One of my favourite scenes in the show (though there are loads of favourites!). Rik and Vyvyan were just excellent when they fought together, and it was great that they both realised this and made Bottom too. Long live the comedy duo of Mayall and Edmondson!

What the Young Ones nails so perfectly, albeit in a comedically exaggerated way, is the combined squalor and boredom of student life in the 80s. Their accommodation is tatty and filthy, they rarely go out and spent most of their time just sitting around doing nothing - this is exactly how it was!!
One of my favourite scenes from this show.
Another is when Vyvian hits Rik in the crotch with a cricket bat, and Rik - in a slightly high pitch voice, clearly in pain - just smiles and says: "HAH! Missed BOTH my legs!"
Classic Young Ones comedy clip. One of my favourite tv sitcom shows that I watched as a teenager and now at the age of 55 I still watch them yet. Great times

Reminds me of flatsharing in Bristol in the early 80's. So cold in winter, setting fire to the furniture was a real option.

Always bugs me when people whine "I hate laugh tracks/canned laughter" Well that doesn't make sense because neither this or most British shows use that cheap tactic because MOST British shows are filmed in front of a Live Audience. IT Crowd is another show that some people assume uses a laugh track. Nope filmed in front of a studio audience also & the outdoor scenes there is a huge screen lowered for the audience to watch what happens on.

I'm not sure if I'm watching The Young Ones or Bottom here, this is something that could easily have happened in either show!
You could easily replace the name "Vyvyan Bastard" with "Eddie Hitler", and Young Ones could basically be "Bottom: The University Years"

BBC you don't hold the copyright on Rik Mayall's talent. So many blocks on videos that the public paid for anyway, through the license fee. I'm trying to introduce my sons to the joys of The Young Ones, and you keep blocking it. Rik will be turning in his grave.
