HUGE Gouache and Airtight Palette Review, Swatch, and Speed Paint of Two Guinea Pigs!

- Join me as I review SIXTEEN tubes of a mix of Windsor and Newton Designer's Gouache and Holbein Artist's Gouache, and fill up my new sixteen-compartment airtight palette with them. I fill and swatch all of them out on speed mode, then make a test piece of art with them also in speed paint mode. The subject of the test painting is a set of two adorable little guinea pig friends, each with their own lettuce leaves! I really enjoyed the experience and the end result. What did you think? Those are awesome and they work for acrylic gouache too. I have left mine with a light spray across the top for over a week and they don't dry out. Just check them periodically. No mold whatsoever either.

They do? What happens when the paint dries? Can you get the dried-up acrylic gouache out? Or is the palette ruined when the acrylic gouache dries?
I purchased the little paint holder water bucket. It is adorable. I use my paint holder for watercolor paints. I enjoy your inspiration and enthusiasm has you create cute art .

What do you think of this palette and it’s ability to keep paint fresh now that you’ve had it a bit?
It works very, very well! I open it and spray it about once a week and that keeps it alive without needing to mix it around, with the exception of the yellow and white. The yellow gets dry (likely because it has a lot of white!) as does the white. In future i would exchange the white well for a color (like burnt umber or burnt sienna) and just carry the one white tube with this palette!

I wish someone had told me to unly fill them a little. Because I filled them about 3/4 of the way and when I pushed the gasket down the colors squirted out every direction and my new expensive gouache was immediately ruined.
I learned this the hard way the second time I filled it back up :(
Love your painting. Love this pallet. What brush do you like to use with gouache?
I like synthetic brushes, especially from Princeton!! They seem sturdier with the thick gouache. I like them with my acryla gouache, too!

I have that little palette. I picked it up a few years ago. The one I have came with a folding water cup that attaches to it. I keep the water cup with some plein air supplies. I set the palette up as a mixed brand watercolor palette. I've liked it for that use.
I have been thinking of getting a second one to use with gouache. It's been about a month since you posted that video. How has the palette been working for you.

Welcome to the channel, I'm so glad you found it! That little stay wet palette has been working out great. I just spray it with water whenever I use it, and it has stayed nice and perfectly useful every time I go to open it. The only color that did not like it was white--that one just seems to have some kind of binder or filler that really needs to stay in a tube. I am so glad you'll be getting back into art, it can make such a difference in your life! :)
@Eileen Valachovic I just ordered the same palette with the water cup and wondered if you’ve ever had an issue with leakage of paints from well to well. Thanks.
