I know her name is all over the show, but I honestly think Leslie Headland has nothing to do with the show. If you watch her interviews, it's obvious she doesn't know what's happening on the Acolyte and a lot of times ends up contradicting what is told on the show. I wouldn't be surprised if this was written by someone else or by a committee of people and all Leslie's doing is taking credit for the show.
Ok, I'm trying to wrap my head around this, so let's see: primary showrunner Headland, a married lesbian, writes a show about a cult of women who want nothing to do with men, not even for the purposes of reproduction... Yet, they're so desperate to procreate that they're willing to use an apparent abberation in the force, along with some kind of dark magic, to artificially create offspring to be indoctrinated in their cult, and the cycle continues... Wait, how did they procreate BEFORE Mae and Osha..? Were they the very first children created in this way? Or have they been doing it for a long time? And how did they learn how to do it? Was it successful the very first time? Or were there a bunch of deformed failed attempts, maybe in big jars of formaldehyde in the sub-basement...?! Furthermore, Headland talks about the moral ambiguity of the Jedi, and seems to believe the lesbian space witches are at least on a moral even ground with the Jedi. The Jedi. A group of warrior monks, who devote their ENTIRE lives to learning discipline, self-control, mastery of the Force, conditioning their bodies to become super capable warriors, and more importantly, devoting themselves completely to following the light side of the Force; knowing there may be quicker gains through the dark side, but which are not worth the risk, so they preach ALWAYS FOLLOW THE LIGHT SIDE, even though it's often harder. And why do they do this? To be the KEEPERS OF PEACE AND JUSTICE in the Republic for A THOUSAND GENERATIONS..!! Whatever mistakes some of the Jedi might every make, whatever institutional corruptions may crop up over the THOUSAND generations of their tenure, pales in comparison to their selfless commitment to doing good. And Headland's attempts to debase them, to drag them down to the same moral relativism she applies to her other characters, is an insult, and again shows that she, and the other writers, have NO CLUE what they're doing. And speaking of that: Obi-Wan Kenobi... You have Ewen McGregor willing to reprise his role; you have Hayden Christiensen willing to reprise his role as Anakin. They both put in insane effort to train, to condition, they work together to re-establish the chemistry they had in the prequels, and what does Disney do? They give them a bunch of second-rate hack writers, force this horrendous and utterly unlikable character Reva on them, and then give them EXACTLY HALF THE MONEY THEY GAVE HEADLAND for her putrid and infantile production... Unbelievable. All I can assume is that Headland and her wife, the likely VERY well-paid green woman, along with all of Headland's other friends who got jobs in this production, are probably all enjoying brand new cars and remodeled kitchens and new wardrobes and if needed, long vacations at very exclusive resorts to console each other for how hated this show is... Ok, it's the middle of the night, my vision is blurry, the edible I took a couple hours ago is kicking my butt, so it's time to crash. To those who read this far, I'm truly sorry for writing such a long rambling rant! Trooper, excellent presentation as always!
Even with the "augmentation" of the force, all of the witches combined get unplugged by trinity, so the power of many isn't very strong. The whole plot was so convoluted. Then gaslighting the jedi by saying "I was going to let OSHA go" after attacking them was hilarious Also quigon didn't feel a NEED to make anakin HIS Palawan. He wanted anakin to be trained because of how important he felt anakin was. The council said they weren't going to train anakin so quigon said he would do it himself, eventually requesting Obi-Wan to do it because he wouldn't be able to. Sol just gives off groomer vibes which I guess makes sense coming from Leslie headland.
I’m black and all about diversity but when the diversity trumps the story I don’t want it. When we fought for diversity and inclusion this is not what anyone asked for or wanted.
I’m black as well and agree completely with this. My issue with Disney SW is lack of caring about story, characters lore and canon. But make no mistake. A lot of these anti woke types just don’t like diversity in Star Wars period. They wouldn’t care if it was first 6 seasons of Game of Thrones quality if it has to many of “the others” in it it’s a DEI case. Remember that.
@@Ues2DC bro, this is what happens when you bring in a whole bunch of people that have an agenda. I think a while back they allowed a few of these people come in and they slowly took over the entire thing …literally did a revenge of the sith to us. Lol it’s crazy.
It’s as if they think “I have non-white leads. Now I don’t have to worry about coherent story.” You only ever see that from white show runners like here and with Dr Who because they don’t see people but Black or Asian checkboxes. Meanwhile black and Asian artists see people that are black or Asian and treat them accordingly. Compare Gen V, that has a black lead with an Asian support character like this show, with Acolyte and the raw bigotry and ineptitude of Acolyte is undeniable.
What episode 7 proves is If the Mother said, ‘You can take Osha’ -you know, like a normal person - then there would be no show at all. Everything depends on that singular line.
It is baffling to me that Jedi Masters would use such primitive methods to examine a planet. There were several groups of failed Jedi who (agricultural or whatever it is called, also fields of occupation) who were there to do exactly such jobs. To send Jedi and Jedi Masters - ridiculous. They might have been called in after that group of specialists found something interesting. Unless Disney declared this non-canon as well. They seem to do this willy-nilly and whenever they need and want. What a mess!
i want to watch her try to explain what she thinks a "vergence" is. i have a feeling that it would be a collection of words strung together with no real information...just like in her interview with the mary sue
Instead of a vergence, they should have said it was a dark side Nexus. It would have made the witches stronger and the Jedi somewhat diminished in their abilities. This show is wack
lol she full on admitted that she PRETENDS to know what she’s talking about, to get her foot in the door. Unfortunately for her, she chose the wrong franchise to pretend with.. Had she took on a franchise like Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious or 007.. it might have worked.. but the lore and the fandom of STAR WARS??? No way
Those "guys" she refers to don't go in there pretending to know how to make a film. They just confidently say they can even though they haven't done it before at a studio level. They have some experience with film school or small projects so they don't let doubts stop them from having a go and saying so. They do actually know how to make a passable film at least. Something most of the studios cannot do anymore
So who were they hiding from? The Jedi? The Jedi arrive and first we find out they don’t even know who these witches are, and then when the Jedi tell the High Council, the council basically tells them to leave them alone. So…???
Don't tell me Disney is going to credit the rule of two to this show and the coven of space witches, seeing how Darth Bane is technically legends and not canon.
The fact that Osha is apparently getting fully conned by Qimir into being his "Acolyte" is super-odd, especially considering Osha was always the gooder 😉 , gentler child. And I still say that the Jedi didn't really do anything wrong. Every aspect of the judgement against them was effectively self-defense. So there's no deception on the part of Sol towards Osha, aside from perhaps not fully explaining what actually occurred. That's the only thing that he probably should have done when Osha was older and still under his tutelage.
The problem with the witches creating the girls through the force is that it negates multiple decades and billions of credits and experiments and work and trials that Plagueis did….and he failed. Darth Plagueis tried to do this and he failed. That’s the problem. Because Plagueis tried to do this and because he unbalanced the force, the Force created Anakin. So the difference is that Anakin IS a virgence and the girls were created BY a virgence. The big hole that they are standing around is the virgence. Like the cave on Degobah, and the hole that Rey “falls into”. So them being created is a HUGE problem because now the book of Plagueis, which is phenomenal (and yah it’s not canon) has been also crapped on. So she is crapping on multiple people’s work.
haphazardly thrown together on a whim, not making sense, not logically and reasonably anchored.. Welcome to Disney Star Wars, where hopes and dreams go to die
If Leslye has no idea about the plot it's because she has nothing to do with the writing. More probably it was given to her to pass as her own idea. Kennedy needs a successor and Leslye fills all the correct boxes!
I have seen all the episodes. The only explanation I've found is that all this shit has to be a social experiment to find out how much crap can pass down a human throat.
I think the writers' room was a safe space where you couldn't criticize other people's ideas, because they would feel offended and have their existence denied, so any idea was accepted, no matter how stupid it was.
I have enjoyed the reviews of the Acolyte better than the show itself just like the Ahsoka series the you tube channels reviews were better than the show so for that reason I would want another season but I don't want her to use characters from the original movies like Palpatine and plagues
As soon as I saw her first interview and she used words like "I think...", "I believe..." and "I assume..." I knew this story was gonna go in a great direction. 🤣
Leslie headland doesn't know what the Acolyte is about and she wrote the story but because she doesn't know what star wars is and the fact that she can't write a good story she writes as good as Dave and that's why the way the Acolyte and Ahsoka episodes seem to be the same way each episode is the beginning of a new story that never goes anywhere
I think in Disney lore, Vergences are centered around locations. So I guess that may add to the profundity of Anakin. I think Qui Gon also said the TPM “a Vergence centered around a young boy” but I can’t remember. I have been rewatching the show critically and so much is just so disorganized, many contrived situations and I still find myself getting lost a wondering what the fuck the focus of the show is.
So a vergence hides force-sensitive people...while amplifying their power and drawing more people in in general. I haven't watched the movies since I was in elementary school. How does drawing a crowd and making force-sensitives a bigger spectacle 'hide' them? Am I missing something?
Even if they explained the Legacy Run disaster, I don't see how the hell that created a planet with high concentrations of the force, especially without the Jedi knowing. All that happened with the Legacy Run disaster was a massive cargo ship was destroyed by the Nihil pirate group in hyperspace. The explosion cause chunks of the ship to fly out of hyperspace all over the system, destroying moons, planets, space stations, killing countless world populations. If there had been a sith ritual or something that had to do with the Force being drawn to this place, Brendok becoming a force sensitive planet would make sense. The more she explains, the more poorly thought out this show seems.
We shouldn’t forget that Dave Failoni was intimately involved with this. Looking at this and Ahsoka together shows us the childish, yet warped way Starwars is likely to go. Better it just goes bust and stops for a decade or so.
The vergence shouldn't of existed. A Force Nexus could be use to do the very same thing that the vergence does in this show, and it wouldn't of pissed off us lore nuts... at least most of us. lol I don't think the Nightsisters are stupid. They use the Dark Side, is all they do. But they use "spells" instead of just concentrating and willing something to happen. Its similar to why do Jedi use their hands to lift objects with their mind. They really shouldn't have to do it, but using their hand gives them something to help them focus. (And it shows us the audience that they are doing something.) I completely agree. So many people not just writers around Star Wars but people think that the Jedi's down fall was all on their Hubris. That is complete bs! did it have a hand in it? YES. of course. But saying that it is all on it completely spits in the face of 1000 years of work that all the Sith did since Darth Bane. to get to where Palpatine was. Setting up connections, supplies, building up favors, and alliances. Setting up parts of the galaxy to fall into place so that when Palpatine made his move. The Jedi were not just thinned out by the clones wars, but were decimated in the eyes of the Republic, so that when Darth Sidious becomes Emperor, the Republic sheep embrace him for it.
The history of the hyperspace accident is kinda cool, a ship broke apart during a hyperspace jump and the parts of the ship were dropping out of hyperspace and obliterating planets
Also? With the way the witches violated the minds of Kelnacca, we have a word for that. If Kelnacca were a human woman being controlled against her will by men, a lot of people would call it a kind of rape. Rapists are bad. Full stop. And if a person can prevent a rape or help someone after the fact, it's unambiguously a good thing. It doesn't matter if the rapist is a male or female, they need to be stopped and held accountable. But Leslye worked with Weinstein for years. I'm sure she knows all kinds of rape apologia.
The vengeance is one of the few things that doesn't bother me. The cave on Dagobah was a vengeance, it's how Yoda was able to stay hidden. Vengeance are basically just force anomalies which has been used in almost every Star Wars project. But yeah the whole thing is just ridiculous.
NOOOOOOO.....IDO NOT WANT A SEASON 2.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO MORE OF THIS KIND OF STAR WARS PLEASE.......but unfortunately unless disney sells back to Lucas or something drastic takes place over at Lucasfilm this not going away anytime soon 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😮😮😮😮😮..............
The Jedi Service Corps would have handled some science discovery. This is just proof enough to conclude they had no idea What Star Wars is, any details of any kind just were not something they even looked at. Now they're just explaining BS writing with BS answers. But most importantly, If the Sith haven't been around for 900+ years How the hell would Yoda who could Sense Jedi dying from across the galaxy and Aniken on Tatooine killing Sand people just totally missed a bunch of Jedi in Acolyte getting killed, the Trouble of Sol the whole thing would have been noticed. That's how bad the writing is. No matter how you feel about it being woke etc etc, the writing just fails on every level. They can't even be consistent with their own story. How the hell does Sol mistake a girl with a big tattoo on her forehead with one who doesn't have one there? Is his force powers as bad his vision after fighting Darth helmet of Stupid. Who the hell thought the helmet was good? Where is the money spent, they literally used metal detectors from home depot. The sets, effects etc are worse than Fan Films. We know every actor's salary but leslie's Wife/GF/Casting Counch scheduler
These people knows very little about SW but more importantly, they have NO talent and zero creativity to write a logical and compelling story. What they did here are just inserting agendas and propaganda and try to mold those things into a story and the results, a convulated and nonsensical crap story.🤦♂️
KENNEDY told us all what she was going to do with Star Wars at the start. The force is going to be female. For all of Disney saying its doing bad because of men hate no one has the guts to call KENNEDY a man hating bigot.
Fun fact each interview she does she thinks people are asking her about different shows which is why each interview sounds different from the last and contradicts the next one.
Damn this guy just made me think palpetine couldnt stop his lightning because he never learned how to .he never cared to learn he just wanted the power . Where as master jedi like yoda and qui gon or mace could deflect lighting they couldn't use it .dark seid can use it but cant stop it.....I guess 😂😂😂 lol .
I am wondering if a series bible exists. All the things she is vague on should be covered in that document. The show and Headland's explanations sound like the imaginary stories my toddler comes up with. Rambling, full of logic leaps, lacking continuity, and characters with no motivation for the actions they take.
Since when does Star Wars have magic? my understanding has always been that Night Sisters’ powers are still all Force-based, just a different kind of Force use, not magic. afaik there is no “magic” in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars has the Force INSTEAD of magic.
46:45 I went to high school with genetically identical twins that looked a little different. It happens. Idk what they look like now, but I'm sure they don't look EXACTLY THE SAME! Lol
I don't think she wrote this... that's why she's always giving conflicting answers to the same questions. I think she was picked as the "face" of this show.
👏 👏 👏 Great video and breakdown! I just subscribed! So glad I was recommended your channel. In one of the interviews she mentioned how she rewrote one particular scene many, many times... how??!! The whole show so far looks and reads and sounds like a first draft, lmao. It's bad, bad.
What’s confusing is Acolyte is written terribly and Headland comes off as a total imbecile who can’t explain her own story in these interviews - yet Russian Doll is an intelligent well-written show with tight plotting and consistent characters who have arcs and evolve believably. How is this the same person? My only explanations are either: (a) Russian Doll was all Natasha Lyonne’s contribution to the writing or (b) Headland’s name was basically was just slapped on to Acolyte and she doesn’t know because she didn’t write it and is covering for those who did.
Lots of good points about headlands confusion and inability to tell a story that isn't some weird version of herself. Very disappointed with your "political" take around 28:00. Han solo is a perfect moral relativist, happy to work with whoever has the coin, and then shrugs all that off for his personal connection with luke and Leia, not really on "principle". It is the moral absolutists- jihadists, dedicated "communists" (really anti-western reformation of Russian and Chinese empire), German Nationalists dedicated to racial "purity," drawing hard lines on communism and Islamism gettingnl us into Vietnam and Iraq, the sith hatred of the jedi - who have done the most damage. Lucas' prequels were an exercise in moral relativism, an eight hour excuse for Darth Vader, one reason they are worse than the original story, but they are not bad or evil - the potential sin is the kind of confusion Headland shows here. That is the opposite of the kind of determined extermination of the "lesser than" you say "counterculture" represents.
I haven't watched this show, but I watched a lot of videos discussing it and I have to say none of what I've heard makes a lick of sense. There appears to have been 0 oversight with regards to storytelling.
My guess is that they don't care that the show is terrible, and they know the show is terrible. They only care about making the fans angry. They get off on that. It's a total power trip. They're like, "Ha ha! We have control of this thing you love, and we can do whatever we want and make it as bad as we want! Go kick rocks!" And that's their only goal. They are miserable, so they want everyone else to be miserable. But hey, they're not making me miserable, because I'm not watching their show, and I encourage other people to avoid it and not even hate watch it. Just ignore their shows. And just ignore them.
🥸To be fair, I know multiple people IRL who would rather start relationship ending fights; rather than be wrong. The "misunderstanding" isn't unrealistic to me, but the double back flip way Les-Bian Handbag presents the whole ordeal is how a narcissist would try to save face. These episodes are Meta commentary.
If you have to do interviews to explain what's going on in your show, you failed as a writer.
And it wasn’t a sentence or two … there was more story in her comments than in the show itself
I said the same thing on another post😂😂
If it was one interview at the end of the season, I could go with that. She is doing an interview after every single episode.
And what's even more crazy? She even contradicted herself in her comments, just like the show. I think it's just what she is
I know her name is all over the show, but I honestly think Leslie Headland has nothing to do with the show. We shouldn’t forget that Dave Failoni was intimately involved with this. Looking at this and Ahsoka together shows us the childish, yet warped way Starwars is likely to go.
Better it just goes bust and stops for a decade or so.
The vergence shouldn't of existed. A Force Nexus could be use to do the very same thing that the vergence does in this show, and it wouldn't of pissed off us lore nuts... at least most of us. lol
I don't think the Nightsisters are stupid. They use the Dark Side, is all they do. But they use "spells" instead of just concentrating and willing something to happen. Its similar to why do Jedi use their hands to lift objects with their mind. They really shouldn't have to do it, but using their hand gives them something to help them focus. (And it shows us the audience that they are doing something.)
I completely agree.
I want a season two as much as I want major dental surgery without painkillers.
I hope there is a second season. I want to see how low they can go. I hope the Pakistani documentary director directs the Rey trilogy.
What they did here are just inserting agendas and propaganda and try to mold those things into a story and the results, a convulated and nonsensical crap story.🤦♂️
so she did the dunwich horror without even knowing what she copied? lol
I thought that Paul Sorvino was dead...
Wouldn't darth mom already know mama yes had created them?
i want a season 2, youtube reviews of that show are entertaining, also i want disney to waste more money on bad wrtiters and actors (mainly amandla)
I don't think ChatGPT knows how to write Star Wars.
It is hilarious however what she claims she went for in this shoe wasnt there just looking at it
Damn this guy just made me think palpetine couldnt stop his lightning because he never learned how to .he never cared to learn he just wanted the power . Where as master jedi like yoda and qui gon or mace could deflect lighting they couldn't use it .dark seid can use it but cant stop it.....I guess 😂😂😂 lol .
This is magic
I think it was her plan. That's her best at planning out a story. She's really that bad.
I am wondering if a series bible exists. All the things she is vague on should be covered in that document. The show and Headland's explanations sound like the imaginary stories my toddler comes up with. Rambling, full of logic leaps, lacking continuity, and characters with no motivation for the actions they take.
Since when does Star Wars have magic? my understanding has always been that Night Sisters’ powers are still all Force-based, just a different kind of Force use, not magic. afaik there is no “magic” in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars has the Force INSTEAD of magic.
i want an S2 from the Acolyte.
what should i watch on youtube???
😂😂
46:45 I went to high school with genetically identical twins that looked a little different. It happens. Idk what they look like now, but I'm sure they don't look EXACTLY THE SAME! Lol
Holy shit. A fifty-nine-minute video.
Thank you for the kind support Oslo.
lol imagine invoking a masterpiece like The Thing when you’re talking about your dogshit television show
Even John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars is better than this show. Not just because of the soundtrack.
You are thinking about this all wrong mate. You have to think emotionally not logically. Logic is the patriarchy
Dude, you should think about doing these lengthier videos - I like having the videos on, while I do work.
E: Or even a podcast?
Some people have told me this. I want to, I think I will sooner than later.
@@scripttrooper radical, dude.
excellent video sir, you've earnt a sub
Awesome, thank you!
Agree to disagree.
I haven't watched this show, but I watched a lot of videos discussing it and I have to say none of what I've heard makes a lick of sense. There appears to have been 0 oversight with regards to storytelling.
They took the first draft and ran with it...
