- I am a firm believer in the fact that the Sonic.exe formula has a ton of potential. I have wanted for years for Sonic.exe to have someone create a better story and game from the character. This is that story. Sonic EYX is the final form of the exe game.

For as important as Sonic.Exe is to the history of creepypastas, its hard to deny the original just isn't that good so I'm happy people have taken what was a pretty neat concept and worked it into something geniunely unnerving
Sonic exe definitely feels like a product of its time. The new stuff has been pretty good so far.

If I was the creator of sonic.exe I'd take solace in the fact I was the one who kickstarted an entire genre of not only creepypastas but full-blown games.
I like how Knuckles of all characters is the only one who is truly aware of what's going on. Eggman and Metal seem to know that something is very wrong but have no idea just how bad things really are.

Something I find funny about EYX is that sonic has only one big eye which is a mutation that usually happens when there's a lack of sonichedgehog protein during the developement of the foetus.

The creator of EYX has released spritework and concepts for the characters, as their "dead" forms. The tails seen near the start with "Go Back" is the dead version that is "official".
Most of the other ones are probably just references. Or maybe it is multiple lives of Tails that have died, which would fit with Knuckles being mad about dying repeatedly.

What boggles my mind is how unapologetically aggressive this rom hack is. It just completely bum rushes you every chances it gets with some form of visual or audio stimuli. The way it has Sonic just peer across the level only for Eggman to just instantly show up laughing and Metal Sonic just shoves you completely across the map or how Tails when seeing EYX in that hell cave, all the little dude had time to do was look away and position himself to run only to have his skull toasted. I'm just so used to EXE games being so passive with their scares and nothing really being in your face so when I see an EXE/Creepypasta game actively trying to scream in your face constantly in rapid bum rush succession I'm actually put off in a good way. I really hope EYX drops an update soon. It's been long enough.
I think the rapid pace helps with making the game feel directed towards you. While in most EXE games the pace is slow and tense to make it seem like the monster is toying with the characters, here it seems like EYX is in a power struggle with the player as you try to escape and stay in the normal world while EYX attacks at every opportunity and intervenes with the original, happier game itself to torment you further.
Thing about EXE is that it feels like it's anger is directed towards the characters and the then the player towards the end. EYX feels like it's not just angry, but it HATES... You, it doesn't want you here and it wants you to feel as unwelcome in it's sickly abode as it possibly can
I've found EYX more scary than the OG Exe or others like Lord X.
EYX genuinely seems like something different, something unstoppable and the worst part is that the characters are aware you're watching them go through all this pain from this demonic entity that can screw with the actual code and literal world of Sonic.
I just wonder what happens next. Knuckles, Tails, and eggman are all dead and now I'm pretty sure Ray has died too...Who else is next in the carnage?

Ah RUclips... Because of it, blurs are mandatory if you don't want to be hit by the Age Restricted and demonetization hammers... Which is a shame since I wouldn't mind seeing the horror while Sacrow talks in his usually calm, yet chilling voice.

I think PC PORT was the one who started it all and got the .exe community to get a massive resurgence in popularity, once being a sonic.exe fangame most like the original game, is now turning into a full fledged game with lots of love poured into it, and i cannot wait to see the final result!
On the Green Hill one, the thing that kills Tails is Cynffonau, the other half of EYX. While EYX himself looks like Sonic, Cyn takes the form of Tails, and it is possible that he's the one who convinced Knuckles.

It's crazy how much detail was put into Sonic.EYX. I feel like I learn more and more obscure secrets about it each time I watch it being played through. Can't wait for part 2.

I remember being young enough to actually be scared by Sonic.exe, simpler times.
The demonic Sonic and Tails actually have names in the EYX lore and are known as Draenog and Cynffonnau (Welsh for Hedgehog and Tails, respectively). They are the same entity (EYX) split into two, the Tails with his head burnt is the real one, you play as Cynffonnau in Green Hill Zone.

Honestly the second game is a really interesting concept of .exe games and really does improve and deconstruct the concepts really well
I love creepy games that actually fuck with your PC (or pretend to) and trick you into thinking you downloaded a virus.
What I think would make EYX better is if you force close the game with ALT + F4 right when ray says "player Save Me", When You open the game again, you get jumpscared by EYX while he says "WHY DID YOU LET MY PREY ESCAPE" and then crashes and deletes the game.
Would be a pretty cool detail. But let’s just say, it didn’t crash and delete the game. This could mean some “Pacifist” or, “savior” path where you do the exact same thing and when everyone’s saved. He does exactly “WHY DID YOU LET MY PRAY ESCAPE?”

Editable ROM is surprisingly deep, I'm curious as to how far it will go.
As for comparing it to MARIO and Personalized Mario 64, another fantastic one is 'The. A Super Mario World rom hack that breaks the fourth wall in a unique way, has several endings, unnerving visuals (maybe not as much as EYX, but still impressive for working on an actual SNES)... not to mention the seemingly endless dialogue boxes the game gives you, and the fact that it will MODIFY itself as you play, tracking what you do, and even mocking you in some spots.
I'd love it if you'd cover this hack, as pretty much every instance of it being covered only gets one ending then quits, thinking that the game only loops after that.

@@Sacrow I will say, 2 of the endings (one nested inside the other) are VERY cryptic on how to find. If you do make a video on it, I recommend either looking for a forum about it, or searching some of the comments in the SMWCentral page. If you want spoiler free stuff, I could probably give hints?
I honestly didn't expect you to respond, a lot of channels around your size tend to ignore or not respond to most comments, so seeing you interact with fans is pretty sweet! I've been enjoying your videos a lot, and the more recent ones have given me nostalgia for some of those classic internet horror stories.

I think that another version of the .exe concept that isn't really talked about enough is the Nightmare series by Jaizkoys (I might've mixed up the i and y there but I'm not sure). Those games all have so many endings, a decently well-told story, and so many different elements in the gameplay. Continued Nightmare: Eye of Three is the one I watched the most playthroughs of when I was still going through my Sonic.exe phase, but all of the games, even the first version of Nightmare Beginning that's honestly kinda barebones compared to the rest, are actually pretty decent games on their own, even aside from the creepypasta elements. They don't rely as much on jumpscares where they don't feel necessary, and the ways that the different endings are achieved actually make a lot of sense

My favorite moment of Sonic.EYX is probably Eggman's death, giving you those small crumbs of a normal Sonic before EYX comes in out of nowhere and messes everything up. It's also a cool moment of foreshadowing from earlier in the level, with EYX preying from the bushes, waiting for its chance to strike. That, plus the Eggman sprites after his head is removed giving off some analog horror vibes (like something you'd see in something like Mandela Catalog) also makes the scene more memorable in my eyes

15:41 The symbol looks like a fast-forward/rewind button on a VCR, at least to me. It's a nice additional taunt, maybe Sonic's way of saying that the player was too scared to see the rest of the game, so they died. Platforming-wise, the game is easy, and Sonic knows this and figures that the player died on purpose. (Sorry for the great wall of text)

I remember Sonic.exe legitimately scaring me back when I was a wee boy, mainly thanks this being one of the few gaming creepypasta to have an actual fan game accompanied with it. Then a youtuber called YuriofWind came out of the blue, tore this story apart in the most hilarious of ways, and made me see this story as a joke ever since.
I remember being scared back in the game by youtubers playing it adding a false backstory saying their friend gave them a sonic copy and acted strangely made 9 year old me think this was real
As someone who hasn't followed the sonic.exe community in about 10 years. To see there are games still being made makes me smile, it's cool to see it getting some decent fan games for a change

it seems that the one eyed sonic and the red eyed sonic are two entities, one eyed being the one behind the corruption, some demon trying to look like sonic, and the red eyed one being the corrupted version of the real sonic

There is something that is pretty creepy too that I think is also great with EYX known as No More Innocene however he doesn't have a actual Fan Game and instead a Mod to FNF and it was lovely as the design and animation is great for this guy as he actually does stuff with your PC just make sure any work you did are saved because while it's jokeware if you lose he will shut down your PC

Ahhh god...I still remember the first time I saw the first version of Sonic.exe,then I've seen one of the most creepiest thing in my entire life,that creepy smile that Sonic does in the end of the game shattered me for 2 weeks lol,with the "IM GOD" message.
One thing to point out about Sally.exe, it's straight up plagiarism of a Sonic creepypasta video from 2011, the original couldn't be found because the channel was shut down. But the levels of Sally.exe came from the first 3 levels of the Sonic video with a few minor differences.
The work around Sonic exe are usually pretty good, can't wait to see where the community take he.

Me personally, my favorite EXE game is Sonic.EXE: Spirits of Hell. It feels like an actual game, yknow? There's story, there's platforming, hell; You even get a chance to save the victims and rewrite the story, it's amazing

Watched this video a few times and i seriously think you would enjoy Exe Spirits Of Hell, has a story, .exe has a character and all that kinda stuff that you want, i seriously think you should take a look at part 1, 2 and the unfinished dlc

Jaiz's sonic.exe games do the format really well but it gets a lot less scary because sometimes you actually know whats going on

Personally my favourite sonic.exe game will always be "nightmare beginning" it has many endings and has an actual boss fight

I think it's important to remember that when Sonic.exe came out, a lot of creepypastas were around the same quality. It was shocking because it was new, as creepypastas haven't grown to the heights they're at now. Other have come along and expanded upon the idea, but none of this would have happened if the original never existed. the Wright Brothers built the first airplane to show it was possible. It wasn't a GOOD airplane, but it was the design that others would improve upon with their own touches to make it even greater. The original Sonic.exe did not age well, but it was the foundation for all of the better stuff down the line. And for that, i'm thankful. Personally, if I created something that inspired so many people to wanna make their own versions and improve upon it, I would feel so honored as this cycle is how art improves.

The weird looking Sonic, and its Tails counterpart, which has gray fur, the same weird marks Sonic has, and lacerated arms, which gets you if you don't go to the left in time

I know you said that Sonic.EXE One Last Time was the best and realized the full potential of Sonic.EXE and I agree with that but only for the horror aspect as in my opinion the best version of the Sonic.EXE is a three part game called Sonic.EXE The Spirits of Hell (note part three is not out yet) as it actually has a story
There is a remake of the "Sonic.exe One more round" that is way better than the one in the video, and was made by the original creator.
It's called "Sonic.exe one last time" currently it's only a demo for tails and knuckles but It's really good.

My canon for Sonic.Exe and its fangames is that after EXE kills everyone in og game then it moves to fangame meaning Sonic revived them to kill them again (thats why they're afraid, its cause they remember their deaths)

this has to be sort of growing up thing as i did grew up with sonic but was already in my 20s when the creepypasta popped up and sonic.exe has never managed to make me emote in any particular manner. would love to see some very restricted and subdued slowburner romhack that doesn't use junpscares or bloody sprites but just slowly turns things wrong or glitchy with extreme restraint, like cartridge tilted game that's just weird enough that it could almost pass up as legitimate thing

I always hear a lot of hatred towards Sonic.EXE but I've never found the idea of an evil god-like Sonic cringy, I always thought it was a neat idea but was executed poorly. I'm glad I stumbled on this video that takes a unique and honest look at the series, definitely a breath of fresh air.

the first entry looked like a Sonic rom hack structured exactly like the fan game but Tails and Knuckles can use their abilities.

it's odd to not see the second wave .exe games considered, those being along the likes of Nightmare Beginning and Spirits of Hell.
Since they wanted to bring something new to the table by having actual gameplay added in and multiple endings to explore in order to incentive getting a good one through replayability, that this demon is beatable.
Of course eventually they flooded the scene and due to most of them having insane difficulty and also not being scary for most people when they weren't trying to be, people eventually went back to the basics and focused on exe games similar to the original sonic.exe.
Fun fact: Sally.exe is the combination of the "SONIC" chinelin creepypasta and sonic.exe
