- Removing and reinstalling a cam syncro on a Ford F150 2000 4.2 v6, this may vary a bit on different cars but the fundamentals are basically the same.
Make sure the car stays in the same location while the syncor is out of the engine.
Comment bellow for questions, I'll do my best in answering them
Thanks for watching !!
this was the best video i found that clearly showed how to do it without cranking the engine. thank you sir.
Glad it helped
I think my squealing noise must be this part failing and will be tackling this soon. This is a helpful video.
this is exactly the info I needed! to fix my 2000 ford f 150, thank you very much!.
Rodrigo Garcia I'm glad it helped you out !
Thanks so much for you info!
Glad it helped
Realy good video. I have to do my 1997 4.2L F150....thanks and take care.
Charles Almond I'm glad I helped you out !
Rolando I'm an idiot and I did not Mark any of these marks that you're talking about when I pulled my old one out. I have a new sensor now that doesn't have any marks on it either way. How can I put back in the sensor if there is no marks? Also I have rotated the crank pulley a few times trying to get it to line up.
Did you ever figure this out? I did the same thing and need helo
Ismael you have to put the #1 cylinder in the engine to top dead center and then put the sensor in. Check out a video on how to do it to make sure but I'm pretty sure that's all I did
Thank you 🙂
Hey I'm currently rebuilding a 3.8 Mustang engine and I live in Germany so support here is very hard to get. Do I understand it correctly, to install it on a freshly rebuild engine. I only have to make sure that the marks on gears, and shafts line up and lock the little ring inside of the sensor at the notch in the wall around it and just find the right angle to fit it in so the hole for the bolt lines up with the one in the block or is there something else to it?
@@98RudolphXmas on a fresh build you set the engine and tdc and point the synchronizer towards cylinder 1 and the sensor only goes on one way
@@rolandbenko Okay so the ring synchronizer underneath the sensor that spins is facing towards the first cylinder?
@@98RudolphXmas correct 👍
would that apply for a 1997 ford explorer 5.0? nice marking job there!
Did you find out if it applies? I have the same vehicle and issue
@@jaydee5393 yes
I recommend that you replace the whole synchronizer because it is only a few bucks more with the sensor installed, the bearing wears out on it and in turn makes the shaft eat at the magnet!
awesome way to mark this thanks!! how do you get to a 2006 ford free star synchro?
Buck Lee it's exactly the same procedure except your engine is sideways, and most of those have the syncro on the transmission side by the intake manifold
Hello i have a 2000 mustang and has a little sqeaky noise when i turn it on i think the belt, the ac pulley or the camshaft, how do you diagnose a broken camshaft synchro or a broken ac pulley
LinkPlays Gaming I'd start with basic checks, make sure the belt is in good shape and the belt tensioner is doing it's job. If all that is good, take the belt off and check all the pulleys make sure they spin freely and not making any grinding sounds. I wouldn't worry about the camshaft syncro, if a camshaft syncro is bad it would be a constant squeal or you would have no oil pressure because of the dial pin shearing
So I pulled mine out and that long metal piece at the end didn’t come with it? Any help
Get some long needle nose pliers and pull it out, has to come out to be able to instal a new one
and in what position the crankshaft pulley is marking
Moises Salgado the crankshaft pulley needs to be aligned with the dial pin, it only goes on one way
Hola buenos diaz alguien que me pueda explicar como sincronisar el sensor de arbol de lebas de motor 3.8 winstar porfabor y grasias
1 bought a 1997 e150 van with 4.2 v6 its missing the cam shaft how do i start this to install a new one if there is no old one?
missing cam sensor and synchro i mean not cam shaft
Put the engine at top dead center and you'll have to get the alignment tool or just wing it and align it to cylinder #1 kinda like a distributor, if it's off a tooth it won't run right but you can play with it till its in the right angle
ruclips.net/video/Do6GHnau040/видео.html
does it sound like it's thrown a rod if it bad
They make a chirping sound like a bad pulley bearing and if the sensor is damaged it will misfire and stall out.
this method is without putting it on tdc, correct?
Yes, no need to put it tdc this way
@@rolandbenko would it be easier to take the sensor off and spin the balancer by hand until the installation cap fits. then mark the body of the unit, remove, transfer mark to new unit. then install the new one with the installation cap on? I have a 2000 v6 mustang. no timing marks on the cover and the timing marks on the balancer are barely visible.
@@scottt89 that I’m not sure, the proper way to do it is by putting engine at tdc, a new synchro comes with a locking tool that holds it from spinning when installing it, and then installing the cam sensor
What exactly does that do?
Most importantly it runs the oil pump, but the sensor on top controls spark, like a distributor but non adjustable, the computer adjust timing.
again can I just replace the sensor?
danny Hampton yes it would apply to an explorer of that year, they run on the same cam syncro even though it is a v8 and would be the same process to replace.
@@rolandbenko If you get the code for this etc....doesn't that mean you usually JUST replace top top plastic cap/'sensor' and not the entire geared synchronizer assembly that you did here...?
Barry A. Not necessarily, the main reason the code pops up is because the computer can't read the sensor and in most cases the reason for that is the bearing the synchronizer spins in wears out making it chip away the magnet on the sensor. Putting a new sensor will work till the synchronizer eats away the new magnet and the code pops up again. Plus the sensor by itself is about $10 cheaper than buying the whole synchronizer with the sensor already installed. Hope that makes sense
My sensor is stuck
Brandon H might have to brake it off and replace both the synchronizer and the sensor
this video is misleading he didn't replace it, he reinstalled it. so you would have to transfer the marks to another sensor.
Transfer the marks and your good to go
What happens if you fuck this up? Lol I might have installed it wrong my car won't go past 40 mph
