This is basically like a better version of the nescafe foamer. The easiest way to clean that thing out was to just add water to the fill line, add a drop of dish soap and run the foaming cycle again.
Kinda really surprised he didn’t compare to the Nespresso one that is almost identical ( and I’d argue with a better/less fiddly foaming spinner implementation / design) which has been around for maybe 15 years now - I’ve been using mine for 6 or 7 and would love to know if this is a worthwhile improvement.
@@iamjayrobinson No nespresso foamer i have ever used had produced anything close to the type of foam you need for latte art. It doesn't really texture the milk or leave it creamy, just makes some foam you can scoop ontop of your drink.
@@dylanevans5644 Whilst I appreciate your reply - anecdotal experience isn't the same as a proven comparison. I've always decent enough results - not steamer-wand levels, and the Nespresso one used almost the exact same system so I'm not sure assuming one is much better really cuts it - hence a comparison would be straightforward. Even if the champions was "This is MUCH better than that".
@@iamjayrobinson Are you talking about the nespresso milk frother that has the small whisk that drops onto a nub at the bottom and has a coiled spring like disc that spins? This is the style I have seen most often, and most other manufacturers are a variation on this. Some foams come out better than others but none are comparable to the foam from an espresso machine. I must have used about 20-30 or so of these types of frothers (they are popular at work, and I work contracts) and not one makes foam like an espresso machine or this nano-foamer. Of course my experience in anecdotal, but the comparison is, in my mind at least, virtually pointless.
I used a splash of 5% vinegar diluted with water to remove proteinaceous gunk from pots and pans (cheese, cheese sauce, meat juices, etc.) I bet it would clean out the milk scum from the bottom of the Nanofoamer. Starting a milk cycle would likely help --a little heat and some agitation. Then a quick rinse with plain water to remove the vinegar residue.
Haha, watched the nanofoamer original video just before this, had to a double take between these seeing how different Lance both looks and sounds. Could have told me it was a different person and I wouldn't have questioned it. The production quality has certainly gone up, but not lost any of the whimsical personality. great review as always.

I've been using the Nespresso milk frother on the machine, can't wait for the perfect foam and try some art.
WOW! Thanks for the video. I have a milk frother from my days drinking Nespresso. It always made the foam too stiff by the time the milk was fully heated. The foam was never integrated into the milk. I would never have believed it possible had you not demonstrated. Things that make you go hmmm.
did you get it? Would love to hear the review. I bought their nanofomer v1 off the kickstarter. Not disappointed but was never able to achieve the perfect textuer.
@@alkachauhan7612 I can vouch for its performance. It literally creates quality microfoam with a press of a button. It's just about dialing in how much foam you want. The only downside is the cleaning part. I thought a quick rinse would be enough but you always have to brush the inside walls especially at the bottom cause milk can burn and stick to it. My hands are a bit big so its uncomfortable to stick it in and get a sponge down there.
4:21 LOL… Last school year I was working with my 2nd grader on a science project, trying to help her use magnets + an electro magnet to turn a fidget spinner into a motor. But there was also a moment where I looked at my v1 Nanofoamer and thought that’d be cool to rip out the nanofoamer shaft instead of the whisk ‘
I’d be me interested in purchasing one of these if I wasn’t so disappointed with the quality of the handheld subliminal nano foamer. The button on mine barely works (even right out the box) and it was clearly constructed in the cheapest way possible. The impeller outer ring cracked after two months of daily use/cleaning since the mesh ring is only a tight press fit. Clearly the materials were not good enough, and the price was just way too high given the issues I have. Since this product has so many more moving components, I’d really be nervous as to the longevity long term.
Got mine on order - eager to get my hands on it! I don't have a microwave nor a steam wand so this is perfect for my use case. Just hoping I can get a decent workflow figured out when doing 2 or 3 cortados/macchiatos back-to-back.
Update: 1st one stopped working after 5 months. The replacement is fiddly. Constantly needs adjustment to work properly. It doesn’t spin properly (or at all)in the second half of the process. Well, sometimes it does when it chooses to. And I definitely have the lid on correctly. I’ve noticed there’s a new version launching soon. I appreciate they sent a replacement but I am not impressed at all. Way too faffy for something at that price point. I keep reverting to my trusty old Dualit.
I've been testing one for a couple of weeks now too, and have similar great experiences. Interestingly, my very first try felt like it didn't heat enough and Dominic told me he increased the temperature based on tester's feedback. I guess people like their silky milky hot! 🙂 The lid only fits one way, so I never had issues with that. For cleaning, I put water in and a drop of detergent, and let it run on one of the programs. I always have a glass of water standby when I use the manual NanoFoamers, so in that regard this is the same. But there's definitely less build-up of stuff in the impeller than with the manual versions. Maybe because it heats the milk slowly while spinning? Do you think there's a flavor difference of slowly heated milk compared to "slam it with steam"? I'm with Team Lyndsey here!
@@x3BobO I think there are 2 things going on with Lance's temperature test compared to mine. Hi Lance, what a timing… I just purchased a Nanofoamer Lithium and watched your (awesome) master class. I trained with normal milk today (and made delicious silky milky pancakes afterwards) and had really good results. Been thinking about the Pro as well of course. However, regarding your review: You could do a follow up comparing it with different milk alternatives. My wife and I drink only oat milk cappuccinos, and I have a really hard time getting good results with the Nanofoamer. Our go-to barrista oat milk brand uses only oat and inulin (no oil) in their recipe. Its quite hard to get the silky milky with the french press, but it is possible. With the Nanofoamer, it is frustratingly impossible to even get a little bit of foam. Now I have purchased 5 different oat milks will different recipes and will try to master the silky milky with the Nanofoamer. I would be really curious how difficult it is with the Pro to get decent results with milk alternatives (like, you buy 10 different brands and compare). Cheers, and thanks for the effort you put in this!
I found the same. I use oatly these days and a local supermarket oat milk (m&s barista oats for those in the UK). The rest of them just don't work for me but these two are perfect!
was looking forward to this review for a while now as i supported their KS months ago! thanks Lance. they mention in their FAQ that it is possible to pour milk directly from the Nanofoamer kettle and still be able to make great latte art. have you tried that?
I’ve been using mine for 3 weeks now. I’m happy. Great latter texture. I can’t do art with it but the drink experience is as good as fancy bar. I use flair 58. I don’t feel the need to get a machine anymore. Great job !!
@@chuckolson5219 that's why it's called ART. Not everyone likes it, but some do, definitely not you. BUT it does help in knowing the texture of the microfoam.
As someone who rarely has milk drinks, based on this review I’m happy I jumped on the campaign for one of these to pair with my meticulous (whenever it arrives).
Backed the Kickstarter, used it couple of times and it stopped working (doesnt even start up) Contacted subminimal, sent out a replacement jug after about a week of communication (they're not very responsive). Got the second one, worked for a couple of weeks and same thing happened. Ive done all to make sure my unit is dry (wiped everything with kitchen towels before switching it on) but still it blows. Milk texture is not consistent, sometimes its great but half the time there ARE bubbles and ive made sure I've lined everything properly. The cleaning is a nightmare. Ive washed it immediately but the burnt milk made it so hard to clean without scrubbing it. For the price i would have expected more or at least a pleasant user experience but im now back to my aerocinno (yes i know its shortcomings but at least it is easier to clean and hassle free)
Thanks for the review. Save money and get the same result. Nanofoamer Li is a better bet. Warm up milk in microwave, use foamer and that’s it. Easy cleanup and enjoy beverage
I think the other point of the nanofoamer pro that since it doesn't use steam to froth, which introduces water even so little, is there's less water solution and any potential flavors from the water in the machine transfered via steam.
I got it - you'd think it would save time, since it just involves putting milk in and pressing a button. But in actuality, the clean up process is quite time consuming and aggravating to perform. Also, I'm not a fan of the microfoam it produces.
Looks pretty good. I almost backed it to go with the Meticulous machine but cleaning process didn't seem like it would as easy as a traditional steam pitcher cleaning. And meticulous came out or are coming out with their own more traditional steam wand type solution with automated or manual modes. I think the fact this one can do cold foam is a big plus and very cool. Its also cheaper. Size limit isn't ideal though if you have to make multiple large milk drinks at the same time but that's not something I'd normally do anyway.
Nanofoamer masterclass is actually how I first heard about you. I had just turned into a coffee weirdo from James Hoffmann, got the Flair Pro 2, and thought I'd get a nanofoamer to pair with it. I also jumped on the Kickstarter on this because it just seems nice to get good silky milky on easy mode. I'm also looking forward to the Nanofoamer Pro breaking my monopoly of making lattes at home whenever someone wants one.
I noticed can make reasonable microfoam with regular milk frothers that have a sufficiently weak motor so that the spinner is only able to pull in air (displace the milk) at the very beginning of the whip. My delonghi has a 'weak' setting that's supposed to be used for milk warming but it works pretty well for this. It's not perfect though and I need to fill it very high so I'm excited for this product.
I guess you can pour som room temp water into it as soon as you finish to rapidly cool it and prevent the milk from burning and causing the scum. Plus you can also toss the lid back on with the impeller submerged in the water so the milk doesnt dry out and cake on.
This made me feel good about my backing. Got a unit with all the bells and whistles on it. Now i just need to uograde my flair pro 2 to a 58+ and find a good electric grinder on par with my C40MK3 which i use since 3 years for espresso 😅
Thanks for the review! I decided to stick with my Nanofoamer Li for now because of the ease of cleaning and it being less finicky. I might reconsider buying the Pro later after more user feedback. The price of it shipped to EU + taxes is still close to what the retail price will likely be here anyway.
thanks for the detailed review! I just got my nanofoamer pro, after a couple of use, i feel like the milk always have some separation between top and bottom. The top layer is much thicker, and bottom is much watery. I usually just shake/rotate it to have it mixed, before pouring into the coffee, rather than pouring it into a separate pitcher. I'd really appreciate if you could share some insights. Thanks!
I'm skeptical about whether the meticulous milk is genuine. As of last month I've never seen an uncut video of it actually working - only very suspiciously edited trailers. I'd love to be proven wrong though!
@@nicktohzyu The meticulous milk is only a concept / very early prototype so far afaik. They said something of the sort in one of the last backer updates. Yes it's taking a chance but there are very few steam wand only alternatives out there
Another excellent video, Lance! I am wondering if the significant temperature variance has anything to do with the starting temperature of the milk product that you are using. For example, if you use milk directly from the refrigerator versus milk that has been sitting on the counter for 10+ minutes in a warm kitchen. It seems that the final temperature of the steamed milk could be different depending on your starting temp. Did you control for such a variable in your testing?
Hi! I just got this and each time I use it I get a milk that is just too dense and can’t do any latte art with it. I’m completely new to latte art though but I don’t think it’s my skill that’s the problem. The froth just ends up in a dollop at the end. Any ideas how to make it work? I tried with semi skimmed milk right out of the fridge, 160ml, on program 2, tried with 1 as well. Right away transferred to a pitcher, swirled and hit on the table and then into the coffee cup. Help!
Whoa! Is this the first time his wife is on a video? Imagine having a coffee ninja in your house every day! She’s lucky. My wife gets a coffee wannabe.
Great video. Looks like a very handy product. I'd probably keep warm water on hand to pop into the Nanofoamer Pro right away after pouring the foamed milk out. I wonder if running the foamer with warm water would work to clean it?
ordered mine awhile ago, but i do wish you were a little more clear on min size. I do think one of the issues I've had with many frothers in the past is that the minimum amount of milk to use was far more than was needed for a single cortado or macchiato and it felt highly wasteful.
How would it compare with the Nespresso Barista machine. The Nespresso is not difficult to clean at all. Plus it can be used to prepare different menus
If you want to compare the foam with that from a steam wand, shouldn’t you add some water to the milk in the foamer to match the steam added to the milk by the steam wand?
Just received my nanofoamer Pro 2weeks ago. From my perhaps 8-10times of usage, the temperature (infrared thermometer) seems to hit 65c at the 2nd beep everytime. However I am having issue with the foam being too much and clumpy even at setting 1, black silicone piece regardless of volume of milk I use. I use dairy milk with slightly higher fat content than usual.
Lots of us here in the comment section have the same issue - I feel like it's possibly a problem with the type of milk in my country maybe? Same problem with both full fat and semi-skimmed milk
Happy to see this review. Now patiently waiting for this to arrive to be able to offer guests milks drinks with my Cafelat robot. I would be interested also in seeing if you can pour art from the pitcher and not transferring.
It is pretty sad that they did not use induction heating, the milk would not stick to it. I have thrown away two of my foamers because of this. I had been using a Catler induction heating foamer for 10 years and it is still like new. I went for Nanofoamer because of the foaming technilogy used, so again the foamer would have been perfect with induction heating, plus using PID for temp control.
8:10 Hello! How much milk did you use for this cup? I'm trying to use it, but the temperature is not hot enough for me. The foam is thicker when it continues to heat and stir😢
Hi @Lance Hedrick, I ordered this nano foamer pro based on this video in october with the kickstarter. I was told by nov, i will receive it. I havent received it yet and cant wait for the delivery. By the way, I have a jura z10 that gives a decent espresso for a super automatic coffee machine. But cannot get latte art because of the milk texture. I am hoping nanofoamer pro will come to my rescue for me to be able to make latte art. I have been advised to get gaggia classic pro or breville bambino( or plus) with a baratza sette grinder instead by coffee enthusiasts at work. Can you please help with tips on how we can get latte art from super automatics in general and with jura z10 without having to buy another manual coffee machine? This is more for a leisure day hobby rather than daily routine. I am not looking forward to another alternate setup because i am the only at home taking coffee and have already spent $$$ on the jura z10. Not sure where else i could ask so reaching out to you for help. Thank you for inspiring a lot of us to venture into latte art.

Thanks for the review, this could be a good option…i put my money on a meticulous milk..but the workflow for this is a no brained. I wonder if they make it in white.
I might have to pick this up to make some Aeropress lattes down the beach. The only thing that somewhat bothers me is the cleanup for this unit; however, based on this review right here, it seems like you could get something that is latte art rather than something that is a frothy mess.
Nice review. That takes longer than a microwave followed by the nano and is harder to clean. It should produce a better texture though as it looks like it tries to aerate at an optimal temperature. I would love to have that gizmo for controlling texture.
I microwave a boro-silicate jug for 60 seconds which I multitask with knocking out and cleaning the portafilter. If I microwaved for 90 seconds it would make no difference to my workflow.@@chadw6593
How does this compare to cheaper options like the InstantPot milk frother (~$30)? More adjustability with the settings and paddles? Better quality frothing wand? More consistent temp and texture results? Just curious since there is such a large jump in price for essentially the same function

Hmm too hot though can't that ruin the sweetness of the milk?
That's my concern too
Awesome! Just bought one!
Perfect companion for the Bambino!
That's exactly what I plan to do
That’s exactly what I’d do, and what I do with my NanoFoamer. Lance’s caked up screen on his original NF made me a little sad 😂
Thanks!
It is going to be interesting how it compares to a small thermoblock steamer like, I imagine, the meticulous milk
Agreed, especially having accidentally backed both. I have a feeling I will hate cleaning this one though.
Lance, being the classy guy he is, obviously reads Standart magazine in Japanese, like we all should :) 2:41
No fair.... you are talented enough to do outstanding micro foam using yak milk direct from the teat!
What happens if you start with 5°C milk? 25° is pretty warm already
The legend behind the legendary tattoo.
Love the video! How much does it weigh - do you think you could travel with it? Cheers.
I just got my NanoFoamer PRO Gen2. Should I follow this video or wait for the Gen 2 video?
Damn, I looked that Nurri Leva machine the whole video, is just gorgeous
It is pretty sad that they did not use induction heating, the milk would not stick to it. I have thrown away two of my foamers because of this. I had been using a Catler induction heating foamer for 10 years and it is still like new. I went for Nanofoamer because of the foaming technilogy used, so again the foamer would have been perfect with induction heating, plus using PID for temp control.
Lance, will you be reviewing the Subminimal Subscale?
8:10 Hello! How much milk did you use for this cup? I'm trying to use it, but the temperature is not hot enough for me. The foam is thicker when it continues to heat and stir😢
Yh it's pretty limited to heating.....65° lol
Thanks bro for this vid! what probe is that?
That's so ingenious :O
Cant wait for the nurri review
Does it stand the "wobble" test that you show on older videos?
Also, how does it compare to the dozen of $30 models on Am**on?
If you close your eyes while watching one of Lance Hendrick's videos, you can be soothed by a late 90s, early 2000s John C. Reilly narration.
I would pay to see him re-create the spoon bending scene from walk hard
To me he sounds exactly like Danny McBride
Hi Lance!
I know nothing about steaming milk. I currently own an Aeroccino 4 and wonder if this is a worthy upgrade?
Great review. How does it hold up with oat- and almond milk in direct comparison? We are fortunately mostly beyond dairy products these days.
I'm a little curious if you ever checked the thermometer by putting it in something of known temperature, like ice water or boiling water.
Would have been perfect for my RV camping but bought a breville , which really only makes cap foam . Always interested in low compact expresso products . Nice machine . Still looking for best compact ? Expresso maker . Not for home . Hugo was a disaster
I have a Breville milk cafe BMF 600xl. I wonder how this milk frother compares to my frother?
You should do an updated review of the new Gen 2 model.
Does it perform good on freeze distilled milk, Lance?
Nice review.
That takes longer than a microwave followed by the nano and is harder to clean.
It should produce a better texture though as it looks like it tries to aerate at an optimal temperature.
I would love to have that gizmo for controlling texture.
Huh. You must have a powerful microwave. This would be shorter for me. Between microwave and texturing, it takes me a little over 2 mins.
I microwave a boro-silicate jug for 60 seconds which I multitask with knocking out and cleaning the portafilter. If I microwaved for 90 seconds it would make no difference to my workflow.@@chadw6593
Running a cycle again with water instead should be fine for cleaning. In fact, an in built cleaning cycle with no heating would be a useful feature
Does it make good milk foam with small volumes like 30 grams for, say, a cortado with a smaller shot from a flair?
Where can we order it from?
Not on you descriptions or Amazon. Only the manual foamer
Was water filling and do the steaming will clean this before having a cloth cleaning ?
How does this compare to cheaper options like the InstantPot milk frother (~$30)? More adjustability with the settings and paddles? Better quality frothing wand? More consistent temp and texture results? Just curious since there is such a large jump in price for essentially the same function
Foam quality. Most other frothers I've seen make foam that is not even close to being microfoam and very few can make something that's even possible to make latte art with at all, never mind well.
those milk frothers just froth the milk and create bubbles. They don't actually make microfoam to texture the milk
man, i am looking forward to this.. take my money already!
Nespresso Aeroccino 4 or Subminimal NanoFoamer Pro Gen 2?
maybe can just try to pour water in after u're done with the milk and run it again? kinda like a wash
you live in Portugual? I've recognized that milk omg!!!
Love to see your take on the ubermilk for commercial cafes, if they ever get around to releasing it!
The only ubermilk I’ve seen in the wild was at a Krispy Kreme in the Brisbane airport
@@tommypequinot5414 maybe a prototype for field testing? Cool concept though! we had a similar thing in the UK but the company went bust recently it looks like
Can you just use the magnets with a regular steam wand?
Those are the words I've always hoped to hear 😍 "an exciting new development for people streaming milk at home" ...it's just, such beautiful words ❤️😂
Oh hey hello Lindsey the professional latte enjoyer, welcome to the channel!
your hair looks so clean pulled back! so professional looking!
So... nnot.. really what its meant for exactly.. but.. Think this would work to warm and fluff milk w/ protien powder in it?
Or cocoa mix
Is there any plans to create a non plastic/rubber flow controllers ?
Hi @Lance, enjoyable review. Can you tell me if the review has paid promotion from the Subminimal, StandArt or both? I just need a bit more info before I think about investing in the Nanofoamer Pro.
I feel I was quite clear in the video. Sponsorship was standart. It would be quite unethical to offer a review of a product from a company I'd be receiving payment from. I never EVER do that. Cheers
@@LanceHedrick sorry dude
So close to pre-ordering, but why can’t we pre-select a desired temp? Why can’t it hold at that temp? I think I’ll wait for v2.
Anxiously awaiting the Meticulous Milk review!
I cant wait for mine to arrive too! Now i dont have to go hide somewhere to pump a french press of milk after microwaving it and people looking at me thinking im weird.😅
My anxiety at 17:00 thinking it's going to overflow. Not sure if that's skill or luck to get that close without making any sort of mess.
They should produce a Kettle in this design ☝️
Is steamed milk sweeter and therefore preferable? Can someone enlighten me. Thanks
