I just can't understand animals
in Hungaroring we also have problems with animals (not with kangoos :DD but foxes, bunnies, cats)
and don't know why :DD I mean
"oh, there are fast, noisy things going there in a hard surface... must run across in front of those things"
Was playing Gran Turismo 6 last night and was driving around the Nurburgring. My mom, who was watching, asked what happens if a deer or an animal jumps out onto the track.
This is the video I showed her.
Don't waste time just skip to 0:40 the guy at the end was classic Aussie :)
Reaction time (from seeing it to hitting it): 13 frames
Chances of reacting in time: zero :(
Not true. He had time to react but obviously wasn't looking for roos on a racetrack and at that speed couldn't have done anything anyway.
At highway speed could have avoided it
Offroad Foz It was also night and really dark when he hit the roo, this camera does'nt show how dark it was.
spiderfightclub it wasn't night lol. It's a 12 hr not 24hr. You can even see the sun has just risen. It's dawn, most dangerous time for roos, also dusk
Offroad Foz you mean dangeroos?
Offroad Foz K
The coolest thing about this is the driver is on here commenting! Its like having a celebrity around! Im glad there was a live stream of this race so I could watch it from Colorado, USA!
Not sure what you can do. There's fencing around as much of the track as they can do, but the private properties can't really be fenced, surely. You can't force the landowners to fence themselves in.
Such bad luck Gilbo, very sad sight to see. Glad you were OK in the end though.
Glad youre ok Gilbo. Would have shaken the shit out of me I reckon.
The kangaroo made a full recovery
Pretty normal driving experience in Australia. Cept the car wasn't totalled.
"How many more of these are we going to see before a driver gets killed?" even if some one is, then what? Put robot mini guns every 30 meters?
Yep, ban roos.
Them roos are always on the piss at the top of the mountain. Bloody Hoons!
Mate the car looks and sounds tuff, they need to do something about Skippy's
they're gonna have to put some mesh fence up around the track I think.
Done that mate had fences ,shoo roo sound devices rangers with rifles the lot ....those bloody roos would escape Alcatraz,,,,
Ross Sko ohhhhhh! rooos right? like the kangaroo, like roo as in kangaroo right?
jack flell yea kangaroo
Lol
Unsure if you are calling for the track and events to be closed or asking the various private rural land owners to now further cowtow by putting up roo fences ?
Seriously the amount of changes to this belter of a track due to safety since the 50's is surely enough....
Once upon a time, men undertook the peak levels of sport knowing the risks, now everyone wants to wrap any semi to dangerous sport in cotton wool.....
I don't have a problem Andrew, I would race here again any day. Maybe restrict the hours of racing is all. Pre dawn is very active for kangaroo's as you would know. Maybe start the race at 7am. I'm sure that would reduce the chances.
Anthony Gilbertson but then you would have a increase number of roo at dusk. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't :(
Agreed Scott, but remember it's daylight savings. The sun doesn't even come close to setting till 8pm.
Anthony Gilbertson Sorry mate I wasn't aware this was you driving.... I am sure you were at some level shaken and after the initial shock plenty of time to reflect on the inherent dangers.... Living in Australia we constantly have issues with roos, I was sideswiped by one, out the back of the Tullamarine Airport at 1am, coming home from a mates place, certainly not at the speed you were travelling, but still in a '92 model Magna at 110kph on the passenger front guard is enough to make you go WTF lol....
Glad to see that you are ok...
I am not up to speed on the entire format of the 12hr race,(due to the fact of such limited mainstream coverage) ie start finish times, but I thought the idea of the GT style of racing was about testing man/machine under all sorts of conditions. Driving through both day/night conditions ?
If this isn't the case for this race then certainly a slightly later start with daylight savings in place makes a bit more sense ;)
Wish you safe and fast racing in the future mate....
All good mate. I'm fine, the car isn't but atleast it can be fixed. Full video will be up from the start of the race soon. Was awesome while it lasted!!
I wonder if he was roo-covered
So sorry to see this happen to a privateer team just 15min in. Glad you're okay.
Just getting into full gallop on Conrod too. I imagine that must have left a bit of a mess behind..
Yellow flag on display at 19.0 .....driver choose to ignore the yellow flag.....officials had he roo covered
The flag isn't raised.
Your dead right mate it was a flaeh of sunlight ..My bad .
Thanks for correcting that comment. I had confirmation from the officials that they had not even seen it on the track.
Video wont load now. Ive already seen it. Trying to show the missus why bathurst is bathurst.
Hi Anthony, please check your youtube inbox for a note regarding media interest. Thanks!
SKIPPY???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHYYYYY
not sure why... im more curious on how the kangaroo would be like... is it still alive or is it dead..because it is not in any picture of this incident or in this video.. T_T im dying of curiousity!!!
I'm sorry to say that it was hit that hard that there was nothing left.
220 km/h at 100% throttle. That roo would be dust!
T_T thanks guys... thats pretty much cleared my thought.. but the moment like everything went black.. is that the kangaroo's blood covered the whole front glass???
It is the hood of the car. It broke and flipped back onto the windscreen.
aaahhh... sorry.. you are right.. my mistake.. :D thanks!!
Something tells me you had a major crash after you hit the roo.
