to start it again, it’ll have this long start. It starts every single time for the past 5 years I’ve owned it, but it just keeps doing this long start. Please help, thank you.

      12 Tribes of Israel to be honest I’ve never changed it. I always thought it was a sensor, because it usually has a rough idle when it does the long start.

    Which is a better buy, 335d with the m57n or 330d lci e92 n57? In terms of performance, reliability, i wont be working on the car my self so of i am current lot of money will need to be spent in order to make the 335d reliable. Your answer is highly appreciated! I really cant decide!

      Mate if your not working on ANY bmw yourself forget it mate these cars are very very unreliable and take a lot of work constant to keep them running if you want a car that’s reliable buy Mercedes C350 diesel much much better engine and gearbox is SOLID no issues

    i have my n52 for more then a year and im not getting any codes (scan with inpa) the only ones i had were for big DISA which i changed it. but some mornings when i leave the car at idle to long(+10min) it has small misfires i think is just a little shake that you cant really feel but no errors so dono what to check for

    Hi Dean , quick question mate. I've topped up my coolant with BMW stuff but I think I did 60% distilled water and 40% coolant. A silly miscalculation. I don't have any more coolant left to balance. Will the car be ok with that? Levels are perfect. Thanks mate

      Yo Dean, last week.. I got distracted and I forgot to tighten the coolant cap ... Idiot .. all the coolant came out. This is my first BM. Z4 e86 just got it.
      I have since filled it with coolant and went for a drive and soon within 10 mins its out again. Filled it up ... Then within 10 - out again. I've got more coolant and have today filled with more. Since the mistake with the loose cap I have filled the coolant to right level with 3 litres 50/50 in total so far. Im totally unsure what's going on. Is this right?
      There are no leaks ... I've checked a million times. When hot, cold , before drives, after drives. Thanks very much. Mo

    Great videos Dean! I'm having issues with my 2006 530xiT. Rough idle for about 7 or 8 seconds, then settles and is fine. If it sits outside in below freezing temps, it doesnt do the rough idle. Is there a way to check what firmware version its at?

    I got myself a 528i f10 (N52)
    Symptoms: Everytime I crank up my car regardless cold or not , it starts to rough idle after a few seconds and then stop to vibrating after maybe 15 secs. now onces it done its quite stable but feel light vibration.

    I have P1553 fault code, rough idle, cold start problems, seems like higher mpg. Cold start issues and sometimes bad torque or hestitation on low rpm. You got any ideas? N52 530.

    My son has a 2006 325xi with N52. He keeps getting a P0400 code which is engine exhaust gas recirculation. However I have not for a fix for this on any of the BMW forums.

    I have N52, P0012 error code. I installed 2 new cam sensors, 2 new vanos solenoids, new non return solenoids valves, new oil change with new oil cap, and still have the code with bad idle the first 5 seconds when I start the car. Any input?

      30 seconds with throttle pedal all the way down, then at the 30sec mark remove key (shut off ignition) THEN take your foot off the pedal & wait 2 full minutes .

    I have a 91 with the n52 engine
    With the zf6hp19 transmission.
    If i drive around the 40mph
    I have a light hesitation. Very light you can feel it. Only at 40mph
    I already had the service done at ZF company they changed the oil a and new filter. They said there are no codes. They don't know what causes it.
    Do you know what causes it

      I erased the codes but they never came back.
      Its only around at 40mph

      @@gekkemocrogekkemocro mate its your solenoids they do not need to throw a code they are FAILED you need to replace them I believe there $450 for both from dealer go get new ones and you will see the difference no more loss of power

    If u dnt change your o2 sensors what happens next is your water pump will go out after that Oil filter housing leak the. Valve cover leak then finally oil in the sparks plugs

    Yo dean I need help!!! Car has long crank and will not start 💀😡. New crank sensor, grounds are good, fuel pump keeps cycling will not stop, replaced fuel relay. I have not check fuel pressure yet. Several dash alert with long crank and diagnostic tool will not connect to read engine codes but connect to all other modules???!

    I have E34, 525i, year 1991, 430 000km, M50, since 2000. - - - And E39, 523i, year 1997, 300 000 km, one vanos, M52, since 2013. - - - And E36, 316i, year 1997, 260 000 km, M43, since 2004. - - - No problems at all with the motors.

      Well ever since I bought the E70 2008 all it had was a oil leak at 68,000 miles they replaced the gasket for the valve cover but it began to leak again it turns out the valve cover is leaking then more problems came to the vehicle as The Dynamic Drive malfunction light appeared on the idrive then the powering steering blew up maybe 3 to 4 months after I bought the car so I continued driving the car only with the Dynamic drive message until September because my air bags in the rear started sagging and sometimes the front but they recieved air when the car turns on. What could this issue be I've be everywhere to dealers home mechanic shops and still no answers. I'm in the US.

      @@mauriciofonseca746 its possible the technician that replaced the valve cover cracked the valce cover.. The leaking oil is a fire hazard and the air loss could cause this issue

      Non return valves don’t go faulty in the U.K. I only talk about what common in Uk and oil pump does NOT FAIL neither does the wiring harness
