No disrespect to the tones you get on a regular basis, which are generally great, but this has to be the best tone I’ve heard on your channel yet. I think you just sold me a reverend. Let ‘em know they owe you a commission!
The level of bass is probably the function of the shorter scale length, as a short scale bass will also be thumpier and bassier than a 34" due to the low tension. I think your bass contour is intended to allow you adjust from there, but I don't think different pickups would alter that much. Thanks for your review! This one is very much on my radar.
The neck scale is shorter than on a typical baritone. The trick is that the bridge is a bit further away in the back of the body. This gives you a more standard playability on the neck, but the ability to hold proper string tension for lower tunings. I think I heard it from a Descent RA overview video on Reverend’s RUclips channel etc.
I totally relate to literally not being able to control myself from going crazy when playing live. Back when I used to play shows with the band I had fresh out of high school, I was always the one moving around like a nut on stage. It helped me get past any nerves I had and... Well, it's just fun to lose yourself in your playing. Besides, people are there to see a show. Why not at least give that to them?
I've always wanted to try one of these. They look really cool. Also I agree on the fishman moderns being a good option to swap the pick ups. Overall great video as always!
I’m blown away man! Love your tone the style and the enthusiasm!!! Yeah I’ve got a Squire Tele- tuning is pretty finicky I really had to adjust expectations as far as what I could play and how to play it (crazy long neck!). Definitely didn’t lend itself to rock or metal well (spoiled by my Schecter I suppose) Surf is fun and traditional country simple rifts / licks. Looking at the Purple RA for March 2023. Very much appreciate your review! Love how the music takes you! My son (33) and I (61) are the same way. He’s in a strait ahead originals rock band and it does my heart good to see him literally jump up and down with joy when he’s really getting into a song.
Totally with you on this. Been wanting to get into writing heavier and more doom oriented stuff, and I can’t seem to stop researching this guitar. I absolutely love both of the models. This one, and the dissent W. That one has a Wilkinson tremolo so you can get some spaghetti western desert vibes going. No hum bucker‘s though, but it still sounds absolutely beautiful.
It’s always awesome when you pair well with a guitar! I’m glad you’re stoked on it. And as far as the tuning concerns when going hard, I can’t speak highly enough about Evertune.
I know you don't love the feel of evertune, but it seems like that would be awesome for your live show so you can freak out as much as you want without worrying about tuning stability
I am really starting to like those Railhammer pickups. I played a Reverend Shade Balderose Signature at guitar center and those Railhammer pickups sounded pretty good for a first experience with those pickups.
I recently discovered this baritone model and am really intrigued. For me, I think 26.75 inch scale would work; I think that 27" is perfect. In either case, great review, (btw, Silverburst is the absolute best finish on a guitar). Keep on rockin!.....great skills.
really good looking guitar and I am a big fan of silver burst guitar's. have never owned or played a baritone guitar as I never play anything lower then D tuning and I have a digitec drop tuner that I use these days so I can keep all my guitars in standard tuning and then and just use the digitech pedal when I need to play in Eb or D but still a reall nice axe for sure. also very cool you got a chance to go out to L.A. and play at the whiskey.
I have been really interested in these for a while. Especially since I mostly play in drop A it wouldn’t be much of a challenge for that scale length. And with the shorter scale length I like that it feels a lot more like a normal scale guitar and less like playing a bass lol. I have been considering the D scale Ibanez guitars also with the 26.5 inch scale length. But I don’t know how much of a challenge that would be to get into drop A. If anyone has any experience with the Ibanez RGD’s let me know. Thanks!
@@timbrowner6643 thanks a lot for the help and info. I was looking at the Ibanez RGD61ALET that has the Evertune on it. I’ve also been looking at the Ibanez RGIB21 that is just a straight up baritone.
Awesome. This has been on my wishlist for awhile now. Great to see it being used for metal as the other demos are not really... you know... metal. Reverend guitars are absolutely amazing.
How do you like the Railhammer Chisel pickups? I just got the PRS SE 277 and looking to swap pickups and the Railhammers caught my eye, but it is hard to find information on them, and most RUclips demos aren't very metal. How do they stack up?
Love the tone for sure!!! I think it kinda suits your style a little better. Random question: what BPM are your playing in and does it help when playing low tunings to change up the BPM?
Watched another channel and you can roll that bass contour all the way back and still have plenty. The guitar probably isn't made for drop tuning as low as you go either? I would say the electronics probably aren't suited to tuning below low A? Also, the bass contour is well out of the way and would be very difficult to accidently move. I think you need to play with the bass rolloff more but again, drop G is pretty extreme for the scale length. The action is quite low too. Wonderful neck and build quality. Final set up in the USA, which I bet isn't much other than adjusting after a 30 day boat ride from Korea. Quite the versatile guitar. My only gripes are the body shape is a bit odd and it should have been 24 or more frets. You give up quite a bit of upper range with only 22 (you are essentially losing 5 frets of range at B tuning). 24 frets would have been much better compromise; 27 ideal.
ray! i'm so happy that you finally could pick up THIS reverend. fits you perfectly and sounds killer. i'm playing a double agent W that has the same shape, just different hardfacts and man, reverend really do some great guitars! can't wait for more content featuring that beauty in 2022. have a great new years eve and see you next year
I think the Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient combo is always a good choice, even more so for extended range guitars. Just enough output to get have some stank, but low enough that they retain articulation. And don't get me started on cleans. Get yourself a coil split and you're in versatility....city.
Ray im gonna be honest....you are so wild live that im praying the entire time you don't smack the innocent Bass player with the massive scream in his head knocking him to the floor or worse....lol your awesome brother keep up what your doin man....love it.....drop some Fishmans in there man....i just put some moderns in my solar 1.6 blb and holy sh*t wow.....I own EMG Jim Root Daemonons and the Fishmans blow them away just being honest.
Dude mine sounds like shit. I have tried everything to get this guitar to sound good for metal. Huge fan of reverend have a bunch and this guitar sounds good clean but I can’t get it to sound good distorted
Yeah it’s not my favorite thing in the world. A lot of give for sure but it still does the job. The rest of the strings have “normal” tension if that makes any sense or if that’s even the right word haha
As of give with the string try going up to either a 74-75 should be a bit better and not feel much different. Pickups check out dimarzio titans they work amazing with baritones they give a big mid boost and less bass they clean up nicely even tho you don’t go clean much having that option is awesome as a bass vi player myself for the last few years active pickups make lower tunings mud up so easily. The titans changed everything even have the ability to pick your own color also.
You should just cut the wire of the bass nobs if you don't enjoy that tone. I thought when you demonstrated the bass knob it was fire! It boosted everything imo. I though it gave it more of a brighter tone which may sound crazy cause I enjoy brighter tones .I feel like if the fret board was rose road or Loreal it would be a lot darker of a tone . But I thought the bass was fire. But like I said you could always just go into the controls and cut the wire of that specific pot.
I watched every video I could on this guitar, The thing just sounds like shit, The amps sounded like shit. I was like is there one person, who plays this thing capable of making it sound good? It cant be that bad of a guitar right? Then I saw you had a video on it so I assumed it would now sound good. I was wrong. This thing is junk.

It’s the guitar. Reverend is the best ever
That guitar looks good on you. Rock on! 🤘
Great playing dude! I’ve had my eye on the Descent RA for a while now, seems like such a sweet guitar!

You fricken rock Ray! Cheers buddy! Thanks for all your hard work bro!
I’m definitely one who’s been waiting for this! Sounds awesome!!
Im considering picking one up, but I can't find one to get my hands on and see if a really dig it

Hey thanks so much! Yeah the sound is a bit too sludgy and or doomy for me. Then again I’m using a Mesa which doesn’t really help things haha

I feel like this would be a killer guitar for doom metal

Reverend HQ, is in my Town; have friends there, including the CEO. Awesome guitars, man 🤘😎
Cheers, Chewey!!

100th like!! Boom...killer guitar man..and it looks killer on you as well.
Would an Evertune bridge help?
9:16 railhammers are underrated AF.
This video is a win, mainly because of that short cut to your kitty...but, the chugs were damn good too. Nice guitar Ray!
I know you don't love the feel of evertune, but it seems like that would be awesome for your live show so you can freak out as much as you want without worrying about tuning stability

Seems to keep the bottom end together quite well.
I have a difficult time keeping mine in tune. I love it to death but it’s hard to get the g string to stay in tune. The whole guitar is finicky.
Awesome video, you convinced me to finally snag one for myself. I think the scale length is going to be perfect for Bb standard stuff. Cheers!
I recently discovered this baritone model and am really intrigued. For me, I think 26.75 inch scale would work; I think that 27" is perfect. In either case, great review, (btw, Silverburst is the absolute best finish on a guitar). Keep on rockin!.....great skills.
Ya u need a custom baritone made for u man that’ would be killer .

i have an rgd and honestly they are incredible guitars. i have mine in drop a with .70 on the bottom and the tension is incredible

Have the 2017 coffee burst barry. Love it!

Thanks Ray. Do you have a favorite Big Muff to pair with the Descent? I just got mine and am looking forward to pairing it with a Metal Muff.
Awesome! Keep smiling bro!🔥
I've been eyeing the trem version
I never tried a Reverend but their looks kinda hold me back. But I have weird tastes.
SilverBurst!! Awesome!
I love the shape! It kinda has an offset wolfgang vibe, I dig it. Sounds pretty good too brotha
Great vid dude I just played a Reverend for the first time a few days ago and agree that they have to much bass but they are awesome!
The Bass Contour knob cuts bass.
Hell yes!!!Ray🤘👍
Concrete Dream got a shout out from BILLY BIOHAZARD on the latest NEW YORK HARDCORE CHRONICLES PODCAST
i like that the only 2 people i know who play this are Ray and the dude from Black MIDI. Amusing.
Did you change your pickups from stock single coils? If so, was it tough to do?
No? Why would you think these came stock with single coils. Genuinely confused by your question
@@xanderraymondcharles I didn’t realize there are different descent models. The one I have has different pickups.

Man, that is alot of give on your low G - that would drive me crazy :-D But damn, mean-ass tone. How is the tension on the higher strings?
Yeah it’s not my favorite thing in the world. A lot of give for sure but it still does the job. The rest of the strings have “normal” tension if that makes any sense or if that’s even the right word haha
Didn’t know Eddie did that with his guitars. I saw Zakk do it and I ripped that from him

The bass contour knob is a bass cut knob only. It doesnt add anything, it only reduces bass.
Sounds sick af man! 🤟🏼
I never knew this only had 26,5 inch scale length.
its 26 3/4"
Dude. I love watching you play. You're alway IN IT!!!
Hey thanks so much!
I always prefer a Les Paul but I rarely go below drop D and I sure don't blame anyone for not wanting to jump for 2 hours wearing one on stage.
Get a dimebucker in that baritone axe 🤘
Ooooooh good idea!
Paint Em Black
Gotta love those Revs! My main is a Rev too, stays in tune SO nice... Cheers, Ray!
elephant burst

I don't know if you know this ray but Karina is just mahogany

Are you known for silverburst because you say you’re known for silverburst? Lol
Another silverburst baritone guitar? Psssh. Predictable. 😆
Decent playing, mediocre review, insufferable smugness.
