When the Force wants something to happen, it calls to and guides people. I don't think the 'lightsaber' was calling to Rey, the force was. There was something about what Anakin's first lightsaber represented, that paralleled with Rey's path. Keep in mind that the only reason a person is a Force user or is Force capable, is because of the midi-chlorians. They are what channel the Force through the user. It is a common belief that the Force is a consciousness that can communicate with and even control the actions/thoughts of Force users. Ben Kenobi and Yoda talk about this. It is my belief that due to Rey being alone and without the guidance of a Jedi master, she was guided by the Force itself because the Force needed her to follow a particular path. This is similar to what happened to Anakin. His destiny was to bring balance to the Force. For me, something to rant about regarding light sabers, is how Disney turned them into plastic looking pool noodles.

Partially agree with ya. Given that Maz is "force sensitive" (potentially picking up on Rey's abilities), and knew that they were ultimately seeking to find Luke, it would've been easy enough to just have Maz say "hold on, I have something for you to give to Luke when you find him." and simply GIVE Rey the saber (which she ultimately ended up doing anyway). None of that "calling to her" bullshit was necessary. The flashbacks to the Training Temple could've been introduced elsewhere, or even left out completely as Ren and Luke BOTH explained it to her (from their certain points of view) in the second movie (which, granted, JJ didn't know exactly what was going to happen in that second movie). For the story to have any lightsaber duels at all (Ren's temper-tantrums don't count as duels), the writers had to introduce a second saber (other than Kilo Ren's), somewhere. Rey just randomly finding one laying around would be unlikely and she didn't have the skills to build one yet. What was the alternative? Kylo Ren had a spare on board his ship, gave it to her and said, "let's see what ya got, scavenger!"? Nah, at that point in the story, it had to be Luke's to justify giving it to her at all. It gave us a "pretty good" intro scene with Luke at the end when she presents it to him (even if the next movie fumbled the hand-off) AND gave her some initial street cred that she really was sent by Leia (remember, Luke didn't know the Falcon and Chewy were there yet, so this might be stretching a bit).

Disney turned a powerfull tool into a harry potter wand that "has a will" WTF? that saber was used for war crimes in the clone wars and has a terrible duel score (anakin lost and later luke lost)

The sequels aren't cannon

Disney Star Warz violates so much canon it isn't funny. Trust me. The saber thing isn't the weirdest part. The "sequel trilogy" is the fanfic of a person with too much power and too many paternal issues.

The biggest travesty Disney did to Lightsabers other than make them glowing baseball bats was turning the Kyber crystals into glorified mood rings. It was cooler when the materials used affected the color it produced. It also takes away from the intelligence of the sith growing their own red crystals.

There are two directions a fantasy can go - hard or soft. LotR went extremely hard with dense lore a mile deep explaining every tiny nuance. Star Wars went extremely soft with incomprehensible and increasingly contradicting lore. Writers are lazy. If you don't have someone forcing them to do research they will just throw out nonsense and act indignant when you point out their work sucks.

If they wanted a female character to show people, they should have turned to the legends, they should have bought in Mara Jade now that's a character i wanted to see in a movie who is not a mary sue with zero story.

I miss the EU were sabers were pretty simple. For instance there were two crystals in it. One was the focusing crystal and the other determined the saber color. You could use any gem or crystal like a diamond, ruby, or emerald. Oh one other thing about Anakin's saber, that wasn't even his original saber. Ep2 established that he constantly was losing or destroying his saber. Heck I bet there are probably several sabers of Anakin floating around.

A great character wasted

The thing with the lightsaber was just Disney trying to give Rey the rub from two generations of Skywalkers, hoping that the audience's love for those two characters would transfer over to her. It's no different from a veteran wrestler with a storied career going out there and putting the up-and-comer over. Ultimately, it just shows how important it is to have a story that at the very least has a complete outline. George got away with this because he had several drafts to pull ideas from and ultimately got lucky more than a few times. He got lucky with the success of the first film, because Splinter of the Mind's Eye was the sequel until the blew up, and he got lucky that during drafting for Empire, he realized he could combine the characters of Darth Vader and Father Skywalker to create a compelling storyline that would not heavily contradict what had come before. That's something you can get away with a solo creator, not when the project is missing such a singular focus.

Agreed... Besides, didn't that saber and Luke's hand fall into a gas planet? That shit is long gone, and I think that was important to the story. The person Luke thought his father was did not exist anymore, and thus, the saber was lost as well, and it was time for Luke to forge his own saber if he were to become a Jedi.

They accused the fans of being racist, but had no problem treating John Boyega's character of Finn like garbage. They deliberately made it look like he was going to be a jedi and the main hero of the sequels, only to have Rey swoop in and take it from him. They even shrunk him down on the Chinese poster, but you dont see anyone at Disney or LucasFilm complaining about that.

Have you noticed that in the ST the characters turn on Anakin's lightsaber by pushing the round button near the top? Canonically that's not the on/off switch, it's actually lower down the handle. The "button" they push is an adjustment dial, and not a button at all. Even the Master Replicas lightsabers get that right. So much for JJ's "this will begin to make things right BS", he's not a knowledgeable fan as he makes out to be. I don't like all these changes around the crystal forming a bond to the user. When Anakin's lightsaber gets destroyed in AoTC is he more concerned about this thing he has a Force bond with or that Obi-wan will be angry at him for him loosing his lightsaber again? It's Obi-wan getting angry at him, if he had a bond with it I'm sure he would have been more upset at that. Lastly the bleeding stuff to make the crystals red is so dumb. In the Acolyte Osha turns the crystal red almost instantly after she turns yet Anakin's is still blue during the sacking of the Jedi temple, including the slaughter of the younglings, and his duel with Obi-wan. Disney's not even consistent in the application of their stupid crystal lore.

I don't ever remember being bullied for Starwars. More because I was the easy target being the short kid from the Styx with good grades. I didn't have all the stuff the other kids had so movies like Starwars on VHS was all we had. So I really loved the films I would watch with the family in the living room, especially with my father because that's how we would bond. What I got bullied for was not knowing all the trends all the other kiddos were in on, all the hand held video games and new movies and game consoles. Of course I wasn't hyperfixated on the films like some people probably were. There were always the kids who that was all their life. Like some were super into trading card games and whatever. In fact not being "in on the trend" was probably what got me smacked around. One of my biggest bullies back in those days would make fun of me for not knowing this or that whether it was video games or something silly like an obscure fact. But I knocked him down in the lunch room in front of everyone, probably embarrassed the crud out of the guy. After that we became good friends. Bless him he's in the armed forces now, but he actually enjoyed the same stuff I did. My point is, bullying is a complicated thing, as an adult I can look at those situations now and understand why someone might do the things they do. Playing the victim is not the same as being a victim. I was a victim of hazing and bullying, getting beat on, pushed to the ground, smacked and punched. But the difference is, you can't let it define you forever, you can't let it be your whole deal, because you can always be the guy who makes that difference like I did in my own bully's life. Give them a taste of their own medicine, like what you like, give no shits but take it. And I'll never forget what he said to me, "You took the wind out of my sails and made me rethink what I was doing to people because it hadn't happened to me." Anyway, I won't deny that people got beaten on and kicked and just got plain dogged on. I definitely don't think it was because of a popular movie series, more than likely it was the obsessiveness that making one's identity about something like that brings. A bully is going to look for any weakness they can exploit and turn it against you. You have to turn your weakness into a strength.

8:20 - I believe he said he had cancer as a kid so was shaved bald. So it's more likely the kids were teasing or bullying him for looking that way and for Star Wars itself. He was in and out of hospital for chemo so would have looked sickly and felt awful. Poor kid obviously. But yeah, I wonder just how much was to do with the IP and just a by-product of his ailment.

It would've made more sense if Han or Leia had the lightsaber. It would be weird, but they would have a reason to maybe have it.

Fumbled seems an apropos for how much little sense the Sequels had made up at this point. People like to talk about the Prequels have fumbled the ball, but at least the Prequels didn’t artificially amp up the protagonist on the skill level and deflate the tension with the favoritism of said main character real fast. Plus, Andor is just too grounded to know how it would turn out, and yet people are sucked into the whole "relatable" parts of it for some reason.

Script, normally I would agree with most of your videos, 90 to 95% of the time. But on this one, man you are SO off base. I dont know what it was like in the USA back in the 90s and 00s, but where I lived, if you didnt like EVERYTHING that everyone else liked or was considered normal/mainstream, you were a viable target, especially during the 70s and 80s, or more specifically, during the late 70s (when Star Wars first come out) and early to mid 80s for the second two movies. I was 6yo when New Hope released here, and I was a fanatic over this movie, and had been, past tense, right up until I actually got to see, Force Awakens. I will even admit, up until Di$neys shit was excreted, I was NOT a fan of the prequel trilogy, but compared to what Di$ney shat out, they are now Shakespearean by comparison, so yes, I admit I am a convert for those movies now. But as a kid, growing up in the sticks, being a Star Wars fan meant ostracization, harassment and bullying and every so often, a beat down. Was I the type of kid that was considered weak by my peers? Probably, I didnt bother to ask at the time. But this continued right up through into High School, until the day I stood up for myself and nearly killed a kid. After that, I was left alone. What I am trying to say, is, unless you were there, and unless you had experienced it, you dont have shit to say about it. I was so much a fan of Star Wars I named my daughter after a Star Wars character. My wife is/was a Star Wars fan, ironically, its how we met. My daughter was such a HUGE fan of Darth Vader, she would dress up as him on school days where they could wear a costume to school, ONLY to be harassed by the boys that would tell her Star Wars wasnt for girls. She was about 6yo at the time as well. She never got beat up as far as I was aware, but she was definitely teased and harassed, and THIS was in the year 2014 or there abouts. Our family are still Fans of Lucas Star Wars, and we liked Mando seasons 1 &2, enjoyed Andor and we even liked Skeleton Crew for what it was and worth, but overall the rest of Di$ney/Lucasfilth, well lets just say if their offices burnt down and all the digital copies of their movies, and the entire production staff were trapped and couldnt get out, honestly, nothing of value would be lost. They have systematically ruined this IP, stomped on Lucas' name and harassed and bullied the REAL fans of Star Wars for BEING FANS OF STAR WARS, the only difference NOW is, its the makers of Star Wars, and not so much (to my knowledge), the school yard bullies. I am NOT claiming victimhood here, just trying to explain this shit DID happen, and is still happening today, its just the bullying and harassment has changed but it is STILL bullying and harassment.
