- The Alps are the go-to destination for many mountain biking Brits each summer, and I often find myself looking at other peoples Instagrams feeds with envy when they are out there.
Ben Jones had invited me out to join himself and a few others from the Deviate crew on a weeklong trip in the Alps. Ben has guided the Alps for many years before going full time with Deviate and as a result he has a vast knowledge of the Alps in general.
This trip was to include some of the very best trails and routes that he had discovered and his time in the Alps.
Today's video features a trail called Spineology, its location will remain a secret, but I was free to make a video to show you guys what it entails.
As you will see, this trail is incredible, with some of the most unusual terrain I've ever seen. Add to rain so incredible to look at, but so terrifying to ride at the same time.
Again, this was just the first day and this is the Trail we started with! Incredible!

I watched this 4 times now as it’s inspiring to have on the 55” tv and I honestly don’t know how this is not a 1m+ views yet because this is the best video of possibly the most epic “trail” I’ve ever seen.

That brought back some memories Andrew, did this 3 years ago and it's one those few days in the saddle I'll never forget. You did the sigh of relief I did when making it over some of those narrow bridges....bum twitchy. Great riding and some amazing footage.
Spineology is epic - lucky enough to ride it about 8 years ago and it is still up there in the top trails I've ever ridden (even with the huge hike to get into it from the side we did it from). Love that once you are off the ridge and only have exposure on 1 side you feel safe and start to push on then realise that you are still pretty screwed if you go off the side of the hill.
The hike up is no joke for sure. And yes, there’s all different levels of fear from different directions on the way down to 😜

Incredible drone footage up top. That limestone makes some interesting features, I've never seen such high alpine potholes. And the white color stands out against the dark rock of the surrounding ridgelines when you get the bigger vistas from the drone. Really nice footage. Glad nobody had any mishaps -- it's easy to get psyched out by exposure, and when the views are distracting it's doubly easy. Well done by everyone!

I did this ride with ChrisD in 2016 when I had my panther pink, yellow and green, with silver decals Nicolai Helius AM (2015) with Pinion P.12 gearbox...ChrisD was designing the Guide at the time. Your start at the top was covered in snow on our descent (early July)...happy days
Nice! I do miss the guide every now and then. No chance of snow in July this year it was way too hot and dry.
@@McTrailRider I bought one of the last Guide's in Feb2020...just before lockdown. Ben came up to drop it off. He had a few Highlander's with him for a shoot with SingleTracks. I remember asking you about your CaneCreek setup... You seem to run it quite firm. I still have the bike... It's a superb design. Credit to ChrisD 💯🏆💯

We all listened to the Pinkbike review in the van on our way back from the second or third day. It was so cool to hear such great things about the bike, whilst in the company of the very people responsible for creating it.👌
