Great tip! I didn’t want to sacrifice one of my power packs so I took a chance with my Radio Shack DC utility power supply which puts out 14V. Worked great 👍
There's no need to reverse the polarity. The main thing is to heat the filaments up until they glow gently to burn the crud off their surface. A battery does work too.
Any tips when all 4 are dim? One display was super bright and all 8’s, I touched the edge connector checking for lose wire. Something popped (can’t find a fuse) and now all four show scores but are super dim.
Great tip. Another tip to add about these displays. The 1MFD 100v orange capacitor should be replaced as standard practice especially when using a Pascal board as when these caps go a bit out of range due to age, they can cause HV fuse to blow.
This is a great help - Thanks. WEhen i used a 9V 1.5A adapter, the grid wires didnt get as red as i thought they would. The displays are brighter but not by a lot - Can you leave the DC voltage on longer?
Great video. Love watching all your videos! Do you know if this works for the System 80B 20 digit displays? Top one is fine but the bottom one is dim on my Excalibur.
TNT Amusements Inc let me tell ya, when I can get a pinball machine it'll be from you friend. A Todd's Bargain Bin one that I can refinish and rebuild would be perfect. Right now it's pinball (or another hobby) or spouse. Hmmm.
Hi man, that was awesome ! I have troubles with my Gottlieb Genie: While playing, the points are counted on counter1, then with the same ball it changes with no reason to count on counter 2, counter 3, counter4. If the switch "ball back at home" would be false tripped, it would count the bonus points, but it doesnt. It looks like a software bug.
there were no software updates to Genie...it only had that one Rom all these years...I suppose the ROM could have gone bad, but usually it wont work at all. I would put it into a switch test and bang on playfield to see if another switch comes up. Also...very important...you can get odd switch readings if the COIN SWITCH BLADES in the coin door get entagled with the fishhook wire that blocks the coins whe game is turned off. Check those two switches to make sure they are not touching anything. We cut that fish hook wire off completely on every game we sell as its been n othing but trouble when game lands in a home.
Hey Todd. I've become addicted to these videos. I've watched at least 70 so far (I jumped around a bit at first to get tips on my favorite machines)... at this point, I'm just working my way backwards. And let me tell you, I *had* to leave a comment here on this video. Imagine the angry guy pressing buttons all fastlike (well, I'm on my phone)... Go back and look what you did towards the end... you opened the door from the right side of the machine WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD!! I caught this, because I'd just watched video #975, and at 19:13, you instruct people to be careful with the internal wires because you have to HELP THEM in order to not mess things up!! YOU DID NOT SHOW THAT KIND OF CARE IN THIS VIDEO!! SHAME!! SHAME!! SHAME!! Ok, enough of the finger-wagging (I couldn't help myself!!). Keep up the great work. I hope to one day buy a machine from your shop. You should be proud of the excellent job you all do on these precious machines. Take care!!

We always install a new power supply...to insure the logic board is getting the correct voltages....but this sound like the logic board is bad...and they are very difficult to repair.

wouldn't say a child could do it unless it's with a 9 volt battery. hows the tongue. a child would probably see what happens if they touch the pins to their leg ouch. Safety first :) think nowadays when I replace outlets in the house knowing the clodhoppers that wire houses. I just turn the house power off. negats a nice jolt for idiotic wiring.

Ingenious! you and Frank are hilarious! Glad I found ya!

bigclivedotcom Frank surprised me with that, but a second ten second "soaking" doesn;t hurt!
“Of course...
a 👶🏻 child could do it....
a 👶🏻 child could do it!” Haha 😆
An Iconic remark by Dr McCoy!
@@tntamusements yes from Bones!
I performed this tip exactly as you described and it worked great on my Haunted House and Volcano! The displays look much better now! Thanks so much!
You're welcome!

Great idea! The capacitors just get older every year anyway!! Thanks for sharing!
Genius!!! Is there something similar you can do for the HV Bally/Williams displays?
sadly, no....the Gottlieb displays are a different nature!
This is a great help - Thanks. WEhen i used a 9V 1.5A adapter, the grid wires didnt get as red as i thought they would. The displays are brighter but not by a lot - Can you leave the DC voltage on longer?
Yes...fifteen extra seconds

Thank you Gary....we never tried that, to be honest!

Hi Gary I have a same display MA 999 that have dim displays have you try this method and fix it?
What a great tip. Now I need a pinball machine. And room for one.
We got plenty of 'em!

Can this also bee performd on a Gottlieb sys 80B display MA999 and how ?
I am not sure.....I will ask our guy!

@@tntamusements Many thanks you, I'll try this. I also suspect that it could be a bad contact.
Does it work on 16digit alphanumeric displays? Williams?
Midway-Man I very, very highly doubt it...different display and construction.
:( who can help me with that?
Midway-Man I don;t know....those glasses cannot be recharged...you will probably have to buy a new one.
That's an amazing tip! Thanks Todd!

How many amps was that 9v power plug?
