Your Videos are getting better and better thanks
Thank you for watching!
Wow ! Another great video. I don’t know why I love watching you so much. When I see u have another new video out I get excited to watch it.
Thank you very much. It took me a bit longer to finish editing this one- busy at work. Next video should be about 3 calibrated tampers.
Yep, I’ve also noticed these style baskets are easy to push extraction too far into astringency, so they’re best suited to Medium or lighter. Anything beyond medium will require temp adjustments for no dry mouthfeel. I’ve actually stopped using my SWorks and Weber baskets on Medium+ beans.
Thx for sharing your experience. I guess that is why they also make baskets with different patterns and nr of holes to accommodate medium/dark roast
@@mycoffeeshow111 very true Jack!
Get the benefits of straight wall, stainless steel, and edge to edge holes, but still ‘standard’ flow rate. I don’t have one of the lower flow versions, may have to look into that.
Thanks Jack
@@nissanguy16 thx for watching!
Great video, and as always, the end product is getting better by time. I wasn't aware that the space between the puck and the filter screen affects the body. Guess your learn something new every day :) Was also thinking, maybe that slight angle on the Wafo makes it easier for the water channels to meet together into a single stream, or the patterns of the holes. Who knows!
Thank you very much. Now all I need is more people watching.
I learned that thing about the space between puck and group head from one of Decent videos.
As for why it is easier to get single stream on Wafo- I simply don’t know.
@@mycoffeeshow111 You'd never know when the algorithm decides to show up your video on a large number of people's feed. I heard from various content creators that it became harder and harder lately. Also keep in mind that your content is quasi a niche because your content is probably more useful to those who are already into speciality coffee, but wanting to upgrade something. But, all I can wish is for you not to give up :)
@@DanzilF thank you for your support!
Definitely right about headspace, maybe try shots with these where they both don't have grounds contacting the screen
Good idea. I already sent it back but for future reference, would you say that overdoing was a mistake?
Nah not a mistake. It will be hard to compare these two fairly when there is a guaranteed headspace difference. You’d have to get both baskets in the same depth I think.
I have the SWorks high flow and the Wafo SOE classic (rather than spirit), I find that the SWorks requires much more precise puck prep. I’ve confirmed with different coffees over time. I generally use the SWorks for straight espresso and the Wafo for espresso in milk drinks.
Interesting. I only have soe/spirit and it seems relatively easy. For milk based drinks I would never spend $200 for a basket.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Agree on the cost, buying second hand off home-barista helps with costs and I’m planning on selling one of them. I also have the WW uni filter that I’ll probably sell also. It’s a step back from both of these baskets in terms of being high flow IMO.
@@DanielACroft I had the first version of Unibasket but sold it long time ago. It wasn’t bad, nice texture of the coffee, but couldn’t justify to keep it.
Nice video Jack! Ive been trying the uni basket for some months now. Lets just say it doesnt come close to my Wafo spirit 😉
Thx for watching. I had Unibasket last year. I wouldn’t say it is bad but Wafo on average tastes better.
@@mycoffeeshow111 i remember, it feels so long ago haha
@@devongreer9233 I might have another interesting basket to review soon.
how often are you having to deep clean these high extraction baskets please Jac? Do they block easily? Would like to know how these compare with the cheaper Pesado 585 at quarter of the price?
It is very difficult to clean them up properly. I mean, they won’t block completely but if you look at the right angle you can see it. Some people like to use steam wand to clean them but then you have a proper mess all over your counter.
I have a regular Pesado basket but not the high extraction version.
I have the same Wafo basket, I’ve pulled 100’s of shots, not quite 1000 to date. Using all roast levels and doses. On a Sanremo Opera 2. Using different pressures etc.
What I’ve noticed is the extraction is the same if the basket has a few holes which appear to be blocked.
I’ve used the steam wand to clean it, makes zero difference in the cup.
Don’t worry about how it looks, just use the Wafo as any basket and enjoy your ☕️
The holes that appear to be plugged don’t affect the performance of the basket.
@@Fatboypool thx for sharing. Very helpful info!
Would be interesting a comparison with a paper filter in the bottom of the pullman and a turbo as well as normal shot
I must have done something like that before. I was positively surprised with the results but still think it is too much hassle to use paper filters on a daily basis.
@@mycoffeeshow111 If i have some stock and don't have to cut them it's usually an easy procedure. I also spray them before use.
@@7Miralas u spray them so they stick better to the bottom?
@@mycoffeeshow111 Yes and i find a little difference in taste. The good thing if you cut your own paper you can choose which one you like better.
Hi, I just got a WAFO Spirit knockoff and I wanted to ask, what profile do you use on your decent? I used to pull with an 8 second 2 bar preinfusion, 22 second no pressure bloom, and a declining 6 bar profile on my VST basket, but things aren't working out anymore. What has worked out for you on your Decent? I'm using a Flair 58x so I can probably (???) replicate it!
Also, I'm using a brand new Kinu M47 Simplicity! Any advice on grind size for that with the Spirit basket?
I normally use Damian’s LM Leva on my Decent: slow pre infusion followed by pressure ramping up to 8bar and going down.
As for Kinu, try setting 1.1 or 1.2 - usually works for me
I heard Wafo was 0,7mm thick and Sworks is 1mm is it not?
Hmm, Sworks seemed thinner but as always I might be wrong here. It was definitely lighter though.
@@mycoffeeshow111just checked it's 0,75 same as Wafo
@@Val_Smith thx for the info. Why the difference in weight though?
@@Val_Smith thx for the info. Why the difference in weight though?
@@mycoffeeshow111 mayb the size of the basket. Wafo is 18+ and you said billet is smaller.
How much was the sworks post import charge?
One of the viewers sent Sworks to me. Wafo was like extra £50 on top of the price. I actually had a chat with them about declaring the whole value of the product so it is possibly a bit less now.
Answer: use Pesado HE%, then adjust to taste!
Pesado is very good but would I call it the best- idk.
Im so tired of baskets that arent magnetic
I know some people care about that, but I don’t as my funnel isn’t magnetic either. Maybe I will change my mind in the future.
Did you have to do anything special to get this filter basket into the portafilter? I heard that Sworks won’t fit certain portafilters? Great video! I’ve never heard of Wafo baskets and now I’m seriously considering going that direction because of your video. Thank you!
Thx for watching. I would definitely recommend Wafo if you can get it. As for Sworks, it is a tight fit but I managed to do it.
@@mycoffeeshow111 which Wafo do you own? I notice on the website they have many different baskets. Is there one you’d recommend? I primarily do espresso and milk drinks. I might do pour overs one day but I haven’t tried yet.
@@sdcisaac I have soe/spirit - fast flowing basket great for light roast. I haven’t tried any other but there should be a description of each of them on their website. You can also chat with mr Wafo on Instagram- they seem to be very approachable.
@@mycoffeeshow111 thank you!
