Considering the very similar top speed of Ford Sierra RS Cosworths back in time in Group A (1990 295 km/h) , the cornering speed is much higher nowadays. Much-much higher.

They were hitting around 285kmh, but that was before the kink! Cars today accelerate all the way around with far superior modern brakes.
I can only do 2.08 on similar car in the sim. Cannot imagine doing that in real life
This GT3 is unrestricted, so it's a lot faster than a regular GT3, in a sim or in real life
yeah i was thinking the same thing.. i can do a 2:02 in AC in this car but nowhere near the same lines this guy is doing, and hes doing it IRL.
Even the stock AMG GTS/C/R drives incredible

This was demonstration event at Bathurst. Mercedes used this modified GT3 car. They modified the brakes, added DRS and removed engine restrictions and made some other aero changes too. No ordinary GT3 car can reach 300 km/h like this one

A different class but good to see the Mercs get this. A 220SE won class B in the 1961 race (at the Island) driven by Jane and Firth but it would be 14 years later before starting at Bathurst.

1979: Peter Brock set a lap record of around 2 minutes and 14 seconds driving a Holden Torana A9X during the Hardie-Ferodo 1000 at Mount Panorama.
Over 17 seconds faster.
The lap record in 1979 was 2.21 on the last lap!
back then there was no chase either though, which adds at least 10 seconds to the lap.

The AMG GT3 lacks the conrod straight top speed of the Nissan GTS-T driven by the Sheriff where he was caught at close to 330 km/h.
Wow! Not slow in a straight line, my last bike was a ZX14 and that's very comparable, but the corner-speed it can carry! The way it gets up and across and then down the mountain! That's awesome! You're coming out of Reid Pk into Deer Pk and on to McPhillamy and you're over 200 km/h all the way through there! You've got to be pulling 2g of lateral all the way through there to be going that fast! That means sticky tyres and lots of downforce. It looks like a sedan car, but it doesn't drive like one. It drives like a full ground-effect car. Sedan cars do not make between 2 and 3g of lateral at 200 km/h. V8 souper-cars do that, with the big wing thing under the engine, but this is even more striking.

Drag reduction system, it reduces aerodynamic drag for a reduction in grip and an increase in acceleration (used on the straights).
A flap on the rear wing not legal for regular gt3s this one is the "extreme" it doesn't race at this spec

Is telemetry just showing when DRS is available or actually in use. Did they fit a special wing just for this lap?
Was this a non-compliant GT3 that had no BOP and fitted with DRS?

It's not an homologated gt3 either its the extreme with about 700 hp and DRS. Regular gt-r evo gt3lm top to 280-85kph
Comparing apples with oranges- this AMG Gt is running in modified and unrestricted form.
And Angus Foggs 1970 Mustang went 304kph... 😊

Is it just me, or,... did it look like there was a little more there to be had at the top of Mountain Straight, and mid corner of The Cutting, especially considering how good it was across Skyline, and how effing deep he was in The Chase before stoping those brakes and washing off so much speed so quickly.

I would like to know what "specially-prepared" mean
Normally, GT3 cars are a bit restricted and balanced between all the brands to make them equal. Unrestricted you probably get a bit more power, bit less weight, and maybe run the car a bit lower for more downforce. On top of that, DRS like in F1, was added to increase the top speed.
there is a video on the GTWorld channel where they talk about all the modifications done to the car. No intake air restriction=650hp, Carbon-Ceramic brakes, less wight an more
