This actually looks better than a lot of ML footage calling itself, 'cinematic'. Good job and props to your skills in exposure, colour grading, and overall knowing how to get the most out of the 8 bit h.264 - fair play!
This is fire! Who else is seeing this from 2018? I came online to do some research on what is obtainable with the eos M (for video work only) and reading your description, i'm quite satisfied using this as a b-cam.Thanks for sharing.
Stunning result indeed. This even looks better than the outcome of all these special-flat-picturestyle-LUT-workflows. Would love to hear about some details of your colorgrading, too.
Don't ever stop man. I love every single video on your chanel. I am new to filmmaking, I try to look at others people work as much as i can to better myself, this film is a great portrayal of what can be done when you put your mind to it. Honestly breathing taking film, every clip is just perfect. color grading etc man you really put in work. I hope to see more of your content soon. Peace ALSO, This video just shows you thats its never your gear that holds you back, It is yourself. Great movie
2nd time I've found this in a search. 2nd time I've been amazed at what you've achieved and 2nd time I've wondered how the hell you do it. The workflow, the amount of hours you recorded to discard. Fantastic job but I wish I knew where to start.
I just ordered one as a companion camera to my 6D in video and I'm so excited to use it. It's definitely a work horse. Great job at the b-roll! I'm impressed you got this much quality with a minimal setup
WoW ! Great video ! It’s impressive how this focal lenght instantanely give a cinema feeling to the footages ... By the way, i really love how you manage exposure on contrasty lighting scenarios, color grading is on point too... (Sorry for my bad English, I am learning)
I've had this camera for over a year and have used it a lot. No clue how you got it too look this good. My videos always come out soft and a bit muddy. Well done.
+michablog At the moment, I am swamped with work but I will try to make one possibly in the near future since several people have been asking. Thank you!
Same here, please. The result on my camera, is so bad, no matter I try. I will love to see a stept by step video, just to be shore I didn't mes-up something. Fantastic video !
You absolutely do! I just bought a M10 and was considering taking it back and swapping it for a Nikon D3300 (this is my first manual function camera), but seeing your results makes me want to stick with it. A video showing how you achieved this look would be greatly appreciated! Subbed..
Omg this is so beautiful! This is so funny I live so close by! But yeah thank you for the video it was super helpful. Im trying to make some cinematic worship covers and this may do the trick!
I just got this camera with lens for $140 and if this is what I can expect to look forward to I'm super excited. The look of this clip is everything I want. Thank you.
Wow this is incredible, I’ve been toying between the 50mm and the 22mm for my M50 and I think now after seeing what’s possible with this 22 I’ll go for that!!! Thankyou!!
Nicely shot and well edited! Recently picked up a the EOS M3 myself, it really is a fun little camera. I think I'll go out and shoot something now, thanks for the inspiration!
I didn't mean you lied))) I mean it's impressive and inspiring! You proved that it's possible to make a real masterpiece without mark iii))) so you're real master))))
Comment section is great! Almost every question I had about this awesome video has been asked and responded too! Great stuff dude! BTW, the fact you did this WITHOUT going RAW has made me feel a million times better about getting the M10 (no Magic Lantern :( )
Hi Pil, Just stumbled across this vid of yours, bloody beautiful, mate! I was wondering if you can remember what ISO you used in your very low light night shots here? I have the same lens using the M6 mkII. Have just subscribed. Cheers from down under. 👍
Wow this is incredible- awesome stuff! The H264 footage on this camera is definately good enough for most situations by itself, I have and do use that mode frequently still, not always shooting RAW. How did you grade it by the way, I think if we hadn't been told it wasn't RAW, you'd be hard pressed to tell in places!
Well damn that's awesome. Got a very cinematic feel to it. This could be the "before"-sequence of an apocalyptic movie. :D Gonna buy the M3 pretty soon and hope to get the 22mm, too.
+GigaBeeld At 800 ISO, it is still pretty clean in low light but max ISO used in this video was 1250 which is where it starts to get grainy if there is not enough ambient light. The 22mm f/2 lens helps to aid in low light shooting which is why I used that particular lens. This camera is basically a rebranded/remade mirrorless model of the Canon Rebel T2i if that helps for reference purposes.
It's perfect! I had the same camera and lense, but always have preblem with focus. The fun thing - thanks to you and 1:08 now I understood how 22mm ring works. Just I had to change the focus settings from AF to MF. By the way - is neutral profile better than technicolor (suppose it is more "flatter") for post production?
Thanks! I use both picture profiles for different situations for work and personal projects. If you want a more finished look with light corrections in post, then I'd probably go for the Neutral profile which is also better for shooting in low light since there is more contrast to cover up the ISO noise. The technicolor cinestyle is more flatter so it provides a bit more control in post. I have a video showing before/after on my page if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
White balance when you're shooting is important. Also, white balance correction in post will change the overall look in my experience. Besides that, I did very light correction and grade to get this look.
Wow! This is amazing especially with an old eos m camera. I'm really torn between getting a 22m or and 11-22mm wide angle lens. The Bokeh in this video is intense I love it
+Chuck Franco Thank you! Honestly, they're both essential lenses but you should choose the lens that you would use the most right now. I would eventually get both though =).
Wow. I'm a little torn at the moment. I've watched so many videos filmed with this camera and reviews about it. But I see extremely different results every time. This looks amazing. But I've also seen a little worse, where it looks like the quality of the camera is really bad. Are the lenses the main difference between qualities or is it the settings?
+Anna Linder Thank you! As long as you understand the basics, you will not have a problem getting clean results out of this camera. In terms of getting the most quality, it comes down to picture profile settings, exposure settings, and most importantly, the editing. Using a prime lens is always going to be a little, if not more sharper than a zoom lens however I've used both and I have gotten good results. Lens choices are dependent on what you are shooting so choose whatever you prefer or works best for you. Hope this helps!
Yes this will help me a lot. I'm currently looking for a smaller video camera, for exactly this kind of purpose. Thank you for replying. I will continue to watch your videos to get inspiration and learn more.
@@annalinder2136 I know this is 2 years later but right now I'm just in the same situation as you, there are so many videos here in RUclips where the quality looks really bad, all the footage looks burned, super saturated with a big bunch of "vintage filters". But this video changes everything, it looks perfect.
+michablog Thank you! For this video, I just used Fast Color Corrector for white balance correction, RGB Curves for S-Curve to add contrast or to also boost the shadows if the shot was underexposed, and sharpening to finish it off. Everything was done in this order.
"The reason I purchased this camera was because I wanted a smaller form factor than my Canon DSLRs without compromising image quality". Exactly this was my intention! You nailed it! Great stuff. I recently purchased a M1 and wanted to try raw footage. But I don´t like the workflow with MLV app and my M1 was buggy with ML. So I removed ML again and at the moment I´m fiddeling around with different picture styles like technicolor, vision tech, etc. When I see your video, the quality is so great, there´s no need for filming in raw. Can you tell me, why you still using ML, even without raw? Did you add a letterbox? Regards
can you please do a tutorial on this? I have a short film production and It'll be my first time to be the cameraperson, Appreciate all of your work so much!! it looks amazing
Thanks for this video. I will get my EOS M tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Can't wait to shoot some stuff. :) I also was wondering why some people get a really bad video quality, but you somehow managed to get a really great quality. Will test your settings. :) Did your Color Correction also have some sharpen in it or something else? There are CC settings for Magic Bullet Looks that can sharpen the image quality as well? :)
+Niko Rhino Thanks! I think the reason for people having bad video quality probably has something to do with user error. I did do some basic color correction, such as, white balance, contrast, and sharpening without any third party apps so everything was done within Premiere Pro. All of the corrections made were very subtle so the image you see is very close to the actual un-edited footage. I did not use any Magic Bullet Looks. I think you may have been referring to Magic Lantern. I can't say for sure if Magic Bullet Looks applies sharpening but you can always do that manually if needed within Premiere Pro.
Pilz Yang Magic Bullet Looks is a program for video editing software such as Premiere, Sony Vegas or After Effects. You can also add different filters with it and I thought you may added something similar like it to the video. I will instantly install Magic Lantern on it and test your settings. This video basically convinced me to buy the camera. All other video tests were really blurry as I said. Many people also upload with a bad bitrate or resolution and then you can't even see the real quality which is sad. :/ So thanks again! :)
Yeah, I don't really see what Magic Lantern could do here that you couldn't do without it if you're not shooting raw. There are a lot of features that could certainly make things easier, like focus peaking and manual WB control, but not necessarily impossible to achieve w/o the software.
Pilz Yang can you do a color grading tutorial? I love how your footage turned out and would love a similar look. I purchased this camera because of your videos. I have much to learn.
You encourage me to use my m10 more... Recently ive been hooked by magic lantern video on youtube, but forgot raw capability is not on top of what i need... It is composition and mastering the natural light...
Did you use any noise reduction in post? My EOS M has very visible noise in every ISO setting in video mode, and I can't figure out why all the clips in RUclips don't. Or is it the difference of shooting with/without Magic Lantern?
Nice Footage, free of Noise. How you set your camera to avoid the noise. I use the same camera and the same lens, but when I start to shot I see some noise, I also use magic lantern.
dwifath Thank you! I normally don't go above ISO 1250 to avoid any unwanted noise. It does still get a bit noisy 800+ but some of the noise in the video gets lost in youtube compression as well. I also don't mind the grain as long as it still maintains the quality of the image.
Pilz Yang thank you bro, how about your render setting ? I've made my video not more than ISO 1250. But when I see after it was exported, I see more noise there.
Mr yangz fabulous video What's the editing software you used and what's the export setting used to upload to RUclips and how did you get the letterbox???? Help please I have same camera with same lens when I upload video at 24fps 1080 to RUclips it looks choppy and distorted any reason why this is I've used pp cs6 and fcpx both weird 😬
+abdul rashid I use Adobe CC. The text was created within Premiere using the software's available title tools. When you export make sure to render at maximum depth and the higher you set the bit rate, the better the video will respond to compression when uploading to RUclips.
Edgar Moreno I just added a little bit of contrast and S curve. Most of it was color straight out of the camera. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I notice that even though it's not raw, I don't see any moire/aliasing effect on any of the shots. Is this camera naturally aliasing free or you did something special for that?
Hi do u think it is worth it if i own a 30mm f1.4 lens and buy this 22 mm lens to be use on apsc, do u think the extra focal distance will be a advantage or i can just have a few step backwards?
+wanakmalarief WAN ABD RAHMAN I would prefer the 30mm f/1.4 but the 22mm is better for travel due to the small pancake size. It really depends on your preference and what you plan to use it for.
5 years later. Just beautiful. Like a movie.
This actually looks better than a lot of ML footage calling itself, 'cinematic'. Good job and props to your skills in exposure, colour grading, and overall knowing how to get the most out of the 8 bit h.264 - fair play!

very nice!

this is INCREDIBLE for a 2012 camera. congratulations on making that beautiful footage
💪🏾 This video proves that the EOS M can shoot great-looking video WITHOUT Magic Lantern RAW.
Only after I had read the description I learned that this wasn't RAW. Phenomenal shots and color grading!
Can you do a quick colour grading tutorial for this, it looks amazing

thank you very much for this! really helped me to take decision which one to buy
very nice, but a little problem in stabilization. overall great! wanna try 22mm for my m50..

Absolutely Fantastic Work, Brother!!!
Unbelievable, bravo!
This is soooo good, great work man!
+Julien Vollweiter Thanks!
nice screen view , your others footage you made with same camera?, regards
Wonderful shots. This video inspired me to pick up a camera and lens.
+iJfry Thanks! Get out there and shoot!

Really impressive. I am motivated now to step out of my house with my 22mm and make a video.
Love the video! I was planning to buy 22mm f2 and was looking around for some night videos but found this instead.
Well damn that's awesome. Got a very cinematic feel to it. This could be the "before"-sequence of an apocalyptic movie. :D
Gonna buy the M3 pretty soon and hope to get the 22mm, too.
+TheNeicul Thanks!
+Pilz Yang On a side note, what's the music used?
+TheNeicul After watching this video of this pretty cheap camera and seeing the footage i really want to get one. But how is lowlight?
+TheNeicul I just added it to the description section.
+GigaBeeld At 800 ISO, it is still pretty clean in low light but max ISO used in this video was 1250 which is where it starts to get grainy if there is not enough ambient light. The 22mm f/2 lens helps to aid in low light shooting which is why I used that particular lens. Very nice presentation of the lens performace. It has everything I need to check. Thanks for sharing.

It's perfect! I had the same camera and lense, but always have preblem with focus. The fun thing - thanks to you and 1:08 now I understood how 22mm ring works.
I would be happy if you tell me how you corrected color))
White balance when you're shooting is important. Also, white balance correction in post will change the overall look in my experience. Besides that, I did very light correction and grade to get this look.
Влад Стерхов I can't figure out how to zoom with 22 mm lens help

Nice video and music also. I just purchased an M50 and this may be a good example of how I can shoot with it and a 22mm prime lens.

yea definitely, i need the wide angle for now and will definitely get the 22m later on. :)

ZEK ZEN I used neutral. If you check the description section I have specific settings listed.

what is magic lantern?
what makes you think he used it ? what characteristics would ML provide ?

What's the editing software you used and what's the export setting used to upload to RUclips and how did you get the letterbox????
Help please I have same camera with same lens when I upload video at 24fps 1080 to RUclips it looks choppy and distorted any reason why this is I've used pp cs6 and fcpx both weird
😬
+abdul rashid I use Adobe CC. The text was created within Premiere using the software's available title tools. When you export make sure to render at maximum depth and the higher you set the bit rate, the better the video will respond to compression when uploading to RUclips.
I cannot stop watching this video, congratulations!, please help us with a colour grading tutorial. I will appreciate it so much.
Edgar Moreno I just added a little bit of contrast and S curve. Most of it was color straight out of the camera. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Pil Yang thank you very much! It is an excellent video
Amazing results
I notice that even though it's not raw, I don't see any moire/aliasing effect on any of the shots. Is this camera naturally aliasing free or you did something special for that?
Wooooow those colors are amazing
+Brandon. R Canon =)
How much do you want for this camera? I will buy!
