Good morning John, that is a great start to the F14 build, those Quinta decals certainly do make the cockpit look more realistic, and you 'bomb' it up the way you want, since it is your build, best regards from Melbourne Australia, Les
@@MisterGsWorkbench No problem 👍 You are correct about the refuelling probe door. That thing got broken more often due to the increased tempo of refuelling ops in combat cruises and too many ended up down the intake. As for a 1997 bird carrying GBU-16s, no sweat! The F-14D was already carrying precision munitions by then anyway as the Lantern pod had been introduced to the fleet years earlier when Dale “Snort” Snodgrass (RIP) got the project underway to install the system taken from the F-15E. F-14s were dropping precision weapons in the Balkan regions in the mid 90s so it’s totally doable. Whether that jet in particular was used during those missions, I can’t say without researching it, but it’s totally plausible.
@@Zone5Aviation That's some great info - see I honestly don't know as much as I'd like about that time period. I know the markings don't match the OIF period but I'm working with what I have. Like I mentioned in the video I just didn't want to do an all grey bird this time around. Don't hesitate to let me know as the build progresses what I'm doing wrong!
I totaly agree John about all grey aircraft. I was with VMA-AW-533 from 1978 to 1982, flying A6E Intruders and all 12 aircraft had the dark blue tail, with white Hawk and the rudder was blue & white checkerboard. The other marine squadrons also had colored tails in their squadron colors, etc.
Can’t go wrong with the tamiya f-14. I apsolutely loved building mine. I did the VF-11 red rippers grey jet. It turned out great and it was just an absolute pleasure to build
@@scottk9806 I had built the -A a while back and I enjoyed the kit. Unfortunately it didn't survive the move so time for another Tomcat. Thanks for watching!
@@briansonnenfelt7125 I really thought that kit might be a game changer but the fit between the forward fuselage and the rear fuselage was awful. Appreciate you watching!

AMK F-14 a "$hit Show". I feel like that's an understatement ;-). Yet somehow i managed to finish mine. What's more miraculous? I rescued it from the shelf of doom. Id buy a Hasegawa D and Quinta Interior before i mess with another AMK F-14. Incidentally, my Quinta A-10 interior had the same lightish grey as well. Seems to match well with LGG... Another excellent video!
@@buckmerdoc8860 Thanks very much! I really wanted the AMK kit too be a winner, but the fit of the front and rear fuselage halves was terrible. Thanks for watching!
Love Tamiya kits, been building them for years, even their old kits go together great. Presently building the Tamiya F4U-1/2 and i used Red Fox 3D instruments decals in the cockpit, they are a little different when compared to the Quinta Studio 3D instrument decals i bought for Magic factory Corsair builds. Ive never built Tamiya's 1/48 scale F14D, does it require nose weights or not? Didnt see you add any. Just wondering. Keep on building.😅
I didn't add a nose weight- it's not called for in the instructions. As for Tamiya kits- I build them but not as much as other kits. I guess my tastes are a little more exotic. I appreciate your feedback- good luck with your build!
14:47 What is the name of that product you are using there, to full in the gap under the cockpit. It seems to be a very easy way to fill in little gaps.
Looks freaking awesome so far. Great job!

So awesome, I can't wait for the next video. One of my favorite models of all time.
Well, I aim to please, and this one's been on my radar for a while going back to the failed build of the AMK kit. Thanks for watching!
@MisterGsWorkbench Yes, the AMK kit is difficult, but can be done. You just need gobs of patience.
Can’t go wrong with a Tamiya build. Nice accessories you to go on the Turkey. Enjoy the build.

Good move to disregard the Tamiya decals. When I built this kit it didn’t take long for the Tamiya decals to start peeling off.
