He, almost singlehandedly, saved country music from the rock bottom, in the mid 80s. He started the rebuilding, then guys like Clint Black and Garth Brooks jumped in and enhanced the comeback. You've got a lot of listening to get the whole feel of Randy Travis. He, unfortunately, suffered a bad stroke, and was almost to the point of shutting off the life-support system, when he started to recover. As far as understanding what's going on around him, and understanding other people's speech, he has total grasp of. But, he isn't able to speak very well, so he doesn't speak in public very much. His wife is always by his side, to speak for him. Here is a quick, off-top-of-my-head list of songs:
-Forever and Ever, Amen - 1st hit
    -Deeper Than The Holler
    -Diggin' Up Bones
    -1982
    -A Better Class of Losers
    -Three Wooden Crosses - Grammy
    -No Hands
-If I Didn't Have You - My favorite

Great selection! Randy was at the top of the charts pretty much constantly back then. In those days you couldn't go into a bar or pub anywhere in North America without hearing (and dancing to) "Forever and Ever Amen". He even delved into acting and was pretty good at that as well. Thank you!

Randy Travis is one of my favorite "old country style" artists. This one, "One the Other Hand" and "Digging Up Bones" is the trifecta for me. But "Three Wooden Crosses is in there, too! Thanks for reacting to and enjoying a new artist while giving us blast from the past! His songs always tell a story.

"Forever and Ever, Amen" is my all-time favorite of his---wait 'til you hear how low his voice can go, with this one!
Another really great one of his, is "Three Wooden Crosses"---it's such a great story; you gotta pay attention, though, cuz it's a little tricky!

Absolutely LOVE this man! And this song is one of my favorites of his - he did it as a duet with Carrie Underwood a few years ago that's just as good. You'll be listening to hundreds of suggestions, but honestly, you just can't go wrong with any of his music. Three Wooden Crosses is one of the biggies, and I do encourage you to listen to it, but bring hankies! Forever and Ever, Amen is heart-warming. A Better Class of Losers is funny as hell IMO. With this superstar (and George Strait, Garth Brooks, and Brooks and Dunn), you could close your eyes and throw a dart to pick a song and *never* be disappointed. Great reaction, hun, loving your C&W journey! Oh, almost missed my second favorite -- He Walked on Water -- a tribute to his grandfather. Amazing voice and songwriting, the best of both worlds!

Randy and George Strait SAVED country music from going down the toilet, by bringing back the classic country sound. He is ROYALTY in country music. Such a sweet, gentle man. We were all, and still are, heartbroken over the stroke that took his voice from him

I saw him in concert in Roanoke Va and he was amazing. He can't go wrong with anything he sings but I love Forever and Ever Amen and Three Wooden Crosses. Randy had a stroke and can't sing anymore and it's such a loss to country music. A true country legend 👏.

I love Randy's voice. It's what got me into liking & listening to country music. My husband was on a Med- cruise (Navy), and due home within a months time. I was managing a golf course on base and country music was all they played..I thought it was the most depressing music ever made, until one day Randy Travis song came on the jute box, Forever and Ever, Amen... then the Judds music kinda grabbed me...and so on and so on... I was hooked on country music!! So sad about Randy's stroke, he was one of the best vocalists IMO

My favorite Randy Travis songs are Reasons I Cheat; Promises; Take Another Swing At Me; This is Me; Look Heart, No Hands; Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man; That’s Where I Draw the Line; I Told You So; The Box; He Walked On Water; Three Wooden Crosses; Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart; It’s Just a Matter of Time; On the Other Hand; and Forever and Ever Amen.

Randy Travis is a National Treasure and such a genuinely nice, polite man. He’s had his demons, but haven’t we all?
For his 25th Anniversary CD & TV special he did a song w Don Henley called ‘More Time’. Only a few mths after performing it, he had the debilitating stroke. While it guts me every time, such a beautiful and important song.
And yup… sometimes I chase my husband around the house playing it😉😆
You really should check that one out and then his vocals on Its Just A Matter of Time are RIDICULOUS!!!
    Stay safe & love much💖
    Cheers!!

A massive heart attack ended his career, but he still stays as an awesome favorite and loved by so many.

Randy is a country music legend. He can't sing anymore after his stroke but he is a beautiful soul

Love, love Randy. So many favorites from him but maybe the most moving for me is “Raise Him Up”. I love when I’m surprised by the lyrics in a song.

Randy and Carrie Underwood did a duet of this song and it was amazing.

You have to hear "Forever and ever amen" "Diggin Up Bones" and "Deeper Than the Holler"

I LOVE Forever and Ever Amen and Deeper Than the Holler. Both very romantic. Words every girls wants to hear. He also has a very deep baritone. My old brain just can't think of a song od his that showcases it. Lol Getting old sucks in so many ways.

I used to watch him play with the house band at Country City USA in Charlotte NC before he got famous when I was younger. So good.
