    FYI. The Lefei Sparrow has the exact same functionality, for quite a bit less money!! In fact, there are several similar with basic RTH out there that have been around for some time. The Kopilot just happens to be the latest offering, and at a higher cost than some.

    Thank you for a very informed video. I gained much needed info from this (I expect my unit to arrive this week). I do have one question: @7:30 you mention adjusting the gain. Does this adjustment change the amount of deflection applied to the control surfaces or how fast the control surfaces move when reacting to needed flight changes. Thank you for your help and I hope you are well through the Covid-19 issues.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 года назад +3

      The 'gain' is how hard it tries to correct the un-commanded movement. The more gain, the more aggressive the response etc.

    I have inav in 2 planes, know how to setup it, but fine tuning can take weeks or even months if you don't have time to do many test flights...All videos about Inav setup on RUclips are made by "proffesional" people who can afford lot of time to setup and especially to test fly it.
    OSD is nice, but really necessary only for long range planes where you need to precisely know distances, mah used etc...
    All that is really necessary, battery voltage and timer, is included in simple OSD of many cameras such as Runcam swift, eagle....
    You need to know throttle position for economical flying, not easy to see if you use googles, but i use runcam mic and headphones, so i simply listen to engine and it is enough to fly economically.
    This thing seems to work nice, already ordered it :-)

    Hi,
    I've built the ZOHD Kopilot into the Sonicmodell Binary and everything seems to be working fine. I was curious how long the GPS unit normally takes to connect to the satellites?
    Yesterday I had the GPS search for the first time and it took 15 minutes to connect. This afternoon I tried again and then it took half an hour.
    The GPS is installed in the usual way behind the wing on the platform and has no other electronics nearby.
    What could be the reason why the connection is so bad?
    I use the standard GPS unit that is supplied with the Kopilot.
    Sincerely,
    Casper van Beek

      Please see other responses in the comments. Low channel signal is RTH or Fence (depending on which one you've set) so set your Rx fail-safe to RTH mode or if the cable comes loose then the channel value should also drop initiating an RTH..

    I’m gonna use the Kopilot on a V8FR-II Receiver. This receiver doesn’t have radio-controllable failsafe.
    How do I set failsafe (RTH) with this receiver?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  5 лет назад

      It's covered in the manual for the reciever: Follow the steps below to set failsafe positions for each channel:
      1) Bind the receiver first and turn on both the transmitter and the receiver;
      2) Move the controls to the desired failsafe position for all channels;
      3) Press briefly the F/S button on the receiver (less than 1 second). The GREEN LED of the receiver will flash
      twice, indicating the failsafe position has been set in the receiver.

    2 corrections. Use solid green leds (stabilized) for all setting up not flashing green (RTH/Fence) Exception is use Manual (no greens) for ESC calibration and for mechanically setting control surfaces. The other correction is do the Kopilot direction setting first (it reverses both the direction of the stabilization control AND the stick control) and only then correct any channels on the radio.

    Ummmm, I'm just setting up my second Kopilot - the first is working well in a Bloody Wonder.
    It was all going as planned until something weird happened...
    I've set up the mode switch on the SG switch. Initially, it worked as expected, i.e. RTH was on rearward setting (up arrow), manual was on middle, and stabilized on forward position (down arrow).
    Next thing I knew, manual and stabilized had flipped positions!
    I don't want two different configurations on two kopilots, so I would like to set them the same. I have tried every button I can think of, unplugged and grounded the pins, even moved the function to different switches, but to no avail. It remains stuck in a RTH, stabilized then manual order.
    Interestingly, the kopilot won't do a level calibration on any of the three switch positions...
    I'd be grateful to know if you have any thoughts on this?
    Cheers.

So my guess is that the unit will only work with single servo pin for ailerons so I will need to use a Y cable for ailerons and the flaps will be operated by regular receiver channels just like they are at the moment. I bought a new radio (radiomaster tx16s) so I had to setup my Zohd Dart250 again. This video is super helpful. Thanks.
    Two things:
    -Does it know to automatically switch to return to home if you have a failsafe? Or is there something that would need to be setup? (I've never done anything with failsafe before. All my models say "Warning! Failsafe is not set.")
    -In your video the screen of your taranis shows -60 elevator. Wouldn't that make the RTL fail? Don't you have to use the pots on the Kopilot to reverse channels?
    Thanks man.

    Actually - Alastair Rourke - Thx for the videos . After setting RTH mode on bench
    & with a good GPS LINK the servos have gone into a trembling mode- only small 1-2 mm movement but not an issue in fence mode .? If you turn on fence or RTH on mode switch does this mean the gyro takes over complete control of the throttle - the manual infers this ?
    Also having trouble setting neutral calibration- the manual diagram shows mode 1 & 2 settings to be the same ? is that correct ?

      Basically I’m not getting full throttle on my edf. I ran my standard, full throttle plug in battery wait for beep then zero throttle and reboot. Upon attempting this all I get is a beep beep. No reset.
      If I bypass the zohd and connect esc to receiver, I’m able to reset throttle and it’s back to full, however, when I reconnect esc to zohd it doesnt acknowledge new esc setting. It beeps continuously suggesting zero throttle not engaged.
      Apologies of my explanation is not using correct terminology.

    I'm curious how much mishandling the new stabilizer can take. The old Talon stabilizer (flipped into Launch/Beginner mode) could get you out of some tricky situations but it couldn't save a full-blown spin-stall. Your only chance here was to get it into manual and apply correction; but that required height or 'gunslinger' reflexes.
    As the Kopilot has throttle control I wonder if it has more control in RTH mode?….Anybody fancy trying it ;-)

  • @monicarourke7176

    Have set up the ZOHD with recommended gains & model is flying normally in manual mode - when switched to stabilised mode the model is very slow to initiate a turn as the gyro is immediately countering my aileron input & effectively returning the model to level flight.
    Increasing the gain makes the model overreact in manual mode and only increases the counter leveling effect .
    If the gain is turned right down the ailerons effect is unresponsive in manual mode.
    Solution please - Regards Alastair

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 года назад

      That's not how you set gain.it's how hard the Kopilot works to stabilise the model. In stabilise mode pitch and roll are limited and cant be changed. See the playlist.
