This one was a big one, quite literally! Ben had told me of this mountain a few times over the years, and we had always planned to go and make a video of it. For a few reasons though, mainly Covid, I hadn't yet managed to do it myself.
Well, it was worth the wait!
Aiguille de la Grande Sassière, standing at 3751m high, is regarded by many to be the highest "rideable" peak in all of Europe. I'm not going to argue that. It's also absolutely terrifying at the top, and no camera is ever going to do the exposure justice on this one.Supporters of the channel

My stomach was in my mouth. Speechless mate. I’m sure you’ll remember this day for the rest of your life.
The view alone would kill me 😵
What an experience 👍
I've been watching for years and this has to be one of the most incredible, jaw-droppingly impressive video both in terms of content, editing and videography! Never heard you quite so buzzing :p It's really the ride of a lifetime up there - stunning :)
Just Wow! One of those watershed rides where you break through to the next level, could tell you were a different rider by the time you got back to that car park, beautifully captured in your usual style!
Andrew that was insane Jaw dropping terrain! What a video! Very proud of you dude your fearless approach is inspiring. I could not do the amazing bike journeys you do they are terrifying to me! But you excel and it's praiseworthy! Well done mate! What an acheivement!🙏👏
Thanks so much Roger 😊 I can assure you however, I was terrified!
FFS that was incredible, what a day out. I flinched a few times on the super steep scary bits. A day you will never forget, days out on Scottish munros will feel tame now. Well done and thanks for sharing.
That was my thought afterwards. My usual rides should feel a little tamer by comparison now👍
One of the best half hour's watch out there.
Some proper butt puckering moments indeed, and your capacity to comment between exclamations with your heart in your mouth deserves mega props.
Amazing scenery. Amazing trails. Amazing skills, bravery and video to boot.
Jeez, I'm off for a lie doon, after that!
Haha, cheers Alistair, much appreciated. There was a good bit more swearing in the commentary for this one😬
@@McTrailRider Re swearing, I'm not surprised in the slightest.....but this French trip has been so radical, with everything moving up the scale, in terms of size and lengths of trails, features, exposures' and more.
I won't deny, this is a side of my next visit to Scotland that I'm looking forward too.
Any roads, keep up the fabulous work.
mate that was insane, awesome, incredible,....big skills Andrew and crew, breathtaking ride!
Cheers dude
Wow - that looked wild, ultra steep trails at the top combined with loose rock, well done! Those tight ridges about 20 minutes in - Urgh! 😳🤣 amazing stuff Andy, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, and could see the challenge 👍
One of your best yet Andrew. No room for error on that one!
Thanks Kevin
Great evening to release the vlog, Halloween!! That was a real treat with loads of tricks.....
Can I come out from behind the settee now?
Fantastic Andrew! 🤙
😂 didn’t really consider the timing.
O.M.G... I realised where you actually were 5 mins from the end.. mental. much grats.
Ha, cheers
Absolutely epic. Was trying to watch your riding then was drawn to the scenery and vice versa.. Wow 😍
That was one of the most terrifying biking videos I've ever seen. I salute your nerves of steel. You're obviously not scared of heights 🤣
I’m not scared of heights, but I am scared of dying 😆
The colours really pop on this video, well done.
Thanks Steve
Crazy. I was nervous just wathcing the video. Stunning but scary.
Awesome as usual. But the drone footage from these Alps videos has been so next level. Keep on living the dream.
Thanks Andy
Holy shit Andrew ,....that was awesome to watch ! Thank you very much . The drone shots are beyond spectacular , showing the background , the near death experiences , and the skill you guys have ! Sheesh ......
Thanks dude, glad you liked it 👍
@@McTrailRider Damn .. the exposure was scary And incredibly beautiful
Hats off to you Andrew that was one gnarly trail and yous rode it well, what a day that must of been and what an amazing place to ride.
Keep up the good work mate 👍
Much appreciated, Chris
E.P.I.C
Been waiting for this one. Great video. Well done dealing with that exposure too. A 'No fall zone' helps to focus the mind!
It was almost easier to do once I was riding down, as I wasn’t focusing purely on the drops.
Dude! That was all kinds of incredible! Take me back now!!! Loved hearing yours and Chris' giggles all the way down. Aside from the height, it's a really fun trail to ride as well. Good times!
100%! The bus that went, went really well 👌
YOU ARE MY HERO MR MCTRAIL !
Damn that was scary!!! Awesome riding!!! Awesome views!!! Thanks!
Stunning but omg hell no. Well done dude. Looks amazing on large TV in 4k.
On the telly is the way to go 👍
Unbelievable! The most epic ride!
What a ride! Thanks for that. Epic!
I enjoyed that extremely much! Thank you,and very well done. Great views.x
Thanks mum
Best content on RUclips, videos just getting better, serious skills merci beaucoup
Thanks Tony 😊
Spectacular, mental, jaw dropping and terrifying all in one. Thanks Andy!
Tried to blend it all in on this one 😜
@@McTrailRider Nutter!
Insane bro, Great job...👍
Absolutely brilliant video.
Amazing scenery and scarey riding. Brave doesn't cover it. Crazy might do🤣. Watched it twice now. Has to be the best mountain bike video I've ever seen. Incredible Andrew!
Thanks very much Rhett. I don’t consider myself brave or crazy, scared however, that I was😜
I don't like pedalling up, but this... this is definitely worth the climb! I would really enjoy that. The descent that comes with it was obviously awesome. And that, combined with the weather... breathtaking. I hope to do something like that, some day. Really jealous of you
What an incredible experience. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for joining
Wow just fing wow, that looked epic & one for the life memory bank 👍👏
Ps my ass cheeks where clenched too😂
Won’t be forgetting it anytime soon
What a ridiculously epic video, you've surpassed yourself with this one. Only one problem, how do you raise the bar from here..!
The bar still has some room to go up 💪
That was absolutely incredible. So much greatness in this. Epic landscape, riding skills and fantastic realisation in the video. Your reactions and commentary are gold. I also love that the video you posted before this ended with a descent down a narrow, muddy trench in a dark forestry plantation. Nice contrast. Your 'best of' showreel (if you chose to do such a thing) would rival the best mtb films.
Gotta keep it varied 👍
wow wow wow, that was mega! What an experience!
Thanks dude
Well well well Mr McT, Becky came into the room from outside asking what I was swearing at, I said take a look at the TV and what you were riding, enough said....Awesome, 😎👏💪
Haha, I can imagine.
Absolutely amazing footage & skills combined! Exhilarating video once again. Many thanks for sharing Andy 🤟
Thanks buddy
Wow, fecking epic. Truly inspiring.
Thanks Michael
Jaw dropping footage and riding 🤟
Cheers mate
What a great video one of your best.
Thanks Nathan
Great stuff Buddy 😜 enjoyed the video great View 👍🚴🚴👌👌
Cheers Taffy
Truly awesome! Well done!
Thanks Vince
Balls of steel.
Building some amazing memories there mate
100% mate 👍
Stunning video, well done mate.
Best views from any mtb video ever!!!!
Can’t have had any brake pads left after that run either
It’s gotta be up there 👍
Absolutely amazing 🤩 riding on another level 🏔🚵🏻♀️
Cheers Adam
Absolutely terrifying!
Very much, so Jamie
That was AWESOME AMAZING INCREDIBLE !!!!!!! What an oppurtunty and privilege to do that ride...you and Chris rode a great descent together so in tune and great entertainment...thanks for sharing ...this is definitely in your top 3 vids....carry on like this and you'll be getting an invite to ride with Alexis Righetti 👍👍
I feel very lucky to be in the position to be part of such an amazing day. Not sure I’m at Alexis’s level though.
Fantastic video!
Been on my list for years, good to see you got a nice day for it. The French accent 😂 Keep at it!
Weather was just about spot on thankfully.
Nope nope nope. Did ypu have any brake pad left after 😅. Epic shots from the top! Congrats 👏
Nice work Big Cahoonas!! 😅
Thanks Gav
Amazing riding and film skills Andrew, bucket list stuff right there, you guys definitely earned a cold one 🍻👊
Believe it or not, we actually done about 2k+ fort descending after this.
@@McTrailRider an amazing day! i take it, the fort descending was a little more flowy 🤔🤞
@@jesmtb fort?
@@McTrailRider fort 👆🏼
Your first reply 😆 assumed you’d ridden down through some ancient forts on the hillside 😆
Amazing views and footage from the drone 👌. I thought i was watching Kilian Bron or Danny Macaskill on that crazy descent 👀, i don't know how you managed to climb the mountain with balls that big 🤣
Killian is the benchmark for tyres kind of rides. The stuff he does is simply incredible!
Your the Scottish Bruce Lee 🤣🤣. Great video, EPIC!!!
The sounds I can make are about all I’ve got in common with Bruce 😂
Ben Nevis =being nervous. Haha great
Soo sick!
Cheers
Did you spend extra for good quality brakes?? As it looked like you really needed them going down that mountain.. Good show.. 👍
I didn’t, but the bike may have required new ones, once I was done 😜
@@McTrailRider 😁
That was Insane bro but awesomeness mate looked a sik time boyz 👏👏👏
Thanks dude
@@McTrailRider thanks to u boys too bro 👊
We did this a few years ago and really hope to do it again one day. It's an amazing decent.
I still think back to this day fondly, what an incredible mountain 😊
Epic🤘👏👍
God damn! 😮
👍
What month did you do this? It looks great!
Holy fuck!!"!!
well done lads
Cheers
wow!
👍
Bugger that !
My thoughts on the way up
Amazing footage you did really well 👍
Crazy mate great video I don’t know how you don’t get arm pump
Just lucky I guess, never really had it.
Wow
Cheers
Fuckin awesome man!
Thanks Brian
When it looks steep on the gopro - you know its steep
Pretty much, but honestly, the steepness was so much worse in real life 🙈
Regards. In the video it ooks like you did ride 100% downwards. Is that true? If not, could you say how much in percent / height meters / switchbacks you had to push the bike? We want to try this next week and i want to prepare mentally. Thanks, Chris
There is probably about 5-10% that cannot be ridden at all. I’d say that there is another 5% that I want comfortable doing.
This really is a proper mountain ride! Please allow for the GoPro effect a bit, as the camera didn’t do it the justice it needs.
@@McTrailRider thanks for the immediate and detailed reply
Are those EWS stickers so hard to remove or is the bike "wearing it" as a badge of honour?😉
It’s the media bike, no one cares 😜
if that was a straight line at the top ya would of sent it .. when the drone turned around about 13mins and ya saw how steep ..mate ya know what am going say … ur fuckin mental ( any one that not scottish this simple means this man is mad man ) well done andy epic vid
😂 Richy, that was a good shot to show at least some of the scale of the place.
10 hours on a bike? Shredded arse meat 😳
10 hours, elapsed for the whole day, five hours moving and only about 10 minutes on the saddle thankfully.
Context.....death. ...DEATH -.- HAHAHAHA oidaa ahahaha ❤
SOoooo... there is a Deviate EMTB prototype... O.M.G.. I need to sell a child in 2023...
Early stages, more of an experiment at the moment.
Fckunig hlel and a Glacier
McMonumentle
The glacier confirmed the height for me.
Technically rideable. Rrright...
Just about 😜
Partly rideable on the way down and hikey bike on the way up wouldn't be described as rideable.
Looks good though.
The down is all that I care about, of which 90% was rideable. Given the height of the mountain, I reckon that’s pretty rideable.
I smell brakes
That’s all I could smell 😜
You tube is a joke. Is there other platforms you could use?
Next time, you ride in front.
Maybe for the bottom bit to avoid the dust.
Wrong mountain !!! go back and do it again please.
What mountain should I have hit?
One word AWESOME!
Cheers Pete
yes lad
Cheers
