    Great video Trip. I was just looking at google maps the other day at this location. I've camped at Fort Mcrae when I was a kid a dozen times but I was in a tent. Now that I'm a hammock hanger I couldn't remember if there were any trees to hang from, so I was planning a scouting trip there. Now I don't have to, so thanks for that brother.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      +Jaxx Drinkwater Thanks Jaxx!!! It's a great place to do some yakking for sure. There are several trees around the fort itself that would be great for hanging. I chose to camp away from it in hope to have less bug issues. Hope you have a good trip!

    we called it Ft. McCrae (McRee) Mosquito/sand-spur cove. I've been boat camping tent camping, scalloping, crabing, floundering, diving there for 25-30 years. I just turned 40. I can remember two tug lanes, one eastbound south of the sugar bowl (roberts Island) one west bound north of the island created to deepen the pass etc obtw years ago...

    Coming along with that castnet. There are several ways to throw one and the one you have is about average size. You can go bigger after you master it a little more. Couple of tips. Try to cast only when you see bait. You will wear yourself out quickly casting in dead water. Never cast where you are not sure of the bottom. I've lost more than one net to underwater obstructions. Always cast with the sun in your face, otherwise the net throws a shadow and the bait will be gone when the net hits the water. Good video.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      +robertintexas Yea, I was thinking a larger one would be nice in the future. Great tips! I especially can see the one about facing the sun, makes perfect sense! Much appreciated!

    @sailingandsuch Hey Trip I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you have been making! They are great. You actually had inspired me to give kayak camping a shot, and it was a blast! I just got back from a three day float down the Brazos river out in east Texas. I went with one of my oldest friends and it was both of our first time on the river and it went great, the scenery is amazing and the camping spots are pretty good as well. You have converted the both of us from backpacking. Thank you again!

    Just getting to this one Trip. Glad I've had the time to catch up on your videos. This was a fun time and fun to watch. Enjoyed that you filmed the prep for bad weather. Gives some of us that are just starting a chance to learn before we get into that situation.
    Mullet looked good. Views of nature were awesome. That bird you gave the mullet to is your friend for life..lol. Thanks for filming the details.
    Got a good laugh when you were talking about plans for the little mullet and then changed to "I'll let it go"..lol. Take care man. Look forward to seeing the next adventure.

    Tip for the the live fish man when you hook them go up through the bottom lip and out the top lip closing the mouth completely the fish can still get oxygen forced thru his gills when you real
    Him I’m keeping it alive rather that dragging backwards against his gills killing him bait will last longer . Also predators use the element surprise to catch food if the fish is always returning to you facing you you have a better chance of catching a predatory fish also.

    Its a steel leader you clip a weight on the bottom clasp and the hook on the upper. Its steel so the fish dont bite through the line. I'm about to hit the subscribe button myself I'm low on funds so I'm getting a inflatable kayak to see how well i am at it, your videos are great and I am inspired so mission accomplished! keep up the good work.

    I'm starting to work thru these,"Epic" adventures Trip! Love them! I used to be stationed in Ft Rucker Alabama back in the early 90's so I recognize a lot of the area there. Miss those white sandy beaches and greenish aqua colored gulf waters. Thanks for the inspiration! Atb Sean

      SailingandSuch I've been near where you went in the video, but always on the beach across from where you camped. There are usually big redfish where you went, as well as some nice blue crabs.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      Awesome! You know, I was disappointed not to see many blue crabs. They are one of my favorite things to cook over the fire, I really look forward to catching them. Something must have been off... Oh well, I'll just have to go back!

    • @jc3944
      @jc3944 8 лет назад

      +SailingandSuch you should, this time of year you can't escape the blue crabs. if you bring a piece of uncooked chicken, and put it on your line, the crabs will grab on to it and won't let go. this way is a lot easier than catching them in a net.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      I'll have to try that method. I've been told about it and even brought chicken necks with me once but they were so easy to catch with the net I never tried lol I need to....

    The reason your reel was tough to turn is because it's probably got sand and salt in it: I've ruined several reels before I realized you have to really rinse them down with a hose pipe after each trip

    Another great adventure as usual. I heard my shout out, dude, get those Croc's, I think you will like them. Good tossing on the net as well. Next time, cut those mullet into chunks with a weight and throw them out on the bottom and wait. Something will come along that wants meat. Even a small shark would be tasty.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      It was certainly a fun one once the thought of storms came into being. Ordered the crocs! Can't wait to give them a shot. Ok, sounds like a plan with the mullet, I'll go for that. Shark meat would be incredible! Glad you were able to watch and thanks for the tips.
