The best way to think of the nen hexagon is by focusing on Enhancer as a base and how each other category differs from it. Enhancing is basic nen, using the aura around you to strengthen yourself and your abilities. Moving to either side is a change of how you use your aura. Going to Emitter you take your aura, that was once only used close to your body, and project it outwards, often shooting as an attack. Manipulation then takes that a step further and you then take your projected aura and put it into an object or another person. On the other side you have Transmutation. Changing the properties of your aura, like Hisoka's bungee-gum and texture surprise. Making his aura sticky and rubbery or changing its appearance. Taking THAT a step further you have Conjuration. Changing the properties of your nen to such a degree that you can create objects out of your aura. Specialist then, is the farthest from "natural enhancing" doing completely unique things with aura that often times literally no others can do.

I object to the idea of Goku being too fussy about making friends with a murderer. Goku decided to spare Vegeta just because he wanted to fight him again, and Vegeta's kill count is... well... several orders of magnitude bigger than Killua's.
There's also, you know, the fact that Goku himself is a killer. Granted all of the people he's killed are A, supernatural/alien murders, B, thinly veiled Nazi expys. I love the fact that Editor-san is using clips from the 1999 anime as well as the 2011, it remembers us that it was a pretty solid show and in some instances better than 2011 (especially at the start, the 2011 is so heavy on censorship in the first like 20-30 episodes it hurts)
the hunter exam arc of the original drags a bit. With that said, some of its episodes far outclass the newer HxH. Heavens arena I feel is way better in the old one. York New I prefer the newer version but the direction and filler of the OG added a lot of atmosphere. Overall I think HxH deserves both adaptations and both are great watches

I don't know about the 1999 anime but for the 2011 anime it's revealed that the reason Gon got barley any points was because the ref wanted to end the match quickly because he was being wary of the power gap between Gon and Hisoka and didn't want Gon to get hurt.
Togashi creates these amazing, life-like characters, after that the story writes itself. That seems to be Togashi's method of writing and I absolutely love it.
Pointing out the detail of the duo's choice in attire during Heaven's Arena, coupled with their hair color, and based on future events, makes me think of Gon/Killua in terms of Yin/Yang.

Can’t wait till he gets to Yorknew city my personal favorite arc of the series. You just see the whole series evolve and you didn’t realize and yet it feels so natural.
To possibly explain why Killua has never been exposed to Nen: In fitting with Killua's character he, as a child, most likely made it to where he could go to the 200th floor, said "welp, I did it." Turned right around, and went home without exploring the 200th floor because that's not what he was told to do.
My thoughts exactly. As for how he recognized his Grandpa's Nen ability I just chalk it up to flubbed writing (especially with his health as bad as it was as he continued). A strange thing to say given what ends up happening during the 3rd act of the Arc.

Thank you so much for giving the 1999 adaptation and the manga the praise and attention they deserve! I grew up watching the 1999 version, and while I definitely enjoyed the 2011 series, I think the 1999 version just embodies the noir and edginess of 90s, less-censored anime era in a very cool way, on top of the amazing choreography and VERY memorable sound track! I'd never get tired of it!
@@samatar6852 having watched both, I still think the 1999 verizon is darker aesthetically. If it had been able to get to the Chimera ant arc, which hadn't even been finished by then, I'm sure it would have been at least comparable in blood and violence!
I have heard that the reason the early portion of 2011’s adaptation has some toning down of the violence is because of time slot concerns and that starting around Yorknew it got moved to a later time slot which allowed for more violence and blood to be shown.
It was moved to a different time slot from episode 99, so on Chimera Ant. Previous time slot was Sunday morning and they switched to... 1:30 AM at Wednesday. You could think the budget for the episodes shrunk with such a change, but surprisingly you could even say the animation improved from this point, because of episoodes like 116, 126, 131 or 135.
Reading the manga, I really was astonished at how smoothly the arcs move into each other and set up future arcs. Yorknew City is set up right before the Heaven's Arena arc, so the HA arc becomes a vehicle for the YC arc. And next week, Mark will see the YC arc becoming a vehicle for a future, FUTURE arc! It feels like Togashi isn't just improvising and coming up with new trouble for the heroes to face after one arc is done. Having a clear agenda set up makes it much less convenient or unlucky how Gon and friends get into these adventures. By the way, Mark, fun fact: in the manga and 2011 versions, the handsome co-commentator in the Gon vs Hisoka fight is the main character from Togashi's mystery manga, Level-E. And in the 1999, the dog mask-wearing man is supposed to be Togashi himself, as he often represents himself through that dog icon and his wife, Naoto Takeuchi (mangaka of Sailor Moon) with a rabbit in the intersections between chapters in the manga.
So glad your doing this series ive been watching it blind on and off for about a year and am half way through the chimera ant arc.Your in for a hell of a ride!
One thing I really like about HxH and nen is that they don't give Gon some unheard of, secret 7th nen category, or even make him some kind of specialist, they literally give him the most basic and most common nen type
not really that common, it is the more simple, it is even implyied that a lot of nen users wanted to have this kind of nen, probably because it has a higher ceiling and offers both attack and defense
I think Luffy and Gon are similar in a lot of ways, at least more so than Luffy and Goku. Gon is more serious and is more complex, biased and smart in a tactical sense while Luffy tends to be much more simple and and smart but in a more emotional sense. Luffy does what he wants and is while Gon tries to do what's best for his friends and allies. I think their differences are most clear was when they lost someone close to them (Kite and Ace). Luffy experienced grief while Gon experiences rage and hatred.
So glad the first video showed up on my recommendations! HxH was the first anime I ever watched, and it's my absolute favorite. Excited to follow your journey through this amazing story ☺️

Specialist then, is the farthest from "natural enhancing" doing completely unique things with aura that often times literally no others can do.
probably the best explanation of nen ngl

I object to the idea of Goku being too fussy about making friends with a murderer. Goku decided to spare Vegeta just because he wanted to fight him again, and Vegeta's kill count is... well... several orders of magnitude bigger than Killua's.
There's also, you know, the fact that Goku himself is a killer. Granted all of the people he's killed are A, supernatural/alien murders, B, thinly veiled Nazi expys.
But I think it's in the specific example that Mark brings up that matters here. Goku would absolutely not approve of the killing of the dude that did not want to hurt or fight a child.
@@DarkIceKrabby Goku wouldn't approve, but he wouldn't chastise him too much given they're still fighters. Whenever someone unnecessarily kills even an enemy Goku wags his finger, like when Vegeta killed the Ginyu Force. He felt more strongly about Majin Vegeta nuking a town but evem then he still got over it and immediately forgave Vegeta when he came to his senses.
Killing one person would just upset Goku long enough until he got hungry, then he'd forget about it. He's a Saiyan and a hick, kind hearted or not he just doesn't let things bother him, maybe because he's a simpleton.

I guess thats where some of the hxh overhyping comes from, people just saying, "gawd damnn it looks just so cool", its like that idk what its called again that god of highschool, just random fights with good animation, atleast gon vs hisoka was more than just good animation but i wont really ever get the people who value the cool visuals of the fight wayyy more than what the fight is even about, like netero vs meruem, ive looked around and there are some intresting things going on in the fight but its nothing really too insane, but somehow i see people saying this is like earth shattering and revelotinized anime as a whole and was created by god itself and like HOLD UP wtf are you talking about? did we watch the same fight? so i just wont really ever understand people who put a lot of value into "this fight LOOKS cool"

To possibly explain why Killua has never been exposed to Nen:
In fitting with Killua's character he, as a child, most likely made it to where he could go to the 200th floor, said "welp, I did it." Turned right around, and went home without exploring the 200th floor because that's not what he was told to do.
My thoughts exactly. As for how he recognized his Grandpa's Nen ability I just chalk it up to flubbed writing (especially with his health as bad as it was as he continued). A strange thing to say given what ends up happening during the 3rd act of the Arc.

I finished hxh today after starting with you. Last Thursday a true masterpiece
damn that must have been a binge watch/read
How many boxes of tissue did the Chimera Ant arc put you through?
Thanks Mark for reviewing all of my fav shows and sharing my love for them!

Luffy does what he wants and is while Gon tries to do what's best for his friends and allies. I think their differences are most clear was when they lost someone close to them (Kite and Ace).
