    The non-giggles "And Your Bird Can Sing" outtake is actually on the Anthology DVD - they isolated the giggles to a channel separate from the music in 5.1, so I was able to record it clean and burn a cd 15+ years ago. Nice to know that it's getting wider release and on a cd finally.
    Not having the Atmos or 5.1 of the album in the boxed set this time is (IMO) a mistake.

      I'd also heard the giggle-free version on some bootleg I have at home, I can't think of the name of the compilation, but I'm also glad it's out in the box set now, it'll be better mixed and engineered.

    Thank you Mitch'n'Rob. Really enjoyed hearing the chat, and your questions to Giles Martin. (Dig those crazy comments eh? Mine should hopefully come in right next to Marc Bolan. This is indeed an honor. I thought he was dead. And how about that long one. Calm down old chap!)
    Giles resembles his father and sounds a bit like him too, which is reassuring: these projects are in good hands.
    Eclectic is a very good word for Revolver.
    For me, both Love You To and Yellow Submarine fit right into that scheme. I'm sensing you don't go for Ringo singing "kiddie songs". Your loss. Aren't they also for the kiddie in all of us? Wasn't Octopus's Garden one of the standout tracks on Abbey Road? It was for me.
    In fact the Beatles taught us range before we even knew it, from the start. My first experience of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, American mainstream musicals and American girl groups was from when the Beatles covered their songs. On Revolver, you have a taste of classical, Indian, psychedelic, rock guitar... and it all fits.
    Thanks guys, and best wishes.

    19:40 - At first I thought it was a joke item, for Yellow Submarine to start off as a sad song, but I think that's going to be the first thing I listen to when I get the set next month. One question I have, and I know this is really reaching, but with the original lyrics being "In the town where I was born, no one cared, no one cared", I'm wondering if the quiet section of Yellow Submarine in Pepperland on the soundtrack albuim copped the melody from what Lennon was originally composing. That string section is very sad and it brings tears to my eyes the same as the string section of Nowhere Man when Jeremy is initially left to himself after the song. Just a thought.

    From all the press it feels like we needed the invention of this Peter Jackson technology in order for a remix of Revolver to be possible but remixes of some Revolver songs were made for the Yellow Submarine Songtrack album in the 90's!
    Also, with Sgt Pepper, Giles Martin was able to go back to the pre bounced down tapes. Were these pre bounce recordings not available for Revolver? That would seem strange as both Revolver and Sgt Pepper were recorded using four track technology!

    Great interview, fellas! Great to hear from Giles about it especially. 👍
    I only wish you would've asked more about the mono mix though, as there still seems to be some debate, despite being confirmed by Miles, etc, whether or not the mono LP is in fact AAA/analog. Also, many are curious how they went about that process exactly.. Did they use the actual OG mono master tape? Or did they copy it and use that "backup", duplicate tape in order to have all those lacquers cut & copies of the mono LP pressed. Lastly, (not that he would probably know), but how many vinyl copies were pressed of that mono LP? That would answer a lot, whether or not they made a dupe tape, as I can't imagine them running the OG mono master tape 1000's of times in order to press that LP. Just curious! 🙂

And Paul says" Fah" instead of "Four", just like "I Saw her Standing There". It's been said Paul does the scream which sounds like "go" right after the countdown.And George has the thickest "brogue" type accent from Liverpool, for lack of a better term.

    I have always been skeptical of Giles reasons of not being able to remix the early albums because instruments were ‘flattened’ onto one track. Firstly he has wonderful isolations from many early songs on the Love album. How did he do those? Secondly let me give you a hypothetical example. Suppose on take 4 of Taxman the Beatles recorded guitars on Track 1, Bass on Track 2 and Drums on Track 3. Then they mixed all these onto one track and called it Take 5. Then they added Tambourine,Vocals and lead guitar. So Giles is saying on Take 5 the guitars all flattened onto one track. However why can’t he go back to a take 4 which was the source of the final Take 5 and has each instrument isolated. Finally there are several amateur RUclipsrs who have excellent isolations of the early Beatles albums. Like John’s isolated guitar on All My Loving or Paul’s Bass on This Boy.

    • @secretmessagesaroundthewor504

      If they could mix the Yellow Submarine soundtrack in 1999 which, by the way, has early Beatle material, what Giles Martin said about no having the technology to remix early Beatles records make no sense.

      Funnily enough, Take 4 of Taxman was originally supposed to be on Anthology 2, and it would've been cool to hear that here, like Take 1 of And Your Bird Can Sing, but whatre ya gonna do?

    • @buddygripple7512

      Because the multitracks of most Revolver songs have the rhythm track confined to just one track. Most of the reduction mixes made were 4 to 3 as opposed to 4 to 1 like on the post Penny Lane material, so they really don't have much to work with there, either. Taxman's pre reduction multi has the rhythm track on one track, two tracks of George's lead and John and Paul's backing vocals, and the tambourine, lead guitar overdubs, and "anybody got a bit of money" vocals. The reduction mix has the two vocal tracks combined and in the newly emptied track they overdubbed the cowbell and the "Mr. Wilson" vocals.

    For Giles to say a new mono mix would sound the same as the original mono mix makes no sense. If he can make the drums in Got To Get You Into My Life louder in the new stereo mix, he can make them louder in a new mono mix.

    • @ThisBirdHasFlown
      @ThisBirdHasFlown 2 года назад

      True, although roughly 3 people on this planet would be interested in a mono mix.

    • @fab4free4all20
      @fab4free4all20  2 года назад +3

      Tony here. I think the stress on the new technology has a lot to do with being able to 'space' the instruments far more effectively in a stereo/multi-channel spectrum. IMHO, making the drums 'louder' in a mono mix would always be at the expense of hearing something else as clearly. Mono mixes, while I love them, are, by their nature, 'crowded'. Louder drums in a well-spaced stereo mix means that your ears can focus on them... or not. But in a mono mix making even a subtle shift in one instrument's levels effects the balance of everything.

I'm a huge fan like everybody else, but what kills me are these people that can't wait for these remixes to come out just to crap on them. I mean I'm seeing it all over the place. Yes I did b**** about good morning good morning on the pepper remix that was way too loud and a couple things on the White Album but this thing is not even out yet and people are already nitpicking. To a lot of them I've already said then don't buy it. If I hear one more time the 66 version is just fine or the 2009 version is just fine well okay then don't buy it the 22 mix. To me, SO much depends on how much compression will be added to the CD. The surround versions are all perfect sounding. The remixed White Album CDs are perfect. But the Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road CDs were way over compressed (to sound LOUD).

    Ironically, how can a purist complain about this re issue when they should be listening to the mono mixes to start with 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦. I welcome these box sets for improved stereo sound. The original stereo often has bad edits, drowned out sound effects, and hard panning vocals/drums. The whole catalogue deserves this treatment. Now, we can properly listen to Day Tripper in proper stereo sound!

    • @jnagarya519
      @jnagarya519 2 года назад

      INFORM yourself: read George Martin's _All You Need is Ears_. It is NOT "panning"; the standard was to record ALL music to one track, and ALL vocals to the other track -- that's why the "hole in the middle" -- THEN MIX the two tracks as MONO because the market was MONO, and the promotional medium, radio, was MONO.

    • @girlswanted7
      @girlswanted7 2 года назад

      @@jnagarya519 I understand that, but the Beatles music deserves more. I didn’t think Day Tripper was a good song in stereo. Once, I heard the mono version with the drums and
      vocals in the center I was shocked by the power and beauty of the song. Not only that but Paul’s voice didn’t have an echo. In stereo it sounds silly. Can you really disagree that certain songs just don’t sound right on the original stereo? Also, the newer generation just won’t get that type of odd stereo. For those of you that want the original stereo you can also listen to your original vinyl copy.

    • @jnagarya519
      @jnagarya519 2 года назад

      @@girlswanted7 I've preferred mono since I began buying records in 1962-63 because most of the "stereo" of the period was FAKE.
      I've made that point, with an example ("The young Rascals") and how the mono has focus, punch, that stereo does not.
      The first "Beatles" LP I bought in stereo (side two was FAKE stereo "mixes" of the singles) was "Magical Mystery Tour". All before that were mono, and I still have "Something New" and "Sgt. Pepper's" in first-release mono.

    • @girlswanted7
      @girlswanted7 2 года назад

      @@jnagarya519 I was blown away by some of those mono mixes. Sgt. Pepper in mono is fantastic. That being said mono sound especially today can be limiting. That is why I enjoy the new stereo mixes. As long at they don’t add vocals, music, or sound effects (Love Remix) I’m okay with making the music on the analog tape sound as good as possible. Plus it’s George Martins son doing the mixes with Paul’s (Ringo, Ono, Olivia) approval.

    • @jnagarya519
