Principles of Animation: Timing

- This week, we're covering the timing principle of animation. At it's core, timing is about choosing how short, or how long, an action will take to complete. This is decided in total number of frames drawn to complete the action, resulting in the object appearing to obey the laws of physics.

Love anime academy and the showing of behind the scenes stuff is awesome
Once you start animating, you think about the timing and spacing of what you see in day to day life.
I have a rope skipping animation assignment due soon. It relys a lot on timing and spacing. It's basically my character jumping up and down with a lot overlapping action especially with the hair and clothes. It's a bit tough to determine how fast/slow each bit has to move.

The timing and spacing of Plawres Sanshiro was great . Welcome back Evan !! Can you bring back Chrunchycast ? My favorite anime podcast.
This principle of animation is actually really fun to figure out and see in action, but its can be frustrating when something doesn't look right and you have to double back over your animation. If you're working on something like a game with 3D animation, stuff can get complicated, I imagine, when you need to accurately portray a run cycle to match a characters movement speed.
