Remembering how this song was initially released when it was still uncomfortable for the gay to be a lonesome soul in small neighbourhoods, yet the lyrics can equally be akin to anyone who is in the situation of being an ‘outsider’ in a community, whatever their persuasion. A true warrior of his time, Jimmy, and this tribute fits like a glove ! 🙏🏼💯👌🏼🔥🔥🔥🌹

It’s taken me many many years to really appreciate that song, the lyrics and the incredible voice of Jimmy Summerville but as a cover Dido did the original proud; just brilliant. ❤

I like the mellow quality in her voice. This version is terrific and really compliments the original by Bronski Beat.. Dido is some singer.
It is a great version. But I don't think compliment or complement is logical diction to describe a cover song. It is a marvelous addition, and rendition, though.
It's as if she's become the female Jimmy Somerville here.
Can't think of many artists who could perform such an iconic song without trashing it...But Dido manages to pull it off...
The original is pretty near untouchable, but she absolutely smashed that.
Lovely but she didn't live it like Jimmy and that's what makes his version real. Dido is amazing tho.

Dido is absolutely ethereal, her voice always sends me goosebumps. One of the largest diamonds in the crown of British music - the best in the world in my opinion.

She has a great voice, but this song only has 4 chords repeated over and over, it's not very complex. I'm sure there are many singers who could do a good version of this song.

Oh my, Dido’s got one of the most beautiful voices on this planet.
It's a shame her inhaling is so audible. You wouldn't hear that with a classically trained singer, unless they deliberately used it to add emotion to a piece that benefitted from it. Too many people seem to think it's unavoidable but you won't hear an opera singer sucking in a lung full.
A great song and a terrific cover. Music and lyrics can make the difference in your life between love and agony.

One of. My favourite songs
It came out the year I lost allu family I was 14. Its difficult for people to believe that a 14 year old boy can slip through the government security net. So I packed my bag an hitched out of Cornwall to London... I did things I'm not proud of to servive. Aged 19 with no drug habit one hot summer day I hitched down to Brighton an never left I fell in love an had a wonderful 28 years together. We moved back to Cornwall 6 years ago and last year cancer came knocking an took him.. Now alone again an almost back fr the town I left. I'm 52 now an I feel like iv one last adventure in me. I miss Brighton. An I really miss Johnny. So every time I here this song it take me back. We had so much laughter in our life's
