Thank you. Just remember that nautilus now replaces sml helper. I made a new video that covers everything including shaders etc: ruclips.net/video/Xgvj67HdxIE/видео.html
The reason they include the folder is because when two folders in windows have the same name, they merge their files. All you have to do is drop the BepInEx folder of the mod into Subnautica's folder, and the mod will be put in the correct folder instantly. (Which also helps with telling people what folders files go in). I believe that's also why Vortex support works, because all it has to do is locate the subnautica directory, put the files in, and they're already in the right folder without any additional struggles.

@5:56 They set the folders up like that so all you have to do is drop the contents of the zip into the game's root folder, instead of having to navigate through your BepInEx folder.
they do this only because nexus mod manager extract mod directly in the game root folder without checking the name and extension of the files or when the mod use the other BepInEx folder or need it own custom folder
@@cameleon2mur80 yeah, exactly. For simplicity's sake. This way, whether you use NMM, or do it manually, it all just goes in the root folder. Quicker than having to move back and forth through your game folder if you're installing a heap of mods with content that goes in different folders.

if you are here and wondering why your BepinEX will not work with the newest update of BepinEX its because the new filed DOES NOT have the required files do just download and older version but not too old
I'm not sure if it's an issue with an updated BepInEx Pack or what, but when I throw in the pack files into my Subnautica folder and go into BepInEx, there's the plugins folder as expected but there's already a file in it called "Tobey" and that has a bunch of stuff inside it. So it's not empty like yours and when I throw all the other plugins in there... nothing happens. I see the terminal window open up generating all the programs I've thrown in there like in your video at 5:26 but F5 doesn't work and I don't have an option for mods in the options. But like I said, my BepInEx Pack plugins folder isn't empty like yours was when starting out.

@@leviathankraken Hey thanks for all your help even with reaching out on an individual basis. You don't have to recommend anything else, but I just wanted to close the loop on what else I tried. I followed your advice and tried doing the submodica version. It definitely had different files in it and made me hopeful. I was able to get the plugin file to appear after starting subnautica and then added the other plugin files. I had some one else asking about instructions for mac but sadly I've never owned one. The process should be very similar I'd imagine. Please let me know if you get it to work
I was already making a little text guide on your previous video on the subject not realizing this came out! But I'll leave it here too. Huge thanks to Leviathan Kraken! For those having trouble with Bepinex and Mod Installation, here are some guidelines: 1. Read the Mod Author's instructions carefully. Goes without saying, but needs to be said. 2. As stated in the video, Bepinex doesn't make the plugins or its other subdirectory folders until you launch the game at least once. Recommend starting the game and quitting during cutscene, as opposed to just idling at the Main Menu. The "Plugins" folder referred to several times below, is in "Subnautica/Bepinex/Plugins", NOT the Plugins in the default "Subnautica/Data/Plugins" folder. 3. Mod authors package mods in different ways, therefore, using automated installation such as Vortex, isn't recommended. Best to stick to manually installing, but don't fret, it's not as scary as it seems. 4. Using a tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip, you should be able to preview the contents of a manually downloaded archive, prior to unzipping/extracting it. 5. You will generally extract the archive, one folder back from what you see in the preview. -Example 1: You preview and see the name of the mod i.e. "EasyCraft" or "Slot Extender". You would copy/paste the archive and extract it in your "Plugins" folder, or alternatively, extract it elsewhere, and copy/paste the contents into your "Plugins" folder, with the same result. -Example 2: You preview and see folder named "Plugins". You would copy/paste the archive into your "Bepinex" folder and extract there, or alternatively extract it elsewhere and copy/paste the contents into your "Bepinex" folder, with the same result. -Example 3 (Rare): You preview the archive and see a "Bepinex" folder inside. You would Copy/Paste the archive into your "Subnautica" folder and extract there, or alternatively, extract elsewhere and copy/paste the contents into your "Subnautica" Folder, same result. These are some few and far between unique instances (such as when installing Bepinex itself, Snap Builder, Bepinex Configuration, Medkit Hotkey). This is usually clearly stated, which brings us back to the beginning. 7. Read the Mod Author's instructions carefully. Yes, repeated for emphasis. With some practice, you'll quickly learn to identify where the Mod goes by peeking inside the archive, but here's a quick summary based on the folder you see inside the archive: Archive Folder Called "" --> Extract in "Plugins" Archive Folder Called "Plugins" --> Extract in "Bepinex" Archive Folder Called "Bepinex" --> Extract in "Subnautica" You can also drill down into the mod folder and just get the contents, like Leviathan does in the video and get them all straight into "Plugins", but I personally find it easier to just extract where it goes. His method takes more clicking, but will result in a cleaner game folder. All of these folders are normally found in DriveName>Program Files (x86)>Steam>SteamApps>Common> , barring some weird custom installation location. Disclaimer: For the few mods listed by name in the examples, the installation path is correct as of time of writing, but the authors may change the packaging in the future to standardize installation. Always refer to the author's instructions. Hope that helps!
@@leviathankraken Sort of, it won't always be straight to Plugins, but this is in my opinion the quicker way to install without having to dig through the individual mod's directories. You just kinda sneak preview and dump it where it goes. I wish the authors standardized their packing structure though. Either way, you can end up with the same clean-looking installation as if you dug through each mod by deleting the zipped archives afterwards, leaving behind only the stuff that was placed in Plugins. I have like 40ish mods going and I've run into no issues so far installing straight to respective folder like I described above.
I dont know what files to put in the plugins folder. Should i put in the folder with the modname that contains a few files and mods? or should i put the actuall .dll files in the plugins folder
just a question, this video is older so i dont expect it to be answered, but in my subnautica folder, i dont have a doorstop config like the one shown at 5:11, do i need to do something to get it?
I wouldn't worry about it as long as the mods work. But you can try downloading bepinex from a different source if it isn't working there's submodica.xyz or nexus mods
If you have 2.0 mods currently installed and want to play the legacy mods instead then yeah go ahead and delete your mods, delete bepinex and then proceed to downgrade as in the video

Hey I know this is video is a year old and I’m not sure if there’s much anyone can do but for me it isn’t working a couple things different I saw was one that at some point in the beplnex plugins there was a folder titled “Tobey” and I didn’t see it in your plugins folder so I deleted it which was probably a stupid idea (I did try it with and without the folder both times it didn’t work) a couple of the things needed for mods did seem to change like the sml helper mainly in which it now has 2 folders and the one you downloaded states that it will be removed when “nautilus 1.0 releases and the other one being for the legacy version which I’m not sure which one I have but I got it off of steam (I forgot to state this earlier but I did everything you did and the F5 part didn’t work) it’s fine if there is no fix I can try to find other ways this is mainly to notify you and see if there is any hope
I have a more up to date video here but even this one is slightly out of date. ruclips.net/video/Xgvj67HdxIE/видео.html Sml helper is a thing of the past and replaced with nautilus. Plus bepinex no longer does the black pop up screen thing. And just be sure to download an older version of terrain patcher if you choose to use that mod

With some practice, you'll quickly learn to identify where the Mod goes by peeking inside the archive, but here's a quick summary based on the folder you see inside the archive:
Archive Folder Called "" --> Extract in "Plugins"
Archive Folder Called "Plugins" --> Extract in "Bepinex"
Archive Folder Called "Bepinex" --> Extract in "Subnautica"
You can also drill down into the mod folder and just get the contents, like Leviathan does in the video and get them all straight into "Plugins", but I personally find it easier to just extract where it goes.
So even if extract the download into plugins without opening the extra folders the mods sometimes come with it'll still work?
@@leviathankraken Sort of, it won't always be straight to Plugins, but this is in my opinion the quicker way to install without having to dig through the individual mod's directories. You just kinda sneak preview and dump it where it goes. I wish the authors standardized their packing structure though. Either way, you can end up with the same clean-looking installation as if you dug through each mod by deleting the zipped archives afterwards, leaving behind only the stuff that was placed in Plugins.
I have like 40ish mods going and I've run into no issues so far installing straight to respective folder like I described above.
my bepinex config menu wont open up and when I open the game the bepinex window has error messages
But you can try downloading bepinex from a different source if it isn't working there's submodica.xyz or nexus mods
our names are similar also thanks for helping (my name kraqquens is just an alternate way of spelling krakens)
4:31 skip ahead if you already know how to download things from the internet without a tutorial, and didn't come here for babble.
great video thanks for the help. One question: do the legs still have collision? lmao
Nope. Base leg removal is a full removal lol
some mods require qmod manager, but it's available for legacy, and I'm using 2.0, what should I do?
Here ya go: ruclips.net/video/I63-HdMbcQo/видео.html
so i will remove all the mods in the game, install the legacy, and do what is shown in this video, right?@@leviathankraken
If you have 2.0 mods currently installed and want to play the legacy mods instead then yeah go ahead and delete your mods, delete bepinex and then proceed to downgrade as in the video
can i install mods that require QMod Manager while playing the Living Large version? cuz i dont want play legacy version@@leviathankraken
@leonalayja5861 sadly no. It's ether one or the other
Hey Kracken can you do an updated video on how to mod Below Zero with nautilus instead? Thanks
Have you seem my how to mod below zero video? ruclips.net/video/5tDCWGWC9Es/видео.html
It should still be relevant. Nautilus replaces sml helper though
Use Nautilus instead of smlhelper if you're modding subnautica 2.0
Good video, thanks for the help
Mate I could kiss you
Thank you so much
Vortex wasn’t able to work anymore so this was a god send
Awesome thank you sir! Works great
thx bro, you helped me
Thanks for the information!
great video dude i just got one qouestio do i need confurigation mod???
Nah. It's mostly there to tweak settings on a couple of mods in particular but in most cases it's never really needed
I made it as far as 7:08 and I ran into an issue where a bunch of red and yellow text appears when BepinEx opens and none of my mods load at all.
Did you have qmods installed before? It needs to be deleted
I have a more up to date video here but even this one is slightly out of date. ruclips.net/video/Xgvj67HdxIE/видео.html
Sml helper is a thing of the past and replaced with nautilus. Plus bepinex no longer does the black pop up screen thing. And just be sure to download an older version of terrain patcher if you choose to use that mod
thanks g, love you. Cant believe how simple this was now I'm a professional modder. Also it sounded like there was a fish tank in the background, could I ask what fish?
Right now we're breeding fancy guppies in a 100gal, wanting to buy more rare breeds to get more into the hobby hardcore. Also red cherry shrimp in a 20gal another tank and I have a 55 saltwater in the other room with some clownfish and a shrimp :)
i know its 10 months ago, but i can try, what if i dont see the options to the mods in the game? aaaaand very helpful video, keep going man, good luck
Make sure that the mods you downloaded are for 2.0 and not legacy. If you don't see a mods tab then it's not working
Where would I put the Bepin Ex file on Mac? I installed it, but you only showed where it belonged on Windows.
Sadly I can't help you there. Never have owned a mac :(
Great Job My Guy!
Damn. I'm not sure what to do now since I use the Xbox app for Subnautica
Sadly I don't think that version is compatible
hey man at 4:45 i do not have that doorstop config file (i also tried reinstalling)
So its not working at all? I'm hearing a lot of people say this did you download it from submodica.xyz or nexus mods?
(you had SML helper in the Mods options btw)
Will you make a tutorial on how to mod with nitrox?
I really need to I honestly haven't tried it out yet probably best to wait til it's updated to 2.0
0:30 mah boy recording from the seamoth and thought he could pass it off as a mic glitch smh
lol wut? my mic is trash it sounds metallic sometimes it's so annoying
@@leviathankraken Just sounded like you were in a seamoth man no offense meant 😄
@@HerobrinesPizzaGuy lol I wish 🤣 those real life seamoths are awesome
it works perfectly, thanks
my friend can't see the resource under the water how to fix?
when the mic was bugging out you sounded like phone guy from fnaf 1 and 2
Lol yeah idk why that's been happening I probably need a new mic
YALL im here to tell u IT WORKS WITH THE XBOX VERSION just to let u know
U can't mod with xbox
I’m not talking abt Xbox it’s self im talking abt the Xbox app version on the pc u can mod that pls use ur brain
Finally it’s working I can mod
so i followed what you did and f5 dont work. is modding subnautica like modding the long drive and it has to have the steam path? because i got this game from a friend and was told all i had to do was unzip the game and play. the game itself works great just the modding part gets weird.
What should i do if i don't see subnautica in the common section?
Mine had a plugins folder already Inside it (bepinex folder) and when I click on it nothing happens.
did u get it figured out?
I press f5 and its not working, pls help!
Bro, please help me!
So is this the first time youve modded? Did it generate a plugins folder in the bepinex folder? What mods are you trying to run?
is there anything i can do if when i open subnautica data there is no bepinex folder
probably incorrect but i think when you delete a game it deletes the game files but not stuff you add like bepinex or other folders/files
I'm not sure lol but sometimes I know reinstalling helps when they're having issues.
The game does not start in vr for me, just starts in flatscreen. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!
check if u have mods in files I had that on windows steam and removing them fixed it all
It froze on epilepsy warning
Keep it up man
Just got back to playing subnautica this week, and I did all your steps in order too. But the SML Helper just doesn't work, tried the Nautilus one, doesn't also work
Nautilus is only required for some mods. Are you seeing mods tab show up in the subnautica menu? Make sure you download the 2.0 and latest version of SML. There's a legacy and 2.0 version
@@leviathankraken that's the problem. i tried SML first, as the video did, but no mods tab in the options menu showed up. so i tried Nautilus, didn't work also. Im doing everything right now. im not sure what's the problem
@@saintricardo8746 something must be interfering then. Is your subnautica steam version and up to date? Make sure that no antivirus programs or mod managers are changing anything. If all else fails delete subnautica and reinstall. Start over with the step by step and it should work
I am following the video perfectly and its really easy to follow along. But I am unable to get the f5 key to work. Did this happen for anyone else? if so how did you fix it? I am running windows 11
F5 is only if you have the configuration manager installed. If it isn't working you could try the one on nexus mods
No idea what happened. No mods are loading, i did everything according to the tutorial, yet nothing is either loading in-game or in the settings.
Try deleting sml helper and using only nautilus and see if that works
