I've owned my 2007 Silverstone S2000 for 10 years now. I still look forward to every drive. At 64 years old I'm not the typical owner but I've come to terms with the fact that it's pretty hard core. It just begs to be revved, so I do.
The S is definitely a good car to buy for those who want a sporty car without losing any money. It’s one of the few cars that could be considered a good investment.
like anything, you get used to daily driving anything. I've been dailying my 2003 ap1 for 17 years. I can't pick anything up at ikea. But in 2020, anything is deliverable now so it makes the S more practical lol!
Just recently, I almost made the mistake to sell my AP1. I priced it fairly based on s2k market conditions and the current condition of my car. I couldn’t believe how many people wanted to buy it within days of posting it. Short story: I didn’t need to sell it. I only wanted to sell it to have the extra funds for something else. I’ll be keeping mine forever.
First off, WOW those brakes 😳. I love Honda and I strongly considered an S2K after I sold my RS, but to me the price exceeded the value. I felt the same when I nearly bought an NSX. I haven't owned either, and while I have great appreciation for both, I guess I don't have that emotional connection that some do. Personally for the money I'd rather buy something newer with more amenities and improved safety. Perhaps I'll revisit it again as a project car down the road. Great video as always Fenton! 👍
Ive been wanting to buy an S2000 for many months now. I've saved up to buy a 2007 with very low mileage. I've always loved the car since seeing the S2k in the first fast and furious movie. They want 21k and I'm probably gunna buy it cash for 19k.
It was always my dream to purchase one, and when I graduated college and found a job I finally made that dream come true, I found a MY00 with 54k for 15k all stock, I don’t think I’ll ever sell it and I’m super happy with having the AP1 granted I daily a 03 CL-S 6MT
If your ap1 is 2000 or 2001 you are set. Those Ecu ran rich and since the f22c is more like a 21.5 cc you won’t have running issues. Just remember not to exceed 8.5 K revs because the piston speeds become too much beyond that.
@Joshua H Yeah, and there are many cars superior to the ap2. If the ap2 engine is so superior, why was it kept around the world market in particular Europe? All the f20c needs is updated retainers and banjo bolts if you have a MY 00, 01. Some people clamor and want the 9k red-line combined with the raw edgy handling. The ap1 is how Honda engineered the s2k to be. Honda pretty much softened the s2k with the ap2 in America for the common folk because the ap1 was too raw.
I think the idea that these cars, like the E46 M3 is underpowered relative to the modern cars is juvenile. The majority of people who love these cars love them for the same reasons the more well funded enthusiasts love the air cooled Porsches. A 964 is significantly slower than any modern 911 but people gravitate to them because of the analog feel they deliver. Every sports car over 65k seems to clock 60 in under 4 seconds so who gets to 60 by a few inches first is a moot point, at least in my opinion.
The S2K is still a great buy, there really is nothing like it out there. The ND is close but like you said the S2K has special sauce that gives it that little something extra. While the ND is happy to drive at 7/10s the S2K is always egging you on to go faster. I bought my second S2K last year and I daily it with SBG Ohlins. The S2K makes a great daily but I also haven't owned a car with back seats in over 16 years so I may be the wrong person to comment on that..
Oh its absolutely a great purchase now and in the future too. Nothing compares to an S2000 or ever will. Its truly unique and special in every way. My personal favorite is the AP1 :) You gotta get another S2000 soon Zygrene! I know u miss it so much ;)
I bought my wife a 2004 S2K with 5500 miles on it in 2006 (It was titled new in 2005). Its been her daily driver since and the girl just loves it! It has 77k miles on it now. The top is always down unless it's raining or extremely cold here in NW Florida. Regarding maintenance, I'm on my third top (original, a 2nd top completed by the dealer under warranty, and the 3rd top by LHT), I had urethane bushings installed by LHT, and just routine maintenance completed by me. This car never breaks down or breaks the bank! It just keeps going! We'll never let this car go. We love it!
Zygrene so should I buy one now while they’re still “cheaper” or will it generally be in the same price range beginning of next year. I’m deployed atm.
Definitely a fun car to drive and worth every penny but you hit it on the nail. I don't buy car to look at it so I wouldn't spend that much money to let it sit. I get a decent price S2k and smash on it daily.
Five years in clean stock'06 79.8k hope to keep indefinitely. Weekend car. But will run errands in it too. A really good sound system with Bluetooth is a nice addition. I recommend it. With that on board, and the car kept super clean, I can't imagine a more perfectsports car for the road in the real world at legal speeds. I have no interest whatsoever in tracking mine. But I sure do love to take it to the mountains.
I just watched a couple of your vids. You definitely know how to drive, you have skills. I just bought a lightly used 2006 S2000 with 54K miles on it. The car is in extremely good condition. I agree with you that this vehicle has a better appreciation value than other sports cars in the segment and it is a very unique drive compared to the others cars in its class. Mine is bone stock and my recently ordered mods to start are front and rear sway bars with poly bushings. My next will be a master poly bushings kit. Ill stay there for a while and look at a brake kit down the road. Good vid, great info so keep up the fun work.
Tax wise , here in Europe , the S2000 is much better option than the other cars your mentioned. V6 engines cars cost an average of 4000€ to register and 1000€ per year in "road taxes". Other viable options would be MX5 or GT86 but they are too mainstream compared to S2000.
@@Zygrene Yup. It's cool to see, but I'm like you - I wanna drive the damn thing. I'll keep my 120K mile AP1 until it blows up and I don't think it'll be any time soon.
@@Zygrene Yeah, I'll be honest, I mentioned this to my (S2000 specific) mechanic when I first bought the car 5 years ago. I got a valve adjustment and all of that, but he said to just leave the retainers. I was surprised but I'll just try my best not to overrev it. So far, so good. I know tons of people make this change though.
Great review, wwll put together and presented. I just put a deposit on a red 2004 S2000 with 79,000 kilometers on the odometer. Taking it home next week.
I’ve got an 02 Silverstone on full red with ~32 k on it that I’ve had for almost two years. Previous cars include F-type jag with 6 speed. 335, alfa gtv6, tr6, mgb and Austin Healy sprite. Love love love the s2k. Been autocrossing several times. Best car ever.
Here in Europe they have kept the AP1 engine ith the 9k redline till the end, but also introduced the AP2 optics in 04. Best of both worlds. Lucky enough to have gotten an 08 one and never going to sell it. This car simply defines driving pleasure. Yes, there are faster cars, but I haven't driven anything as satisfying as the S2000.
I have been looking at S2K and have always loved this car! But my wife wants the CTR so its going to be a toss up of what we get next....will have to go test drive both and make are design from there
Late to the video, but I'd say absolutely yes the s2000 is worth purchasing in 2020. I think your advice is great as far as setting the budget in the high teens to sub 20s. Paying anything under and you're going to be adopting a lot of years of neglect, not a problem if one intends to rebuild or turn into a dedicated track car. Anything over and you're now looking at collector money, not a problem if $$ isn't a problem to the buyer. Prices are increasing and in the later half of 2020 they have seemed to escalate even faster. Examples one could have bought for $15k 8-12 months ago are now going to go for $18-20k. I picked up a decently clean 04 with 88k for $17k about a month ago. Rougher and higher mileage s2000's in California were going for $20k.
Lots of good insights presented here Fenton. You've inspired a lot of thought, so bear with me only if you dare, lol. You really nailed the reasoning behind my own S2K purchase. After doing a ton of research on these cars, knowing that in my case that the car would be kept completely stock, I came to the exact same conclusion that you did. I specifically targeted the 2004-2005 AP2v1 cars as a result. It took me a little while to find exactly what I wanted. But patience ended up being my friend as I located an incredible 2005 car being offered by a fantastic seller (the value of which should never be diminished). The car was in minty condition and all-original featuring my favorite color combo of Grand Prix White over black/tan with 24K miles. This was in 2017 and I paid $21.5K for the car back then. I'll admit to being surprised and not exactly pleased at what an equivalent example would sell for today (more on that below). As someone who does not track my S2000 but who does manage to enjoy spirited drives on twisty stretches of backroad I really love this car and have never looked back since buying my S. Nor have I ever wished for a different variation of the car. That's not intended as a knock on the AP1 cars or the 2006+ AP2 cars. There are no doubt other S2000 owners out there whose own needs are better met by these other variations. Developing an understanding of how the car will be used in conjunction with any specific preferences that a buyer might have seems to be the key here. That said, had I ended up an AP1 car or a later AP2 car I don't doubt that I would still manage to find more happiness with any variation of the S2000 than with any other comparable sports cars. As if there even are any other sports cars comparable to the S2000 for the same kind of money, The reality for me is that they don't exist, regardless of the cost involved, at least not based upon the factors of why these cars appeal so much to me personally. (I don't place nearly as much importance on 0-60 times as some guys do.) However, I also realize that the S2000 just isn't the answer for some people. Unlike the Miata, the fans of which like to say "is always the answer", I wouldn't make the same claim regarding the S2000, it being a more focused and intense car. I don't have a problem with the Miata by the way and would actually recommend to some friends over the S2000. When it comes to the S2000, I would be more comfortable making the claim that "for some, the S2000 is the only answer". However, I am the odd man out when it comes to the value of these cars. Other S2K owners love watching the value of these cars go up year after year. I instead think about the kind of impact this will have on me as someone with no interest in selling my S2000 (I'll likely hang on to it until I can no longer get in and out of the thing). I feel that the constantly appreciating values of the cars will only serve to drive up the cost of parts at a faster rate than normal. In addition, whereas thieves might have predominantly targeted the seats in these cars early on, with the values escalating, stealing the car itself likely begins to make more sense. While my S2000 is a weekend car and is kept in a garage when not in use I still have my concerns regarding this issue. For this reason I have a guaranteed value policy on the car through Hagerty Insurance and would recommend this to any S2000 owner that qualifies for such a policy. I track the values of these cars primarily to ensure that I'm covered for the true value of the car in the market today. One final point. While some prefer the hard top (as is evident by the prices being paid for OEM examples), the fact that the S2000 is convertible is a big part of my attraction to this car. For me when it comes to driving, nothing beats top-down motoring. It offers certain unique visceral elements to my road going experience that not even my motorcycle can provide (and vice versa to be fair). As always, I enjoy your videos, and this one was no exception. Be they S2000-focused or not you always manage to offer some interesting insights. But to be totally honest, I'll admit that I do look forward to seeing you in a S2000 once again.
VirtualGuth Hardtop was a hefty cost new where I live in the world. They’re made of alloy and are very light. I agree that top down is great in the s2k but having a roof makes it a year-round proposition as my daily. Also if the values of the cars keep going up then hardtop should will continue too, possibly at a greater rate. Honda to their credit have kept quite reasonable prices on spares however some parts have fallen away from production. The 20th anniversary effort on the spare part front recently will no doubt bring some of these back.
@@peejayem4700 While you obviously can daily one of these cars, I personally would not want to do so. But then my very first car was a Triumph Spitfire and I'll admit that I managed to daily that car year-round in Illinois (without any sort of hard top). In my case it was a blend of youthful enthusiasm, a lack of wisdom, and of course limited funds that made this possible, lol. I'm not exactly holding my breathe on the 20th Anniversary spare parts program. I don't doubt that Honda will follow through with the program, but seeing that the website associated with the program was in Japanese only, I'm not sure when or if this program will make it to countries outside of Japan. If it does, hardtops would likely be included and surely at a price that will be much less than what people are paying today. I personally listed out essentials like the rubber bits that degrade strictly with time while sitting in the garage irrespective of use. (If you don't already do so, make sure that you stay on top of treating your weatherstripping, and other various seals, molded rubber hoses, etc. with Honda's Shin-Etsu grease.)
Nicely put, top down is really where this car is at. With the roof up it’s dark limited view at traffic lights and is pretty noisy. I own an 2001 European model as it’s a car that will put a smile on your face, more than driving my mk4 TT Supra when I had it. it’s a fun car that’s reliable. Like you I’m not selling it, hope to pass on to my sons in the meantime it’s my job to mind it.
Sounds like the prices are strong in the US. Here in the U.K. 12 months ago I paid £12,500 for a 2005 S2K 39k miles, full Honda history and a stock car 👌🏻
I have had my 05 model for 3yrs now, drive it in the pacific northwest, lots of curves an cliffs, best leave some tracks to show em which side an where you went off the road if you do,all stock,an nothing but fun, then i get into my 81 Mercedes w123 240d,the S2000 lets me move about the insane world as i please, can't drive it 3 times without a complement, likewise the 240d, S2000 rules
I was lucky to pick up one owner CR with 9k miles for $27k 6 yrs ago. Now with 13k miles ive been offered over $40k for my car. Planning to keep it until they release another real S model in the states.
I have been daily driving my ap1 for 5 years. It’s the best daily drive I have ever owned. So much fun, passion, energy. I bought mine back in 2015 for $16k it had 70k miles on the clock and now I’m at 145k miles. Do I think the s2000 is worth buying in 2020? Yes. I think it’s worth buying regardless of the year. This is now my 2nd s2000 and is my daily commuter, my backup fun car is a 1956 Volkswagen. That is not something you wanna drive everyday. To me, the s2000 has all the creature comforts you could ever want in a daily drivers car. Power windows, air conditioning, heat, leather seats, convertible top, power steering and brakes, great horsepower, great handling which makes for fun daily driving. I’m not bored when I drive my car, when I drive something boring like a civic it just sucks. My opinion take it for what it’s worth.
Great video. Purchased my 2005 s2k back in 2012. It had 34,xxx miles and got it for $18k. Still have it til this day and have about 77,xxx miles. Been going back and forth with selling it, but this video just made me want to keep mine.
I paid 13,200 for my 02 BB w/ full red interior with 78k(give or take) back in 09. I have a had few cars over the years, and i have always owned 1 honda concurrently with any other car i owned. Sometimes 2 hondas at once, and it is bc they last, they are easy to maintain and parts are available. They have not lost value, but have gone up. Private sale prices seem to be all over the place. I am looking for an Ap2, and am bummed I will be paying anout 4 or 5 grand more for same mileaage, 11 or so years later...BUT, the smile these cars put on your face is worth it. I hate how VTEC got played out thruout the years but these cars with test pipe and a good exhaust, wide open throttle and the top down...Oh man, it's glorious. IMO, the only other car that comes close to the rawness, is the ITR, WOT in that car is something every driver should experience.
Picked up an 08 S2000 back in February for a cheap track car (tires are expensive on the ZR1 and 3RS lol) and can honestly say it's my favorite of the bunch to take out to the track. Far from the fastest, but just so much fun. Cannot recommend an S2000 highly enough.
Great video.. based in the UK we purchased a 16k mile AP1 S2K last year. Coming up to 20 years old. Not sure whether the UK prices will get to the same level as US. I hope so, seems values are very mileage dependent..
1st: 00 s2k 16k miles daily driver 2nd: 04 s2k 42k miles summer car 3rd: 00 s2k 13k miles: my weekend car in summer I love it no matter what ppl say. I’m 38 now and still haven’t found a replacement for the feel of the s2k
I've been seriously considering an AP2 S2000 as a replacement to my 02 DC5 Type S that you actually sold me on as my daily driver 5 years ago. I recently started restoring a FC RX7 GTUs, which is my weekend car, and the enjoyment you get out of driving a little sportscar around is just something you don't get out of most cars. I've never driven an S2000 before, but I'm assuming the drivetrain feeling would be quite similar to the K20 in my DC5, but matched to a much better chassis and with an FR layout?
My mother have a GT4 and a S2k (I bought for her as a present) and she absolutely love the S2k. Since then the S2K have gotten up in value. Ours is a mint 40,000km ap2, canadian car :) great video btw
In the end, a lot of us don't have tons of expendable funds for a sports car so we need something reliable. IMO, the S2000 wins because it's a Honda. As much as I would like to drive mine everywhere, it does attract a lot of attention.
My only gripe about the s2000 is it was my first sports car and now it too much fun to sell. I am scared of the disappointment on getting anything else. I would like to get with less miles I am at 90000.
If u use your s2000 to drive to work 100 miles everyday like me it doesn't matter I daily mine to work because my job is the reason I was able to buy my Honda happily
Bought my 06 NFR 2 years ago with 44k miles from the original owner for $19,000. The OEM hardtop was ridiculously expensive though to source one relatively close by. I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences with this car, don’t plan on getting rid of her for a long long time.
you're right about it being a theft magnet alright...got my soft top slashed and broken into the first week i got the car while parked at my work/office garage...
As mentioned in the video, this car probably wouldn’t make a good everyday driver but makes an exceptionally great weekend driver. If you want the most fun for the dollar, this is it. If 20K is too much for you buy one with higher miles, it’s still a Honda and properly maintained will go MANY miles.
I put Rockford Fosgate door speakers, and a Bluetooth connection through the cigarette lighter (ac converter) to play Spotify thru the radio. Also, I have been daily driving my 2003 suzuka blue S2000 from 33,000 miles to 88,000 miles now. Four years later. It's 4x more refined than a NA Miata. 2x more refined than a NB Miata and 25% less refined than a Cayman S. I like how we've had all the same cars and know so much about car markets.
I am an original owner of a 2006 Honda S2000, Fire Engine Red and garaged. Almost never driven in rain and only light snow once. The fun factor never ceases when driving this car. I have also read on another forum that stock versions of this car with reasonable or lower mileage are fetching ridiculous amounts because they appeal to track racers who want to modify them....
I love my 2005 S2000 I bought it 5 years ago and paid $14,000 with 132,000 miles on it. My wife loves riding her Harley and I enjoy my Harley as well but the Honda is my first choice the Harley is second. Great car. I don't drive it in the winter I store it. Its only December and I can't wait for spring to get it out again.
I had a 2005 S2000. The car was good but had the gear pop out and just didn't like how the rear would easily kick out.(more of a grip driver) so I traded it for a Lotus Exige S. Much better grip car.
I'm really craving a proper sports car as a second car, my Civic Si cant run away from its bland, commuter car roots anymore. At first I was thinking RX8, that chassis is such a bargain right now, but it will blow up and make you sad. Then I started thinking NC Miata, very cheap like the RX8, but very reliable. For the fun of it I decided to check out S2000s, and the first one I saw was a CR listed for $60k and decided to keep shopping for Miatas.
I actually cross shopped the S2K and C5 Z06, at the time either would have been my only car, I went with the C5Z due to it being the much more practicle of the two from a stock stand point performance wise, space wise, and mpg. Still love my Z06 but will always have a solft spot for the S2K
@@Zygrene bascially the same chassis, but the C6Z for sure is a different experience, but I once you do a few choice mods, I think you would love the value you get out of a C5
I found a 2008 in TN, and the price was dropping... I put a deposit down and drove there to see it, it had 76k miles and was in pristine condition except for the top, all stickered body panels, once they realized the mistake they made it was too late. It was in my garage, I'm keeping it.
No longer can you buy an S2000 for 20k that has less than 100k miles. They are selling for 35k+. However it's still an amazing car to own and drive!!! So buy one!!!
I purchased a 17 124 Spider Abarth for $19,000. Got the Recaro seats, brembo brakes, Bose system, White with the black, Veleno package, LSD, 6 speed turbo, LED Headlights. For an extra $3,000. You can have a Stage 2 build. And it will turn everyone's head, Not just the JDM fan boy's. One more thing mine is already going up in value due to demand of a manual. Thank You for the video. I was in the market for an S2000. But I didn't want one with sooo many miles and dogged out. My 2017 only had 24,000. Miles and you can get it serviced under warranty at any Dodge, Chrysler Jeep. Thanks again
So considering the current prices of S2000s, will they drop a bit more? Some with about 50-70k miles are about 25k rn and it seems decent. This car is hard to gauge when to buy
really liked your perspective in this video, love someone who's been tracking the market for a while and really has good taste with trackable cars. I have a 08 135i and it's a lot of car for the money but there are underlying reliability issues with the n54 that i'll need to address eventually. i was looking for a lower power driver's car to replace it, and s2000 has been in my eyes for a minute. I have a question for you -- with the rising prices of the s2000, do you feel like there are alternative import cars that are comparable? i'm specifically thinking of the mr2-s, especially after watching the spirit mr2-s dominate in best motoring touge. i'm also looking at civic ek and eg hatches. it's just that a lot of these cars are set up poorly and it's been hard for me to find a proper car with a proper setup.
Thanks for the comment! S2000 is still my driver's car of choice in the sub $20k range if you don't care too much about daily drivability. I love the MR2 Spyder but only with a 2ZZ swap. Stock 1ZZ is gutless and bland. I've never driven an EK or EG. Heard they're amazing but I'm a die-hard RWD fan.
I just have the retainer value replaced on my AP1 at 200,000km and it feels more solid and easier to get RPM up. Luckily no major repairs yet, not even the clutch needs replacing.
I got my 2004 S2000 for 18.5K, 326XX miles, in 2018. Get em, hold em, and enjoy them while you can because they will only appreciate now. They've hit the bottom of their depreciation curve and are now poised to skyrocket.
I could have sworn you said you wouldn't do another S2000 video ;D I'm just teasing haha. There was a point in my life where S2000s were still at a low point like 8-10 years ago and I could have picked an up an AP2 at my budget but I waited too long and they just went up from there and exited my price range. Still lament it. I'm not a collector type person either so I'll always idolize the S2000 from afar but I'm more likely to pick a used ND2 in a few years
Watching this a year later, now that s2000’s are averaging close to 30,000
I should have taken my own advice and picked up an s2k or three lol
I’ve owned my Silverstone ‘04 since July of 2012. 97K on the odometer. All stock plus factory hardtop.
I have an ‘07 bone stock, less than $15k miles. It’s the most fun you can have on 4 wheels!

These are great cars as more and more get trashed and inventory becomes low prices will go up in my opinion
They’ve already gone up over the past 5 years or so

How in the world for 10k how many miles does it have? I've been looking and the cheapest in ok condition is 15k.

Where'd you buy it?
how did you buy it?
Seems like a really good deal for such low mileage. Congrats
Definitely a future classic...if it isn't already rapidly becoming one
It's August 2023 now and they've gone up a lot. If you own one don't sell it as you'll never be able to replace it.

You must not have test drive one.
@@z32luvr I've driven both several times.
Safety and amenities? An s2000 is not for you...its pretty much a go kart
@@REALISTIKGIAN Yep. I said it's not for me.
If you want amenities and safety, this ain’t the car haha
Ive been wanting to buy an S2000 for many months now. I've saved up to buy a 2007 with very low mileage. I've always loved the car since seeing the S2k in the first fast and furious movie. They want 21k and I'm probably gunna buy it cash for 19k.
I hope it goes well and when you have cash in hand people typically will settle for that price. Good luck!
It was always my dream to purchase one, and when I graduated college and found a job I finally made that dream come true, I found a MY00 with 54k for 15k all stock, I don’t think I’ll ever sell it and I’m super happy with having the AP1 granted I daily a 03 CL-S 6MT
What job, out of curiosity lol
Dsole 1217 It was a manufacturing engineering role, since I went to school for mechanical engineering
Just installed and ap2 engine and transmission on my ap1. Torque is nice in city driving, but will miss the 9k redline.
Yeah man 9k is where its at.
If your ap1 is 2000 or 2001 you are set. Those Ecu ran rich and since the f22c is more like a 21.5 cc you won’t have running issues. Just remember not to exceed 8.5 K revs because the piston speeds become too much beyond that.
RolanTHUNDER there’s bikes for that
AP2 more reliable
100%
My remapped M140i would destroy most supercars from 20 years ago, but I'd still love an E39 M5.
The miata also wont help you get laid.
Wow
@@justincruz8352 if you have a Miata you’ll get laid by the younger crowd.
Oh its absolutely a great purchase now and in the future too. Nothing compares to an S2000 or ever will. Its truly unique and special in every way. My personal favorite is the AP1 :)
You gotta get another S2000 soon Zygrene!
We love it!
I bought a 2003 AP1 with 16,000 miles in 2011 for $19,000. It looked brand new then, almost brand new now with almost 35,000 on it. Drives great!
Hey man I cross shopped my current s2000 with a new Nissan Versa needless to say I got the s2000
Wow you messed up bad 🙃
That Versa is 500 pounds lighter and with more linear torque delivery. Big mistake.
you got ripped off.
Paid about 20k for car two years ago with under 30k on it. 1 owner.LA car. Some scratches but overall very nice.
Great points, and awesome video as always! I'll keep my MY01 until I die.
Tax wise , here in Europe , the S2000 is much better option than the other cars your mentioned. V6 engines cars cost an average of 4000€ to register and 1000€ per year in "road taxes". Other viable options would be MX5 or GT86 but they are too mainstream compared to S2000.
A Yellow CR went for like $75-80K on BaT recently. Insane!
That is nutty. Just a matter of time before a mint CR goes for 100k
@@Zygrene Yup. It's cool to see, but I'm like you - I wanna drive the damn thing. I'll keep my 120K mile AP1 until it blows up and I don't think it'll be any time soon.
Upgrade to ap2 retainers and banjo bolts and you're golden!
@@Zygrene did you do ap2 retainers on your ap1 before it blew. How much di that run you?
Great review, wwll put together and presented. I just put a deposit on a red 2004 S2000 with 79,000 kilometers on the odometer. Taking it home next week.
i had mine 6 yrs now, im 66yrs old still love mine, its 2002 ap1,,,,
I’ve got an 02 Silverstone on full red with ~32 k on it that I’ve had for almost two years.
But my wife wants the CTR so its going to be a toss up of what we get next....will have to go test drive both and make are design from there
Im trying to enjoy the video but those brakes are driving me insane, lmao!!$
LMFAO FAX!!!
Car fax
They're racing brakes, nothing wrong with them.
hard to find one with low mileage here in SoCal so I bought a brand new ND2 RF with 180hp up to 7500 RPM so I think its a perfect match for an ap2
It’s better lol s2000 is over hyped and over price
Nice to hear as I have 2 s2k's, one has only 1,400 miles on it
Late to the video, but I'd say absolutely yes the s2000 is worth purchasing in 2020.
Man... that s2k with the ce28s looks perfect! What are the Volk wheel specs?
17x9.5 +50
Sounds like the prices are strong in the US. Here in the U.K. 12 months ago I paid £12,500 for a 2005 S2K 39k miles, full Honda history and a stock car 👌🏻
I wonder what will happen when the US can import them eventually ?
I have had my 05 model for 3yrs now, drive it in the pacific northwest, lots of curves an cliffs, best leave some tracks to show em which side an where you went off the road if you do,all stock,an nothing but fun, then i get into my 81 Mercedes w123 240d,the S2000 lets me move about the insane world as i please, can't drive it 3 times without a complement, likewise the 240d, S2000 rules
The average price for a clean model imo is about 20k. Snagged mine for 15k with sticky brakes, some paint damage, and an Invidia exhaust
I love the Honda S2000, the look, the engine and a roadster, what else could you want. Really like the look of the original AP1.
I just want a 2020 s2000. Someone tell Honda to make one
I was lucky to pick up one owner CR with 9k miles for $27k 6 yrs ago. Now with 13k miles ive been offered over $40k for my car. Planning to keep it until they release another real S model in the states.
Just out of curiosity, how many other sports cars do you own and of which one do you find that you drive the most?
I drive a 2007 s2000 ap1 in the nederlands so it has the facelift en updates wit the ap1 9000 rpm engine its the best of both worlds.
Love it.
Dammit I want one but will have to save up for a year to buy one. Idk if it’ll even be worth it anymore lol..
Trust me.. It will be worth it!
It’s worth it, do it.
Not worth it for the price. Over hyped and over priced.
Great video.. based in the UK we purchased a 16k mile AP1 S2K last year. Coming up to 20 years old. Not sure whether the UK prices will get to the same level as US. I hope so, seems values are very mileage dependent..
1st: 00 s2k 16k miles daily driver
2nd: 04 s2k 42k miles summer car
3rd: 00 s2k 13k miles: my weekend car in summer
I love it no matter what ppl say. I’m 38 now and still haven’t found a replacement for the feel of the s2k
i did 2018 lexus lc 500
Love mine 10k miles and growing!
Picking up a mint ap1 with 86k miles, for 14k today
you're right about it being a theft magnet alright...got my soft top slashed and broken into the first week i got the car while parked at my work/office garage...
Ya hate to see it 😔
Sorry to hear that bud
As mentioned in the video, this car probably wouldn’t make a good everyday driver but makes an exceptionally great weekend driver. If you want the most fun for the dollar, this is it. If 20K is too much for you buy one with higher miles, it’s still a Honda and properly maintained will go MANY miles.
Good point. Even 15k can still fetch a clean example with higher miles.
Thank you for the video. S2000 s are fun to drive!! Driving down PCH during the summer is the best.....
I've had my ap1 for just about a year now, and I love it. I get excited Everytime I get behind the wheel. I'm definitely glad I chose to pick one up.
Picking up at 2004 s2000 this week more than likely, 83k miles for 22k. Has a hard top, suspension upgrades.
Damn those brakes killed the whole video
Ye wtf
Bought my second in 2022. 2003 SBlue 24Kmi for 37.5$. Carbon fiber top to match. I’d do it again and again! She is mint!
S2000s and E46 M3s are both very steadily going up in Europe... (also sadly :-[ )
Got mine in 2019 AP1 with 280k for 5k only thing it needed was a clutch
I love my 2005 S2000 I bought it 5 years ago and paid $14,000 with 132,000 miles on it. My wife loves riding her Harley and I enjoy my Harley as well but the Honda is my first choice the Harley is second. Great car. I don't drive it in the winter I store it. Its only December and I can't wait for spring to get it out again.
just got my first s2000 about 2 months ago. 04 suzuka blue with 64k. by far the best and most fun car ive ever owned/drove
I had a
2005 S2000. The car was good but had the gear pop out and just didn't like how the rear would easily kick out.(more of a grip driver) so I traded it for a Lotus Exige S. Much better grip car.
Price will go up in 2024 when the newer version comes out :)
special & timeless car, but if you are in the market for one now, get ready to fork it over
I'm really craving a proper sports car as a second car, my Civic Si cant run away from its bland, commuter car roots anymore.
Why are you shopping for a CR? You can get a decent S2000 for around $18K.
I probably paid too much for my S2K but it was love at first sight. Laguna pearl blue 2007 with 47k miles bone stock.
I am currently finding a honda s2000 today for $7k lol clean title and it does not need to be perfect cause I will definitely learn to fix it myself.
Sounds like you'll be getting quite an education. Good luck!
I actually cross shopped the S2K and C5 Z06, at the time either would have been my only car, I went with the C5Z due to it being the much more practicle of the two from a stock stand point performance wise, space wise, and mpg. Still love my Z06 but will always have a solft spot for the S2K
I've had my eye on C5Zs for a couple years now. Seems like a lot of car for $15-20k. Wonder how it compares to the couple of C6Zs I've driven.
@@Zygrene bascially the same chassis, but the C6Z for sure is a different experience, but I once you do a few choice mods, I think you would love the value you get out of a C5
Besides the newer FType Jags, I feel like the S2000 is the most beautiful car ever built.
C5Z06 is another good buy right now
I purchased a 17 124 Spider Abarth for $19,000.
How did you find the suspension? I noted that they're the SBG long-stroke Ohlins.
sold my first 02 6 years ago... about to pull the trigger to remedy that poor decision.
Just got me 0ne in 2021 and love it!
I got a 02 SB S2000 for $15.5k with 56k miles and stock plus upgrades (wheels, sound systems, side skirts and bumpers)
The water marks on the side window played havoc with my car cleaning ocd.
I’ll make sure to dry them better next time :(
Just bought a 06 LBP for 23K w 100k miles. Totally worth it and will continue to appreciate substantially in the next 5-10 years. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I could have sworn you said you wouldn't do another S2000 video ;D
I'm just teasing haha. There was a point in my life where S2000s were still at a low point like 8-10 years ago and I could have picked an up an AP2 at my budget but I waited too long and they just went up from there and exited my price range. Still lament it. I'm not a collector type person either so I'll always idolize the S2000 from afar but I'm more likely to pick a used ND2 in a few years
I am notorious for breaking promises. ND2 doesn't have VTEC.
@@Zygrene truth. If Honda made a new n/a Vtec sports car, I'd be legit willing to into debt for it lol
Im thinking about buying an 06 s2k with 88k miles for 12k🤔 does it seem like a steal?
