    I have the model almost finished. The build itself is quite straigtforward except the use of Komplekt Zip resin parts. The fit is bad but not horrible. I've end up using just the resin radar cover and the rear part of fusselage. I've also added Aires cockpit as the Quinta Studio did not exist when I started the build :). Wish you luck with yours!

    Wish you luck and bravery building it! :) Su-24M from Trumpeter is totally wrong in shape (the whole nose part including cockpit and intakes, the whole rear part with nozzles and their fuselage housing). Plus a ton of other mistakes in details. There are separate Vector resin correction sets for the nose, intakes and tail section + nozzles, but they are not cheap.

    It turned out great. Congrats! Have you had the Cobra on Scale Model Shows or Cups? I am just about to start this kit. I got my hands on the Marine HiTech box at a local scale model show and paid only 57 Bucks for it just before vendor closed. For this price it was like free. What did you use for fixing canopies? Normal cement, PVA or some kind of clear glue? Just one observation. The instruction for colors are wrong in some points. For instance the gearbox are of AH-1G was not painted in zinc chromate yellow but more like green zinc chromate. As far as I know chromate yellow was used for later versions. Cheers

    The "box" he refers to in the wheel well is actually the aircraft battery. He made a mistake painting it red because that's the color they paint a battery when it becomes unserviceable. In times past the aircraft battery should be painted blue. Nowdays they are pink, of all colors... And the bottle that he refers to as an "oxygen" bottle in the other side of the wheel well is actually a halon bottle. That is all the F-16 has for fire suppression.

    • @MisterGsWorkbench
      @MisterGsWorkbench Месяц назад

      Hi Robert - Hawaiian Air Depot supplies files that are formatted for two cutting machines - the Cricut and the Silhouette. The files have all the sizing done for you and feature different national insignia, numbers, and a host of other masks like for the formation lights and others. You take the ones you're going to use and arrange them on a page that would fit in the cutter and using a vinyl material like Oramask you cut them out for use. This was the first time I've used anything like this and I was very happy with the results. You can buy these machines for under US $100 if you look online. I appreciate the question and thank you for watching. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Great videos, and thanks for the updates! What do you use for gap filler? I've put pieces of sprue in a jar of liquid cement (Testors is cheaper) and let it melt to a consistency I like. I use either a toothpick or think piece or wire to apply a drop or blob. It flows pretty good, and I just continue to add as needed. Sanding is easier.

    I hope you don’t mind me adding a few more comments. You talked about the “two handled gizmo.” This was used by the front seat pilot/gunner to aim and fire the nose turret mounted guns. The turret usually housed a 7.62 mini-gun and 40mm grenade launcher. Some also had twin mini-guns. Underneath the cockpit was the ammo bay with 4,000 rounds for the mini-gun and 300 rounds for the grenade launcher. Another person talked about the dirt on the floor. This was our reality. During the dry season, every inch of our Cobras was covered with a fine grit of red dust. Where we were (Song Be), there was no way to wash them. Same went for us. During the monsoons, that fine grit turned into a thick gooey mess. The window seals wore out rather quickly, so they leaked - everything in the cockpit stayed damp and smelled like a high school locker room. You never left your helmet hanging upside down. You can only imagine what we and our Cobra’s looked like when got back to our rear area after being “up country” for about seven to ten days.

    • @MisterGsWorkbench

    The AH-1G depicted on the box is in the colors of “B” Battery, 2/20th Aerial Rocket Artillery (ARA), First Cavalry Division. I flew that aircraft and several more during my tour in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. “A” battery had the triangle just below the cockpit, we had the square and “C” Battery had the circle.

    I finished the 2nd plane last weekend. This is a really really nice kit - paint masks and PE are included. I thought the instructions were a bit lacking, critical illustrations were shaded - looked like they were photocopied. Didn’t occur to me to straighten the bent wing, but your “how to “ was really interesting 😃. I made a rookie mistake with the 1st fuselage by. Installing the engine firewall upside down. Figured that out the next day and fixed that, but then I had to do a bit of bondo. So that fuselage became the bent wing model - the bent wings hide the affected area 😁. When I compared the Magic Factory Corsair to the Tamiya, the Magic Factory is clearly the more detailed model. And of course blows the doors off my Academy F4U 😂

      There's been talk about the rivet patterns being fictional but I'm not gonna lie- it doesn't matter to me when the kit builds up this nice. You're absolutely right- the instructions leave a bit to be desired for sure. Thanks for your feedback!

    What would be the replacement color for the half glass grey?

      Honestly I haven't found the correct color. After this build I've decided that the standard grey jets are less aggravating. I wish I had a better answer.

    This is a really useful series. I have the CF-188 boxing and I have been a bit intimidated to start it due to the many problems I've heard about. Your series is helping me pre-plan my build so I can hopefully overcome what ever issues pop up as I go through it.

      Glad to hear it Rob - I hope you'll let me know how it goes. This kit has a lot of potential. Thanks for watching!

      @@MisterGsWorkbench Will do. I'm a novice as far as aircraft builds go but I really love the F/A - 18 so I figure I need to just work through the challenges!
