I will always prefer the original Randy Travis version of this song, but I have absolutely NOTHING bad to say about Carry's version either. I would listen to either one sing it any time... The fact that this is a duet does add to the song, but I will always lean toward the original version... Call me sentimental... I do recommend checking out his official video of this song from the '80s... His voice was so pure back then...
While his rasp has matured with age, and his voice is a bit shaky by the time he made this video, but those qualities do add so much character to his singing... Anything he sings is a masterpiece... I read somewhere that he still does a limited touring schedule, even after his stroke several years ago... I hope he continues to share his gift with us all for as long as he is willing and able...

Randy was and is still a treasure. He's got the most amazing voice of all time in my opinion. Unfortunately in 2013 I think it was he suffered a stroke that left him unable to speak and communicate. His amazing wife has stood by him and helped him and he's now able to talk and communicate more. He told someone that his dream was to be able to sing again.

I'm a long time fan of Randy Travis.
It hurt to see him struggle to talk or sing in his later years.
Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 and underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a blood clot. The stroke left him with a rare condition known as apraxia, which impacts ability to speak and communicate effectively.
Have you heard his song DEEPER THAN A HOLLAR? Or on the Other Hand? Watch his music videos so you can hear him in his prime back when he was healthy and his voice was stronger.
When I hear him sing now it's a joyful but bittersweet moment because his voice is not as polished as it used to be.

Randy made this song in 1987. Carrie sang it with him on Idol as her special guest in 2009. He was 22 years older than when he first made it popular. That was a special Grand Ole Opry version of Idol.
I love the way Randy looks at her and smiles while she sings.
This was just the start of her life journey in Country music.
She was awestruck to be singing with him.
Lastly, I hope you have since found out that Randy Travis suffered a massive stroke a few years ago and will never sound the same again!
Enjoy every minute of his songs!
Also- I have never seen Carrie w short hair! I remember being confused by it. It was either a wig or her hair was tucked up.

Beautiful ❤️‍🔥 I would never say I told you so, just open my arms wide because you are the only one, I smile brightly, that's just me 🔥🔥 if I truly loved a girl that wanted back, I would because true love, even when hurt, understands there for the grace of God go I, I could have been the one to fall and when left on the ground by the one that made me fall that I hope the one I realized I truly love will reach out their hand and lift me up and embrace me and say I know, it killed me but you and I are here now and let's start again anew, knowing that our love will grow and get stronger and sweeter because we know now it easy it is to lose this love, sorry guys, I went on a little but it just comes pouring out when something touches my heart so 🙏🙏🙏
