I love the Steve and Mav friendship. They're like 20 years apart in age. They 'camp' in generally pretty different ways. Their videos are entetaining in pretty different ways but they're both just such likable normal chill people from what I can gather.

I grew up in Nanaimo (and Edmonton!) and damn, what a nostalgia hit seeing the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, the ferry itself, arriving at Departure Bay etc. Nanaimo never seems to change - the south end looks exactly as it did 25 years ago. You got at least one of those glorious, sunny, autumnal Island days, too. I hope the sun keeps shining for you, Steve, and that you have some good times even in the depths of your loss. ♥ PS. If you're interested there are some small islands off the coast just north of Nanaimo that would be great for a stealth camp.
Parksville boy here living in Sooke. My folks are in Qualicum and Nanaimo. No stranger to the crossing at Duke as well as Departure Bay. Re: the tiny islands, the further north island you go, the more there are!
Im not sure there is a right way to do grief. You can push too hard to move on as well, that can back fire too. First time around I really made a mess of myself with it- mostly by trying to avoid it or doing cliche stuff expecting it to help... I was totally derailed though. Second time around I just accepted some stuff has to be gone through and cant be rushed, it went a bit easier when I wasnt trying to find a quick way to get through it. I was more aware that I needed to keep planning my life and not being totally distracted by grief and my progress with that... aware you dont get that time back.
Oh God 🙏😇 Bless you Robert. I’ve camped and caravanned in the UK 🇬🇧 all my life. Progressed to a touring Caravan after some medical issues ( well all my joints ). Couldn’t kneed down or get dressed in my tent ⛺️ anymore. I bought the van I have second hand after my dad died. So it was just mum and myself. Mum loved the van I got for us. But she died. It’s been hard going out in this van on my own for sure. Cos I bought it for mum. She LOVED AND I MEAN LOVED that van. But, I’m still going out in it. It’s been hard for a couple of years, but this year was easier. You just have too sick with it!!!!!!! I actually had a lovely year this year. So things are looking up. I still can’t sit on mum’s side of the van. But it’s getting better. ❤❤❤❤❤

Oh wow, seeing someone on a ferry brings back so many memories. I used to take the ferry a couple of times a year as a kid. Once to France, once to the Hook of Holland. Seeing this video brought back the ineffable scents of engine exhaust transitioning to cleaning fluids and people. I think I could actually small duty free when you went shopping. I don’t imagine you’ll see this… congrats on the popularity… but if you do then I hope you really appreciate how much your community appreciates you. Love seeing you back on the island. Because of you, Foresty, and Amanda from Tideline to Alpine I made my own trip up there from eastern Pennsylvania for the first time this past summer and I will surely be back!
