    Great vid... one tip... the FOM ring and boots are a waste, all you have to do is make one of your companions or a hireling into a cleric....works best with Gale if you don't use him because you can hit him when he is out of spells and he will regen to full spells.... Cast all your buffs (longstrider, aid, Poison resist, FOM, Death ward, bond) and then replace him with whichever party member you dropped to add him. Takes a few minutes after every long rest, but your full party gets buffed without using your offensive spells... and if you have summons, can buff them too.

    2 cleric light domain for the dawn burst ability
    4 paladin for smites
    6 wizard having 6 in wizard will give me a few things.
    Higher level spells and the ability to learn spells.
    3 spells are important to the build.
    Sunbeam, globe of invulnerability, and summon diva.
    Having the sunbeam spell allows you to concentrate on it as opposed to the blood of lathander, allowing you to cast sunbeam in succession.
    Globe of invulnerability explains itself.
    And summon diva because I wont be 11 levels in cleric..
    I'm missing out on a extra attack, but I feel those 3 spells makes up for it.

    Always a good build from Sparty! I had this idea too for Shadowheart after some spoiler-y events, go 5 light cleric, 6 ancients pally, and 1 sorc - you go 8-10-15-8-16-16 on stats and use the STR pot that sets it to 21, you get shield and tempestuous from storm sorc when you need to cast a spell and disengage, you get a fifth level spell slot for upcasting smite or spirit guardians, and with cha at 16 you get +3 saves and good conversation skills (though really she'd be decent at a lot skill-wise). You start pally for heavy armor and first feat you take resilient with the point in con to give you con, wis, and cha saves, and then second feat you take +2 wis. You can forgo the sorc level and grab pally 7 for the half damage on spells, but you lose the 5th and a 4th level spell slot. You can also tweak this to 6 war cleric/5 vengeance pally/1 storm sorc for similar, but more melee offensive minded. War cleric gives you some very useful low level spells (shield of faith, spiritual weapon, spirit guardians) for free, and the +10 to hit on your swing or someone else's, 2x per short rest, for that hit you absolutely need to have. Note that sometimes the bonus cleric attack is wonky with your extra attacks, but blowing your bonus action on something else will generally help (potion, jump, etc). Gear-wise you get the adamantine splint and shield, which gives reeling when your hit for 3 turns, and reeling for 2 turns if they miss. This is not QUITE as strong as the radiant orb chest in the underdark, imo, because you can cause that and its an aoe, but against a single target big bad its great.
    Side note on the STR pot: at the start, once you reach the druid grove, auntie will sell 3x 21 str elixirs, AND after every long rest this will refresh. You can stock up on extras of these and walk out of A1 with 15+, especially because you don't really need them until you start putting Shadowheart in melee. And that's before you start getting materials to manufacture these with the halfling hireling you can spec as transmutation/medicine check passer to make a bunch more to last the game. This does eat the elixir slot but you can satisfy the MAD requirements this way and I think is the best use for a tanky character to add some damage when able.

  • @jaykaymadeit
    @jaykaymadeit 6 месяцев назад

    Completely unrelated but I want as may people to know as possible. If you want long rest benefits without long resting, then respec. Respec with Withers (pick same class, attributes etc) will give you all your spell slots back and all your health back and refresh all traders items and won't progress story.
    This will obviously only work for the character that has respecced.

  • @RCunderscore
    @RCunderscore 5 месяцев назад

    I used this build for a "good side" shadowheart build. I ended up doing a bunch of testing and figured that the infernal rapier, that you can get from wyll's story if you go down the route of being a good guy, scales with the highest spellcasting modifier. So I ended up going 8 stregnth, 12 dex, 14 con, 12 int, 16 wisdom, 14 charisma. The charisma still gives me +2 on all saves with aura of protection, but then I was able to scale my healing spells and my melee damage off of wisdom by using ASI from there. She was a crazy support character and definitely one of my favorite act 3 builds on higher difficulties.

    • @RCunderscore
      @RCunderscore 5 месяцев назад

      it also just happens that all of my favorite classes are the charisma classes (sorcerer, paladin, warlock, bard) and so I wanted this one to be less charisma focused and I wanted it to still feel true to Shadowheart as a cleric. A+ build fr.

  • @jtirri8842
    @jtirri8842 7 месяцев назад +3

    There's a weird mechanic around your default "spellcasting ability" that might be a handicap when running this build. You probably want to change the levelling order because you are going to get stuck with your low Wisdom score setting the save DCs for all the effects from your gear (instead of Charisma, which you would want.)
    Whenever you use magic items, scrolls, or powers not tied to a class (like illithid powers, or Arabella's Shadow Entangle, etc.) the game chooses the spellcasting ability from the "last new" class added to your character.
    So, when you level in the order of Paladin --> Cleric, or Paladin --> Cleric --> Paladin, the "last new" class is Cleric, and Wisdom is the the "default" SA. You should start with at least one level of Cleric, or alternatively, flip your WIS and CHA scores.

    • @italianspartacus
      @italianspartacus  7 месяцев назад +4

      WELL SHIT! That's super gamey, but I really like that - I thought it was the LAST class, but I thought that class-specific spells were bound to the class SA, that's really fucking cool man. Thank you! I'll adjust some future builds with that in mind!

    • @jtirri8842
      @jtirri8842 7 месяцев назад

      @@italianspartacus Sorry, to be clear: You were right about the Class SA part. All of your spells and powers that come from a class do use the SA from that respective class. Paladin spells use CHA, and Cleric spells use WIS, as you'd expect... It's the spells and powers that do *not* come from any class, like all your gear effects, that have to use the "last new class" SA. The game does need a way to pick one SA from all your classes for these things - it is just not obvious at first how it chooses.

      @@christinehede7578 Agree. Don't know why they decided on the method they chose. Guessing here, but I think that they must be triggering the update to a character's default "spellcasting ability" field when we choose the "Add a class" option, but not every other time we level up.

  • @DavionAngeles
    @DavionAngeles 7 месяцев назад +2

    Nice build, I have struggled a lot with this combination. Cleric and Paladin seem like a match made in heaven in terms of RP, but in truth, they kinda step on each other's toes. They share similar spells on their respective spell lists, but one casts with Wisdom and the other casts with Charisma. Unless you're going Nature Cleric for Shillelagh, you're going to be spread thin between STR, CON, WIS, and CHA. The truth of the matter is that both classes would really like to have more levels in themselves, rather than pairing with one another. If I were in the mindset of fully optimizing a Cleric/Paladin, I'd probably go 1 War Cleric / 11 Paladin for War Priest attacks + Improved Divine Smite.
    But there is nothing wrong with playing the game with a focus on roleplay. I do agree with the 7/5 split
    Again this build is definitely a RP win! Spirit Guardians at Cleric 5 is good, Cleric spell list is good in general, Channel Divinity adds a new dimension to the build, and taking 7 Paladin gives you an aura.
    You could go 7 Cleric / 5 Paladin for Extra Attack and more cleric spellcasting, but that loses Aura of Protection. Ironically Aura of Hate and Spirit Guardians pair well together.
    Outside of RP my most significant con is on the side of game mechanics there is not a lot of synergy between the 2 classes. It is a very MAD (Multiple Attribute/Ability Dependent) build. I'd personally focus on STR and CHA, with WIS 3rd. If you went with 7 Cleric / 5 Paladin, swap the priority on CHA and WIS.
    You want to dump Dex (put into WIS) since you can wear Heavy Armor but then you going last very oftendo not want to act last. Could get Alert but that costs you a feat. Taking DEX mean you WIS is low. Lower WIS than pure Cleric means preparing fewer Cleric spells and Cleric spell save DC will be lower.

      There's reasons to do it and reasons not to do it.
      For example
      Knowledge can get you bonuses on skills. If you really want to do some skills it can let you have them.
      Life can get disciple of life. If you intend to use healing spells its good.
      Light cleric can get you warding flare. Makes you harder to hit.
      Nature domain - really doesn't do anything for you. You are better off multiclassing druid
      Tempest can get wrath of the storm. Can do damage back when enemies attack you.
      War cleric can get you war priest for more attacks.😢

    if you are going that deep into cleric for spirit guardians, 10 levels into any bard will get you secrets and let you pick it up at 12th level. Pretty tasty capstone for playing a paladin bard. If you are playing paladin swords bard you can actually stack level five slot smite with a flourish and get 10d8 extra damage! Then what you do is spec as a dex paladin flourish with bows aswell. If you ever wanted to feel like an op fighter/mage/thief from second edition. This is the path for you.

    Great build and I agree, Paladin may be the most powerful and diverse class. I do have a challenge for you though, and maybe Paladin is a good start class. I know you need to get Withers for this to work, so the goal is to get him ASAP. Once you do, change your party to 1 single class. So a party of 4 Paladins with different builds to round out the party. I think maybe a limit of a minimum of 8 levels in the single class before (if) you multiclass and do a play-through like this. I like the idea of trying this for all classes.

    I think getting cleric 5 so late at level 10 is a mistake when spirit guardians is most impactful in Act 2, plus you miss a lot of cleric RP options in Act 1 if you don't take your first level of cleric until after 5 levels of Paladin.

  • @TheGlikman

    I started a dark urge campaign with oathbreker+warlock but this video gave me an idea with my oathbraker, if i use war domain cleric+animated dead ill get that kinda deathkight vibe that is good at summoning a tiny bit and a monster at melee. thing is what do i need to consider when i spent my points when it comes to wisdom. do i need to invest into it? or just do like a 12 and ill be good to go?
    and on top of that spirit guardian with the necro damge is even more thematic.
    please let me know if this could be a new take on DK or should i stick to original warlock+paladin

    • @blackhat4206
      @blackhat4206 7 месяцев назад

      If you aren’t going to use attack roll/saving throw spells from cleric like guiding bolt, the 12 wisdom is enough. You just won’t be able to slot many cleric buff spells until you get your cleric level up a bit. If you want to melee and use paladin spells I’d take charisma to 16 or 17 at the start and put the rest into CON and STR while dumping INT entirely and deal with having lower DEX around 10-14 depending on whether I wanted heavy or medium armor.
      Warlock gets the stacked extra attack and Hunger of Hadar, so you’d probably do a bit more damage reliably with the stacked extra attacks without worrying about War Priest Charges, but both can be good. Spirit Guardians and other saving throw spells probably won’t hit very hard unless you swap Charisma for higher Wisdom, but paladin typically wants to conserve spell slots for smite.

      Going early rather than later can really dictate the flow of combat, but if you know you’re about to enter a large fight, I’d throw Sanctuary on the character who’s moving last so they don’t get beat down before having the chance to act. Unless they have another reliable means to avoid damage/being targeted in the first round. Some items/armors also give bonuses to initiative.

    I got to disagree regarding the "It won't deal the best damage" take on this. If you're going down the Life Domain path of cleric and spec enough into it to unlock Spirit Guardians, then also use Blood Of Lathander as a weapon, you will indeed deal the most damage overall, although your single target dmg might be sub par.
    I respecced Shadowkitty into Life Domain and pure Cleric and she just rips through endgame encounters at a rate that neither Rogue-Barb Karlach nor Fighter-Barb Tav can compete with. Karlach and Tav are still the ones that are taking out the high helath HVTs but by the time Tav and Karlach have taken out 2 or 3 HVTs, Shadowkitty has taken out 10 of the adds *g*

    • @italianspartacus
      @italianspartacus  7 месяцев назад +3

      I think I misspoke - there are specific smites that are like that, NOT DIvine Smite - the Paladin specific Smite ability.
      BUT Searing Smite, for example, does persistent damage every turn AFTER you do the Smite.
      Branding Smite brands them so that they can't go invisible as long as you have the concentration up.
      Does that help?! :)
