Honestly I could see the cohort I was in loving this game. We did nerdy crap like watch action movies together to calculate how inaccurate explosions were
imagine if you're on the verge of defeating your enemy, chasing his king down with your army, and a bunch of queens suddenly appear from another timeline, overrun your pieces, and checkmate your king.
This has already happened
“You and what army”
“Captain, on your left”
My favourite thing I've done in this game so far is such: I was losing to the cpu as white but if I remember correctly I had the timeline creation advantage. But! I had a contingency plan. You see right at the start my opening move was to move my far left pawn forward. Why you may ask? Because I now I move my rock forward to touch this pawn. And send it all the way back to like the 2nd white move. I can't remember if I managed to checkmate before the present caught up to the future. But it was fucking hallirous how long that purple line was. I think the community calls this a "jurassic rock"
@@cogtheprotogen6671 El famoso jurassic rook
Now I finally understand what Jerome was thinking when he came up with this opening. People always said that if you just think 2 moves ahead you can refute the Jerome gambit, but Jerome was the only man who saw 3 dimensions ahead and found that the gambit was a forced win for white. The man was thinking in 5 dimensions when all us plebians at the time could only think in 2 dimensions. Truly ahead of his time.
Jerome is Love.

You did a great job explaining this. That doesn’t change the fact that I have no clue what is happening.
Thank you, but I can assure you given a little time everyone can grasp this game!
How to win: just stop thinking, play moves that look cool, and pretend you know what's happening
And then pretend not to be surprised when your queen, that has been sitting in the same spot for three turns, suddenly checkmates their king in another timeline.
thinking makes you think more and the more you think you started to overthink and become paranoid, that's never a good thing in both chess and 5d chess
What if the 3rd dimension is what lets knights jump over other pieces?
Wait, standard chess is 3d?
..always has been
@@LimeyLassen lol no that's 2d chess always has been
@@jerem18h You probably didn't understand what exactly they were talking about. The knight can jump over pieces in ordinary, standard chess. Which is obvious, considering that standard chess is real volumetric chess on a board, so it's not hard to imagine. And since the knight can jump over other pieces, it means that he simply goes to the third dimension to move. (Just as in reality, from where the chess was copied to the screen))
@@farresalt4381 I understood what the op meant, I wasn't replying to him I was replying to limey. But thanks
@@jerem18h ok
Me: You mean I was checkmated before my first move?
AI: Always have been.
"I'm talking to you live from the future and yesterday we're going to talk about..."
what is that sentence?
Time travel!
Finally, i can use the meme that goes like this
i am four parallel universes ahead of you
But seriously, i understand how it works, and if i understood it in a day, so can you (everyone)
”I HAVE CHECKMATED YOU IN 90 PARALLEL TIMELINES AND NEITHER OF US KNOW HOW”
I think a key factor is that checking a king in the past is a much stronger than checking a king in the present, because the present king can usually just time travel to escape, but a king in the past can't move, so you'd need to capture the checking piece or somehow block its path in the past.

for some reason e7/d6 is very dangerous with queen, I accidentally checkmated myself once with keeping a black queen there.
Problem isn't necessarily the queen's position, moreso the open spaces created in the past and not adequately covered. Thing with bishops and queens are, when travelling back in time, they can move one space per backwards move. So if you think backwards in terms of the backwards move, there are 3 variables to take into account...
1. When was the space first opened?
2. How many moves has it been since the space was opened?
3. Which space can your piece occupy to block a future attack?
Knowing those 3 variables, the only things to watch out and prepare for are knight attacks.
Yep, very easy, now I know how to break space and time irl using the tools provided by the micro verse inside of this game.
Then there's me in the corner struggling with checkers 😂
2:37 you missed mate in 4 here
You could have time-traveled back to f7 with the queen, then Kxf7 Qh5+ g6 Qf3 K ad lib. B+ the queen attacks the past king and cannot be captured. Also, because the AI zould be in spatial check as well, it couldn't timetravel from L+1. So it would be mate I think.
🤓
I had no interest in playing this game until I realised Jerome Gambit accepted is straight up mate.
Thanks man
oh! I've actually played this game enough to almost understand it! The goal is, as in most Chess games, to put the board into a state that no matter what move your opponent makes, he cannot prevent his King being captured on the next turn, or Checkmate. What's great about Multiverse Chess is that pieces can travel into the past, so you can set up a piece such that it threatens a King on a board that has already had both players make their move, meaning you can Checkmate a King in the past.
Example: 4:18 - The opponent can't make any move in the Present to protect both his Now King and the King in the past. Checkmate.
If a player sends a piece from the present into the past, however, you can't actually change the present board because of paradoxes, so to resolve that, a new timeline is created, and both players must play the "newest" timelines until they "catch up" to the "oldest" timeline, or the Present. This can create scenarios where pieces are constantly being sent into the past and creating an ever-increasing number of timelines just to avoid a King being captured in the Present, since the game only ends when a King is unavoidably Checkmated, and you can avoid a King being checkmated by creating new timelines that must be resolved first, giving you a chance to Mate before you get Mated, get it?
But in addition to traveling backwards in time, pieces can also move across timelines. This means that RT is actually WRONG about the opponent being unable to win with the board at 0:30, as he can use a piece from that timeline to attack his King in a separate timeline. That's why there's view modes that show the boards standing up next to each other, so you can see the lines of attack possible.
From that point you just need to know how the pieces move across time and timeline, and most of them are pretty simple, if you take Time to being another Direction to move a piece in. For example, the Rook can move in ONE DIRECTION ONLY any number of spaces, be it Up, Down, Left, Right, or Parallel Time (so he can go as far into the past as he likes so long as there's no piece in his way, i.e. another piece that takes up the space he's on in the Present at any point between Now and Back Then). The Bishop can move in TẆ̵̥̺́͒́͑̏̌͝O DIRECTIONS, so long as both directions are the same number of spaces, so he can move diagonally once, e.g. Up one and Left one, or Down one and Timeline one. This creates scenarios where a Bishop that you don'̷̨͉͇͖̗͖̙̰̙̝̉t immediately comprehend is attacking your King because he's three spaces Left from where your King was three Turns ago.
Once you resolve in your brạ̷̛̤̙̗͎͔̦̪͗̔͆̓͒̏̑̂in that Time is just another Direction chess pieces can take, you can pretty easily plot their movement rules just like a normal Chess game.
Except for the Queen I don't fucking know how the fuck quadrangles bullshit and the Pawn can En Passant across time or something idfk my first game went for 30 different timelines and I'm not sure I ever stopped playing cuz I played the game in the past and there's a possibility my opponent in the past has moved to create a new timeline that puts him at an advantage and I'm just waiting for that timeline to catch up to now and then suddenly I never stopped playing and I can't stop because even though I stopped in the past there's a timeline where I didn't so Ì̶̛͇̤̥̠͗̐'̶̨̗͇̖̹͙̱̻͙͍̮͖͉̞͐̍ͅm̴̪̫̯̣̱̽͋͒͐͆͘͠ ̷̡̛͙̬͚̬͖̱̍͗͛̊̔̑͛͊̚̕̕͘ä̸͚̥̿͗̂̽̂̈̀͐̄͂̚ͅl̴̺̬̘̗̮̮̬̯̐̊̌̍͂̈́͘ẉ̴̪͉͉͗͊̓͛̀̽̈́̄̔̚ͅá̵̧̡̛͔͔̟͔͌̽̎̓̏̊̓̉̉̇̀͜y̶̧̛̪̝͉̺͉̻̟̼̥͕̯̲̦͊͊͊̂̈́̊̏̑̾̔̆͝s̴̨̨̢̡̧̖̭̜͍͎̲̮̰̔̈͋̒̀̀̕͝ ̵̢̲̭̬̟̥̝̜̟̫͓̽̆͐̓̒͌p̶̣̖͎̝͉̗̊͗͌̎͒͐̈́̔̚ļ̶̨̡͎̖̲͈̤͈̗͚͕̘͙͍̀a̴͎͇͛̒̍̓̓̈́̈́̕͝y̵͕̦̬̙̙̯͕̏͛i̵̫͐̌̽̎̉̍̑̂ņ̴̨͉͈̱̟̞̬͇̠͇͉͂͋͑͌̆̐͊͘͜͝g̸͙̤̖̦͂̀̄̋̑̀̽̆̀̚̕̕ ̸͚̤̰̀͗̈́̈́͌̋͒̑͝à̶̢̠͎̅̋̔̅̔͗ļ̴̛̗͚̲̠̼̙̹̙̜̒̓͋͂̀̑̊w̶̫̞̬͎̬̺̽̇a̵̡̢̫̋̓́͆͌̿̿͆͌̇͗ỳ̵̜̰̻̹͕̯̥̒͒̇̓̈͗̚̚s̵̨̀̃̿̃̀́̒̓͋͌͝ ̵̗̰̜͈̹͚͍̯͓͎͈̮̼͉̒̀̔͊ͅp̶̢͔̟͍͇͑̑̊͗̐̄̔̐͆̾̒̋͆͝͠ḻ̵̨̥̺̹̖̙͈̪͖͊̑̌̑̑̏̉͜͝͝͝ͅḁ̴̡̡̧̤̤̳̘̫͌͗̇̃ỵ̶̛̦̩̥̟̩̻̓̅̃͌͐͗͛̈́i̸͉̠͔̞̳̠̬͈̝̓̈̃͑̃̄̅̐̈́̉̓͆͠͠͝ͅn̷̘̮͛̏͐̾̃͆̓g̸̨̤̲̮̼̠̯͓͚̈ ̴̯̞̙̹͔͓̦̯͚͎͇̫͐̍̍́̐̉͜͝͠͝ṗ̸̢̖͈͓͇͇͇͍̙̲̮a̶͔̖͉̪̟̖̪̮̥͋̄͗̈́̎̈́͊͜͠w̸̱̫͈̬͛̅̽̏͌́n̷͚̱͍̲͂̎͂̋͌̂̇̽̓͊̍̿͊͑ ̵̞̝͎̟̠̲̲̒͂̍͛̒͗̊̕͝ͅt̷͖̙͚͉̂̂̓̂̒̀̿̒̇̿̋̚̚ö̴̢̝̭̳́̐̆̀̐̈́̋͑̀̋̏̌͝ ̴̜͐͗̌͌̂̇̑̔̌͊̔͝g̴̨̛͎̔͑͑̑͆͌͊͐̋̐͂̕7̴̢̨͙͈̹̬̮͚͓͎͈̖̑̚ ̷̮̼̉͒̓̍k̴͎̲̔̏̿̒͂͗͊͐̄́́̓̕͝͠į̴̣͚͈̳̳͈̪̝̝̘̝̥̅̈́͋̑̓̒̉̅̊̃͆̆͑̄͜͠n̸̢̺̰̻̯͔͎̻̜̠̾g̸̝͍̙͍̠̀̍͊͆͗̏̒̓̾̓ ̶̧̺͖̠̜̃ͅt̸͖̝̯̺́͊̍̍̓̑̾͠ǫ̴̹̘͈̹͙̗̜̫͍̆̏̐̆̋͑͌͋̈́̇̒͝ ̷̧̯̦̪̥̥̻͙̪̹̲͇͇̿̈̈́̍ḧ̷̺͖́̅̍9̶̛̪̭̼̠̯͈͗̓̓̀̇̃̕͠ ̷̢̲͈̲̼͉̈͋̾̀͗̄f̸̡̢̤͉̻͖̟̦͖͓́̓͌̃́̇̂͐͛̌͜͝͠o̶̢͇̠͚̅̉͂̎̓̎̋͑͛͋́͘͝u̸̟̳̞̳͖̿̆ͅr̷̤̯̫̫͗ͅ ̸̨̛͕̤͓̮̳̤͑̓̀̿̆́͝ţ̴̢̧̲̰͍͈̖̹͖͇̣̭̫̲͂͐͊͐͗̕ư̸̡̜̲̞̯̌̉̈͂̌͜r̸̻͉̀̌̄͌͛̾̒̈̃͑̒̂̑͝ņ̷̻̝̐̎͒́͌̈́́̾̚͘͘͝s̶̹̮͉̭̙̭̹̣͇̻̈̅ ̸͓̝̠̀̅̋̓̔̚̚̕a̸̩̭̖̗̩̜͒̽̀̿̈́̓̓̌͂͘͝g̵͎͚̪͎̭̤̳̝̓͑͐̈́̈́̆̏͒́̏͐̈ͅọ̴̈́͌̽̓̃͋́̌͒̂̆͝͠ ̸̧̰̥̤̭̩̯̋̍́͆͑̄̀͌̐͘͝͝q̵̛̲́͋u̷̧̢͚͍̳͉̟͔̫̲̭̣͕̍͒͛̔͜e̵̱̐͐̒̒̐͑̎̑͋̀̈́̀ẹ̴̫̫̪͋̍̾͂̓n̷̨̻̱̱̟̺̂͂̎̈͒̒̿͗̕ ̷̨̢̦͙̓̊f̸̧̺̎r̵̰̓̌͂̅̓̑̾͝ȏ̵̩͖͖̳̬̲̎m̶̘͇̫̪̺̹̜̂́̀̋̌̊̐̕ ̵̡̢̧̛̖͚̙̝̲̯̭̪͉̯̺̿̽́́̎́̑͜͝t̷̨̧̟̜͓̗̪̘̮͔͉̹̯̘̾̔̆́̀̈̿͑̑̍̈̽͘͘͝h̶̫̦̞̒̽̌̀̂͗̄̾́̎̋̉̕r̶͙̗̜̪̹̞͇̠̋͜͜ę̶̳͍̼̙̻̤͔̹͈͓͓͙̐̔̐͋̍̑̒e̶̢͍̯̺̭̺̘͈̣̅̓̏͐͑͛̑̀ ̵͚͙̙͕̼̞̖̪̹̳̪̞̱̘̭̃̈́͆̀̇̄͆̂͒̓t̶͖̠̼̟̎̓̄͗̈́̆̍̓̕i̶̢̛͙̝͊̚ḿ̵̢̗̮͉̭́̋ͅͅe̶̱͔͈͂̓ͅl̵̮̫͚̝̜̲̗̟̯̯̺̝͂͌̈i̸̖̤̗̺̫̋̈́͜͠͠ņ̷̞̰̬̤̼̰̟̺̈̇̍͐̈́͌̔̒̓̾̔͑͝e̸̡̪͎͇̼͎̬͗̅̀͆̂̾͊̎͘͜͜͠s̶̢͚̬̟̺̮̜̟̙̥̻͒͜ ̶̺̪̯̑͒͝ơ̷̧͖̟͓͙̺̥̝̣̞̗̔̈́̆͆̎̃̆̽͝ͅv̸̲̪̬͙̱̬̞̰̩͕̹͋͐̊ͅe̴̢̢̻̖͈͓̪̫͎͍̙͓̗͙̹̎͂̇̐̂͒̈́̌̆̓̋̉̕͠r̶̛͓̳̥͚͚͍͂͑̋͐̓̾̉̓̀͜ ̴̢͔̲̞̠̟̂̍̀̕͝ͅt̴̯̮͇̪̝́̊̚͠o̸͎̞̲̹̝̬͍͙͚̯̕ ̶̰̣̣̝̲̰̖̆̆a̶̠̯͖͈͕̠̞̞͍͕͖̓̆͗̑̌̃͑͘͝͝l̴̨̹͚̳͇̭̦͓͓̝̏p̴̢̧̪̫̙̭̀h̵̨̨̛͉͖̭̞̼̣̥̘̲̳̫̖̫̀̄̀͒̀̽ā̸̩̦̮͍̠̎̍̉͌͑̀͑͊͜ ̷̨̡̗̜̠̳͇̻̞̮̦̙̺͑t̵̨͔̰̮̗̥̙̻̒͒͒̈̐̂͒̈́͐͝͝i̸̖͍̞̱̣͓̦̫͊̐̓m̸̘̥̻͕͓̖͍̙̞̄̈̂̑̓̌͑͌͘̕ȩ̸̮̬̘̇̆́́͋͐͛ļ̸̛̛̻͙̭͗̋͌̅͑̄̎̕̕͜i̷̢̼̺̞̜̜̱̹͉͇͈̼̙̿̅͂̋̋͌̆ṋ̴͇̞̖̏ë̸̛̹̲͎̗̅͊͑̈͝ ̵̯̱̏̓͛́͆̐̎̍͗̓̚͝d̶͈͍̟̠̗͕͙̰̳̫̀̅̿́̿̄͛6̸̡̧̛̤͎͙̤̝̳͎̲̞͛́̑͆̉̆͌̑̄

Jurassic rook is an option if you live long enough
So the f-pawn is an even bigger weak point than in regular chess, and what are essentially variants of Scholar's Mate are a massive threat.
Its crazy to think ppl played e4 in 5d chess then ppl stoped bc of the f7 sac but then it got played again with the atonal opening
I barely know how normal chess works. This just hurts my head.
I know you can't let your side piece meet your true love, but how do you play 5d chess?
I can hardly one at chess my brain will explode
3:37 "the only thing this AI is gonna be calculating is how to get a good devorce lawyer" huh?
So after 10 hours of experimentation and multiple video watches (I created a few of my own) this rule is new to me about the king in check cannot time travel, but this makes sense as in regular chess the king can’t castle while in check.
Well, otherwise a game could theoretically go on forever. Just jump your king back anytime you're in check.
I have always thought of games this complicated before, but I don't know how to code and program stuff so I can't do it. Plus, even if I learn how to create games, I know that most won't understand how games like these are played, and I have many other game ideas that is easily understandable by other people, so this kind of game isn't in the priority.
I need more than 5head to be able to plan a queen attack that literally checks in 4 different ways.
5:05 HOW CAN THE BISHOP MOVE HORIZONTALLY I DO NOT UNDERSTANG
This is really interesting
Isn't this technically 4D Chess? Since the game board is only 2D?
yes, but 4d chess is already a different game.
I every timeline the black king could go on d8. How is it check mate if the king as a legal move in every dimention?
The past cannot be altered, meaning that black already made his move on the earlier boards and thus cannot move the king out of the way!
JEROME IS BACK
He never left
looks like back to the future but chess.
Correction: Avengers: Endgame and Terminator 2 but chess. ;-)
So when can I expect 5D Shogi and/or 5D Regimental Chess?
Is Giuoco Piano like unavoiable loss for Black? I didn't check every move but if Black doesn't recapture the B@f7 and goes 4... Ke7/Kf8, Ng5 defending the bishop is mate. Oh man, I love this game
I was actually surprised to find out that this game (at least against the AI) is a lot easier than people make it seem.
That said, most of the fun of this game is playing the OTHER game modes / boards, because like you mentioned the balance is all off between the different pieces.
Not to mention the new pieces like Brawns and Dragons.
One thing I absolutely can’t stand is that this isn’t actually 5D chess, it’s 4D chess.
The chessboard is 2D. Time is the third dimension. Parallel timelines are the fourth dimension. The fifth dimension is wherever we are, able to observe all boards at once, but it’s not part of the game.
It’s the same as how a standard chessboard is 2D but we are three dimensional, so we can see the whole board at once. That doesn’t make it 3D chess!
Well don't forget about travelling across alternate dimension lol.
Gregorian M.G that’s still just 4D
@@GregorianMG traveling across the alternate dimension IS the fourth one.
Dimensions:
1. Chessboard x-axis
2. Chessboard y-axis
3. Time (such as traveling back in time)
4. Multiple timeline (AKA traveling to other dimensions)
there are four dimensions, not five. Even the rules say that the fifth dimension is unused. Well, if it's unused, its not a 5D game. It's a 4D game.
Buut the third spacial dimension is used to simulate the 4th and 5th dimensions because human minds can't comprehend that kinda stuff yknow
@@goshawk6153 yes, but that dimension is used just as much to view a chessboard in regular chess, but regular chess is not considered 3D! The game is using a projection from the fifth dimension, but the game itself is four dimensional.

Why can't you push the g pawn to g6 to defend the king?
It's checkmate in the past!
@@SexyLexi but if the pawn blocks the queen in the present so king must be defended in the present but only be undefended in the past...
If black pushes the pawn it passes the turn over to white. Since the white queen would then be able to go through g6-f7 on the boards where it isn't yet blocked and capture the king in the past (which is illegal) the game ends after qh5#
Hope this helps a little!

Isnt that just 2d+time chess
2 spatial dimensions, 2 temporal dimensions... But people are used to thinking of the z axis as the third dimension (a third Spatial dimension, unused here) and 4d chess is already a rather different thing, so they calked it 5D on the basis that the 4D/5D argument/confusions was less of a problem than the issues with calling it 4D chess.
@@laurencefraser ah i see, thanks for the explanation, but whats the second temporal dimension? Isnt time taken as one even if you can go both ways?
@@zxkredo I think calling the second non-spatial dimension "temporal" is a bit misleading since the 4th dimension is not moving to the past or the future, but to a different timeline altogether.

This still doesnt make any sense at all
If it helps, think of time and moving across timelines as just another axis for movement. For example, a rook can move in one direction/axis until it hits the edge of the board or another peice. In 5d chess, that direction can be back in time, or across timelines.
Similarly, you can break down the movement of other peices. A bishop moves along 2 directions equally. A knight moves 2 spaces in one direction, 1 in another.
