Ironically enough the optimal play stylr in 5d chess is to just play normal chess, as using the time travel mechanic makes you more vulnerable

False, you want to target kings in the past so even if you play linearly you can checkmate retroactively

But if you have an advantage in the curent time, you can send your pices back to snowball the advantage. And also if you are loseing you can send a pice back in time to put presure the enemy in a way that he has to move the pice that is checking your king back in tine to stop you... ALSO if you lose an important pice like a qeen you can creat a new time line , try to keep your qeen until the end present and then check your oponent with a new qeen that came from nowhere

Still in the same plane, it's just the equivalent of adding extra squares in the x or y axis.

@@bestaround3323 I imagine that the way it works is this instead then. X Y and Z would count as normal axis (I know this is a 2d board but I'll be using the 3 dimensional axis as normal chess takes place on a flat board with pieces that aren't flat). After that a fourth axis is added in the form of time, and then a fifth axix by running the 4 dimensional games alongside eachother.
So in a simplified way, you got 3d (X Y Z), then you got 4d where you have an added axis, and then a fifth axis which is parallel 4 dimensional games.
My wording may have gotten convoluted but that's the way I imagine the definition of 5d making any sense, even though the game itself makes little sense due to how complicated it is for me to even comprehend haha.

@@Owgla they don't move in the 3rd axis, and in the online versions all the pieces are 2D anyway, so either way your original argument is moot. 3D chess you have three chessboards, stacked on top of eachother, look it up.

I simply mean that when it comes to real life chess boards with the 3d pieces they're constructed in 3 dimensions.
However, of course as you say that isn't the case in onlinr chess.
My point was simply to explain how the only way for this to be considered 5d chess it'd need to be thought of as if the boards were in a 3d environment like normal chess boards. (Which they aren't as you said, but it makes for an interesting thought experiment)

The amount of dimensions is still only four. The fourth dimension is the first temporal dimension if and only if there are three spatial dimensions, which is true in our world but not in this game.

No, there are only two spatial dimensions in this game, therefore time is the third dimension and the multiverse is the fourth. Time is the fourth dimension if and only if there are exactly three spatial dimensions, which there aren’t in this game.
