This was demonstration event at Bathurst. Mercedes used this modified GT3 car. They modified the brakes, added DRS and removed engine restrictions and made some other aero changes too. No ordinary GT3 car can reach 300 km/h like this one
Considering the very similar top speed of Ford Sierra RS Cosworths back in time in Group A (1990 295 km/h) , the cornering speed is much higher nowadays. Much-much higher.
1979: Peter Brock set a lap record of around 2 minutes and 14 seconds driving a Holden Torana A9X during the Hardie-Ferodo 1000 at Mount Panorama. Over 17 seconds faster.
NASCAR races are MUCH shorter than some of the 24hr events that GT3 race in. Their engines are 5.9L and rev to 9,400. Then of course you had the old 3L F1 V10s peaking (in testing) at 21,000rpm.
A different class but good to see the Mercs get this. A 220SE won class B in the 1961 race (at the Island) driven by Jane and Firth but it would be 14 years later before starting at Bathurst.
To most race cars, it’s not even a corner. It’s just a slight bend in the straight. There’s plenty of actual corners on other tracks that are similar speed. 130R for example.
I played Toca race driver 3 recently and drove the Mercedes dtm car just like that flat out on mount panaroma and my time was around 1:58 to 1:59 and that's just a game and I was pushing it hard😂😂
Wow! Not slow in a straight line, my last bike was a ZX14 and that's very comparable, but the corner-speed it can carry! The way it gets up and across and then down the mountain! That's awesome! You're coming out of Reid Pk into Deer Pk and on to McPhillamy and you're over 200 km/h all the way through there! You've got to be pulling 2g of lateral all the way through there to be going that fast! That means sticky tyres and lots of downforce. It looks like a sedan car, but it doesn't drive like one. It drives like a full ground-effect car. Sedan cars do not make between 2 and 3g of lateral at 200 km/h. V8 souper-cars do that, with the big wing thing under the engine, but this is even more striking.
guys the V8 supercar series is working within the boundaries of the officials...they already do 300 kms down conrod straight any more and they would get airborne
They do 280, 285 with a slip stream this year. I was watching the live telemetry during Bathurst qualifying. (And no, cars DONT just get air born when they hit 300 lol! NASACR race over 320kmh)
The lap he admitted he wasn’t even pushing it lol. F1 cars have been simulated as 10s faster again than Button’s lap….but 1 error and the driver is dead! The track does not come close to meeting current FIS Grade 1 F1 safety standards. (Bathurst is only a grade 3)
Sounds great, handles well, driven with great skill. Thanks f posting.
Long live the V8, music to my ears all day long.
same
the amount of downforce this thing produces is absolutely wild. the speed he carries through corners is phenomenal
I agree. Although that being said, I reckon the car could go even faster if it was lighter.

what the???
that guy really took the WHOLE track, the WHOLE gearbox, the WHOLE engine, the WHOLE capability of his sensory organs, insane...
The climb was insane. I was scrare watching it
That is much better footage than the other video from the outside. So fast over the top, holy cow those walls are close. Wicked video
Mental breaking at the bottom of the hill!! from 303 KPH to 134 in just over 2 sec. I was very impressed with that.
300kph @ 1:35,40
134kph @ 1:37,70 (laptime)
That's some braking!
Saw that too, I was first like, he's going to go off at 300 and the suddenly he was at 134! insane breaking.
303 top speed
The trust put into the aero every time the bodywork was hitting the ground is unsettling.
Speed through the corners, and how fast he wipes off the speed… wow!! 290+ down to 120ish at the chase in about 1 second. Holy crap
I know how he feels,I have to do the school run every morning 😂😂
Awesome lap well done by all I first watched the outside lap and they are both equally impressive 🤯
was lucky enough to see that live from the AMG lounge @ bathurst. It was insanely loud compared to the modded/restricted GT3's
I hadn't really appreciated before watching this that these drivers are pretty much 100% throttle the whole time. Makes sense, of course, and gave me a new respect for their bravery and skill. A different breed.
I absolutely enjoyed this.
I love watching the stats, especially the G's. My shifter superkart used to do 2.5 lateral G's. The thing was an absolute monster.
What a frikkin lap. Awesome!👏
Braking at 270kph about 75M on turn2 is absolute and total trust in the car
Yeah the braking at Griffins and then the speed into the cutting is next level!
Genuinely amazing how this record lasted less than a week

Yes Yes Vientos Power Mercedes AMG ♥️💯👍👉🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
That's incredible to watch, truly amazing. Well done 👏
Thanks for this video looks amazing fantastic driving wish I was there
300 kmh flat through the chase that’s crazy I love these AMG Mercs
The lateness of the braking, and the handling of this vehicle is incredible.
Man that 6 speed DCT box is really some bad-a55 tech. Sweet.
The sense of speed was speedy...
I love this circuit❤
Wow amazing car and super skillful driving!
Wow what a lap 😮
There use to be a 300 km speed sign down the Chase in doing 303 km will he get a speeding fine ? Only Asking , Cheers .
That was an awesome lap of Bathurst. Wow
that sound... god!
That engine sounds crisp!..
Just lovely!
I can only do 2.08 on similar car in the sim. Cannot imagine doing that in real life
This GT3 is unrestricted, so it's a lot faster than a regular GT3, in a sim or in real life
What DTM should have been. Bring back class 1
DRS ? On a GT3 ? Since when ?
This was demonstration event at Bathurst. Mercedes used this modified GT3 car. They modified the brakes, added DRS and removed engine restrictions and made some other aero changes too. No ordinary GT3 car can reach 300 km/h like this one
astonishing
Is telemetry just showing when DRS is available or actually in use. Did they fit a special wing just for this lap?
Considering the very similar top speed of Ford Sierra RS Cosworths back in time in Group A (1990 295 km/h) , the cornering speed is much higher nowadays. Much-much higher.
The Ford Sierra cars, now they were something else, they were fun to watch 👍thanks for the reminder
They were hitting around 285kmh, but that was before the kink! Cars today accelerate all the way around with far superior modern brakes.
Incredible lap/
Jules Gounon. Legend 👍
Drs?
Drag reduction system, it reduces aerodynamic drag for a reduction in grip and an increase in acceleration (used on the straights).
A flap on the rear wing not legal for regular gt3s this one is the "extreme" it doesn't race at this spec
Out...LBW.
Those brakes though. Un freaking believable!
They’re still less than half the braking power of F1 cars.
So much full throttle, do these things run traction control?
Why bother with the cost overheads of Gen 3 Supercars when GT3 is internationally recognised?
This category should replace V8 Supercars in an instant GT3 Mustangs and Camaro could benefit vs the European manufacturers big time
Gt3 so great, even Mercedes named one after it
Didn't know they used DRS in GT3 now?
DRS is one of the modifications to this car over the standard GT3
... a specially-prepared Mercedes-AMG GT3 ... description is telling it

Was that quicker than Tom Walkinshaw in 85 with the XJS Jaguar ?
Not even close, it was a 2:21 for Tom
That was so great I can almost forgive Mercedes for that REDICULOUS big badge.
Good graphics, whats your PC hardware?
Was this a non-compliant GT3 that had no BOP and fitted with DRS?

WTF is up with that seating and steering wheel position?
The AMG GT3 lacks the conrod straight top speed of the Nissan GTS-T driven by the Sheriff where he was caught at close to 330 km/h.
That Nissan had more than 2X the power of this GT3 lol!
(And the Nissan guy said they blocked out the telemetry so as to not get in trouble , but were actually recoded at 356 peak!
