    I don't care what nobody says. This man is a top 3 pitcher all time and should be in Cooperstown. No steroid and PED can give what this man was given since birth. THE ABILITY TO PITCH AND DOMINATE! 95-100 MPH Fastball, 85-88 MPH slider, and 85-88 splitter.

      @@artboston4787 Doesn't change his skill set. I'd still think he's the GOAT even if he retired before taking PEDs. All PEDs did was extend his career probably, not make him a better pitcher.

      @@greyk610 Your not the GOAT because of a few great game performances....his career numbers were massively buoyed by the PED's. I loved watching him pitch but cheating is cheating....now if they were not illegal when he took them that's a bit different....i'm not sure about that.

    That's young Roger Clemens: could blow you away with a fastball all game. 17 of those 20 Ks were on heaters. Looked like one slider and two curveballs got the rest.

    There have been many no-hitters and 23 perfect games, but I wonder if one day we will ever see a 27 strikeout game. Perfect games require a lot of help from your fielders but if you strike out every batter now THAT is a perfect pitching performance. May never happen though!

    • @sirstewartwallace7874
      @sirstewartwallace7874 9 лет назад +19

      +Matt LaBelle It's happened in the minors. Ron Necciai did it in a Class D (now Rookie League) game in 1952. However, that game had 28 outs due to a dropped third strike. The amazing part is that Necciai accomplished the feat despite battling stomach ulcers. Necciai followed it up with a 24 strikeout game.

    Phil Brady had a BA .310 in 1986 and he struck out 4 times in that game. Danny Tartabull and Jim Presley both had 25 homeruns and BA of .265. And Dave Henderson had BA of .265 on that season. Ken Phelps's BA was .247 but 24 homeruns on the seasons. They weren't terrible. That game was early in the season and Clemens was throwing laser beam like fastballs.

    Whoever says he struck out 20 batters in a game because of PEDs is just plain dumb. Take all the PEDs you want and I'm willing to bet 100 bucks you wouldn't even strike out 20 little leaguers, The Rocket had and has talent... That's why he deserves to be in the HOF.

    • @jaredmorris8729
      @jaredmorris8729 9 лет назад +8

      Same with all players who took PEDs. You can't just take PEDs and instantly throw high 90s or instantly become amazing at making contact with a baseball. It takes a lot of skill and the PEDs just gave some extra strength. This IS cheating and I don't like it but people have the wrong idea on what it does.

    • @jorgemolina452
      @jorgemolina452 9 лет назад +3

      Jared Morris Exactly my point. People think PEDs are like Mike's Secret Stuff on Space Jam... You take them and instantly become the greatest of all time. It is cheating and it gives you and advantage over people not taking them, but talent is something that can't be bought or injected.

    My dad was in attendance for this game when he was getting a PhD from MIT, sitting behind the bullpen. Must have been an amazing game to be at.
    On a side note: Clemens clearly started using steroids AFTER he left Boston. How else do you explain him being a mediocre pitcher to suddenly turning around to be his old self again once he was somewhere else and started working with Brian McNamee? I'm content with him being in the Red Sox Hall of Fame, since he was clean then.

      He probably started using steroids when he was teamed up with McNamee, which was after he left Boston.

    • @dzanier
      @dzanier 6 лет назад +1

      I don;t think he started using until 98. In 97 McNamee wasn't with the Jays. If you look at his 1996 numbers with Boston, the only thing that's really mediocre is his record. He was 10-13 with a 3.63 ERA but he pitched 242 innings and gave up 216 hits. He led the league in Ks with 257. Rusn were really up in the AL that year. The best explanation i can give is that he got better control in subsequent years. In 96 he walked 106. In 97 he walked 68, the year after 88. Also, he probably rededicated himself even more physically. As good as his fastball still was in Toronto, when it came to getting strikeouts, it had become his second best pitch after his splitter. The same was true of his final two-three years in Boston. In Toronto his splitter was pretty close to unhittable.

    Being a Yankee fan and having seen Clemens pitch during those post-PED years, I have to say that Clemens seems too have more movement on his fastball as well as better general control before his use of steroids in these early '90's clips. I'm imagining if, for example, Nolan Ryan took roids...I think the extra upper body bulk might have hindered his armspeed and detracted from his overall pitching prowess. It's sad to think that Clemens may have ruined his reputation for drugs that made his pitching worse, or if not, only marginally better.

    yeah, seeing as how pitchers don't go much more than 100 pitches when there were guys like roger and many others that throw as hard or harder but can go 140 pitches and beyond.

    • @hurricane9851

      ***** yeah and usually when there is a perfect game or a no hitter going you wont see bunts unless its a no hitter with people on base. but even then thay arent bunting for the hit they are going for the sacrifice. people who bunt during a perfect game usually do it because they have a history with the pitcher.
