I think the Rake perfectly captures that raw, almost primal sense of fear only a handful of things can really cause. It would make for a perfect horror movie monster given the horror renaissance of recent years and I'm genuinely mad he's not as relevant given that he's still pretty scary.

I've been researching the Rake for a Decade... unfortunately, it's real... Humans can not walk on all fours with their back level to the ground, watch video "cops checked, no body" you'll see it doing so. Humans do not have "eye shine" the Rake does. Rakes make a pig squeal that reaches notes and octaves humans are incapable of making. Rakes have a 3 segment rear leg, like a horse, humans do not. I've seen at least 30 videos (double that of videos I HAVE debunked) that I can not poke a hole in, disprove or debunk, that's too many to be a hoax... The name may be derived from a creepypasta, but that's not because the creature is "made up," it's because the real creature is similar to the creepypasta creature with 3 eyes, which is why videos of the real creature were dubbed with that name... The watching people sleep part is made up, but finding them in quiet, darkened and/or empty houses is not...

I love how much of a contrast the rake has compared to some of the other creatures that the internet has made over the years. Like while most of them are out for blood, The rake could easily kill you if he wanted to but he usually doesn't because all you have to do is see him and that'll drive you insane enough where he doesn't need to do anything to you. He finds joy in screwing with people, implying that he's going to go after their friends or even them one day. Whether he ever actually does that or not is unimportant, if you saw that thing standing at the foot of your bed and it told you it was going to go after one of your friends or family members you probably wouldn't be the same afterwards either. That's what he wants, and that to me is a lot more unnerving than your standard killer.

It was something about the rake being a cursed pirate and that he wears an amulet that gives him powers/made them like that and if you take it away the rake gets badly hurt/weakened. It was basically a origin vid plus a big self insert character beating the rake. As much as I love origin Storys and weird cryptic things being explored and given history, the story gave too much making the creepyness of it suffer greatly. Can't remember who made the video nor who wrote the story since it was many years ago that i listened to it

The Rake always remembers me of the scariest thing that has happened to me. I was never a person to believe in horror stories and I never had problems sleeping. When I became 18, living in a foster home, I was moved into the house of the old owners right beside for 'observative living' so I can learn how to live on my own. As soon as I got there, I've got massive sleeping issues, only being able to sleep with lights on. One night, the lights turned off during my sleep and I woke up with a pure feeling of horror. I felt like someone was staring at me, sitting at the end of my bed. It was like sleep paralysis, only that you are able to move but you choose not to because the presence you feel is so disturbing. A few years after, I read about the Rake and was directly reminded.

So of all the creepypastas, the Rake was my haunting. The one I believed in the longest, and the one my preteen self dreaded waking up and seeing starring at me from the corner of my rural childhood home.
Because of this, I am, if partially out of disappointment from the movie, a bit inspired to maybe try and give the internet a glimpse of my own interpretation of the creature. You see, what got me was the fact that, once you saw the Rake, it didn't have to kill you.
Yes, a lot of the time it did, and usually pretty gruesomely, but it was always a drawn out process. I believed it would be slow. Once you see the creature, it imprints upon you in some fashion, and your life becomes cursed. It will prophet the end of all you love, all the while making everything and everyone around you its hostage.
Yet it almost never makes a demand. After all, the Rake needs nothing from you. Though it might try to break you and see how far into the depths of morbidity it can drive you, that's only if it decides your best use is as a piece of amusement. It could also demand you be witness to horrors, both committed by it, and other peculiar beings.
It could lead you on to whatever ends it wanted, perhaps even offering devilish deals for your acts in its favor, which might even feel so cryptic they don't even come off as evil. You don't know however, and that's what's scary. The fact that this thing is so nebulous, you'll never truly get a read on what it is or what it wants.
The only thing you know for sure, is that from the moment you wake to see those voids starring back at you, your life will be defined by death.

The rake is the scariest creepypasta monster in my opinion. Why? The rake is an apex predator. The rake is old so it knows what it's doing, it's been doing this since the 16th century, which has given it plenty of time to perfect its methods, and it enjoys what it does it takes pleasure in being that white flash in the corner of your eye, the tapping on your window or the scraping against your houses walls at night, the reason you feel like you're being watched, those weird scratches you'll find on yourself in the morning, it smiles to itself as you're slowly driven insane by it not by any magical means like slender but simply through being those unexplained noises and experiences that you know about but can't tell anyone about for fear of being ridiculed. It enjoys every, single, second of it. It isn’t doing this for food or any logical reason. To the rake the torment it inflicts is just a game. And then when it's had its fun with you as it's plaything you'll wake up one night to find it sitting at the foot of your bed where it will make one final decision before moving on to another poor soul. "Will I maul you and leave your mangled corpse for others to find? Or will I tell you my name and leave you a broken delusional wreck of a human being?"

I learned about The Rake at the rip age of around 6-7y/o, and it's been the boogeyman for me ever since.
When I was 8y/o and explored more horror content via Top Ten scary videos, ScareTheatre, etc. and later on people like Nexpo and a few others that I don't really watch anymore. Videos talking about scary shit like godlyrecon, ruth 911 call, and other bizzare strange media that at the time i had a hard time telling what was real and what wasn't. Heck, when I first heard the Sonic.exe creepypasta, or I guess the gameplay video of it, especially the Sally one, those ones scared the shit out of me. The sally one still does!
Anyways I'm getting off track, the internet made young me paranoid. I'd think someone was gonna break into our house and kill us when we were all asleep, so I'd stay up really late just to make sure that nothing would happen. Man the amount of times I'd get in trouble is unbelievable, but surprisingly at the time I didn't know why'd I'd stay up so late at times. Like it had become instinct.
I'd create, I suppose intrusive thoughts? Not sure, but I'd like imagine a creature, horrifying and honestly even today they mostly have their base be that of The Rake (y'know deviantart bases? yeah kinda like that I think, but with The Rake). Usually this Rake-like creature would peak around the corner of the door that my parents kept open, or I'd walk down the hallway and imagine it just sporadically sprinting towards me in the most inhumane way possible. Any spot where a monster could be, it could be, and either it would just notice me, or be running straight at me with malicious intent.
I assume these are intrusive thoughts of some kind, because they're supposed to scare you and are abrupt. Like I'll imagine what the monster looks like, then vividly imagine it running towards me, not like, imagine the scenario in my head, if that makes sense.
Seems a bit extreme for intrusive thoughts though, 'cause I usually hear of it being things like "stab the person next to you" while you're chopping vegetables or something, which I used to get, but idk. Maybe these are the ones no one talks about, or I have some mental issues. (probably the latter.)
    TL;DR
Don't let kids (or teenagers, or anyone below the age of 25) on the internet, it'll fuck them up!

The Rake had a lasting mental impact on me that no other scary piece of media ever has. After I first read it I had many sleepless nights. I knew logically that it wasn't real, but that didn't stop my mind from being completely freaked out by it. Even now, I get put on edge if I think about it too much in bed at night. It's become the monster my subconscious mind fears. It's the default creature that appears in my nightmares, and in the few times in my life that I've experienced sleep paralysis, the Rake was the creature that my mind manifested multiple times. The worst sleep paralysis I ever had involved a smaller version of the Rake climbing onto my bed and sitting on my chest, staring at me with those empty black eyes. I was only broken out of it because my dog ran into my room, I guess he could sense I was in distress. So props to the creators of the Rake for making something that had a permanent psychological impact on me.

My theory for the rake was that it really was trying to make people fear of the future by either serving as a precursor to tragedy or simply too terrifying for someone to keep witnessing after sleep, until people started hunting and trying to lure it out that drove it to murder. Or maybe the woods are its home and it’s trying to protect what it considers its territory, and the people that see it at home were just witnessing the rake’s curious side when it comes to human settlements.

I honestly think he thought the rake was real too, but let me tell you when he told me that a weird skin creature was gonna open my door in the middle of the night and stare at me.. it ruined my LIFE. In a good way haha. I had no concept of scary stuff at that time, and for a full five years I just thought the rake was a real creature, just one I hadn’t encountered. Like a capybara or a scorpion.

The Rake was one of the very few things in my childhood that actually gave me nightmares. I was a fan of horror stories, always going after creepypastas and stuff, I loved the chills of a well told horror and was always happy to scare my friends with them (sometimes even adding something to the story just to scare them even more, I was a troll). I distinctly remember enjoying Slenderman in particular for no specific reason, and that was what caused me to search more and more until I found the fucking Rake.
I never once left a video out of fear, but I think something about that corpse-like appearance just hit me in a very personal way, and the story was perfect to make a kid get scared. That was the day I stopped searching for creepypastas and horror stuff....... for about a month, but still.

The only connection I had to the Rake was a Roblox game by the same name. It was, as best I can describe it, multi-player survival where everyone had to run and try not to get eaten.
The world map was dark, a few buildings for safety scattered about, including a light cabin. There was the burning bus that presumably brought us there, but no one knew for sure. We had to run, but we could choose to go it alone or stick with the herd. With the group, you were always scared that the Rake would come and that you wouldn't be fast enough to get away. Alone, you could hide better, but the paranoia could kill you before the Rake ever did. The Rake itself was gray, like in the stories, but its mouth was always open, filled with sharp jagged teeth meant for tearing off chunks of flesh. Its arms were unnaturally long, something not helped by the claws it had instead of fingers. It was fast, too, faster than anything human like should be. And it was so skinny. You could see its ribs and its chest heave when it caught you and ate you. I know because it did. Too many times. When you died, it wasn't the end. You were tossed back into the world to feed that, that thing. Whether you tried to run or hide, it didn't matter, tye Rake would find you. It would kill you. Then the chase would begin again.

I looked up to take a glance outside as we were used to getting raccoons and other critters. In the darkness I saw what looked like a skinny, deformed and awkward humanoid creature around 6ft. It was grayish. My eyes slowly explored this odd being. My gaze fell upon it’s ‘face’. It was severely taut and twisted, as if somebody had stretched the face of a human over the skull of a dog. It’s eyes were small, eerily human-like, and I realized it had seen me. It scuttled away like some spider and within an instant it was gone. I never saw it again.
