It’s interesting that many Khmers viewed or know of Khmer history only during the time of Angkor. Khmers, Mon, Kuys and other Austroasiatic speaking peoples have been in Southeast Asia likely since they arrived there approximately 60,000 years ago. It takes time for a people to form societies, traditions and customs and then be able to build city states, kingdoms and then an empire.

There are Surin’s Suy/Kuy individuals who watch Khmer related videos and somehow think that the video is about them. They seem to have this identity issue of being Suys and Thais, yet would claim to be the Khmers that built the Khmer Empire. The indentity crisis often exhibits itself in dislike/hatred of Khmers in Srok Khmer.
Interestingly, Khmers, Mons, Bunoung, and Kuys are closely related. I think it’s important for Khmers to learn about our cousins and to understand their thoughts. Clearly they have an interest in Khmer history and culture or else they would not try to lay claim to it.
I think many people, Khmers included, would be interested if they would make videos about themselves and their history.

The invasions of the Thais from southern China into the Khmer Empire is the single most destructive force that ever happened to the Khmer people! The second would be the invasions of the Vietnamese. So much of Thai culture is borrowed from the Khmers (Food, martial arts, dance, music, writing, arts, sculptures, architecture, etc) were taken from the Khmers, but sadly are being misidentified as being “Thai” simply because the Thais named them after themselves instead of give credit to their original creators - the Khmers. The Thais have taken so much from the Khmer culture you could say they have taken over the Khmers’ identity! That is how much the Khmers have influenced the Thais, but not too many people know about it because the Thais simply called it their own and even bragged to the world how the Khmers have stolen their culture when the reality is actually the opposite!
