Being an avid chess player Go has always fascinated me but I had never taken the time to understand the game mostly because it has always been portrayed as a deeply strategic and complicated game. It's rather impressive that in a few minutes you were able to help me understand the basic concept of the game; and while I understand there are much deeper nuances to this game I feel considerably less daunted by it now. Well done.
You know as they say about Go - a few minutes to learn, a lifetime to master. There's no need to put all that lifetime wisdom into a few first minutes, that's for sure =)

I've been a Go player for 20 years since 3, and now I'm trying to introduce Go to my friends. I think it's the best and clearest series for a green hand I've ever met!
Beautifully done video! The best I've seen. Incredible animations, good angles of photography, you stick to the essentials and you're obviously very prepared and don't go "um" all the time or interject with irrelevant comments. Very professional. I'm very impressed!
This is the first video I've seen on how to play Go that actually explains everything well without leaving me with more unanswered questions. I'll have to watch the next one now!
Having watched the documentary Alpha Go at least a dozen times, I needed a quick tutorial on the basics of the game. Found this video. What a fantastic presentation! 7 delightful minutes, building our knowledge step by step with clarity and humor. This is exactly how teaching should be done. Thank you!
I've been playing for a day, and watched several RUclips videos on it as well as tutorials within the app, and by far this is the best explanation yet!
What I like about his videos is that his videos ain't boring, he sounds entertaining and has cute animations so I'm learning while enjoying at the same time
Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to learn this game off and on for years. This is the best tutorial for beginners I've encountered. The small board is never used in other demonstrations.
I thank you for this crash course on Go. I love games of strategy like Chess and Sequence, so this one is a good strategy game in a different sort of way. The game of Go brings to mind the Battle of Dyrrhachium in 48 BC, where Caesar's legions built a wall to trap Pompey Magnus against the sea. Pompey's men also built a wall to try and enclose Caesar's men, and it was a race of whose wall could trap the other first, much like Go. Caesar's men trapped Pompey, cutting off access to fresh water and Pompey was up against the clock. Sure, Caesar lost that battle and had to regroup where he ultimately won that civil war one month later at the Battle of Pharsalus to make up for that, but if the Battle of Dyrrhachium was a game of Go, Caesar would have won.
These lessons are great. I’ve always wanted to learn Go and maybe now I finally will. One suggestion: it would be really helpful if you added sequential numbers to the videos' titles to make it easier to watch them in order. Thanks!

Thanks for making this video. I watched Hikaru no Go a decade ago and always considered picking up the game but figured it was too complex but you've made it seem much more accessible.
Very well done indeed! I especially liked the various animations - they livened up the topic and keeps the viewer engaged (yes, we are all goldfish :)). The one point I think the video can improve upon: Summarize the rules (or the talking points) at the end in a short list. This way the viewer can see everything at once and even write them down in a concise way.
You're right! If we ever make a one-video-covers-all RUclips version we'll summarize the rules. But this video is the first in the series. Rules summary comes in video 3.
