- In this Video, Peter will be shooting with LED lights, he's only ever done shoots before with smaller LED lights and normally uses HMI lighting when not using flash or daylight. The awesome people from iFootage Lighting supplied the The Anglerfish LED lights and accessories, please see the link below.

I love how the "Peter doesn't do reviews" model. You can't outright pay him off (allegedly), he won't go through a script or technical checklist, but if you send him something he will play with it and just talk while he does. It's candid, entertaining, and generally far more useful in evaluating a piece of kit for regular use than any traditional review.
Thanks so much
It’s amazing how Bec can turn it on during a pose. To go from relaxed standing to posing for the camera, in an instant.
Love his technique and description of what, why, results. When he says "Beautiful, beautiful, that's really pretty, stunning " he really knows what he is talking about.
Thanks heaps
I like LED lighting. That combined with having the best model in Australia right now works good.
Peter, please do not tell Becca but she surpasses all of the amazing models that you shoot on this channel. She of course talks to us on every one of your episodes and thus we take her to be the girl next door with her disarming candor and openness. BUT - the moment she starts to pose, her eyes come alive with an amazing capture and downright beauty. I will not describe any more of her physical features because they all are top notch and I don't want to leave the safety zone of the eyes. Shhh...
Thank you for sharing you techniques. Many company’s that do similar photo shoots use many many more lights, it’s a just to promote to buy more lights that’s not needed. Thank you for being honest, and having a great passion what you do.
Thanks heaps
Bec 😍 and Of course, the Master Peter!!!
I love Bec!!! So beautiful and fun!!!
As someone newer to photography I always like the videos where even after so many years of experience you're still learning with things as you go and just highlighting the need to try things out to find what works.
Always learning new things :)
I don't know sh!+ about photography but I love how much more confidence and therefore allure Becca exudes as a result of these sessions it's compelling and captured for all to see. Damn
I just simply love Bec❤
Beck, you're such a stunner! I always enjoy your photo shoots with Peter.
Bec is really such a model! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 The black-and-white pics were my favorites!
8:06 missed opportunity shot "ultimate facial burn expression" we almost thought our favorite photographer will be murdered on camera by the cutest model :)
Lol :)
Love the Terry Richardson comment 😂
That light from the parabolic diffuser & a reflector bouncing light from below looks amazing.
As you said, awesome catchlights.
Thanks 👍
Bec, as defined by the English dictionary, and I quote. "Amazingly Glam, without effort."
Now, you know.
lovely Bec is always a treat
and using a great Model forsure
Hello there 👋👋, how are you doing today? Hope you’re having a wonderful day. God bless you!❤️
The way you two work together is so enjoyable to watch. Thanks for the great tricks n tips!
Thank you
I would never disrespect such a beautiful young woman, Becca has the most beautiful eyes that I've seen. You're lucky to have such a beautiful model working with you, to satisfy your customers.
Was wondering about the ISO setting and the Kelvin temperature here. Absolutely stunning lighting with LED lighting. Bec is WOW here, she does so much by doing so little. She is fabulous here she's really different, love it.
800 iso 5500k
So very much from a "non-model" model.
You look great Bec so beautiful happy holidays to you and Peter
Same to you
I like the fact that she is standing there in here hitop sneakers :D
Amazing eye, Peter. Love your art. Bec is always a favorite subject for me. Thank you and Bec.
Our pleasure!
Very Inspirational video. love it so much
Glad you enjoyed it!
we want more photoshoot video of Bec...❤❤❤
WOW this is beautiful and Wow the Dress Bec is wearing WOW, Did I already say WOW.
that was really great!!! thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching
She's beautiful ❣️
Peter, I really enjoyed this video, thanks! I have had good luck with Rotolights, and I think LED lighting will be used a lot more going forward.
Thank you
Bec is always the trooper. I have a couple of Smith Victor LED's that are similar to these and I always diffuse the light because looking at them or any LED source is always hard on the eyes.
Yes it's a major downside of constant light
I'd love to see a future episode (or series) on Peter's camera bags, why he likes them and how they serve him, how he packs for local shoots vs international ones, and other camera accessories that are notable. I love how he is an artist first (not a gear head first), but com'on everyone loves the secondary gear! 🤩
Thanks so much, we did two videos on lighting I travel with ruclips.net/video/3FhrpZLkeXs/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/gDh6I5Cv6Xc/видео.html
Looks amazing. I have never shot with LED lights. Have to try it one day. Oh, and Bec is gorgeous as always.
I get so much value from these videos. Thank you again for capturing these behind the scene moments and sharing!
Glad you like them!
Lovely work
Thanks a lot 😊
Strangely stunning.
Love love love these instructional, simple videos - I’m very interested in learning more about practical, versatile constant lighting as the backbone of a studio …. Oh yeah and where can I get a half dozen of those light stands with boom arms ? 😂😂😂
The Lantern softboxes are nice. They usually come with a skirt that goes all the way around with velcro so that you can really direct the light coming out of it. That would be interesting to play with.
Wow Peter! The use of the diffuser & white board creates amazing results
Thanks I really enjoyed using this light
So much fun thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
I believe the phrase Bec was looking for was "First Impressions..." Keep up the good work, love your content.
Thanks for that!
Beautiful.........🦋
Beautiful 👍👍❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done, thanks!
Our pleasure!
The lantern and flare at the end did have a great quality. Great vid showing continuous light 🤙
Glad you enjoyed it
Just this Friday I acquired 2 LED Light Panels and I can't wait to shoot with them. I'll probably use my 6X6 Silk to diffuse this light panel to make it softer, because it is a bit punchy. But, I can't wait.... Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much, hope your enjoy your shoot :)
I been following Peter and his friends. Always learn something. Wish him another successful year next year. Happy Holidays!!
Thanks so much
I like everything about this! Good job guys.
The Master at work.. How you adjusted the raw LED lights by using different photography props/tricks to get the effect you wanted off Bec's face the first time using these lights was incredible 🤍. Not the president of the camera club, Wednesday eyes, and Bec after a big night 😂
Thanks so muchb
Nice technique. Way different from the classic studio photography classes with umbrella lights with a key and a fill light placements. It has been years since I have done studio portrait photography. My day job pays much better. For some soft box photography, I have found some drop ceiling LED panels have very good CRI and provide nice soft box effects. I use those, not with models, but for technical product photography, such as used in product publications.
Welcome to the DarkSide, er I mean the LED light side…I’m a newbie, but am shooting with a lantern & a curved strip box (led) in place of a reflector…eazypeazy for headshots
great tips, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer yes!
Always love a Peter light tutorial…learn something new every time…cheers dude!
Happy to help!
Great work sir.
Thanks a lot for another great tutorial! I am happy to be able to watch and to learn from that.
Glad it was helpful!
Really impressed with these LED lights, and I have to say the Balloon Filter was by far the most impressive thing about this light set up for me. I've been looking for a compact, affordable and yet effective lighting set that is easily tunable and adjustable. I have only used LED's in broadcasting and like the solid 5600K light they give off but have yet to have a go with these smaller studio lamps, so thanks for letting us see how they shake down for you. Bec you look stunning in that wee sparkly pixie dress in a goth style Wednesday Addams meets Tinkerbell. You looked like you were having fun too, after the serious modelling bits, of course. Thanks again for letting us watch a session with Bec while you try out this lamp, you do us a great service by doing these and it's appreciated! - Dave
Thanks so much Dave, the balloon filter was my favourite too.
Realized Bec can play morticia addams perfectly.
Yes absolutely :)
Wow factor EH!
Thank-you for your tips and tricks .
Absolutely amazing
Photograph .
Thank-you you two .
Than you
If you ever make it up to Canada, please let me know EH 😁
@@Richless_Rich We have tried 3 times before with very little interest
great video team. Have to admit, the bit of gear I fancied wasn't that light but the scrim, loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice demonstration!
Thanks heaps
Great video, learned many new things, thank you for sharing it with us.
Thanks you
Really informative, Peter. I prefer the BWs as I tend to find that continuous light can be a little characterless in colour. Even though the all the images looked great - top model helps!
Thanks so much
Wish we had those lights when I was working in the film industry as an electrician/lighting assistant
They are awesome
Great video, again. For what I can see on youtube that the Leica gives beautiful skin tones and keeping black’s open. You should really try the sigma 85dg dn and the lumix 50 1.4. Perfect combination with this body. The light is beautiful. The downside of constant light is small pupils but the plus side is that you see more of the eye color. Thx for the inspiration and nice video! Cheers!
Thanks so much, absolutely love the tones from the Leica. I have an Zeiss Otus 85mm which I much prefer :) thanks for watching Billy
Excellent topic and very well done! I have a couple of LEDs that have uses.
Thanks Bob
Wow Becs Torso looks absolutely magnificent in that 👗. Please don't lose weight!
Hello there 👋👋, how are you doing today? Hope you’re having a wonderful day. God bless you!❤️
this really is amazing ( a term a lot of people are using in the comments ). i learn so much every time i watch one of your videos and the two of you really do work well together. thank you and happy new year!
Thank you very much!
Excellent session . Great lighting and posing. Always a treat to see Bec model for you, and that was a great dress.
Thanks so much Edward
Peter, have you tried using LED lighting with a gold or silver reflector ? Also, can LED be used to create a sunset for a background? Bec is a absolute doll, surprise she is not on the international stage by now.
Thanks Bob, I don't like gold or silver reflectors as you can't turn them up or down and I don't like the colour the cast. And yes of course as long as you have an LED that can change colour or you shoot in B&W you could create a sunset look for a background
I love Bek's outfit, I would love to know where she got it! hehe
It was custom made
Great
Wow I don't know what to say but wow thanks for the content as always man
Glad you enjoy it!
Loved this session so much...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always cool videos really enjoy you guy's work, quick question did her pupils look good with the continuous light?
Thanks heaps Mike, I'm not concerned about pupil size
Hey, where is Bec’s outfit from? That’s a gorgeous piece.
I came here to ask the same question. Love it!
Disco lemonade
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Thanks!
Miss bec, So pretty. Who would have thought she is not a model!
She is :)
I would never want someone to change themselves; however, I saw a different maturity in Bec’s face in this photo shoot. I wonder if it may offer her growth in her modeling if you tried some more sophisticated looks rather than rocker, punk girl to see where it goes. She is growing up. What a great beauty and excellent model.
Fully agree with your assessment, but I understand that Bec is actually a photographer more than a model 😊
@@rudelchw she can be a model
Thank you, Bec always wears what she wants to wear :)
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer lol best response possible
Yeah
Stunning Bec 💜
She is very beautiful
Loved this ! And that quality of light is beautiful
Which LED model of the Anglerfish did you use ? I see that have several based on the lumens
Thanks so much, its the SL1 320DN
😍
Nice tutorial but Bec would also look gorgeous in a daguerreotype at night.🙂
Thank you
I actually just started using constant lights (LED) for my shoots - powerful enough lights have finally become affordable enough- and as I am adding a lot more video into my work it greatly simplifies my lighting set-up - 1 set-up accomplishes both! One question - what was the wattage of the LED you were using (I have a few 200W units- once you go above that power things get a lot more expensive right now...)
This one is 350W
Nice. I am using a Rotolight Neo lll and getting much the same, with the opportunity to add two and a half million colours, if I like 😳 [I prefer B&W but 🤭]
Cool :) love the Rotolights
I noticed you are using ISO 800 which is normal for any of the constant light setups since it is hard to get the higher absolute powers of flash. Do you find that you have noise starting to creep in to image at that ISO on the camera you are using now? That would happen on a older Canon 5D Mark II for example.
It is also hard to see the front of the bubble modifier. Is it flat or more rounded like a China ball? The effect looks like a big China ball, which is cool.
*00 iso shouldn't be a problem on the 5D Mii and its round like a ball
Great vid guys, as usual. Peter, you mentioned the guy who came before Richardson but I didn't catch the name. Who was he please?
What version/model of the light is Peter using
iFootage Anglerfish SL1 320DN
Seems every time I watch your videos, I want to get another light modifier 😭!
Sorry!
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer It's all good, since it's better to add more to my lighting kit. Before you inspired me, all I had in there was an old 36" Photek Softlighter from the late 90s, a few round reflectors, with an old Dynalite kit and nothing else. Still want to work on the garage studio, but do prefer natural vs powered light.
Hi how are things !!! I have been following him for several years. I love his videos and it is rare that I miss any !!. I would have a question. What power did the model of led light used have and at what speed and aperture did it force it to work? Thank you so much ?
350 watts I have used this light 100 iso f5.6 1/250
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Thank you very much for the quick response!!! Greetings from Seville, Spain!!!
I have mixed feelings and experiences using led lights. Seems like you always have to jack up the iso to get enough shutter speed to ensure some degree of sharpness. The more you jack the iso , the lesser your dynamic range. I think they work well if you want to use them outside at night to help illuminate a scene . The effective range is limited. However they do work well if you want to immulate the old classic Hollywood B&W hot lights glamour look. Since they don't get as hot you can make your own barn doors out of just about anything.
I was shooting at 1/160 of a second and 800 ISO and it was razor sharp :)
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Yes thats quite a beefy stand you've got the camera mounted on.
I was not so impressed with the "kallah" shot, only the ones where you used the Parabolic diffuser .
But switching to B/W made a huge difference.
Anyways, thanks for sharing and Bec, you looked amazing in that suit
i dont know if it's just me but the shots v/s live view comparing the shots looks way to blown white? maybe its my screen but still like the style
no nothing over 245
How many watts has this light?
350W
Peter, you do a bunch of videos with RaRa or any of the stunning models you have and time goes by and I forget how absolutely beautiful Bec is! It’s like drinking really good scotch for a couple months, then getting another bottle of your favorite and tasting that again. Also a question. When you use leds do you have an issue with the model flow posing and blur at 1/160 and no strobe to freeze the motion?
Thank you, had no issues freezing the model at 1/160
Oops, I should say the Neo III is about three times the price...
you need to tell me one secret - why many professionals shoot portrait when they cut some top part of hair and they dont care really? I know its about face, but dont you want to have whole head including hair in the photo when you do a portrait? Do you try to always have whole head in while shooting portrait or is it something what is ok for you?
It's a fashion thing, the closer the eyes are to the top the more powerful it is. And often the tops of heads have fly away hairs
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer cool, thank you!!
Ive been trying to incorporate LEDs for 3 years. Other than High Key, I cant make them work for me at all. Got tired of burning my clients' eyes out with them. To be honest, they make a great video light but will never take the place of a quality strobe in photography.
Yes agree they are very hard on clients eyes
Many thanks for this new backstage session.
@Bec: Many thanks for posing in this session. I am sorry if the lights were too bright for your eyes, but with them I have just found today a new component that I think I haven’t seen before; you will read it in the comments to Peter. I am aware this session is not about posing, but please let me say my preferred parts are: a) when you open your arms, 2:46-2:46, it looks like you are going to fly like Tinker Bell; b) when you are approaching the camera, 4:41-4:44.
@Peter: Many thanks for sharing these multiple combinations of lights, and how to reduce the brightness to make it more bearable for the Model. The one I like the most is when the light comes from below because usually light comes from top or front. But what has brought my attention the most is how the contrast has created a kind of special dark line, in the Model’s contour, in the cover photography of this video for example; and after making a quick comparison with other photographs made and shared by you, I think it is not common to see it. I am aware this session is not about dresses but please let me say that these dark lines, which I have just mentioned, are reinforced by the linear based design of the dress that the Model is wearing.
