Been a huge skaterXL player since it came out as beta. Always heard trash about Session by skaterXL player i’ve watched like 5 of your video today and .. im switching to Session right now!
Yeah it sucks that the SXL community constantly shit on Session cause they didn’t personally like it as much as Skater XL. Just because someone doesn’t like something as much doesn’t mean it’s trash. Anyways, hope you enjoy the game :)
Session imho is way better in every way over Skater XL. It might have a learning curve but I prefer games with challenge that’s not just easy. Absolutely loving this game and even moreso since the latest update. Best Skateboard game on the market currently
Bro, I had a really hard time getting use to the manual catch settings, but it gives you a feeling of real skate progression, loving this game so far, great video JL!

Fun fact: you Can Dolphin flip in session. Right now it only works with auto catch turned on (it used to work with manual catch but it wasn’t quite ready so they disabled it for manual temporally)
This is one of the best tutorials ive seen on these new skate games, good work bro. I had learned some new shit i didnt even know about an ive been playin this game for a while
Amazing tutorial bro, I've just realized how complex these controls have become; a few months ago, when I started playing it, I thought it was difficult but now for new players the learning curve will be a little bit harder... Still worth every single minute learning it, it's impressive how one gets familiar to the controls and you can feel them like an extension of yourself and eventually most of the inputs for basic and medium tricks are almost like reflex to do! This is why the original controls are better than the legacy. Thanks for all your amazing videos, have been following you since a few months, wishing to play with your character in session, JL. Peace.
The triggers to steer has been my biggest hurtle when it comes to getting used to this game but yo they have done a wonderful job with how creative and stylish you can be. All the little details and settings help so much. Thanks for making this video. It has shed some light on things I was curious about and things I hasn't even yet thought of. Cheers.
I am JUST in time, was trying to find music from the game and came across a brand new video. Stick to session you’re one of the only consistent content creators for it.
I second this. It frustrates me that most RUclipsrs focus so heavily on Skater XL. Not meaning to start a discussion on which is the best skate game, but personally, I prefer Session and I'd like more content around it.
JL Nightmare I personally enjoy session more because it has that OG skate aesthetic and for a from-the-ground-up game from the physics to the animation, it is phenomenal, especially knowing how small the team is. I really hope this game gets the love it deserves and Xbox sales should accelerate the process. Can’t wait to sesh on Wednesday, played trial so many times I’ve got my controls perfect but this tutorial really helps, the polejam tip was one I didn’t know haha.
Oh, an updated controls guide! AND IT'S ALMOST 50MIN LONG! As a non-skater, I sure need this. I've been practicing a few tricks based on the trick list available in-game, but this is very nice for reference. Thanks a bunch! Putting this on my playlist. Looking forward to having you in the game!
If you play on legacy controls you are robbing yourself of the full experience. Although not at first, I prefer the triggers now to control direction. It's amazing how far they have gotten with this and it's still in Pre Alpha, makes you wonder what 1.0 will be like. I'm really not getting all the hate Session is getting. I am stacking clips like crazy just in Chattam Towers alone. Although some things take time to get smoothly, I have not failed to make any line or trick that I have wanted in this game. It's not skate, you gotta work for it. I would have gladly played 60, but for 20 we are getting a heck of a game already. Support both games, we are already seeing that EA is churning out another Skate game, they ignored the demand for years and only after how far Session and XL have came and the hype around both games. I am almost certain it will fall very short of what these two games will have to offer. If Session is not up to your standards for being at the stage in development it's in (especially with how small the team is) you aren't living in reality. Thanks JL for the great tutorial, this is a wealth of information to help anyone new to the game, you definitely answered several questions for me.
@@sean_69 but will it be? At this point theres no need to call Skate 4 anything other than the typical EA cash grab. Fans begged for another game for almost a decade only to fall on deaf ears. Not saying that skate 2 and 3 were bad, but with each game came a feeling of something missing, it didnt feel pure like the first game. The added features were nice, but the maps were pretty disappointing. Create a park was the only thing that kept Skate 3 alive in my personal opinion. I dont think the passion will be there like it is with XL and Session, theres no need for EA to reimagine the skate series and make it better than Session or Skater XL. I hope I'm wrong, but I imagine Skate 4 will be another mediocre map with a few new features. 1:50 they still didn't add this animation in version 1.0 lmao... Also they should mocap a run off bail. Nobody flies toward the pavement shoulders first if they hit a pebble or the curb itself...
I hope they tighten the responsivness when turning on Xbox, because it’s kinda late. Other than that, it’s awesome! Oh and pushing, to me it has to be 3 pushes to go faster and 7 to get to full speed because it seemed slow to me.

Yeah it was something I had forgot to mention in this old video hahaha but glad people are figuring it out. Can’t wait to remake this video with all the updated stuff in Session
Ok this gives way too much control for a non skater like myself. How do I know how to catch things properly front foot or back foot? I know skaters know, how does a non skater learn how to make it look as realistic as possible?
Through either research: just watching skate videos and seeing how real skaters catch certain tricks. OR just catch how ever you think looks best. IRL I used to catch Tre Flips with my backfoot... not always, but majority of the time when it was off something.. Tre Flips are you be caught with the front foot. So really It’s all about individual style. Do the tricks the way you want to :)
Generally you catch with the foot that doesn't put the flip in the board. For heelflips and kickflips you influence the board with the front foot so you catch with the back. But the tricks where it also spins on the other axis like a 360 flip or a shove it you influence with the back foot so you catch with the front.
For any future non-skater readers: if the board just does a flip (kickflip, heelflip) catch it with your back foot. If the board does a variation + a flip (varial flips, 360 flips, shuvs, anything where the board does a 180 length-wise, etc.) catch it with your front foot. Just think of it like this: Whatever foot did the least work, catch it with that
i need help. I have a pc and only have a keyboard , when i try running session on the bottom when i wanna press continue it says you need to press A on a controller but don’t have one
This game requires a controller to play. The whole game is based on using the analog sticks to control your feet. It does say that you need a controller for this game on the steam page :p However… if you REALLY want to play this game with a keyboard and mouse… I have a tutorial that shows you how.. however, it’s very awkward to play this with keyboard and you don’t have sensitivity for turning, rotations, flip and scoop speed.. etc. ruclips.net/video/efjgCQemMBs/видео.html
if you dont actually skate irl or dont have skate knowledge session/sxl probably wont be very fun for u, if u buy it on steam and end up not enjoying it u can always refund it, so test it out if ur wanting to!
Can’t wait until skater xl comes to Xbox next month. I’m ready for the learning curve from skate. Played a little bit of session. But ready to learn XL. Yes I skate irl so it shouldn’t be too hard to learn
@@codskatercodskater played both on pc, session I think is better for skaters w/ more trick variety. plus currently skater xl without mods is just really not all that enjoyable and I dunno how that'll work for xbox
I really don't get it. When I play Session, it just doesn't look like this. Feet clipping through board, board clipping through ground, etc. How does an older version look better than a newer version...? This looks super realistic while mine just looks like a buggy mess. Like that bug at 11:50 is pretty much just every other landing for me.
Thank you for this video. The new controls seem hard and confusing AF. As a long time Skate player. Ill probably use the legacy controls. Whos with me? This game looks amazing. It reminds visually of the original Skate. But all new. Very exciting. Cant wait to buy and play this tonight.
Give the Session controls a chance, it seems confusing at first only cause I explained everything in detail. Start with an easy setting then work your way up. You have a lot more freedom with the session controls than the Legacy ones
A little feature I also noticed: if you double tap 'Y' to get back on your board the character will go into switch stance :)

I DIED laughing when i saw that dude do a whole 360 with his legs LMAO
great video you deserve more subscribers
what a sick video
@@saskscott26 Thanks for this! It makes sense.
For any future non-skater readers: if the board just does a flip (kickflip, heelflip) catch it with your back foot. If the board does a variation + a flip (varial flips, 360 flips, shuvs, anything where the board does a 180 length-wise, etc.) catch it with your front foot. Just think of it like this: Whatever foot did the least work, catch it with that
So helpful!Got this game a week ago and wasn’t having a good go at it.Now I’m on the right path.Subscribed!Keep it up!
Super helpful. Thank you
Super useful video, nice one mate.
If you have the board in your hands and you double tap Y you'll get on the board switch (I don't know if it works on goofy stance)
i knew there was something i forgot to mention in the video! damn it lmao
i really want to know how to pass the manual tutorial in this game because I feel like I'm just stuck.
This video should help you pass the first part of the missions ruclips.net/video/LFtwVNFwhTI/видео.html
i need help. I have a pc and only have a keyboard , when i try running session on the bottom when i wanna press continue it says you need to press A on a controller but don’t have one
This game requires a controller to play. The whole game is based on using the analog sticks to control your feet. It does say that you need a controller for this game on the steam page :p
However… if you REALLY want to play this game with a keyboard and mouse… I have a tutorial that shows you how.. however, it’s very awkward to play this with keyboard and you don’t have sensitivity for turning, rotations, flip and scoop speed.. etc. ruclips.net/video/efjgCQemMBs/видео.html
@@JLNightmare Thank you!
Thanks for a great tutorial.
You’re welcome :)
Awesome tutorial.
if you dont actually skate irl or dont have skate knowledge session/sxl probably wont be very fun for u, if u buy it on steam and end up not enjoying it u can always refund it, so test it out if ur wanting to!
T-minus 2 days until I get my hands on this. Yay me!
just wow! thanks mate that amazing
Do you have automatic catch on?
Thank you for this video. The new controls seem hard and confusing AF. As a long time Skate player. Ill probably use the legacy controls. Whos with me? This game looks amazing. It reminds visually of the original Skate. But all new. Very exciting. Cant wait to buy and play this tonight.
Give the Session controls a chance, it seems confusing at first only cause I explained everything in detail. Start with an easy setting then work your way up. You have a lot more freedom with the session controls than the Legacy ones
@@JLNightmare I def will. I am really hoping there is a tutorial. To introduce us to the new controls.. is there? I cant find first time gameplay.
This video is thorough!!
