Thanks Em for sharing some insight on the meticulous. Great video.
If you are allowed to share, it would be interesting to hear more about the potential changes, etc. Really, it's nice to see the iterative improvement process.
@@MDK-oq5vb some changes I know are probably a thing are
Using the dial to ramp up and down while a shot pulls (this way you can manipulate the results without having to input values) similar to if a breville dual boiler was slayer mod’d but it saved the shot information and then you could use that from then on without having to redo it.
I’m pretty stoked about this as I pushed for it hard and have seen it in demos but i haven’t gotten the update just yet.
The reservoir will get bigger, the interface on the app will be a tiny bit more intuitive (instead of only dragging numbers or clicking you’ll be able to just double click and type the value or any of the three options)
Having specific limits in place (very similar to decent) but for now you have to be creative. So if you want weight to be the determining phase to the next stage then you’d set the preinfusion time to a crazy impossible amount vs ideally just tuning off that variable specifically)
And so many tiny things that I think build to an overall better experience
Great video! looking forward to the steam vid & updated vid!!
Great video! After this demo I have decided to back the project for both the machine and the wand! Can’t wait to see more of your Meticulous content!
As a software developer, I'm very impressed with the software they've come up with. Not just in terms of the functionality, but the ui/ux is crazy impressive for a first version
Totaly agree! I would even say it’s more impressive than the machine itself
I'm not a full time dev per se (more specialise in Infrastructure as Code) but I really hope this software goes open source like the Decent DE1 (John from Decent was a dev as well)
I am interested if they are going to at least provide an api even if it’s not open source. Would like to be able to access the data
@@davidsewell4999 I actually contacted them about that and an API is confirmed.
@@meatgeorge Ok, great! Thanks for the response.
Overlaying the shot of the espresso with the graphs is one of the best visualization ideas I‘ve seen lately. Really well done!
Thank you! It came from me struggling to fit both on the screen haha.
I also recently got word that the app it will use will have an option to film your shot and overlay (similar to this!)
When you share with others
Great job on the video, very clear presentation and fun to watch. Also: MAJOR RESPECT for the very clear statement of your paid involvement with Meticulous and how you handled that. Your video did not come off as an ad at all. This is what YTer #integrity looks like.
My sincerest thank you!
I’m a huge fan btw and have binged every video y’all have posted for years. Thank you for being an industry icon that made us all think a little harder about that lovely beverage we drink.
And yes it is a hard world to show products you’ve had some hand in and not have it be an ad or biased review.
at the end of the day if the viewer can learn something, or improve their coffee or life a bit, maybe laugh a little, then I’ve done my job and I wouldn’t dare risk the trust of the people who support me making these silly videos.
I just playfully call them scumbags 🤣
Glad I pledged. Hopefully the issues we saw in Lance Hedrick's stream will be ironed out in the final version. I really hope they manage to deliver.
Absolutely love the graphs on top of the video with transparency. Super slick way to get the details. Even more happy with my pledge after seeing this overview of the work flow with the device. And my gosh is that UI slick and the UX so intuitive.
Glad you like! The graphs were a fun challenge and going transparent was the best call for the video I think
The humor on this channel is completely underrated. The deadpan delivery at 9:20 followed by the hard cut sent me. Thanks for being very clear about your relationship with meticulous
Haha appreciate the love! Glad you enjoy the humor 😊
And yeah I want everyone to know all the involvement details!
I am so excited about the arrival of this machine!
Great video from start to finish! I started watching your videos for latte art but am really loving the other things you cover as well.
Thanks for sharing your experience so far. It’s really beautiful, and love that you can control everything via software.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video and software!
Great introduction video, love the overlay that show the graf ontop of the shot… Definitely look very promising hopefully the project actually comes to life and not die like some of the others. I definitely has great potential.
Please don’t die.
I *love* the look of this. I’m so tempted. If I hadn’t bought a Bianca a couple of years ago I’d be all over this.
This is a super cool machine but I was incredibly impressed with the overlay shots of the UI and the shot flowing at the same time. Great job!
Loved every part of this demo! Also the nerdy vibes with your editing style and intro music
Thanks for this Emilee. More intrigued about the Meticulous after watching your demo vs other videos I've seen so far. Pretty cool machine.
I can not wait to take delivery of mine! thank you for the video!!! I'm so pumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m italian man…. Notting better Than simply espresso … less is more. Thanks Emilee. Technonoly is beautyful but keep it simple our yummi espresso 😊
Excellent video with amazing production values, Dr. Bryant!
Thanks Jon!! I have don’t have a phd but I’ll take the title haha
This machine is absolutely amazing! I can't wait for its final form! Nice video on it!
Love your videos, some of them saved my latte art life 😊
Oh I am so happy they helped!!
More to come down the road too!
@@EmileeBryant 🙏❤️
I’m begging, please make a public profile with recommended presets when this goes live
Nice sharing and contribution to testing this; such a highly anticipated release later this year. Nicely done Meticulous team
i think my favourite thing aesthetically is the round cute little display, particularly at the part when saving your profile name. The alphabet going around in a circle was so satisfying lol
It’s really cute I agree
Thank you, very informative and entertaining. Well done!
Dirty potty mouthed ….Scumbag
I enjoyed the information and the presentation quite a bit. Nice job!
Loved your walkthrough of the profiles and graphs! Watching a second time thru to absorb all the goodness here and I'm sure I'll be back again.
My one complaint is that I was not called a dirty scumbag until halfway through this video 😅
Amazing video and content, keep it up
Nice review, your videos have really evolved into polished works that are quite pleasant to watch
Thank you Alex! That really means a ton! I’m trying by best to learn and improve with each video.
This channel is 🔥. The presentation is great.
Excited to watch this one!
those overlay frames were super satisfying to watch
Thanks, that’s my favorite part haha
It was a nice tutorial to understand what this can do, but I would love to hear your overall opinion on the machine, as a person who had a lot hands on experience with it. Do you recommend it for most people? What are the caveats? Does it look like it can stand the test of time? Is it worth the price difference compared to a manual espresso maker like the Flair 58?
Great video, cant wait to hear your final thoughts. Would love to see the milk steamer too if you get a chance to have a play.
Great video! Any thoughts on how sensors can be repaired once they fail?
Emilee, thanks so much for such a great video of the Meticulous! I hadn't seen the magnetic cover shown in other videos, and it looks like a great addition. Could you share your opinion on the quality of the espresso that is produced. thanks!
Emilee, thanks for doing this video! What happens when you press "purge"? Does the piston move down forcing all the water through the puck? Is it then safe to remove the portafilter (I assume if you removed it before purging you could make a mess)? Also, once you've removed the portafilter, is it easy to run some water though the brew head and shower screen to flush it before wiping off the screen? How does that work?
How about the continuously making espresso shot? Can it make good consistency or not? Because I want this one to open a small coffee shop, 100 - 150 cups a day (30 cups maximum continuously in an hour I guess)
Do you think could it be possible to use under this condition?
Thanks so much!
Excellent intro video! Not many videos on this machine yet. Nice, Thx!
Thank you! yeah its still so early, But i've had it for about two-three months now. If you have any questions I can happily answer them.
Does it have any presets to just quickly brew instead of having to set settings?
First of all, great video!
after owning a rocket r9 for about 3 weeks and now hearing about meticulous for the first time, i'm really amazed at how well it all works and i wished for such a great app for the rocket... the display as the only input option is always frustrating . I'm curious how the machine will establish itself on the market and I'm happy that technologies are being made so accessible that everyone can understand and control them :)
Thank you so much Tim!
I can see if for both types of coffee drinkers. Nerdy and casual. Up to you which path you take haha.
Emilee have you noticed any decrease in crema in comparison with other espresso machines? I believe Carlos mentioned that the meticulous tends to produce slightly less crema for some reason (maybe it's just the height between the glass and the portafilter...?)
How easy is it to pull back to back shots? Do you need to refill the brew head with every shot?
Editing in this video was super clean and fun!
they are bringing a capability in the app to record the shot and overlap the graphics to share it, this must be the beta version of that functionality I guess...seems that they quite understand the world we live in and how people would love to share that kind of things in social media
Thank you!
Carlos, I just wanted to let you know that the overlay is not part of the app. I used it to show both screens simultaneously. But after doing that I kinda thought… this should be a normal thing. Who knows! Maybe there is a way they could add a (insert filmed shot here) and then you could make graphs see though seamlessly.
Again.. they aren’t planning that but I can plant that seed.
Update! They are making an overlay video format for the app! I was unaware at the time of making this and we funny enough did the same thing.
So I believe now, yes the community app will allow you to share the profile with video!
@@EmileeBryant yeah, saw that in the stretch goals the same day I saw you video, so I assumed that you had the beta version of it
Hi, thanks for the great video! Would it be possible to see the workflow on back to back shots. Particularly interested on how we manage the water i.e. Do we purge the unused water in the reservoir? Or Can we releive pressure to allow portafilter removal and reload for the next shot without need to add water?
Another question is if the machine needs the water reservoir full for a shot or if you can add exactly/close to what you need for a shot?
Thanks!
Such a great question! I should have included purging here.
Okay so the plan they mentioned to me is that the reservoir will increase and be able to hold 150ml (that’s more like a shot of max 120 ish if you count puck absorption typically being double the dry weight.)
So theoretically it can make two + full shots (or more depending on size of basket) if you are using the matrix screen which prevents water from going through when the piston pulls up and isn’t applying force. They have not confirmed it can do this in the final but I know they want to make it happen if they can.
However there are two options for purging otherwise. Manually (just hit the lever to Home position and then purge again into another cup and you’re ready to add water to the reservoir anyway. Pretty standard workflow and also happens to purge it. This also means very dry pucks as all the foam and water is pushed out (you can see that in the broll montage at the beginning of the video)
Or you can turn on the auto purge feature, that does those steps for you. You just gotta switch out cups and good to go!
@@EmileeBryant thanks for the detailed response, would love to see this workflow video whenever it can be shared. I think it is critical for many of us early backers.
does the meticulous rely on bluetooth to connect with a laptop? What kind of networking options does it have?
The Tesla of Espresso machines! ........ I'm a rocket espresso machine user and fan, but I'm welling to do a trade-in 😁
Thank you Emilee.
Nah thank you
Do you find this machine needs lower temperatures than you normally set for espresso machines PIDs (supposedly like the Decent machines) because it measures the temperature right at the coffee level. I noticed it's 89c in the video where normally you want 93-94ish
It’s lower temp because that was the default and I just didn’t adjust for the video.
It’s set so low because it is built in a high elevation where water boils around 91 c
But on a side note, a lot of people report to really enjoy lower temp shots!
Maybe I’ll set up a profile and will only change temp incrementally and report back with a fun (temp video)
daaamn.. didn't see this coming 👀
always cool to see new videos! =D
Thank you! Excited for you to see what’s on the horizon! ❤
@@EmileeBryant 😍❤️
Meticulous, certainly an apt name.
Cafelat Robot literally crying tears of joy for its grandkid 🤖🖤
I wish you said how the coffee tasted tho
These shots were pretty good but I did pull them more to show the potential profiling and less taste. However I have pulled many MANY yummy shots on it.
Have you set the temperature low or is that a pre-production/software issue? I noticed all shots were around or below 90°C.
You can set it higher and lower. I just left it at the default this unit was set at.
It’s set lower because it was created in higher elevation and so water boils much sooner there
I'm looking forward to see the steamer. Will they include it in this kickstarter?
It is an add on you can buy in the kickstarter!
I have yet to play with it but as soon as I get my hands on it, Im going to tinker and test and then I will make a video with it :)
How dose the pucks look after the shot? Is it messy? The machine has no 3 way valve right?
The machine has a purge feature that pushed all the water through similar to a flare (also has an auto purge but I didn’t use it in this video)
This leaves the puck desaturated and bone dry when you knock it out. Actually very satisfying
That is an espresso machine for data scientists 😍 interestingly, I think I can do all those profiles with my robot and measure all those variables aside from temperature.
off topic: what's that ergonomic labtop you're using at the back?
It’s just a clamp computer stand from Amazon! But I love it haha.
My brew bar desk got too cluttered haha
Hey Emilee! Is there going to be some pre-set profiles already available for us newbies to make some good coffee on the first day?
Oh yes! It seems complicated but they are making it very simplified as well :)
Thanks for the great video! So excited to check them out at SCA 😁
I actually said I would pop by the booth and help out! So you’ll likely see me around there or running around filming haha
And thank you 🙏
Awesome 🤠 I’ll be doing the same for Baratza (running around with some cameras lookin nutso) so see ya there!
First time viewer and im perplexed why im being called a scumbag. Yet still wanting more.
What are the dimensions of the machine? Can’t seem to find it anywhere
I want one! Come back to England and give me yours 😋
Would you recommend the Meticulous Espresso if it was your only machine? I really want it, but I just want to make sure that it’ll be a reliable product that I can enjoy for a while.
How does this WHIZZY DOODAD espresso-maker compare to the simple Cafelat Robot? 🙂
the lever gave quite a lot of force into the arm holding the portafilter, it obviously moved in the video, not sure if it’s gonna hold for long term usage?
I believe it’s a totally normal phenomenon and just part of how the piston pushes down. They have for sure stress tested it and claim it’s safe and totally normal. But I did also raise that question.
So the machine doesn’t have a container to hold water so you have to pour in manually every time you make espresso?
Yes. very similar to a flair machine but all digital and controlled
Finally!🎉🎉🎉
hi Emilee, since you tested many machines and has a vast experience on steaming milk, I would like to ask if you encountered a steamer on a super-automatic machine that can generate at least reasonable micro-foam?
Eversys is the closest to good.
And even then it’s a bit stiff.
Though if you go for a bit less foam (if it gives you an option) and then transfer the milk against the wall of a larger jug and swirl it a ton… you might be able to pour exactly the same (depending of course on so much)
It’s all about the tightness of the bubbles (super autos suck at this but transfers g milk helps)
And the amount of foam overall. (Too much inhibits latteart as well as no foam. So if the machine can go lower percentage then that’s ideal.
Another good option is the nano foamer. But also! Meticulous will be releasing a stand alone steam wand.
@@EmileeBryant Great, this is very helpful because there is no comparison available as to the micro-foam quality of various machines. Probably difficult to perform at once although the technology to measure the quality, does exists.
@@EmileeBryantThe nano-foamer is popular but as I understand, it doesn't heat the milk.
Loved the breakdown! I was also in the ig lives using the meticulous 😅
Haha the ones where it would not do blooming? Lol luckily it was an Erie I discovered from those lives and they have since fixed it.
@@EmileeBryant yep when you made like 20 coffees and I encouraged you keep going 😂
@@AlexZapata- and I kept going for like 3 hours 🤣🤣🤣
@@AlexZapata- you can see the dedication I put into testing it. That live is like the tip of the iceberg. Really hope you enjoy the changes and features I recommended
@@EmileeBryant it seems a lot more stable now 😂
I wish my Decent's UI was as playful as this. I feel like it actively discourages me from fiddling with profiles, whereas Meticulous embraces that aspect.
It’s really a great and breezy interface.
There are a few more workflow changes to the manual interface and the apps that I hope will excite you even more! But very minor tweaks as it’s pretty solid as is)
Thx Emilee for the Meticulous operation UI rundown. I’m curious how the shots tasted! I placed an order for one even though I don’t need another machine on my kitchen counter. Keep up the great videos. I’m actually more interested in the milk frothed that Meticulous surprised me on launch day. That’s where your expertise comes to play!
Stay tuned and I will definitely update with the milk!
Thank you for the early tour of the Meticulous. I’m excited for there to be alternatives to the Decent for precision, ultra configurable home espresso.
What’s with using adjectives for product names though??? Keep up the good work!
Seems like a helluva lot of machine for the money.
4:46 roger that
by the way, emilee....
SICK editing for this video!!!!!!
😱👌❤️
Why thank you so so much!!!
what's the maximum stable brewing temp?
It goes just up to boiling. I probably would live below boiling but you can crank it up if you want. Can also brew with colder water if you set the brew to start at a lower temp. Only think you can’t do is change the temperature after the shot starts as there is no space to mix cold water with hot or vice versa.
I’m not sure how the final will be but it seems to stay around a degree- 1.5 degrees by the end, if there is any drift.
Hmmmmm, do I want this or something simpler and more analog like an Odyssey Argos?
Isn’t it great we live in a time with so many options… it’s… amazing … 🙃 not overwhelming at all 🤣
Anyone know the projected price?
Oh you fancy
And what was the quality of the shots that you got?
Actually they are fantastic!
The shots in this video were absolutely sipped on but I didn’t really make them to taste good. More as an example to f different possible profiles.
But yes the coffee on it is great, I would say the coffee and grinder and ratio will have the largest impact on you quality of flavor.
@@EmileeBryant Thank you for the reply. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I'm almost sold on ordering it. Waiting for it to launch.
@@KrishnenduKes of course! Their kickstarter already started but I’m not sure when production will begin.
@@EmileeBryant Thanks for letting me know. I just pledged!
So I know absolutely nothing about espresso or coffee, machines or anything, and I found a cool one named meticulous, and I decided to look at the first video I could find I am severely under educated on the capability of this cool, looking machine I don’t even know what all of this means
That is the best place to be. It’s the golden age of coffee atm.
You’re in a position of discovery and that’s like hearing a great album for the first time!
That being said this machine can be basic if you want it to be and also caters to the nerdy side if you use the app. If you had one you’d also learn a ton from the community that uses it as well and uploads recipes and whatnot.
Can't wait to start pulling shots and taking endless photos of it.
Haha that’s been me for months
@@EmileeBryant so jealous 😜

Yes I did. I edit everything on the channel.

It’s a cool idea and not a bad execution! But I need my steam wand and water tank and water heating in one machine. The workflow here seems non ideal 😢
They are making a steam unit but idk if that’s gonna satisfy what you’re looking for. Good to know what you enjoy! :)
Great stuff Emilee! Though if I can make some constructive criticism, I find the frequent jumps in the camera zoom distracting/disorienting. Less of that sort of thing, harrumph harrumph!
Thank you! ❤ exactly the feedback I need to hear.

Welcome back!
Chip tune approved but had to wait to 4:47 to be called a scumbag ;_;
Gotta lace it in😂
such an interesting machine but i just think there's too much software to it. i need one that just works with power.
It’s very unique for sure. That being said The app is totally optional.
It also functions as a, walk up and press go, style machine. And if you wanted to do nerdy profiling, you totally could :).
I undid my pledge because I'm too paranoid about it not making it, and I don't mind paying retail if it does
I paid for the VIP pass but at the last second I decided against it. Lance's video showed that it wasn't developed as far as I had once thought. I just didn't want to have money tied up for an unknown amount of time. I think I would have been frustrated if it was delayed. I am pretty sure I will buy one when they are available for the masses.
I can feel that! It’s a lot of money to put on faith. It’s basically a finished product minus finding all the software quirks.
agreed, at the promised price point there's fair room for this to be another Kickstarter flop
How much is this gonna cost with tax and all coming to USA 1500 2k.
I believe around 1500. Unless you add accessories or got the early bird price. shipping is region dependent.
Very cool, but I’ll never purchase an espresso machine that requires software that needs to be periodically updated. Planned obsolescence fears.
I like this way of thinking as I agree.
Though I will say, the software is internal and you can update via a usb stick (I think they plan to do WiFi updates down the line as well but idk)
So I have all my past updates saved on a thumb drive and I can pop it in and use an older version if I needed to. Theoretically if you had that file in the cloud you would always have at least the original or most recent update..: should things turn south for the company or they move on to other projects
@@EmileeBryant So, when you access the software from a phone, tablet, or computer, are you just using a browser and hitting an ip address?
@@almightygoz21 for now yes! I’m sure the app will be an actual app but I will mention a back up address as a fail safe for the purpose of longevity! I would hate to see it obsolete so I’ll push for that to hopefully never happen.
